LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 Officially Announced – Will Be Available Across All Major Consoles, Including the Nintendo Switch.

A few moments ago, Traveller’s Tales and WB Games have announced the long awaited sequel to its Marvel-powered 2013 video game smash hit, LEGO Marvel Superheroes, with Baby Groot being on the spotlight (or should I say crossfire). The hit video game may be considered as the most successful, and best LEGO video game of its time, second only to the hilarious LEGO City Stories: Undercover. But given the huge popularity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe nowadays, and considering the recent box office success of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, then it only naturally follows that a LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 is in order.

LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2

Baby Groot may not be that happy as the rest of us, as he dodges Green Goblin’s explosive mayhem, but seeing the teaser trailer below sure got a lot of fans excited. Not only does the trailer promise a full reveal of the game on May 23, Tuesday next week, it was also announced that LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 will be available across all major consoles, including the Nintendo Switch. Here’s what to expect.

Join your favorite Super Heroes and Super Villains from different eras and realities as they go head-to-head with the time-traveling Kang the Conqueror in an epic battle across Chronopolis, from Ancient Egypt and The Old West to Sakaar and New York City in 2099. Along the way, gamers will be able to take control of a host of iconic characters, from Cowboy Captain America from the past to Spider-Man 2099 from the future along with Thor, Hulk, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Green Goblin, and dozens of other Marvel Super Heroes and Super Villains.

The promotional poster for the game also hints that we will be seeing more MCU iterations of our favorite Marvel superheroes and villains. LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 will also feature a four player multiplayer mode for a competitive four-way battle, somewhat similar to LEGO Dimensions’ Battle Arena. It will be available starting November 14, 2017 for the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game will be released for Nintendo Switch this holiday.

An Early Look At The LEGO Dimensions Powerpuff Girls Buttercup Minifigure!

Though LEGO Dimensions has been in hot water recently due to the rumors surrounding its supposed cancellation, we are still getting what Warner Bros. Interactive and TT Games have promised. While Wave 8 of LEGO Dimensions is yet to be released on May 9, we are now getting more news on the next wave of this year’s LEGO Dimensions sets. The internet has been rife of images and stills from the yet-to-be revealed Wave 9 of LEGO Dimensions, particularly those from certain packs such as the Powerpuff Girls and Beetlejuice, and thanks to a report by ComicBook.com, we now have confirmation from Cartoon Network that the girls will be arriving in LEGO Dimensions, both in Team and Fun Pack versions. Here’s a quote from CN’s press release.

The Powerpuff Girls LEGO DIMENSIONS – LEGO DIMENSIONS, the LEGO toy and videogame hybrid, is adding The Powerpuff Girls to its roster with a new Team Pack and Fun Pack. The Team Pack features Blossom and Bubbles minifigures, and the Fun Pack completes the team with Buttercup. Both packs give access to the Townsville Hub area where players can fly around Townsville and see sights like Pokey Oaks elementary, City Hall, Rainbow Land, the Pickle Museum and of course the girls’ home base complete with Professor Utonium’s lab.

Even though Wave 9 is still expected to be released during the third quarter of this year (probably sometime in August), Jason managed to have an early look and review of Buttercup’s minifigure as found in the LEGO Dimensions Powerpuff Girls Fun Pack.

buttercup buttercup 2

As you can see, Buttercup’s minifigure is true to her original design, with her prominently large head, green eyes and short legs. The headpiece itself is made of a single molded piece. Watch Jason’s review below for more details.

As of to date, Wave 9 is said to be composed of the following Team and Fun Packs

  • LEGO Dimensions Teen Titans GO! Team Pack (71254)
  • LEGO Dimensions Teen Titans GO! Fun Pack (71255)
  • LEGO Dimensions Powerpuff Girls Team Pack (featuring Blossoms and Bubbles)
  • LEGO Dimensions Powerpuff Girls Fun Pack (featuring Buttercup)
  • LEGO Dimensions Lord Vortech Fun Pack
  • LEGO Dimensions Ghostbusters Reboot Fun Pack
  • LEGO Dimensions Beetlejuice (TBA)

Wave 9 is expected to be the last wave of LEGO Dimensions for its Year 2 offering.

In LEGO City Undercover, You Have The License To Drive Every Vehicle That Your Minifigure Hands Can Hold On!

Right after a sigh of relief from Nintendo Switch users on the good news regarding the incorrect storage listing on the box art of LEGO City Undercover, another welcome treat has been revealed by Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment (UK). A few moments ago, WB Games UK via their YouTube channel, has uploaded a video that boasts how adept our stealthy agent is when it comes to driving around.

