LEGO Teases On The Arrival of Its Most Complex Ideas Set – The LEGO Apollo 11 Saturn V.

At the start of this month, LEGO gave us a teaser on what to expect from its second upcoming LEGO Ideas set for 2017. Based on NASA’s iconic Apollo 11, the next Ideas set slated for release this June is said to be the largest, most complex build that the Ideas Review Team has ever designed. The partial image alone gives us a hint on the sheer size of this build. According to Hasan Jensen,

Apollo 11 Saturn V
LEGO designers, Carl and Mike, have been hard at work on what is the most complex LEGO Ideas set we’ve ever approved! We’ve finalised the model design but there’s still plenty to do before this rocket is ready for lift-off!

lego ideas saturnv 2 5

Earlier today, LEGO gives another clue via its Twitter page on what we could further expect from Ideas fan designer Felix Stiessen (aka saabfan) and his LEGO Ideas Apollo 11 Saturn V set. In this image, we see a portion of a brick-built Lunar Lander in a gray and gold color scheme that has just landed on the lunar surface. We also get to see a silhouette of an astronaut minifigure – borrowing heavily from Neil Armstrong’s words – ready to make that one small step for LEGO bricks.

If you recall, the original project submitted by Felix Stiessen shows the whole LEGO Apollo II to about 1 meter high and made up of 1,179 bricks. It also packs a ton of play feature since the set is meant to be modular in a sense because of its detachable rocket stages, including the Apollo spacecraft itself, the Lunar Lander and Lunar Orbiter.

After some revisions done by the LEGO Ideas Design Team, and considering what LEGO teases about the set’s final version, then we can confidently say that this may perhaps, be the biggest Ideas set that the LEGO designers team have come up with. LEGO promises to give more updates on this exciting set, so stay tuned.

UCS Snowspeeder 75144 7

This latest UCS set is slated to be the highlight of LEGO’s May the 4th celebrations. The LEGO Star Wars UCS Snowspeeder (75144) has already been revealed and will be available to all, starting of course, on May 4. The next Ultimate Collector Series hailing from the Resistance comes in at 1,703 pieces and will retail at $200.

May 4 to 7: Free R2-D2 (30611) polybag set with a LEGO Star Wars Purchase of $50 + Double VIP Points.

r2 lego store calendar may 2017 1

The highly sought after buildable R2-D2 polybag set is the Star Wars promotional highlight for next month, in line with the movie franchise’s 40th anniversary. A healthy amount of interest surrounded the most popular droid on the planet, especially now that he comes as a sought after, brick-built collectible. For me, it is a better deal as compared to previous years’ SW minifigure promotional. It is also wise to assume that this polybag set will go out fast because of the very limited window of opportunity in which it will be offered.

To spice things up, LEGO is throwing in another round of Double VIP points throughout the week on ALL LEGO Star Wars sets, plus discounts on selected ones. On a side note, the UCS Snowspeeder is not included on the list of sale items. However, if you’re holding back on your purchase of the Battle of Scariff (75171) and Y-Wing Starfighter (75172), next month is the best time to get them since both sets will earn you 50 bonus VIP points if you purchase them in May.

May 4: Special Star Wars Events in Stores!

Throughout the whole day, children ages 6-14 may visit any LEGO Store dressed up in their favorite Star Wars character and join in the Search & Find activity where participants can receive a pair of collectible Yoda ears (not sure how it will look like though, maybe a cap of some sorts?). In the afternoon at 5PM, participants will also get a chance to participate in a minifigure speed build challenge where the fastest builder will receive a free minifigure. Participation in the minifig speed build challenge may require registration so be sure to ask a Brick Specialist.

May 8 to 21: Free Mini Milano With Purchases of $35 or More!

milano lego store calendar may 2017 1

Right after the buildable R2-D2 promotional, comes the FREE LEGO Marvel Supeheroes GOTG Vol. 2 Milano (30499) polybag. Though this polybag set will be available for a longer promotional period as compared to R2, better expect this one to fly out of the shelves quickly as well.

