When The LEGO Movie graced theaters in 2014, it opened the gates for more LEGO-themed animated movies, previously released only direct to video, to make a splash on a bigger screen. Last year saw the double-whammy of LEGO Batman and LEGO Ninjago, proving the concept of a LEGO cinematic universe.
But those two are spinoffs, and ultimately we’d want to know what further happens in the lives of Emmet, Wyldstyle and friends. LEGO and Warner Bros. Animation have already confirmed a sequel is coming, and now they’ve cemented its production progress by revealing its full title and official promo logo.
So here we have it, the official title design for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. It’s a rather redundant subtitle, but the block design of the letters makes it work. Yes, it’s just a flip of the original LEGO Movie title with more blue, but it looks promising.
Considering this LEGO Movie 2 logo has been revealed, it can only mean that LEGO and WB Animation are all set to do some advance promotions, considering that its premiere date is still for February 2019. Eyes are looking toward July’s San Diego Comic Con as a possible preview venue.
The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part sees the return of the main actors in their original voice roles: Chris Pratt as Emmet Brickowski, Elizabeth Banks as Wyldstyle, and Will Arnett as LEGO Batman, plus newcomer Tiffany Haddish in a yet undisclosed role. Watch this space for more TLM2 updates.
Last Saturday, May 19, Toys R Us France – still surviving after the closure of the UK’s stores, a major European market – held the “traditional” Make & Take event with its stores in the country, themed after the popular LEGO-licensed franchise of Star Wars. The subject was the familiar micro-build of the famous Millennium Falcon spaceship.
Now, it’s Canada’s turn. The Canadian division of Toys R Us, which also continues to operate after being sold to investment firm Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd. in Toronto last April, will be holding its own Star Wars LEGO Make & Take event for June 2.
As you’ve guessed, the LEGO mini-build that’ll be featured at the occasion is, again, the Millennium Falcon. But while the Falcon built at the recent Make & Take by TRU France last Saturday was the “original gray” version, this one’s the “new” version from Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Interested participants in Canada may head to their nearest TRU store in June 1 – Friday next week – in order to get a chance to build their own LEGO micro of the blue-and-white Millennium Falcon. Aside from this, they can also complete an activity card to get a free Solo poster.
For your guidance, the Star Wars Make & Take event on June 1 will run from 11AM to 2PM, the usual 3-hour average duration for all other occasions just like it. Don’t forget too, that Solo: A Star Wars Story will premiere in cinemas this coming Friday on May 25.
Man, oh man, does LEGO sure know how to generate suspense, build up hype and just all around tease! There’re a lot of upcoming LEGO product previews we’ve been keeping tabs on; one’s a special LEGO Technic set that’s apart from the others already revealed, a beautiful TRON-like sports car.
We’re talking about the long-promised LEGO Technic Bugatti Chiron (42083) that’s set to make its big introductory splash on the first day of June. They’ve even got a countdown clock going for it on the Chiron’s dedicated page at LEGO.com; but LEGO’s decided to give us one last product tease.
Said tease comes in the form of a new image of the completed LEGO Technic Chiron (42083) with a dark cloth draped over it, like any car hidden under tarp. This is a poster for the grand unveiling of the set in June 1, with lots of very important guests.
From the official LEGO Facebook page, the reveal of the LEGO Technic set 42083 will be done at the LEGO House in Billund, with the respective presidents of The LEGO Group and Bugatti Automobiles SAS in attendance. They’ll even host a live-stream of the event on FB, starting 9AM (CET).
That’s a lot of special treatment for this truly special addition to the LEGO Technic line, and we’re looking forward to seeing the thing next month. The June 1 event, to be live-streamed by LEGO would translate across time zones to be about 3AM East Coast, or 12MN out West.
Last March, we featured one particular LEGO Ideas Project that garnered the coveted 10K votes, and eventually made it to the list of projects to be reviewed during LEGO Ideas’ first 2018 Review Stage. For LEGO and gaming fans (such as myself), the Modular Arcade is one LEGO Ideas project that we really like to see happen. I’m a fan of arcades, and seeing this project by Astronaut Avila become an actual LEGO set is something that I’m looking forward to.
However, since were months away before the results of the first 2018 LEGO Ideas Review Stage is announced, I guess we just have to improvise for now, just what LEGO fan brickdance9 did with his reimagining of the LEGO Creator Downtown Diner (10260), and turning it into a crazy cool car showroom.
For now, if you’re eyeing on building your very own customized LEGO Creator Arcade, then you will definitely need to load it with a nice selection of brick-built, minifig scaled arcade machines. If you need a bunch for your own Modular Arcade MOC, then you’ll be glad to hear that the Brick Show Shop is running a sale all throughout the weekend, with a BUY 3 GET 1 deal for all of its custom LEGO arcades. The shop offers a wide variety of custom, minifig-scaled LEGO arcade machines inspired by classic 80s video games such as Donkey Kong, Centipede, Q*Bert, and Pac-Man. They also come with unique, high quality stickers that bring these tiny MOCs to life, giving that Modular Arcade project of yours a run for your money.
If you wish to avail of this promo, just head over at the Brick Show Shop, choose the custom LEGO arcades that you want to purchase, and use the coupon code BUY3GET1FREE upon checkout. You may also want to try their latest addition which is the Custom LEGO BLOK Classic Arcade Machine inspired by the 1982 TRON film.
While you’re at it, you may also want to check the rest of the shop’s arcade collection like the Custom LEGO Gumball Machine and LEGO Air Hockey Table. Stephen and Jason also did their own LEGO Arcade Room MOC from 3 years ago incorporating these cool selections of custom LEGO arcades as you can see below.
LEGO is wise to announce its offerings for the 2nd half of 2018 as early as summer, because we really have to buffer our wallets again this time.