LEGO City Undercover 01

In LEGO City Undercover, other than the many faces and disguises of Agent Chase McCain, he also has a knack for driving almost everything whether it is on land, air, and sea. Check out its latest trailer below.

legofull

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and TT Games today released a new trailer for LEGO® CITY Undercover highlighting the vast array of vehicles available to commandeer by land, sea and sky.

In LEGO® CITY, every vehicle on the street can be used to cruise around the open-world! With more than 100 types to choose from, play as super-cop Chase McCain and get behind the wheel of sports cars, motorcycles, helicopters and more to help track down corrupt criminals or just take a leisurely ride through the city.

Now this makes it pretty more exciting. It looks like LEGO and Warner Bros have redeemed themselves on this one. LEGO City Undercover is due to be out next week on April 4th in the US, and 7th in the UK. It will be available across all major gaming platforms such as the Nintendo Switch, WiiU, PS4, Xbox One, and Steam (PC). You may pre-order your copy by heading to this link.

UPDATE: Warner Bros’ Releases Statement – No Download Required To Play The Physical Version of LEGO City Undercover for the Nintendo Switch.

This is somewhat a breather for most of us who are looking forward to the release of LEGO City Undercover for the Nintendo Switch, due to be out on store shelves next week. We previously reported that the physical cart version of LEGO City Undercover for the Switch will require a hefty 13GB of storage space and an internet connection before playing the game. This is based on the photos of the actual box art that some store employees snapped when they received copies of the game ahead of its April 4 release.

According to IGN, a representative from Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment reached out to them and shared the following information that clarifies the “incorrect listing” on the game’s box. To quote,

“Players who purchase LEGO City Undercover on Nintendo Switch at retail do not need to download the game to play. The information is listed incorrectly (emphasis added) on the packaging of LEGO City Undercover for Nintendo Switch. Players who purchase a physical copy of LEGO City Undercover on Nintendo Switch at retail are getting the complete game, and do not need to download additional content to enjoy the full experience. An internet connection is not required to play the game. The only internet connection suggested is to download the typical content update patch.”

As it turned out, the required storage space mentioned on the box art was incorrect. WB makes it clear that Switch owners who will be purchasing, or may have pre-ordered LEGO City Undercover will be receiving the full game, and will not be required to download any additional content before they can enjoy the complete game. Internet connection will only be required for periodical or usual content updates.

This is a much welcomed announcement from WB Games, and we’ll be able to confirm everything once we have our hands on the game itself on April 4. The game will also be available for the WiiU, PS4, Xbox One, and Steam (PC).

LEGO City Undercover Will Probably Require A Lot of Space In Your Nintendo Switch.

UPDATE: This report was updated with a more recent announcement from Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment. You may read this update right here.

LEGO City Undercover is scheduled to debut next month and is the next major third-party port slated on the Nintendo Switch. While many of us have pre-ordered the game for various gaming platforms and consoles, Nintendo Switch owners may have to think twice and hold on to that game trigger before making a purchase.

Apparently, several retail stores have stocked up on the physical carts already ahead of LEGO City Undercover’s April 4 release, as Eurogamer reports. This led to some store employees to anonymously post images of the game’s final box art over at Reddit and this is what we discovered.

LCU Switch LCU Switch 2

LCU Switch 3

It is clear from these images that playing LEGO City Undercover in the Nintendo Switch will require an internet connection and more than half of the console’s internal storage space at 13GB. This might prove as a bane for most Switch owners since the handheld console itself only carries a total of 32 gigs of space, 25 after doing the required core software install. This means that playing the game in Nintendo Switch will eat up most of its storage. This led most Switch owners to be turned-off and speculate on the reasons behind such moves from WB Games. Eurogamer, on a separate report, discusses the relatively high cost of manufacturing game cartridges on the Nintendo Switch as compared to other gaming consoles. As it goes, Switch game carts come in varying storage sizes: GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB. The bigger the cart, the more expensive it is expected to be. Obviously, game developers have to be mindful of their game’s size since it will have a direct effect on the cost of the game cart’s production, hence the final cost of the game as offered to the market. In contrast, owners of other gaming consoles such as the PS4, Wii U, and Xbox One that uses the Blu-ray disc format can purchase the same game for a lower price, and can also play it immediately out of the box. Additional storage space will only be required for DLCs or patches if the game will offer so later on.

In the case of LEGO City Undercover for the Nintendo Switch, it seems that customers will only be getting half of the game on retail, while they are left with the burden of downloading the rest of it. This seems to be the suggestion, since Nintendo ‘s eShop lists LEGO City Undercover at 7.1GB, and the images of the final box art shows that an internet connection is required, and that 13GB of storage space is needed. This is quite odd given the fact that most Switch games in their physical cart forms do not require an installation to play.