Whole Month of May: Receive a Special Star Wars passport stamp when you download the LEGO Life App.

April 24 to June 25: Help the Rebel Alliance Build a Base Camp.

alliance lego store calendar may 2017 1

Take part in the Rebel Alliance by building vehicles, aircrafts or droids for the base camp at your local LEGO Store. Snap a photo of your creation and upload it to the LEGO Life app to receive a pair of wearable Yoda ears while supplies last. This building activity is for children ages 6-14 only.

May 13 and 14: Mother’s Day Weekend Building Event.

40039 1

On Mother’s Day, come in and build a spring inspired Tulip (40039) mini build that you get to take home for FREE. This event is for VIP members and intended for ages 6 to 14 years old. Registration is required so be sure to inquire at your nearest LEGO Store.

Interestingly, the LEGO Store May Calendar also gives us a peek at some LEGO Duplo sets (Flo’s Café 10846 and Thunder Hollow Crazy 8 Race 10744) dedicated to Disney’s Cars 3, just before it debuts in cinemas in August. Starting May, several Minecraft, Elves, Star Wars, and Marvel Superheroes sets will also be available so be sure to check them out.

LEGO Minecraft Teases on Its Largest Set Ever!

LEGO made a lot of waves at the start of this year with the reveal of its newest lineup of Minecraft sets first seen at the New York Toy Fair this year. Most of it has been released already since February and has been receiving a lot of positive reviews. However, there are three larger sets that are yet to be released once summer kicks in. Two of these have been revealed already at the NYTF which includes The Ocean Monument (21136) and The Crafting Box 2.0 (21135) sets, both of which will be released on August 1.

img 0119 img 0124

However, there is a third one that has been kept under wraps, and is now hinted to be the largest set ever made under the theme. Since LEGO Minecraft’s formal launch in 2014, the title of being the largest direct-to-consumer set belongs to The Village (21128) which was released only last year and comes with 1,600 pieces and 8 minifigures. However, this may soon change because earlier today, LEGO teased on an image via its Facebook page that hints on its next exclusive, and presumably, largest LEGO Minecraft set to date.

Base on its silhouette, the set seems to be The Mountain Cave (21137) which we learned about since February. As suggested by The Brick Fan, this set bears very close resemblance to what LEGO has in mind with their concept of the Overworld as seen in the images below.

Overworld Overworld 2

Whatever the case is, we are assured that this is THE largest Minecraft set that LEGO is yet to offer, with plenty of mobs and characters and play features. The Village (21128) is currently valued at $200, and from the looks of it, it will not be a long shot to consider a higher price point for The Mountain Cave (21137). Our best guess is that it could be at around $300 and at almost 3,000 pieces.

Are you excited about this set? Tell us you what you think about it in the comments below.

LEGO Rebrick Teases the Latest LEGO Ninjago Movie Sets.

We’re still a few months away from the theatrical release of LEGO’s third cinematic offering, The LEGO Ninjago Movie, and thanks to LEGO Rebrick, we now have confirmation on how some of its sets will be like. In its latest stop-motion contest entitled “Ninja for a Day”, LEGO Rebrick has announced that it will be giving away a LEGO NInjago Movie mystery set valued at $300 USD, while at the same, teasing on two of the fourteen sets that are expected to be a part of the LEGO Ninjago Movie theme. Deadline for submission of entries is on May 10, 2017 where six grand prize winners will be chosen to bring home tons of uber cool LNM sets and memorabilia. Here’s the complete announcement from LEGO Rebrick:

ReBrick Grand Prize

NINJA FOR A DAY

What does a day in the life of a Ninjagan (a resident of Ninjago city) look like? How does a ninja spend his/her day? Show us in this stop-motion contest for a chance to have your brickfilm featured in the LEGO NINJAGO Movie!

Contest Description

Create a 15 second to 30 second LEGO stop-motion brickfilm that will depict a snapshot in the life of Ninjago city. A thriving pan-asian metropolis that blends the best of a dozen cultures into one population of happy Ninjagans. The city itself is built upon it’s history so that the lowest levels of Ninjago appear ancient with each higher level becoming more and more modern until the top layer resembles modern Hong Kong or Tokyo.

