News From The LEGO Star Wars Front: Will We See These Last Jedi Stars in Their LEGO Minifigure Forms?

Star Wars’ official Tumblr site has recently posted four, exclusive Vanity Fair covers that features how the Force is still very strong in the Star Wars galaxy, especially that the iconic film franchise is now celebrating its 40th anniversary. The magazine covers highlight a revamped look among the cast of the previous film, The Force Awakens, with some additional characters included.

The first thing that caught my attention is seeing for the first time, the person behind the mask of Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie), while Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) bearing the mark of his perilous encounter with Rey that left him with a very nasty scar. General Hux (Domhall Gleeson) also gets a makeover, with the First Order think-tank sporting a clean and snappy look. For LEGO Star Wars fans, the Vanity Fair covers featuring the Last Jedi cast offer exciting possibilities on how these characters will look in their minifigure forms. Take Captain Phasma for example – though her minifig counterpart is included in the First Order Transport (75103) set, there is noticeably no printed head piece that accompanied her minifigure. Now that the mask has been lifted off from her character, it is interesting to see the human side of the Stormtrooper captain. I hope to see this new minifigure version of Phasma in any of the LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi sets in the future.

75103 11 sw684

Kylo Ren may likewise have a new minifigure iteration to emphasize the battle scar that he got from his lightsaber duel with Rey. Include that together with the new TIE Fighter LEGO set that we wish to see, then it is fair to say that this LEGO set will surely be a fan favorite.

IMG 83831
This image was reported to be a Hot Wheels version of Kylo Ren’s very own TIE Fighter as it appears in The Last Jedi. It was posted by online retailer, Mikado, but has been removed from their site eventually.

Other than the characters standing in allegiance with the Dark Side of the Force, we also get to see several of the good guys of The Last Jedi as they grace the cover of Vanity Fair. We already know that Poe, Finn and of course BB-8 will be returning in Episode VIII, and as it turns out, they will be joined by another Resistance recruit named Rose. Very little is known about her character, except for director Rian Johnson’s description that she is an excellent mechanic, and an all-around maintenance troubleshooter that any Resistance pilot will surely love to have around. We also have a closer look at the new costumes of Rey and the legendary Luke Skywalker as they appear on the remote planet of Ahch-To. Other than a few seconds of air time towards the end of The Force Awakens, and a silhouette of his character as seen in The Last Jedi teaser trailer, it is only now that we get to see a full picture of Luke Skywalker. His garb suggests that this particular scene refers to his initial encounter with Rey and his subsequent training of the latter.

Now, experience tells us that if Disney and Lucas Films give that much of attention to a particular Star Wars character, chances are, LEGO has something in the works for that character. It is a no brainer to consider the main characters of Rey, Poe, Finn, and even those who pay allegiance to the Dark Side, being given the LEGO treatment. But what really piques my interest is how LEGO will render them in their minifigure forms. We thought of creating our own versions of the LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi sets that we think we will most likely have, which includes Rey’s Training MOC and the Resistance Skimmer MOC all courtesy of our resident Master Builder, Tyler.

So to sum it up, here’s our take on the LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi minifigures that we will probably see later on, probably in August or September.

Captain Phasma – a new version that will show a printed head piece, emphasizing the ‘humanness’ of her character.

Kylo Ren – another version of his character that prominently displays the facial scar that he received from his last battle with Rey, aboard his very own TIE Fighter.

General Hux – we only get to see him once as part of a LEGO set in Kylo Ren’s Command Shuttle (75104), but if his role extends as far as that in The Last Jedi, then we can somehow expect his comeback in a LEGO Star Wars set later on. Perhaps as a part of the contingent of First Order AT-4X Walkers on Crait? We will see.

75104 11 sw662

Poe and BB-8 – the teaser trailer of The Last Jedi has already revealed the fate of Poe’s signature X-Wing. Now that we know that it is utterly destroyed, it leaves us to wonder what starship will this duo be riding on to. Other than the LEGO Star Wars Poe’s X-wing Fighter (75102) and Resistance X-wing Fighter (75149) sets, it will be great to see these two speed their way through the galaxy aboard another brick-built LEGO starship. Perhaps a Resistance A-wing of some kind as hinted by other toy manufacturers?

star wars books celebration orlando 13 1

TLJ 03
The Resistance A-wing fighter is rumored to be the fastest interceptor in its roster of starships. I guess it was so fast that even the camera had a hard time getting a clear shot.

Finn and Rose –  since Rose is described as a handy Resistance mechanic with a technical flare of fixing almost anything, then it will not be a long shot to consider how the pilot-mechanic tag team of Finn and Rose will be a part of a possible Resistance Crait Skimmer/Speeder.

TLJ

Rey and Luke – as mentioned earlier, it will also be great if LEGO can throw in a kind of training set for Rey as she learns the subtle ways of the Force. It is also mentioned that The Last Jedi will offer a lot of screen time for the iconic Luke Skywalker, which also includes a rumored battle scene with the forces of Kylo Ren otherwise known as the Knights of Ren. It will be cool to see the minifig counterparts of these so called Knights and see how they will pit against the legendary Jedi Master.

TBS 001 2017 04 29 at 1.23.59 pm

Princess Leia – like other characters mentioned above, the late Carrie Fisher’s character of Princess Leia is most likely to be seen again in her minifigure form among the sets dedicated to The Last Jedi. As of to date, LEGO has only released one Star Wars set which includes the post-Imperial version of the famed princess as seen in the Resistance Troop Transporter (75140) set.

75140 11 sw718

It is my best guess that LEGO may have plans of paying tribute to the legacy of Carrie Fisher and the character that she brought to life in the Star Wars saga, specifically including her on future LEGO Star Wars TLJ sets. I would love to see her rendered in minifig form donned in the royal, dark mahogany brown dress that she sports on the cover of Vanity Fair.

I have to admit that these are all speculations at this point. These sets and their accompanying minifigs may, or may not happen regarding the priorities set out by Disney and LEGO. In any case, this is one LEGO Star Wars wishlist that this humble AFOL would like to see happen as an actual LEGO set.

So what do you say about it brick fans? Do you have other The Last Jedi characters that you would like to see in their minifigure forms? Let us know what you think in the comments below. Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi is slated for theatrical release on December 15, 2017.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 Full Trailer Is Finally Here – and It’s Loaded With Marvel Greatness!

WB Games and Traveller’s Tales pushed through with their promise of a full trailer reveal of its highly anticipated video game sequel, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2. Following the teaser trailer a couple of days ago, we now get to see the super-powered gang as they are expected to appear in the latest game sequel. Watch this.

I love the choice of having Rocket and Baby Groot in the frontlines, with their signature comedic style that blends smoothly with LEGO’s brand of friendly humor. We also get a nod on the comic version of the ‘planet with a face’, Ego which was recently personified in the big screen by Kurt Russell in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Simply put, it’s an absolutely cool mash-up of Marvel comic book lore and that of the MCU, wrapped in LEGO’s signature gameplay.

The LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 is now available for pre-order and is set for release on November 14, playable across major gaming consoles (Playstation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch). There are also rumors flying around that the game will also come bundled with an exclusive LEGO Marvel Goliath minifigure so we’ll keep our eyes open on this one.

LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2

Players will go head-to-head with the time-traveling Kang the Conqueror in an epic battle across Chronopolis, from Ancient Egypt and The Old West to Sakaar and New York City in 2099. Along the way, gamers will be able to take control of a host of iconic characters, from Cowboy Captain America from the past to Spider-Man 2099 from the future along with Thor, Hulk, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Green Goblin, and dozens of other Marvel Super Heroes and Super Villains.

Packed with entertaining LEGO humor for fans of all ages, LEGO® Marvel Super Heroes 2 features a four player multiplayer mode, allowing friends and family to play competitively or cooperatively as a team.

LEGO Launches the LEGO World of Creativity Tour.

Remember that time during the late 90s when LEGO introduced the concept of its LEGO Imagination Celebration Tour? Loaded with more than a half million LEGO bricks and pieces, the Truck Show was LEGO’s bearer of good tidings and was very much welcomed across 25 US cities during its brief stint. It was done, in part, to celebrate LEGO’s 25th anniversary in the US. LEGO fans, adults and children alike, experienced a unique building experience where they got the chance of participating in a variety of brick-building activities, the most memorable of which is the Ultimate LEGO Creation Building Contest. The LEGO Imagination Celebration Tour was so endearing to the LEGO Group that they eventually decided to immortalize the Truck Show as an actual complimentary LEGO set for those who participated in last year’s LEGO Inside Tour.