IGN eventually reached out to one of WB Games’ representatives and this is the response that they received.

“Players who purchase LEGO City: Undercover on Nintendo Switch at retail do not need to download the game to play. All players who purchase the game can download the small content update patch with an internet connection.”

Though we are thankful that WB Games took the time to answer this unrest, still, it is kind of vague. Granted that an internet connection is not required to play the game, then why specifically mention the need for a huge 13GB download? Is it for the ‘small’ content update patch that they refer to? Does it suggest that at least some of the game is still playable without downloading, and ‘unlocking’ certain features will require a massive amount of download?

Only time can tell once we have our try of LEGO City Undercover for the Nintendo Switch. So what do you think brick fans? What is the real deal behind these requirements for LCU? Share us what you think in the comments below or join in the discussion over on our Facebook page.

5 Facts About the Rumored LEGO Dimensions Cancellation.

I have been putting this off for quite some time already since I am aware that such news may inadvertently fan the flame of unhealthy rumors and speculations. Nevertheless, we eventually need to weigh these things while keeping in mind the best interest of the LEGO Community. If you’re closely following the toys-to-life scene where LEGO Dimensions is a big part of it, then you might be aware already that the future of this genre is looking quite bleak. After the surprising cancellation of Disney Infinity way back in May of last year, and the apparent slowdown of Skylanders, in terms of having no new releases slated for 2017, led many to speculate that the curtain may have started to roll down quietly for this particular niche of toys. Here are 5 facts about this rumored LEGO Dimensions cancellation, and let’s see if this is something that is most likely to happen in the future.

Bricks to Life, a website dedicated to everything under the LEGO Dimensions portal, has taken a lot of criticism lately because of an article that it posted a week ago.  Daniel Becker, the main man behind BTL, asserts that they have reliable information that the LEGO Group has decided to pull the plug from LEGO Dimensions and citing numerous pieces of evidence that point out to the alleged not-so-distant cancellation of the game. Since after posting the said article, the site has received a lot of comments ranging from an emphatic show of support, saying that the larger LEGO community has the right to know about these things, to outright disapproval and outrage for what some has said to be ‘rumor mongering’ and sensationalism.

For our purposes, we will not repost or rehash what was already been said about this alleged cancellation (or plausible cancellation) of LEGO Dimensions. Instead, we will try to make sense of this piece of news by laying down (as much as we can) all the necessary facts about the report. Only then can you settle in your mind what the real case is, and what can you do as of the moment to help in settling the unrest among the LEGO Dimensions community.

Fact#1 – The Apparent Delay in the Release Date of LEGO Dimensions Wave 8.

According to BTL’s report, it was noted that Hermione Granger will be welcomed through the LEGO Dimensions portal starting this month. The news was announced during the Harry Potter Celebration at Universal Studios in Orlando last January 28, with the promise of a March 21 release. This piece of news was a bit of a low profile, though it didn’t go unnoticed among LEGO Dimensions fans. Needless to say, most of us were very excited about this and everything is going as planned with Wave 8 of LEGO Dimensions in particular, and the promise of more Year 2 content in general.

However, LD fans were caught by surprise when LEGO gave an official press release stating that the release of LEGO Dimensions Wave 8 will be pushed back to May instead.  The press release specifically mentioned that the Goonies Level Pack (71267), the Harry Potter Hermione Granger Fun Pack (71348), and the LEGO City Chase McCain Fun Pack (71266) will all be available on May 9. It had a lot of people asking about why LEGO would opt for such a delay where in fact, historically, May is usually the end of their release cycles. It means to say that if everything is on track, the promise of other Year 2 titles such as The Powerpuff Girls, Teen Titans GO!, and Beetlejuice – collectively referred to as Wave 9 –  should be released in May. This move of having a May 9 release date for Wave 8 obviously pushes Wave 9 further. This leaves a big question in everyone’s mind, not to mention a bit of anxiety about what it may imply since there is no official word from LEGO as of the moment when Wave 9 will eventually be released. It should also be noted that there has been no news of any kind regarding the possible character line-up for LD’s Year 3 offering despite LEGO’s promise of ‘new ways to play in 2016 and beyond’.

Fact #2 – Removal of Previously Revealed In-Game Updates

Bricks to Life also pointed out an in-game update to LEGO Dimensions that basically removed some level spots that were previously shown already. The removal of these level spots only led to further questions: why were these Year 2 level spots reduced to four instead of six as previously revealed? Why were these contents being removed from the game?

Now some may argue that the removal of these level spots may not necessarily mean anything disastrous or apocalyptic right away. That the removal of such in-game content is like a harbinger of the end of things for LEGO Dimensions is still very much far-fetched. However, BTL decides to dig in deeper and sets itself to find out the real score behind these suspicious moves.