The citizens enjoy this mashup of cultures eating Pad Thai Sushi Tacos and shopping at Gong and Guitar Center. It is an island metropolis and thus has a thriving wharf-seaport. The infrastructure and mass transit is varied so that a citizen can travel on foot, via roads, aboard a suspended hanging train or even float upon a series of elevated canals that connect the city.

In addition to tai chi at sunrise, getting a tan on Ninjago beach or having a bite at one of the festive culture-blending food carts, the one thing all Ninjagans have in common is the need to rebuild their city after the Evil Lord Garmadon attacks (and the Ninjas defend their city with their giant vehicles and mechs, typically destroying many structures in the process!) This happens frequently so LOTS of rebuilding is always taking place. Ninjagians take the destruction in stride, rebuilding their city with flair and always a dose of LEGO humor.

We will be looking for Ninjago action and humor, creative and cool rebuilding, attention to the Ninjago Movie theme, and overall Ninjago look and feel.

The top brickfilms will be featured and credited in the Ninjago Movie in Act One. The winners will be required to deliver their video file stripped of all audio to WB for integration in the Ninjago movie. The winning brickfilms might not be shown in their full length in the movie.

As an important note for this contest, please only include entries with music or sound you have created yourself. Unfortunately we will disqualify all entries with copyrighted or free sound audio.

Before you start please check out the entry guidelines and how to enter in the RULES.

Contest Prizes

  ReBrick runner up Prize

There will be six grand prize winners. The grand prize winners will receive:

– The possibility to have their entry featured in Act One of the Ninjago Movie with credits
– The full LEGO Ninjago Movie assortment
– One exclusive LEGO Ninjago mystery set valued at $300 USD – to be revealed at a later date
– The Art of the Movie book signed by the filmmakers
– Signed LEGO Minifigures from the movie

I have a strong feeling that these prizes are enough to convince any Ninjago fan to join. Though set 70615 (Brickset refers to it as the Kai Mech) is a bit toned down as compared to the actual mech seen in the trailer, looking at the box art, it is already a very impressive build. There is no information regarding its confirmed set name and piece count, but it comes with six minifigures including Kai, Zane, two civilians, and two of Garmadon’s costumed henchmen.

cropped ReBrick runner up Prize

As much as the mechs and vehicles featured in TLNM’s trailer are exquisitely impressive, such level of detail will be probably close to impossible to achieve as an actual set, both for practical and economic reasons. It is simply too large of a set if LEGO will be faithful to its design as we saw them from the official trailer. However, 70615 is pretty cool in itself being on a minifig scale. My best guess is that it probably stands at around 10 to 12 inches which accounts for the rather wide feet and legs to support the set’s weight.

05 TLNM

We don’t have an official image of the Green Ninja Mech Dragon (70612), save for its piece count coming in at 544 pieces, and having Lloyd, Master Wu, and Garmadon included in the set as minifigures. What I find intriguing is the announcement of an ‘exclusive LEGO Ninjago Mystery Set’ valued at $300. Given its price range, we can only speculate as of now that it may come in 3,000+ pieces, making it the largest set ever made under the Ninjago theme. Currently, it is the Temple of Airjitzu (70751) that holds the title of being the largest set in the theme with 2,028 pieces and retailing at $200 when it was first offered in 2015.

Hope LEGO will be announcing the rest of the sets under TLNM anytime soon. The LEGO Ninjago Movie is expected to hit theaters on September 22, 2017.

First Look at LEGO’s Star Wars Celebration Exclusive – LEGO Star Wars Detention Block Rescue!

Things are getting more and more exciting as we approach the much-awaited Star Wars Celebration in Orlando. Earlier, we gave you a recap on the lottery rules that LEGO will be following to determine who among the attendees will have the privilege of purchasing an exclusive, special-edition LEGO Star Wars sets. The online lottery is still on-going as of this writing and will close at 12:01AM EST on April 6. If you already registered in the lottery system, then bear in mind to strictly observe the date and time when you can visit the LEGO booth.