Alongside the official press release of the LEGO Powered Up System of Play, now comes another announcement from The LEGO Group that gives a full reveal of more than a hundred LEGO sets covering almost all of LEGO’s existing themes and licenses to be offered starting August of this year.
I’m particularly excited about the announcement of the LEGO CMF Series 19 which LEGO promises to release this year. There is virtually no information yet about what Series 19 will be all about, but I do hope it will be exciting as well. I’m a bit a disappointed that there is still no mention of the much awaited LEGO Ideas Voltron set so I guess we have to be extra patient again.

It looks LEGO is giving us a glimpse of what the future of brick-building might look like. Ever since the launch of LEGO Boost Creative Toolbox (17101) last year, LEGO has been developing sets and apps that merges the potential of the LEGO Boost, with a wide array of existing and soon to be offered sets. This trend was finally confirmed with LEGO’s official press release that highlights the Powered Up Platform System of Play.
From the LEGO Ninjago Stormbringer to the LEGO Duplo Trains, the Powered Up Platform mergers both digital and physical play that acts as a precursor for children to be introduced to the field of robotics and programming. Strictly speaking, this is not a first for LEGO since its introduction of the LEGO Mindstorms in the late ‘90s. However, seeing that robotics and coding is now becoming gradually integrated across LEGO themes and sets, is one exciting frontier to explore.
LEGO Powered Up System of Play will officially launch on July 1 while the LEGO Powered Up App will be available on both tablets and mobile phones operating on iOS and Android. Here’s LEGO’s full press release for more details on how the system works and what can we expect from it.
LEGO® Powered Up Platform Empowers More Builders to Bring Their LEGO Play to Life
LEGO® Batman™ App-Controlled Batmobile™ and More New Sets Join Growing Universe of LEGO Connected Toys That Blend Physical Play and Digital Creativity-
ENFIELD, Conn. (May 17, 2018) – Today, the LEGO Group announced the Powered Up Platform, a suite of new elements and apps, which introduce new ways to bring to LEGO® sets to life seamlessly across its System of Play. Revealed today as part of the Powered Up platform, the LEGO Batman™ App-Controlled Batmobile, inspired by DC’s Caped Crusader, is a buildable LEGO Batmobile that is fully controllable by smart device. It will also incorporate light coding and programming later in 2018.
Leveraging the power elements and coding language developed for last year’s award-winning build and code toolkit, LEGO BOOST, and other LEGO connected toys, Powered Up enabled sets give kids the ability to modify and personalize their experiences by adding dynamic motion control and in some instances simple coding. Powered Up LEGO sets will range from simply powered to remote controlled to smart device connected, creating endless customized play possibilities. Some building sets will ship with Powered Up capabilities included in the box, while others will be Powered Up-enabled, giving kids the option to add power features to their creations if they are interested.
“For 20 years, we have been creating new ways for children to combine technology and LEGO building, starting with the introduction of LEGO MINDSTORMS®, a robotics toolkit that pioneered the idea of a ‘smart toy,” said Michael McNally, senior director brand relations for the LEGO Group. “With Powered Up, we’ve established a flexible connected platform to enable innovative new play experiences that merge digital and physical play in natural ways that will delight and inspire the builders of today and tomorrow – while still focusing on the core physical play proposition of our System of Play – the LEGO brick.”
The LEGO Batman App-Controlled Batmobile, created for children 8 years of age and older, combines LEGO building and remote-control car play. It is the first codeable and programmable LEGO Batmobile that is fully controllable via smart device. Users can steer the Batmobile using one of two preset remote-control interfaces or personalize their experience through a customizable interface. With the interface unlocked, users move sliders, buttons and other elements to customize the remote control to their liking. Through a coding canvas that will be introduced later this year, users can code and re-code speed, direction, sound and duration to program various movements and stunts and create their own unique driving experiences.
Additional Powered Up sets launching in 2018 include the LEGO City Passenger Train and LEGO City Cargo Train, which add simple remote-control functionality to classic LEGO building. The LEGO DUPLO® Steam Train and LEGO DUPLO Cargo Train introduce kids as young as 2 years old to cause and effect play, a pre-cursor to coding, with low-tech brick accessories that utilize sensors and color-coded train track elements.
The Powered Up offerings join a growing portfolio of LEGO connected toys that bridge physical and digital play. The LEGO NINJAGO® Stormbringer dragon and LEGO City Arctic Scout Truck allow children to leverage elements from the LEGO BOOST build and code toolkit to add behavior and movement. Builders can also add LEGO BOOST elements to the new LEGO Creator Expert Roller Coaster to motorize the chain lift and set a roller coaster in motion with realistic sound effects.
The Powered Up Platform launches July 1. The LEGO Batman App-Controlled Batmobile will launch August 1 with the suggested retail price of $99.99 and includes 321 pieces, two motors and a battery hub. The Powered Up App works on phones and tablets running iOS 8.0 and up or Android 5.0 and up.

Summer is still far from over and yet LEGO is now giving us another early Christmas treat with the release of another Advent Calendar following the reveal of those from the LEGO Friends and LEGO Star Wars theme. I’m a fan of these LEGO City Advent Calendars, and thankfully Promobricks have uploaded our first image of the set’s box art.
The 2018 LEGO City Advent Calendar (60201) features 4 minifigures including our main stay Santa. I’m looking forward in having that husky minifigure and the golden microfig on top of the Christmas tree. The microbuilds are decent as well, which is a shout out to this year’s LEGO City themes such as those from the Arctic and Mining sets.
Promobricks reports a release date of sometime in September, with the LEGO City Advent Calendar (60201) retailing for 19.99 Euros, which could also be around $30 same as that from last year.
