iOS Beta Game App “LEGO Star Wars Battles” Relaunching Soon for Apple Arcade

“Star Wars” being an “active” franchise thanks to its Disney+ spinoffs, it’s no surprise LEGO Star Wars is similarly busy. From new sets and minifigs to videogames, the Force is strong with this one. Warner Bros. Games has “LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga” lined up for a multi-platform launch next year. But if you think that’s all the videogames this LEGO line is getting for some time, think again.

Okay, so this one isn’t actually new. “LEGO Star Wars Battles” actually launched in beta for iOS back in 2019. That beta period lasted two years. It  shut down this past July however. Then there came this new announcement.

“LEGO Star Wars Battles,” a mobile real-time strategy game, is coming exclusively to Apple Arcade according to StarWars.com. This was revealed by WB Games, Lucasfilm Games, and the LEGO Group on August 30. Rather than a standalone, “LEGO Star Wars Battles” becomes part of the Apple Arcade service. This means one must subscribe to it ($14.95-$29.95, plan-wise). Then they must subscribe to the game at $4.99/month, with one-month free trial.

Is the game worth it, though? One could look for those who played the beta version on iOS before its recent closure. But if you already like the PvP RTS genre and “Star Wars” as a franchise, this mash-up might do. The official “LEGO Star Wars Battles” blurb talks of buying characters, from faction troops to named characters. That’s pure mobile RTS already. Rather than Sentinel/Scourge or Legion/Hellbourne, we have Light/Dark sides fighting it out.

Aside from just managing troops on the move, the game also allows players to build LEGO-tower defense. They can also put their characters into brick-vehicles, and uses abilities from heavier weaponry to Force powers. Attack, defend, capturing territory…pure mobile RTS mechanics. The fact that you do this in control of Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Rey and more is geek-out bliss.

LEGO Star Wars Battles New 5

For now, “LEGO Star Wars Battles” is expected to come to iPhones, iPads, Macs and Apple TV via Apple Arcade. If it becomes popular enough however, there’s a chance of full ports to PC and even videogame consoles. We still have to wait until the game comes out (once more).

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Trailer 2 Has Finally Arrived

Check Out This List of Retiring LEGO Sets For H1 2021

As LEGO began to roll out its wave of new sets this 2nd half of 2021, it is also expected that the company will begin clearing out from its shelves (both from its physical stores and online) several of its previous sets that are expected to reach its end of life very soon. Retiring LEGO sets are almost always of particular interest to the LEGO fan community, considering that most of us still have that one set that we are looking forward to ticking out from our LEGO must-have bucket list. And recently, Stone Wars have released a very comprehensive list of all the retiring LEGO sets that are expected to quietly exit or may have exited already, from LEGO stores and online, during the 1st half of this year.

The list of these retiring LEGO sets for H1 2021 is presented here.  In case you’re interested, you may click on the following LEGO Shop@Home affiliate links below to check out their current availability. Some of these sets may be temporarily out of stock or tagged as already sold out as I’ve checked a while ago as of this posting. Nevertheless, it is still helpful to check if your expected LEGO set is still included in this listing.

Just a disclaimer though – like previously retired LEGO sets, this list is not 100% accurate considering how fast these retiring LEGO sets might sell out. So I encourage you to do a quick search over at LEGO Shop@Home. A huge thanks to Stone Wars once again for sharing and verifying this list.

PREPARE YOURSELF FOR HAUNTED HAPPENINGS IN LEGO® STAR WARS TERRIFYING TALES

TONY HALE AND CHRISTIAN SLATER JOIN RETURNING CAST FOR THE HALLOWEEN SPECIAL, PREMIERING OCTOBER 1 EXCLUSIVELY ON DISNEY+.

Today, Disney+ debuted key art and announced the cast for LEGO® Star Wars Terrifying Tales, which premieres October 1 exclusively on the streaming service. The all-new animated special continues the rich legacy of collaboration between Lucasfilm and the LEGO® Group and is a seasonal celebration of the villainous dark side of the Star Wars galaxy — just in time for Halloween.