To jumpstart the Star Wars Celebration, LEGO has now released official images of one of its exclusives that celebrates the very first Star Wars film that started it all. This special-edition exclusive is inspired by the Detention Block AA-23 from the original 1977 film, Episode IV – A New Hope.  A Star Wars Celebration exclusive, the set includes Luke Skywalker and Han Solo in Stormtrooper disguises ready to infiltrate the Death Star and rescue Princess Leia.

01 02

As a fan of vignettes, this one is definitely worth a spot in any one’s SW collection. I love how the designers of this set managed to recreate that scene in just 220 pieces.

Remember that the opportunity to purchase this exclusive is being raffled off on the Star Wars Celebration website prior to the event for attendees only, beginning now through 12:01AM EST on Thursday, April 6th. All winners will be randomly selected to purchase the exclusive on-site at the LEGO booth next week, and will be notified by April 7th.

LEGO Collectible Minifigure Series 17 Box Distribution and Checklist.

It seems that LEGO’s latest CMF series gained some traction when the official character names and images of Series 17 were released yesterday. This time around, Brickset managed to have their copy of this latest CMF series ahead of its May 1 release. They were kind enough to share how the minifigs are distributed in the box, together with the series’ corresponding checklist. Take a look.

LEGO CMF Series 17 11

5 in the box:

  • {Mystery figure}
  • Corn Cob Guy
  • Circus Strong Man

4 in the box:

  • Roman Gladiator
  • Connoisseur
  • Retro Spaceman
  • Yuppie
  • Hot Dog Man
  • Battle Dwarf

3 in the box:

  • Professional Surfer
  • Gourmet Chef
  • Veterinarian
  • Butterfly Girl
  • Rocket Boy
  • Dance Instructor
  • Elf Girl

33448745840 261a973c60 b1

Though Huw of Brickset made it clear that he is still not permitted to show the details of Series 17’s Mystery Figure which is rumored to be the French Highway Man, it is interesting to note that he confirmed that there are 5 of this mysterious character in the box. This suggests that the distribution of this Mystery Figure is far different from how Mr. Gold was given out in LEGO CMF Series 10 (71001). The secrecy behind this rumored French Highway Man only leads to further questions on the real story behind this mysterious minifig character. For sure LEGO has good reasons for keeping this a secret until now, and they’re doing a pretty good job of doing so.

So what do you think brick fans? What is the real deal behind this mystery figure? What does LEGO have under its sleeve, ready to surprise us? Share your comments below or visit our Facebook page to join the discussions.

A Recap of What To Expect Inside the LEGO Booth During 2017 Star Wars Celebration in Orlando.

We already knew since the start of the year that LEGO has been listed as one of the exhibitors in the highly celebrated Star Wars Celebration 2017 in Orlando this April. If you’re one with the legion of Star Wars faithful who marked their calendars for this event beginning April 13 next week, then you better make sure that you don’t miss out on what LEGO has to offer. For almost two decades, LEGO has been actively involved in the Star Wars Celebration scene where fans of the movie franchise get the chance of winning or purchasing LEGO Star Wars exclusives that you can’t find anywhere else. Unforgettable examples of these are the ultra rare, solid gold C-3PO minifigures (only five were ever made) that were raffled during the SW Celebration IV back in May of 2007.

Though we can assume that it will be highly unlikely that we’ll be seeing a similar promotional anytime soon such as a solid gold minifigure, what we can expect is that the LEGO Booth has plenty of equally delightful surprises as well. These include exclusive, limited edition sets that you can purchase from the LEGO booth only through a pre-selected raffle draw. Yes, that’s how in-demand these LEGO Star Wars sets are that in order to purchase them, you need to be a lottery winner.

Here’s a recap of the rules that LEGO has drafted to guide all attendees of this year’s Star Wars Celebration. Remember: the lottery process requires registering online and will end at 12:01AM EST on Thursday, April 6 so better catch up fast.

