Rumored LEGO DC Comics Superheroes Sets for 2020

More rumors are coming out from the leaking faucet. After the news came out regarding what to expect from the next 2020 wave of LEGO Marvel Superheroes sets, we now have additional info about the next series of LEGO DC Comics Superheroes sets coming this second half of 2020 courtesy of Promobricks.

LEGO DC Wonder Woman 1984

Similar to what LEGO did with DCEU’s Wonder Woman in 2017’s Wonder Woman Warrior Battle (76075), the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984 sequel will also be receiving the LEGO treatment. We have no information as to date regarding its exact set name but for the time being, lets refer to it as Wonder Woman vs Cheetah (76157). It features a large satellite dish with minifigure versions of Wonder Woman and Cheetah. This set is slated to be released in June, just in time for its tie-up film landing on theaters on June 5, 2020.

LEGO Batman

As it turns out, we can expect three new LEGO Batman sets to arrive also in June, one of which is labeled as ‘4+’. The smallest in the set, which is also the one tagged as for 4+ kids, is the Penguin Pursuit (76158). It features a Penguin minifigure and a small brick-built duck which we assume as the titular villain’s vehicle. It also includes a Bat Boat with a Batman minifigure. Based on its description, it somehow thematically resembles that of the LEGO Batman: The Penguin Face Off (76010) from 2014 save for the Bat Submarine.

76010 1
The LEGO Batman Penguin Faceoff (76010) from 2014 features a brick built duck that may reappear in an upcoming LEGO Batman set.

We also have another mid-sized set which is called Joker’s Trike Chase (76159) that features a trike with a grotesque grin which obviously the vehicle of choice for Joker. It also includes a Batman minifigure together with his Batmobile. Other minifigures include Harley Quinn with her oversized, black and red hammer, and Robin.

The last set in this series and what seems to be the largest, is the Mobile Bat Base (76160). Retailing for 89.99 Euro, it includes the minifigures of Batman, Batgirl, Nightwing (red, New 52 version), Mr. Freeze, Bronze Tiger, and Man Bat. From what it seems, the Mobile Bat Base also features several interlocking vehicles.

76011 1
Man-Bat and Nightwing appear here in the LEGO Batman Man-Bat Attack (76011) from 2014. We might see these minifigs once again in the tentatively named Mobile Bat Base (76160).

Here’s a brief rundown of all the LEGO DC Comics Superheroes that we know will be arriving in June. Please take note that the set names mentioned above are just based on the set’s initial descriptions and may still change once LEGO makes their official reveal.

This LEGO 1989 Batmobile (76139) Designer Video Reveals How Impressive This Set Actually Is

A few weeks ago, LEGO Batman fans were awe-struck with what could be the largest LEGO vehicle offered thus far. In their LEGO 1989 Batmobile (76139) designer video, self-confessed Tim Burton fans, and LEGO Designers Chris Perron and Adam Grabowski share their excitement on the creative process that they went through in coming up with this iconic version of the Batmobile.

The LEGO 1989 Batmobile (76139) is both impressive in its scale and the play features that go with it. Designers Chris and Adam also made sure that they stay faithful to the original 1989 depiction of the Dark Knight’s vehicle. The set features machine guns that pop up at the turn of the knob, and a slide-open cockpit that the designers managed to pull off even at a tilted angle. Speaking about the cockpit, the interior is simply loaded with fantastic details. LEGO Graphic Designer Ioana Popescu made sure that every detail counts in this legendary vehicle. I love how the steering wheel turned out in this set. The wheels in front are new wheel elements, while those at the back are taken from 2014’s LEGO DC Comics The Tumbler (76023). The set also comes with a rotating display stand that makes it an even more awesome display piece.

Since almost the entirety of the LEGO 1989 Batmobile (76139) is black, the designers were considerate to ensure that the inner workings of this set come in myriads of colors. This is extremely helpful in building such a large monochromatic set.

The choice of design for the set’s exclusive minifigures also takes their cue from Tim Burton’s vision of the Dark Knight. The LEGO 1989 Batmobile comes with three minifigures: a new version of Batman donned in a new soft plastic cowl as seen in the film; Vicki Vale with a mini brick-built camera, and of course Jack Nicholson’s rendition of The Joker. I guess for most LEGO Batman fans, the highlight of these exclusive minifigs will Batman himself, especially considering that classic cowl and cape that comes as a single piece. Having it as such and doing away with the usual swatch of cloth for Batman’s cape is clearly intentional on the part of the designers, to make it as close as to how Tim Burton’s idea of Batman is during this time. Though I’m still racking my brain on how battle-efficient Batman is in this costume when he is unable to turn his head when fighting the bad guys.  Well, that’s just my opinion.

New LEGO Batman Sets Coming in 2019

Moving on with our set reveals for 2019, we now have official images of what looks to be the next wave of LEGO DC sets. Following the redesigned look and format of the new LEGO Spider-man box art, it now seems that LEGO also intends to give the LEGO DC Comics theme a design overhaul as well. Courtesy of The Brick Fan, we now have images of two, new LEGO Batman sets that will be offered at the first quarter of 2019.

You may already have noticed that the box art design for these new LEGO Batman sets has dropped the DC Comics name all throughout, save for the DC logo which is printed on the lower right corner of the box. This first wave of LEGO Batman offerings features Batman pitted against familiar foes such as a new in 2019 minifigure of Ocean Master, Poison Ivy, and Firefly. He is also joined by allies: another new minifigure iteration of Aquaman which follows a close semblance to the DCEU version of the King of Atlantis, save for the blond hair. The Flash also gets a new minifigure design, the most noticeable is the dual-molded yellow legs, which in my opinion, doesn’t sit quite well with how we usually remember the superhero speedster.

So what do you think of this redesigned, LEGO Batman sets? Are you fine with the box art and minifigure’s new looks? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