After the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Poe Dameron and BB-8 must make an emergency landing on the volcanic planet Mustafar where they meet the greedy and conniving Graballa the Hutt. The crime boss has purchased Darth Vader’s castle and is renovating it into the galaxy’s first all-inclusive Sith-inspired luxury hotel. While waiting for his X-Wing to be repaired, Poe, BB-8, Graballa, and Dean (a plucky and courageous young boy who works as Graballa’s mechanic) venture deep into the mysterious castle with Vader’s loyal servant, Vaneé. Along the way, Vaneé shares three creepy stories linked to ancient artifacts and iconic villains from across all eras of Star Wars. As Vaneé spins his tales and lures our heroes deeper into the shadowy underbelly of the castle, a sinister plan emerges. With the help of Dean, Poe and BB-8 will have to face their fears, stop an ancient evil from rising, and escape to make it back to their friends.

The voice cast includes Jake Green as Poe Dameron; Raphael Alejandro as Dean; Dana Snyder as Graballa the Hutt; Tony Hale as Vaneé; Christian Slater as Ren; Trevor Devall as Emperor Palpatine; and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn as NI-L8. David Shayne serves as writer and executive producer, and the director is Ken Cunningham. James Waugh, Josh Rimes, Jacqui Lopez, Jill Wilfert, Keith Malone, and Jason Cosler are executive producers. LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales was produced in collaboration with Atomic Cartoons.

The LEGO Group to Join San Diego Comic-Con@Home 2021

July has been traditionally Comic-Con month, and with the onset of the global health crisis brought about by this pandemic, the traditional in-person San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) is postponed until 2022. Similar to what it did last year, SDCC is still going online and with the LEGO Group being confirmed as one of this year’s Comic-Con@Home online exhibitors.

Though this second Comic-Con@Home edition has not yet released its list of virtual panel schedules, some news outlets have been publishing the event’s online shows and programming.  Needless to say, more news will probably come out in the next couple of weeks considering that the virtual fan convention is scheduled to happen between July 23-25, 2021.

Traditionally, LEGO has always been an exhibitor in this world-renowned fan convention, with plenty of new product reveals carefully timed during these events. And now that LEGO is back as an online exhibitor, it’s interesting to see how the LEGO Group will go about with its presentation. With the successful launch of its very first, and very own online LEGO fan convention in the form of LEGO CON 2021, we can most likely expect additional product reveals at Comic-Con@Home. Details are sketchy as of this time on the most likely candidates for any of these set reveals, but I’m crossing my fingers that it might be related to the next LEGO Star Wars UCS set presumably the Republic Gunship. The iconic transport from the Star Wars prequels was voted as the fan-favorite during last year’s LEGO Ideas voting campaign. It’s just speculation at this time, but since LEGO skipped on having LEGO CON as an opportunity to reveal this year’s LEGO Star Wars UCS set, I guess Comic-Con@Home 2021 will be the next best choice.

SDCC’s virtual event is just around the corner so we can expect more news to come in during the next several days. Stay tuned.

LEGO CON 2021 Video Now Available Over YouTube

LEGO has now uploaded the entire LEGO CON 2021 video over its YouTube, making it more accessible to fans worldwide. Billed as the ultimate online experience for LEGO fans everywhere, this is the LEGO Group’s very first live online streaming event that highlights some of its latest products, and a chance to interact with LEGO designers and other master builders.

The original video is still uploaded on the LEGO.com website as to where it is first streamed, and having it available over at YouTube allows more LEGO fans to relive the excitement of the event.

In case you missed the live-streaming event over the weekend, LEGO CON 2021 officially showcased the new LEGO Star Wars The Mandalorian sets expected to arrive in August, plus a poll for fans to decide a new  LEGO Minecraft minifigure. It was also the opportune time to reveal a new LEGO Ideas set, inspired by the winner of the LEGO Ideas We Love Sports Contest.

Though I have to admit that I was expecting more from one of LEGO’s grandest events (for some reason, I can sadly hear Thanos’ voice in my head over and over again whenever I think of LEGO Dimensions – “no resurrections this time”). But regardless of my personal feelings towards it, I have to agree that LEGO CON 2021 is a great platform for LEGO to highlight its next line of product offerings. It may not meet everyone’s expectations, but the new and creative opportunities for LEGO fans and builders to connect and interact is a breath of fresh air especially in this time of the pandemic.

So what do you think of this first-ever LEGO CON 2021? What are you’re favorite highlights of the program? What do you wish could have been done better? Let me know in the comments below.
