2019 to See New Edition of LEGO Ninjago Visual Dictionary

With the wide-ranging releases of LEGO sets and minifigures across different themes and licensed franchises, the publishing of supplementary printed material such as visual dictionaries by the likes of Dorling-Kindersley are a godsend to collectors, and also a great source of entertainment especially for fans of the properties depicted within.

Speaking of visual dictionaries and DK, they first published such a volume for the LEGO Ninjago line way back in 2014. In major LEGO book fashion, the Ninjago Visual Dictionary also included a free minifigure in the cover, that of Zane. Now, four years have passed since that first printing, and an update is welcome.

That’s why DK is bringing out a new edition of the LEGO Ninjago Visual Dictionary next year. In 128 pages of glorious color photographs the book will bring LEGO fans and collectors up to speed with the latest releases on the Ninjago line thus far.

In addition to the minifigure and Ninjago set images and info, the visual guide will also include a “Beyond the Brick” section detailing how they were conceptualized and developed. An interview with the Ninjago design team and rare concept sketches and artwork can also be found between the book’s covers.

Dorling-Kindersley expects to have the LEGO Ninjago Visual Dictionary New Edition to be released on bookstores sometime in September of 2019. As expected, it’ll also come with a free minifigure, though for now LEGO is keeping mum on the character’s identity. We’ll have to wait for later info. Preorders are also available on Amazon UK.

Learn More Build Technics for Boost Line on “The LEGO Boost Idea Book” from No Starch Press

Due to its seeming complexity, the LEGO Boost system of products seems to be pretty much stuck as a niche offering that’s only a sure sell for the more tech-savvy LEGO fans. Barring the default functions of Boost-compatible sets, making customized builds and mechanics for the line seems rather daunting.

But if you have some LEGO Boost sets and would like some suggestions on MOCs, perhaps you can invest in a copy of No Starch Press’s The LEGO Boost Idea Book. While not an official LEGO publication itself, the book’s got some superb tips on maximizing use of the Boost.

This volume is written by consummate LEGO author Yoshihito Isogawa, who has already written other idea books for LEGO’s Technic line and Power Functions system. The LEGO Boost Ideas Book has three major sections: first the basic builds utilizing the Boost motor and hub; second the construction of external-motor mechanisms; and third the use of Boost sensors for complex functions.

Boost owners can check out the book from the No Starch Press website; they offer free e-book versions of it for every hardcopy purchase. Alternatively, The LEGO Boost Ideas book can also be gotten elsewhere online for $16.34 at Amazon.

The LEGO Zoo Offers Easy-to-Build Animals Using Readily Available LEGO Bricks At Your Home

For younger-leaning LEGO builders, one favorite subject for brick creation would be animals. There’s something very imaginative about assembling basic LEGO bricks to create the basic shape of a beast or bird or dinosaur. A LEGO Animal Atlas released earlier this year by publisher DK featured plenty of animal-building instructions. Now, another brick-building book has  come out that shines the spotlight on brick-built animals. Unlike the DK Animal Atlas, it’s not officially partnered with LEGO, but The LEGO Zoo by Italian author Jody Padulano is just as appealing to children (and probably to some AFOLs as well) with its charming photography and building steps.

The LEGO Zoo: 50 Easy-to-Build Animals

A children’s book that shows how to build 50 simple models of LEGO animals using only standard LEGO parts that every LEGO fan has in their collection.

The LEGO Zoo book shows kids of any age how to build 50 simple animal models using only standard LEGO parts that are already likely to be in their collection. Readers learn how to build models of animals like crocodiles, zebras, wolves, lions, flamingos, plus many more. Projects are ordered by increasing difficulty making it easy to jump in without getting in over your head. The animals are so cute and goofy, whether building as a family or solo The LEGO Zoo is sure to deliver a roaring good time!

Originally published in Italy 2017, The LEGO Zoo proved a popular enough seller that No Starch Press has brought it into an international readership. In 200 pages it details 50 animals famous as exhibits in zoos all over the world, and features instructions to recreate these using basic LEGO blocks.

The LEGO Zoo is divided into five chapters sorting the featured animals by level of brick building difficulty and complexity. But young readers shouldn’t worry; they’re not that difficult. The book is now available on Amazon for $13.36, as well as from No Starch Press. Hard copies come with  the free eBook version.

New 2019 LEGO Star Wars Build Your Own Adventure Book Listed at Amazon UK

Here’s another DK offering that will appeal to LEGO Star Wars fans. After the reveal of the LEGO Harry Potter Build Your Own Adventure book a few days ago, Amazon UK has now listed a similar LEGO DK book that takes its cue from the LEGO Star Wars theme. The LEGO Star Wars Build Your Own Adventure Book Galactic Missions is now available for pre-order via Amazon UK, and I hope that it will find its way soon in the US.

LEGO Star Wars Build Your Own Adventure Book

Like other Build Your Own Adventure books, this upcoming release also comes with an exclusive LEGO Star Wars build and a minifigure. It also gives plenty of suggested alternate builds that you can create using the free LEGO pieces that goes with it. Understandably, the exclusive LEGO Star Wars build that comes with this book is still yet to be revealed, and we only have an outline of its image placeholder to speculate on. I couldn’t help but notice how similar it is to the shape and form of the Cloud City Patrol ship found in the recent LEGO Star Wars Betrayal at Cloud City (75222) set. The pieces also shown on the cover of the book, if this is the actual pieces to be used for the build, also hints on the predominantly dark red color of the ship.

The Cloud City Patrol Ship as seen in the LEGO Star Wars Betrayal at Cloud City (75222) Master Builder series.

The LEGO Star Wars Build Your Own Adventure Book Galactic Missions will be available on August 1, 2019 – a good nine months from now – and will retail for £19.99. That’s kind of a very long wait, but if you don’t mind the long wait, then I’m sure this book will eventually pop up at other Amazon regional sites very soon. Here’s a quick rundown of what to expect from this newest LEGO DK title.

LEGO Movie 2 Keeping It Awesomer With Emmet Book Reveals Exclusive Emmet Minifigure

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part is still a few months away from cinemas, but being a film based on an epic toy brand, and a much awaited sequel, means that it’s got a load of related merchandise coming in line with the premiere. Beyond the usual tie-in sets and collectible minifigures that we can expect from LEGO, Amazon has revealed our first LEGO Movie 2 inspired book that even comes with a free Emmet minifigure: The LEGO Movie 2 Keeping It Awesomer With Emmet.

Obviously, the book’s selling point will be the new minifigure iteration of Emmet as we see him again in the LEGO Movie 2 trailer. Based on this Amazon listing, Emmet seems to come with a pretty beat up garb (or it could be the clam shell cover, I’m not really sure), which is understandable considering after going through the apocalyptic events of Taco Tuesday.

A closer look at this new Emmet minifigure shows that he will also include a pair of goggles, and what looks like to be a plant piece from well, Planty.

Amazon already has Keeping it Awesomer with Emmet (which they call Emmet’s Guide to Being Awesome-rlisted on their platform. Here’s the book blurb:
