Record-Breaking 57 Product Ideas Qualify for the First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review

They just keep on coming, and I love it! The LEGO Ideas fan submission platform has just concluded with another record-breaking high, with a total of 57 product ideas qualifying for the First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review stage, as announced over their blogsite. These 57 submissions managed to get the necessary 10,000 fan votes needed to progress for this year’s first LEGO Ideas review.

Since the start of the pandemic, the LEGO Ideas platform saw a steady increase of fan submissions, largely as a result of increased LEGO building at home. As I’ve mentioned before in a previous related article, this is a testament to how LEGO building as a hobby, turned out to be a positive outlet for most LEGO fans as we strive to cope with the series of lockdowns and stay-at-home orders.

I’ve always been a fan of LEGO Ideas, and I’ve covered and supported some of its fan submissions that eventually found their way to becoming official LEGO Ideas sets. And I also intend to continuously cover every LEGO Ideas fan submission that reaches that 10K support milestone. However, the recent influx of review stage qualifiers is just kind of hard to keep track of! I guess I just have to double down on keeping them on my radar. It will always be a pleasure to see the creativity of the LEGO fan community spring into life, so be ready with the scroll wheel because this will be a very lengthy list.

Additionally, it should be mentioned that there was a particular fan submission that didn’t make the cut even though it managed to reach 10,000 supporters. The Stadium Tour did not eventually qualify for the First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review because it failed to follow the platform’s stipulated guidelines, particularly on “intellectual properties”.

As a last note, the Third 2020 LEGO Ideas Review Stage is about to be concluded, with the announcement of the winner slated to happen sometime this summer. We have to wait a lit bit more to see which among the 25 qualifiers in this particular review stage will go on to become an official LEGO Ideas set. LEGO Masters US Season 2 Contestants Revealed

We’re just a month away before we see the return of the grandest LEGO building contest on television. In its first season, we saw Tyler and Amy emerge as the ultimate LEGO Masters with their final build, The Treasure of the Griffin. And this time around, another batch of 12 teams will be vying for that coveted brick trophy, and $100,000 to become the ultimate champion in LEGO Masters US Season 2. The US version is released by FOX with LEGO Batman’s Will Arnett returning as its host. Its first episode is scheduled to air on June 1, 2021 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT).

Bringing imagination, design, and creativity to life, Season Two of LEGO MASTERS – hosted and executive-produced by Will Arnett – premieres Tuesday, June 1 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, when 12 new pairs of LEGO(R) enthusiasts go head-to-head, with infinite possibilities and an unlimited supply of LEGO(R) bricks. The new duos are set to compete against each other in even more ambitious brick-building challenges – including an earthquake tower challenge, a demolition derby, a LEGO(R) fashion show, and more – to be crowned the country’s most talented amateur LEGO(R) builders. In each episode, Arnett, alongside expert Brickmasters and LEGO(R) employees Amy Corbett and Jamie Berard, will encourage the builders, introduce incredible challenges and put their creativity and skills to the test. If you recall from several weeks ago, the LEGO Ideas platform has launched another building contest that celebrates our most creative renditions of space using LEGO bricks. And after declaring the Grand Prize winner and the next exciting gift-with-purchase (GWP) set, let’s take a look at how the 15 finalists of the LEGO Ideas Out of this World Space Builds fared out.

As the Grand Prize winner for the LEGO Ideas Out of This World Space Build contest, bulldoozer’s LEGO Ideas The Adventures of the USS Cardboard has the privilege of becoming the next official LEGO GWP set. And in case you don’t know yet, LEGO fan designer bulldoozer or Ivan Guerrero in real life is also the fan designer behind the more recent LEGO Ideas 123 Sesame Street (21324).

Congratulations once more to Ivan Guerrero and a huge thanks to all the finalists for inspiring us to just keep on building.

LEGO Ideas The Adventures of the USS Cardboard is Our Next LEGO GWP

Several weeks ago, the LEGO Ideas platform has launched another contest that tapped into the collective creativity of the LEGO fan community. Dubbed as the Out of This World Space Build Contest, the contest managed to pool 15 finalists vying to become LEGO’s next gift-with-purchase (GWP) set. And after the votes were finally tallied, the honor of being the next LEGO GWP has now landed to the upcoming LEGO Ideas The Adventures of the USS Cardboard.

Similar to its predecessor the LEGO Vintage Car (40448), the LEGO Ideas The Adventures of the USS Cardboard was a fan-submitted entry that managed to gather the highest number of votes (2,869 votes to be exact) among the LEGO fan community and will eventually become an official LEGO set.

Designed by LEGO fan builder bulldozer (aka Ivan Guerrero), the LEGO Ideas The Adventures of the USS Cardboard is Ivan’s playful take on his fond memories of ‘space adventures’ with his brother when they were children. Another fun fact in case you don’t know yet, Ivan Guerrero is also the LEGO fan designer behind the LEGO Ideas 123 Sesame Street (21324). Pretty neat right?

As a fan of minifigure vignettes, I personally voted for this entry and was sincerely looking forward to seeing this become an official LEGO set. The vibrant color scheme, the child-like wonder that the set evokes, surely hits all the nostalgic strings of childhood fun and awe. Plus, the story behind Ivan’s creative process speaks close to everyone’s heart – childhood innocence and a sense of wonder and adventure all wrapped up in close family ties make this set an absolute winner. Plus the fact that it appeals to LEGO’s classic Space theme really hits the sweet brick spot.

I’ll keep you posted once LEGO releases more information later on. Congratulations once again to LEGO Filipino fan designer Ivan Guerrero for this prestigious recognition!

Its Time to Cast Your Vote for the LEGO Ideas Out of This World Space Build Contest

The LEGO Ideas Out of This World Space Build contest has now entered its crowd vote stage. And with 15 finalists vying to be the Grand Prize winner and the bragging rights to be the next LEGO gift-with-purchase (GWP) set, it’s now up to the LEGO fan community to determine which is the best among the rest.

Launched last month, this next LEGO Ideas contest seeks to find the most playful and creative space-inspired, fan-made LEGO set out there under 250 bricks. This means that once turned into an official LEGO set, the winning entry will most likely be of the same size as that of its predecessor, the LEGO Vintage Car (40448). During the Review Stage, the LEGO Ideas Review Team selected the 15 finalists based on the following:

Now that the contest’s review stage has concluded with 15 finalists to choose from, fans can now cast their one (1) precious vote to help support the next LEGO GWP set. LEGO Ideas We Love Sports! Contest Crowd Vote Winners Announced

Last month, LEGO Ideas rolled out its list of finalists for its LEGO Ideas We Love Sports! building contest. And following the contest’s fan voting phase, we now have our grand prize winner based on what LEGO fans voted for.

If you recall, the LEGO Ideas We Love Sports! contest has a crowd vote phase where special prizes await the sports-themed LEGO MOC that received the most number of votes from February 15 to 25. And based on this pool of 10 finalists, the LEGO Idea Review Team will select one entry that will go on to become an official LEGO Ideas set, similar to what we have with the Music to Our Ears contest and with its soon-to-arrive LEGO Ideas Legendary Stratocaster. Needless to say, bagging the grand prize for the crowd vote does not guarantee that it will be eventually chosen as the next LEGO Ideas set. But looking at this winners list, I’m really hoping that it will be any of them.

LEGO Ideas A Map of Middle-Earth Project Reaches 10,000 Supporters

If winning the support of the LEGO fan community is not enough for the second time, why not earn it for the third time? Such feat is now impressively accomplished by LEGO fan builder and designer Artem Biziaev with his next product idea that managed to earn the support of 10,000+ LEGO fans – the LEGO Ideas A Map of Middle-Earth.

If you recall from last week, I reported on the current status of product ideas that have achieved support already over at LEGO Ideas, even if the First 2021 LEGO Review Stage is yet to commence in April. From this listing, we can find that other projects submitted by Artem eventually entered into that elite circle of 10K product ideas, which includes Hyrule Castle (The Legend of Zelda) and Baba Yaga. And now with the inclusion of his LEGO Ideas A Map of Middle-Earth product idea, almost all of his entries virtually advance to the next level.

The LEGO Ideas A Map of Middle-Earth features a brick-built version of Tolkien’s map of Middle-Earth, highlighting the many different places that were mentioned in the author’s Lord of the Ring trilogy. And much more, doing it in such a way that makes these locations easily recognizable even at a microscale. Mordor’s black, and infamous landscape can easily be recognized in this sort of 3D map (not to mention the wicked, all-seeing eye of Sauron), including The Shire and the kingdom of Erebor. Artem also included a handful of nanofigures of some of the most popular characters in the trilogy, adding a certain play feature to his product idea. You can chart a course for Frodo and Sam towards the land of Mordor, or you can send Pippin and Merry on a mission to Fangorn Forest. And of course, I love how this minifigure version of Tolkien turned out with several book accessories representing the Lord of Rings series plus The Hobbit.

Put your micro-Frodo and micro-Sam in the Dead Swamps, Pippin and Merry in the Fangorn forest, and everyone else in Helm’s Deep – so you played the events of the Two Towers.

LEGO Ideas My LEGO Totoro Product Idea Achieves 10K Support

After seeing the Jazz Quartet reached its 10K milestone, another product idea reaches the inner circle of the LEGO Ideas Review Stage. Coming from a LEGO fan builder that has one of his LEGO Ideas entries already approved for production, we now have another potential LEGO set in the form of the LEGO Ideas My Totoro product idea.

Designed by legotruman, the LEGO Ideas My LEGO Totoro is his next creation to get the thumbs-up approval of fans following his approved LEGO Ideas Vincent van Gogh The Starry Night. This next entry features Studio Ghibli’s iconic character based on the anime movie My Neighbor Totoro. The set features a brick-built version of Totoro, a smaller blue version of him, and minifigure versions of sisters Satsuki and Mei. But makes this set stand out other than Totoro is the inclusion of the famous Cat Bus.