This time around, the tradition of sharing joy and spreading creative fun is very much alive again thanks to another ‘bricktastic’ adventure from LEGO. LEGO Systems Inc. has announced a similar tour to launch in North America beginning on July 7. Dubbed as the LEGO World of Creativity Tour, the brand new LEGO play experience promises tons of activities geared towards the entire family. The said tour will make five stops across the US and tickets are now available for purchase. Check out the LEGO Group’s official statement below.

The LEGO Speed Champions Mercedes AMG Petronas Team Gift 2017 Spotted at eBay.

It looks like LEGO has another one hiding under its sleeve, as far as its fast and furious sets are concerned. Brickset has just reported that a new LEGO Speed Champions set has been spotted over at eBay’s UK website, named as the Mercedes AMG Petronas Team Gift 2017 (75995). With only twelve sets, priced at £17.00 each, the eBay said listing quickly ended but not without Brickset saving a copy of its image.

230517speedchampionsgift

We don’t have information yet if this set will appear again in the wild, but we certainly hope that it will. For those into collecting these brick-built speedsters, it is a great opportunity to have the renowned F1 racing car without breaking the bank in buying the pricey Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team (75883) set just to complete their collection.

Thankfully, we have a handful of impressive Speed Champions sets offered this year to our hearts content, including the elegantly designed McLaren 720S (75880). So I guess we’re still cool.

Thanks to Brickset and Brick Fanatics for the heads up.

A Look At The LEGO Batman Movie Home Video Special Features and Promotional Freebies.

It looks like we’re off for a second wave of TLBM fever now that the film’s digital HD home video is now available for download. Apple’s iTunes Movies even joined in the irreverent fun by coming up with four LEGO-inspired posters of the most famous Bat films ever made over the course of the years, to help promote Warner Bros’ The LEGO Batman Movie.  The posters feature the many film versions of the brooding Dark Knight in his LEGO form, as seen in Batman Returns (1992), Batman Forever (1995), Batman and Robin (1997), and Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). I placed these posters along side with their LEGO-inspired versions so you can compare them.

It will be nice to have print versions of these digital, LEGO-inspired Batman movie posters, but the special features and freebies that go along with the 4K Ultra HD, 3D, Standard Blu-Ray Combos, and DVD versions of the film are definitely better. Other than what is listed below, the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray version features The LEGO Batman Movie in all its 4K, HDR glory, a Blu-ray disc of the film in high definition, and a digital copy in Ultraviolet Digital HD. All versions of the TLBM home videos highlights the following freebies.

Let’s also recall that Target is having a pre-order LEGO Batman Movie exclusive that features a free Batgirl minifigure (30612) polybag. Similar to the Penguin minifigure exclusively offered together by Scholastic, this Target exclusive shows Batgirl with a new head piece reported to have a different print as compared to her other versions found in the Catwoman Catcyle Chase (70902), The Joker Notorious Lowrider (70906), and The Ultimate Batmobile (70917). In all aspects, this Target exclusive is virtually identical with Rosario Dawson’s minifig counterpart in these sets, save for the different expression printed on its minifig head piece. Whatever the case is, the Target TLBM promotional exclusive is a good catch, especially if you’re into collecting all The LEGO Batman Movie minifigs that there are.

Another LEGO Batman Movie Activity Book Comes With a FREE Minifigure.

Remember that LEGO Batman Movie Tartan Batman minifigure exclusive that came out last November? If you recall, this minifigure comes as a free exclusive together with The LEGO Batman Movie Chaos in Gotham City Activity Book. It was received well amongst LEGO Batman collectors and aficionados, and a fine addition to a host of costumes and crazy outfits of the Dark Knight.

This time around, LEGO has teamed up once more with long-time print media partner, Scholastic, to offer another LEGO Batman Movie exclusive that comes with a nice freebie. Amazon France has posted another Scholastic Activity Book that features not that of Batman, but that of one of his long-time enemies, the Penguin.

Penguin

Though the graphic that comes with the Amazon France listing is not clear enough to give us a closer look at the minifigure (considering as well that it may well be written in German), it is quite clear from its silhouette that it belongs to the Penguin as he is seen in the Batcave Break-In (70909) set. This LEGO Batman Movie version of the Penguin comes in two variants: a cheery, smiling one as seen in 70909, and an angry, battle-ready Penguin as seen in the Penguin Arctic Roller (70911). Basically, they are the same minifigs except for the expressions printed on their respective head pieces.

Penguins
The Penguin as seen in Penguin Artic Roller 70911 (left), and his variant as seen in Batcave Break-In 70909 (right). The free Penguin minifigure that comes with the latest Scholastic Activity Book probably looks closer to the one on the right.

