Europe’s largest toy fair is now in full swing. The Nuremberg Toy Fair 2020 has kicked in at the Nuremberg Exhibition Center in Germany, and similar to previous toy events, LEGO intends to flaunt its latest sets to arrive in the second half of the year. And thanks to Andres Lehmann from German LEGO fan site Zusammengebaut, we now have our first info regarding what to expect from upcoming LEGO City 2020 sets.
Similar to other toy fairs, taking images is strictly prohibited since most of this is understandably under embargo. However, we are at liberty to at least provide the set names which are listed below. From the looks of it, the next wave of LEGO City sets will follow an Air Transport and Deep Sea Explorers subthemes, with the latter released back in 2015.

It is interesting to note here that according to Andres, the Marine Research Vessel (60266) is a pretty large set that even comes with waterproof stickers. Furthermore, it seems to be the largest among these sets that also features a docking bay in the middle to load other smaller ships, perhaps the Marine Research Submarines for that matter. I’m also not really sure for the reason behind these sets having waterproof stickers, but could it be that this set is intended to be played on water? What do you think?
This next wave of LEGO City sets is scheduled for release in June and July, with official images to be out soon hopefully sometime next month when the New York Toy Fair kicks in from February 22 to 25. These new LEGO City 2020 sets follow LEGO’s announcements of a new LEGO Technic Lamborghini set, and one that is based on the Fast & Furious film franchise.
I guess you will not be surprised anymore about this next wave of LEGO set reveals, especially considering the fact that we already saw a handful of new-for-2020 sets make their public debut during the past week. For those who are not that much into LEGO’s licensed sets such as those from Star Wars or Trolls themes, then here’s something that you may want to check out. To be frank, this piece of news has been circulating around the web for a few days already. And as of to date, more and more LEGO City 2020 sets are being revealed as we count the days before January 1st.
Taking them on face value, I have to say that these upcoming LEGO City 2020 sets are, well, a bit underwhelming. I don’t want to make this post sound like a review or commentary, but I felt that I have to address the brick elephant in the room. Perhaps I have the previous LEGO City subthemes in my mind such as the successful LEGO City Space, Arctic,Mining, and Jungle subthemes as my benchmarks in looking at these LEGO City 2020 sets. Somehow, I don’t feel the same thrill and excitement for these new arrivals as compared to their predecessors. I know that LEGO has a tendency to rehash or take inspiration from its previous sets, but doing so on a regular basis leaves a sort of a ‘subtheme fatigue’ for those who are familiar with the LEGO City genre.
In any case, I’m still hopeful that LEGO has something new in store for its line-up of LEGO City 2020 sets. Its good to know that these current reveals are all limited to the first half of the upcoming year, so we can definitely expect more to come in the second half of 2020. My best bet is that the Summer 2020 wave of LEGO City sets will have a sort of an outback, safari kind of theme. One of the sets in this reveal is already a give away in the form of Safari Adventure (60267) so let’s see if this will eventually come to pass.

While LEGO City is still making waves with its new NASA-inspired sets, it looks like its getting ready for another wave of winter sets slated to be released next month. Thanks to a tip from Promobricks, German online toystore Lucky Bricks has now uploaded several images of the new LEGO City Ski Resort (60203). Take a look.
The set comes in at 806 pieces and with an impressive collection of 11 minifigures including 3 Ski Patrol Officers, a Ski Shop Salesman, a Helicopter Pilot, a Skier, a Snowboarder, 2 children, a Beverage Vendor, and a customer. The set also comes with a dog figure and a buildable snowman figure.

After LEGO has updated its database to include the latest LEGO Creator 2019 sets, we now get a closer look at the upcoming LEGO City summer 2019 sets also listed at shop.LEGO.com. First glimpsed last April, this series also includes one set that carries the 4+ branding and an impressive People Pack set all slated to be released on August 1st. These latest sets don’t follow a specific subtheme though, unlike the highly popular LEGO City Space theme. Nevertheless, they are still a fun addition to your ever-expanding brick city. Earlier this week we spotted, courtesy of a French LEGO site, a Minifigure Pack Tie-In for the next MCU movie. “The Spider-Man: Far from Home” Pack (40343) has some nice exclusive character minifigs inside. But that turns out to be only one of a burst of new LEGO blister packs. These other Minifigure mini-sets are for LEGO’s own theme and franchise. There’s the LEGO Ninjago Minifigure Pack (40342) with four minifigs and a relic that splits into multiple weapons. Included are Ninjago hero Kai, baddies Pyro Snake and Ice Samurai, and adventurer archeologist Clutch Powers. He’s from the 2010 DVD-released animated movie.
Next up is the LEGO City Minifigure Pack (40344). From this we know that the products are all summer 2019 releases. It has two beachgoers, a surfer girl and a snorkeler. Accessories range from an ice cream cart, two animal pieces (parrot and crab).
The LEGO City Minifigure Pack (40344) as an upcoming LEGO City item is a tad disconnected from the latest big-box sets of the line. As one might recall, these sets depict space and Mars exploration. The LEGO Ninjago Minifigure Pack (40342) does get extra points for having a rare character in Clutch Powers. That’s a neat addition to any expansive Ninjago character collection.

Towards the end of January, LEGO has announced at the annual Nuremberg Toy Fair in Germany that its next line of LEGO City themed sets will be a sort of trip back to memory lane with the launch (pun intended) of its new LEGO City Space subtheme, slated for release this summer. Now thanks to online Dutch toy retailer KelCha Toys, we now have our first look at our LEGO City Space Summer 2019 set images. I’m not really sure about the accuracy of the set’s titles and their respective product descriptions since they were roughly translated from Dutch courtesy of Google Translate. Nevertheless, it’s an interesting read that gives a glimpse of what we can expect from these LEGO City Space sets once they are made available sometime in June.
I know most of us AFOLs are fans of the classic LEGO Space theme, with LEGO some what reviving this classic line back in 2011 and 2015. So for those who were not able to get their hands on these previous sets 8 and 4 years ago respectively, now’s the good time to get these latest sets. As a final note, its nice of LEGO to include another People Pack together with these subtheme, which offers a lot of new pieces and elements.

The LEGO Customer Service portal has uploaded another set of building instructions that you might find interesting. The building instructions to create the new LEGO City Popcorn Cart (30364) polybag can now be found online. This newest small and fun build is the third polybag set included in the new for 2019 line-up of LEGO city polybags following the Fire ATV (30361) and Sky Police Jetpack (30362)
The LEGO City Popcorn Cart (30364) comes in approximately 40 pieces and includes a popcorn vending guy minifigure, a popcorn cart that comes with a ‘popping’ popcorn play feature and a nicely printed 1×1 brick element for the popcorn box. I’m not really sure, but I think the 1×1 printed brick is new for this one, and the excellent use of the rare cartwheels similar to that to the Hot Dog Stand (30356) is a welcome bonus for collectors and builders. The design of Popcorn Cart also reminds me of some of the arcade builds offered at our official storefront, the Brick Show Shop, with some modifications of course. Our regular readers here on The Brick Show who have been following the release of LEGO City sets throughout the year would remember the wave of sets that showed a rather un-city-like setting: the LEGO City Arctic subtheme. The awesome sets that showed high-tech vehicles traversing ice shelves and even digging up a frozen mammoth would fire up the imaginations of LEGO explorers. These LEGO City sets together would make for a sprawling brick-built base where one can imagine exploring the subzero cold regions of the uttermost north. And LEGO knows this too if their latest promotional package for Shop@Home UK with the LEGO City Adventures in the Arctic Bundle (5005749).