The front side of the bus features a well-sculpted cat face and comes with a removable rooftop that reveals spacious bus seats. The bus also comes with six pairs of legs and a sizeable beaver-like tail.

To match the original animation, Lego Totoro is scaled to about twice the height of the Satsuki minifigure.
The whiskers are made of lego wolverine’s claws 🙂
The chest pattern is formed with lego parts instead of printed pieces.
I also used a smooth finishing surface to make it look cuter and more like the animation.

Cat Bus

Each leg is posable, so your Lego Cat Bus can run and jump as you like!
The left side of the main body has a loose part. You can easily switch the parts to give Cat Bus an open ‘door’, just like in the anime.
The roof is removable so you can easily access the interior, and put minifigures inside for a ride!
The top red panel displaying the destination is a 1×4 brick, multiple Kanji options can be included for changing the target station.

LEGO Ideas My LEGO Totoro joins 28 other projects to qualify for the First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage which is expected to begin late this March or early April.

LEGO Ideas Jazz Quartet Product Idea Hits 10K Fan Support

And the list just keeps on growing. It was only yesterday when I shared how the LEGO Ideas Review Team might be seeing their largest number of qualifying sets to enter a particular LEGO Ideas Review Stage as of date. We’re not even past the halfway mark of the First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage, and yet, we are already seeing a total of 27 product ideas that managed to gather 10,000 fan support starting January of this year. And this time around, another set is added to the roster of 10K achievers in the form of the LEGO Ideas Jazz Quartet product idea.

From the creative mind of LEGO fan builder Hsinwei Chi, this prolific builder managed to wow fans once more with his latest qualifying entry. This is not the first time that Hsinwei Chi’s creations were noticed by the LEGO Ideas Review Team. If you recall, one of his builds won as 2nd Runner Up for the LEGO Ideas Greatest Star Wars Battles Built By You. In addition to this achievement, the LEGO Ideas Jazz Quartet was also named as 2nd Runner Up for the more recent LEGO Ideas Music To Our Ears fan vote contest. And as if winning on these contests is not enough for this ultra-talented LEGO builder from Taiwan, his other creation (the Tribute to Youth – Skateboarding) has been chosen as one of the ten finalists in the LEGO Ideas We Love Sports! fan vote contest.

What makes Hsinwei Chi’s (also known as lego7 over at Instagram) creations stand out is their natural, almost organic feel that these builds have. It almost feels like we’re seeing a LEGO Miniland set, but upgraded up to a notch. The way they are posed and articulated, while still maintaining a distinct LEGO brick look and feel, stands out among the rest of the entries. Just take a look at his Instagram account where he usually posts his brick creations and you’ll get a better picture of what I mean.

JAZZ QUARTET

Speaking of music therapy, free-spirited jazz can be medicine for your mind, with benefits from memory improvement to stress relief.

Jazz Quartet consists of a grand piano, trumpet, double bass, and jazz drum. I would like to use LEGO bricks to express the musical vitality of the jazz band. When you look at this creation, the most familiar jazz improvisation will ring in your head.

The whole set consists of four musicians and a stage. Put it on the bookshelf and let us feel the warmth of jazz music.

The LEGO Ideas Jazz Quartet product idea joins the rest of 27 10K qualifiers to make it to the First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage which will commence sometime in April.

Get Your Game Face On With the LEGO Ideas We Love Sports! Fan Vote Contest

If you recall from late December of last year, LEGO Ideas launched a contest similar to what it did with the Music To Our Ears fan vote contest. And this time around, the contest’s theme centers on our love for sports – whether be it your favorite athlete, team, or for the love of the sports itself. The LEGO Ideas We Love Sports! fan vote contest is now in its crowd vote phase, with 10 outstanding builds that fans can support and vote for.

The mechanics of the contest is pretty straightforward: the contest entry with the most number of fan votes from February 15 to 25 will be declared as the Grand Winner and thus, entitled to receive the following goodies:

A custom LEGO trophy
One (1) LEGO Ideas International Space Station (21321) set
One (1) LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay (21322) set
One (1) LEGO Ideas Grand Piano (21323) set
One (1) LEGO Ideas 123 Sesame Street (21324) set
One (1) LEGO Ideas Medieval Blacksmith (21325) set
A LEGO Ideas Tote Bag

And from this pool of 10 finalists, the LEGO Ideas Review Team will select one product idea that has the potential to become the next official LEGO Ideas set. Similar to the mechanics of its previous Music To Our Ears contest, the Review Team’s choice of a product idea is independent of that from the product idea that received the most number of fan votes. If an entry was eventually chosen to be the next official LEGO Ideas set, then the fan designer will receive:

1% of the total net sales of the product
10 complimentary copies of the entry’s official LEGO Ideas set
Credit and bio in set materials as the LEGO Ideas Fan Designer