As we can see from the Amazon posting, the Penguin minifigure freebie seems to take its cue from the Batcave Break-In set. This may not prove to be as exciting as the Tartan Batman minifigure, but a good way nonetheless of adding the Penguin in your collection. I guess it’s a matter of time until we see the Scholastic Activity Book offered in the US. In the meantime, it is also good to know that the LEGO Batman Movie is now officially out in HD format via Amazon, and will soon be available in DVD and Blu-ray on June 13.

LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 Rumored to Have a Pre-Order Minifigure Exclusive.

Traveller’s Tales and Warner Bros. Games have announced the long-awaited video game sequel, LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2. Pre-orders are already offered both by Best Buy and Amazon, with the video game set for release on November 14 of this year. If you think placing your order six months ahead is quite far off, then knowing that LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 comes with an exclusive promo might interest you.

LEGO MarvelSuperheroes 2 PS4

The Brick Fan has just shared some information that the highly anticipated game may come bundled with an exclusive LEGO Marvel Superheroes minifigure polybag. The catch? It isn’t any one of the Marvel characters that we’ve seen gracing the cover of the game’s box art, and it is, as far as we know, the very first LEGO minifig of his kind. The said polybag exclusive is rumored to be none other than the upgraded version of Hank Pym’s Giant-Man. For those of you who are familiar with the Marvel comics storyline, Goliath is the iteration of Pym’s Giant-Man- one among many identities that Pym held as a member of the Avengers. It may come as a rather odd choice for LEGO to choose a relatively random Marvel superhero to use as promotional leverage for such a huge and highly popular game, but the air of exclusivity that comes with the Goliath minifig somehow makes up for it.

In case you’re wondering how it looks like, several online sources have already leaked the Goliath minifig’s image, and we are not at liberty to share it with you here. However, to give you an idea on how it may look like, here are some old school, Marvel comic book pages that show how Goliath looks. This comes closest to the minifig version that we have seen so far. Interestingly, Brickset has already added a Giant Man Hank Pym (30610) polybag that hints on the said minifigure exclusive.

LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 retails at $59.99 and will be available across all major consoles including the Xbox One, Playstation 4, PC (via Steam) and Nintendo Switch. Watch out for the game’s full trailer reveal on May 23.

Players will go head-to-head with the time-traveling Kang the Conqueror in an epic battle across Chronopolis, from Ancient Egypt and The Old West to Sakaar and New York City in 2099. Be Inspired With Your Next Pirates Build With Blocks Magazine Issue #32.

Blocks Magazine Issue #32 is now available for subscribers. This month, Issue #32 helps you to come up with your own unique pirates build based on the Silent Mary (71042) set, and just in time before the 5th instalment of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales hit theaters on the 26th. We also get to look at some GOTG Vol. 2 builds, building techniques that are unique to the LEGO Friends theme, and how to create the most realistic curtains and blinds to decorate your LEGO MOC interior.

Here’s the full press release of Blocks Magazine Issue #32.

BlocksMagazineIssue32June2017 710x1002

This summer sees two massive LEGO-related sequels arriving in cinemas, both of which get the big build treatment they deserve in the latest issue of Blocks magazine.

Pirates of the Caribbean sees its fifth installment sail into cinema screens just as The Silent Mary finds itself shipwrecked on LEGO Store shelves, inspiring a build project like never before. A series of scenes commissioned exclusively for Blocks magazine showcases the new set with plenty of tips along the way to inspire your next Pirates build.

Pirates 4 Pirates 3 Pirates 2 Pirates 1

As for the other sequel, the dramatic scene in which the band of misfits that are the Guardians of the Galaxy face off against the Abilisk was not without its challenges as a build, but the finished result was well worth the hard work. So much so that when you flip this month’s magazine over, you get an alternative cover featuring the Guardians.

But that’s not all, as we delve into how the topic of visual thinking relates to building with LEGO, TT Games take us behind the scenes of their most creative video game yet and we go through the LEGO Friends houses to see what makes these homes so appealing.

Friends 1 Friends 4 Friends 2 Friends 3

In Technique we demonstrate how to build curtains and blinds to decorate those LEGO interiors, BrickPicker looks at Creator sets to see whether 3-in-1 means three times the profits and the Reviews section measures up the latest Technic, Guardians of the Galaxy and Pirates of the Caribbean sets. With plenty more filling the pages in between, it’s another month full of LEGO action.