Enter the LEGO Exclusives Lottery!

LEGO is coming to Star Wars Celebration Orlando! LEGO will be bringing several exclusive collectibles to the Show Floor and you could go home with one – or all of them! In order to streamline the process and fairly determine who will be eligible to enter the LEGO booth, we’re raffling off tickets and you could get a chance to get into the LEGO booth and snag some LEGO Exclusives – only available at Star Wars Celebration Orlando!

Participation in this process is REQUIRED in order to win a priority ticket with a reserved time to visit the LEGO booth at Star Wars Celebration Orlando. The lottery process will close at 12:01 AM EST on April 6. All winners will be notified by April 7 of the date and time that they can line up at the LEGO booth.

The LEGO booth will open to the public each day AFTER the ticketed sessions (approximately 4:00 PM Thurs-Fri-Sat-Sun) if there is remaining inventory available. The only way to get a ticket to the first sessions of the day is to enter the lottery!

Sessions for all days of Celebration:

Session 1: report to the LEGO Booth at 10:00 AM
Session 2: report to the LEGO Booth at 11:30 PM
Session 3: report to the LEGO Booth at 1:00 PM
Session 4: report to the LEGO Booth at 2:30 PM

LEGO Booth open to all Fans at 4:00 PM – pending inventory

Rules:

This random drawing is for a chance to get a ticket to purchase items at the LEGO booth.

  • Attendee & Professional badges only. No Exhibitors.
  • One application per person only. Attendees will not be permitted to attend more than one ticketed session at the LEGO booth during the event
  • You must have a valid Star Wars Celebration Orlando 2017 badge for any days you select. No exceptions. We will be checking your badge confirmation to ensure that if you win the lottery for a specific day, you have a badge for that corresponding day.
  • Tickets are awarded randomly for a specific date and time and must be redeemed for that specific session only. No exceptions.
  • Tickets are not transferrable and ID will be checked.
  • You must bring your ticket to the LEGO booth to be scanned at the time of your session. You will not be allowed to purchase exclusives without your lottery ticket.
  • There will be a strict limit of one of each item per ticket.
  • You will not be able to line up at the LEGO booth before your session begins.
  • Every person in line will require a ticket. No exceptions.

The bigger question in every LEGO Star Wars fans have in mind is: what are these exclusive sets that make it so important and exclusive? What will LEGO bring on the SW Celebration table? Are we going to see new sets, and what Star Wars films will they be based on? These questions will all be hopefully answered once Star Wars Celebration 2017 kicks off on April 13.  We’ll keep you posted here at the Brick Show so stay tuned!

LEGO Releases Its Tribute to the 10th Anniversary of the LEGO Creator Modular Buildings.

The LEGO Creator Expert advanced modular building series is now 10 years old. Yesterday, LEGO invited fans of the modular series to join in the celebrations for the 10th year anniversary of the series by posting a teaser via its social media channels.

To mark a decade of excellent modular designs that has been a favorite of advanced builders, LEGO releases its 12th set in the series, the Assembly Square (10255), and today, LEGO also released a 10th anniversary video that traces the history of the modular sets starting from 2007. Jamie Berard, Design Manager Specialist for the LEGO Group (aka LEGO Top Designer Guy) gives us a walkthrough on how the LEGO Creator Expert modular sets came to be. The video also included several interviews from AFOLs who share a common passion for the theme regardless of age. I guess no one is too old or too young to pursue their passion in building these masterpieces. Watch this.

Throughout the decade, LEGO designers have come up with 12 magnificent sets that are essential to what LEGO is as a company built on creativity. The LEGO Creator Modular series is like a time capsule for LEGO during the past years, where traces of it can be found in almost all of LEGO’s major projects (i.e. The LEGO Movie and various LEGO video games). One of the outstanding features of the set is it inspires everyone to build what they see and experience from their day-to-day surroundings. The culminating of all of these is this year’s LEGO Creator Assembly Square (10255) that combines all the best features of previous modular buildings, weaving them all together in one exquisite set.