Fact #3 – The Toys-to-Life Genre is Slowly Dying.

When Activision – the company behind Skylanders – created the toys-to-life niche in 2011, the company seemed to have landed on a gold mine. The multi-billion TTL market was booming, with the masses experiencing for the first time a fusion of video games and real-life, physical toys. Needless to say, the TTL revolution that Skylanders has started, captivated players and gamers of all ages. Disney decided to join the fray, with Disney Infinity as their take on this booming toy industry. The Japanese gaming giant, Nintendo, also saw the potential of the toys-to-life genre with their offering of exquisitely made, Amiibo line of figures. LEGO eventually jumped on the bandwagon with its unique take on the TTL scene. Opting for a licensing approach in its offerings, LEGO Dimensions now has more than 30 IPs and licenses under its belt.

True, we have seen and experienced the frenzy behind these unique toy categories, but some indicators point out that after five years of its existence, the toys-to-life genre may have reached a sort of saturation point. When Disney finally decided to wrap things up with Infinity, most analysts speculated that LEGO Dimensions will pick up the pieces where Disney Infinity left off. However, after almost a year since the cancellation of Disney Infinity, the numbers (particularly in terms of sales) that LEGO has been hoping to see in LEGO Dimensions don’t quite add up. As it seems, Disney’s decision to withdraw from the toys-to-life race only showed the symptoms of an ailing industry. To add the final nail to its coffin, Skylanders has not announced any new releases for 2017, with Vicarious Visions, the group primarily responsible for the development of Skylanders under Activision, is now given new projects to work on. This saturation point and decline in sales have been attributed to the relatively high cost of the toys-to-life genre, where playing the video game and enhancing the gaming experience by unlocking game content using physical toys have proven to be expensive.

Fact #4 – Bricks to Life Claim of Insider’s Info.

Bricks to Life’s search for the real deal behind the future of LEGO Dimensions led them to one of their trusted sources. Obviously, they cannot reveal who their source is if that person is indeed a part, or a member of, any of LEGO’s partners and subsidiaries. According to BTL, they have reliable information that states how a recent TT Games company meeting revealed the true state of things for LEGO Dimensions. According to their source, the said meeting was more of a reshuffling of priorities as far as the development of newer games is concerned. As it turned out according to BTL, talks about future LEGO Dimensions content has been pushed at the very bottom of TT Games’ priority list only to be shadowed by new and more promising projects.  Teams are now reassigned to work on other projects that have greater potential, while LEGO Dimensions is set aside. In the past, LEGO Dimensions has been TT Games pet project alongside other LEGO video games which have proven to be popular throughout the years. However, if Bricks to Life’s source can be trusted, then such reshuffling of priorities may well indicate that the game developers themselves have thrown in the towel for LEGO Dimensions.

Fact #5 – LEGO Officially Denies LD’s Cancellation But Goes On To Say That It Doesn’t Know What Game Developers Have In-Store.

In its official Twitter account, LEGO has dismissed any claims of future cancellation of LEGO Dimensions. Check out their tweet below.

On a separate inquiry, LEGO stated that it has no idea on what’s in store with regards to future game development as far as LEGO Dimensions is concerned.

Now, this is just a sort of an extrapolation, but having LEGO unsure of what their game designers have in mind for the future while stating very clearly that LEGO Dimensions is not getting canceled does not sound right for me. Considering that Year 2’s offering is about to come to a close, then any plans for working on a Year 3 series should be in the works right now. This apparent ambivalence with LEGO’s official announcements is not really new. In the past, we get to see relatively conflicting news regarding the cancellation of some of LEGO’s projects such as its MMORPG LEGO Universe, Mixels, and Bionicle.

Now at this point, you may have realized already that the news of LEGO Dimensions’ cancellation is, as of this writing, should be considered for what it is – as a rumor. Nevertheless, we should also realize that there are several facts that we need to scrutinize and see if these all stand up and serve as a signal of what lies ahead on the future of LEGO Dimensions, and of the toys-to-life genre. As of now, we still have the promise of Wave 9 coming out soon, and another set rumored to be a Lord Vortech Fun Pack. If there is anything that we can hold on to, is the truth that nothing is final until it is. We maintain our stand that though there are clear indicators of what lies ahead in this corner of the toys to life scene, we still give due respect to LEGO and what it believes to be beneficial for both the company and the LEGO fans community.

So, what is your take on all of these brick fans? Do you think this is really the end for LEGO Dimensions, or perhaps this is just another low moment that LEGO has to hurdle? Share your thoughts in the comments below, or join in the discussions on our Facebook page.
