Boutique Hotel (10297) Coming January 1 for LEGO Modular 15th Anniversary

LEGO kick-started the modular building set back in 2007, when they launched Café Corner (10182). Since then it’s been a decade and a half of awesome building sets melding together into a brick-built neighborhood. That also makes the coming year of 2022 the 15th anniversary for the “Modular Building Series.” Such an occasion calls for a one-of-a-kind LEGO set, to be sure. And back in October we caught wind of rumors to that regard. This would be set number 10297, with the reported name (translated from Promobricks.de) being Hotel & Art Gallery. Brickset gives us a different name, but the set’s officially confirmed at least.

Say hello to the 15th anniversary release for LEGO’s Modular Buildings Collection, Boutique Hotel (10297). At first glance, the build looks like a quaint old European-style hotel building with outdoor bar and side boutique/gallery.  But closer details reveal that the set features call-backs some past LEGO modular sets. Boutique Hotel (10297) true to form slots into its fellow modular sets to build a seamless city block (banner picture). It will launch on January 1 as part of the New Year 2022 LEGO product storm. AFOL collectors must have earmarked this as a vital acquisition already.

Rumor of LEGO Creator Expert Modular 15th Anniversary Set: Hotel & Art Gallery (10297)

In 2007 LEGO released a set, the Café Corner (10182).  This was the beginning of a series of LEGO building sets that were modular in function. Since then some 16 sets have come from the “Modular Buildings Collection.” They could be put together to form a city street’s worth of shops and establishments. We got the latest of these, Police Station (10278), way back in January, too. With its start in 2007, it means the Modular Buildings Collection turns 15 years old in 2022. Surely there’s no better way to celebrate that milestone than by a new modular set release.

That, coincidentally, is the subject of this new rumor from German LEGO news source Promobricks.de. Said set, numbered 10297, will have a commonality with the originating product, the Café Corner (10182). That set comprised the aforementioned corner café paired with a hotel. 10297 will also feature a hotel building, only this time it’s paired with an art gallery. In addition, the shape of the brick-built structure tapers off instead of having four 90-degree corners like its predecessors. A comparison can be made to New York City’s Flatiron building, which houses a LEGO Store. The Flatiron also had an earlier LEGO Architecture set adaptation, now retired.

Some specs about this set according to Promobricks are the presence of street arches, nougat-colored pieces, and 6 minifigures. This LEGO Hotel and Art Gallery (10297) will release January 1, 2022 alongside a 15th anniversary GWP (number 40532). Or at least the rumor says so; and that’s what we must treat this info for now.

WATCH: LEGO Creator Expert Police Station (10278) Designer Video

After making its official debut a couple of weeks ago, LEGO has now released an accompanying designer video for its next modular set, the LEGO Creator Expert Police Station (10278). LEGO Designer Chris McVeigh gives us an inside tour of the Police Station (10278), and its neat little secrets waiting to be revealed. Watch this.

Like those before it, the Police Station is more than just a modular set. In typical LEGO fashion, it tells a story amongst its minifigure characters, particularly with the mysterious Donut Thief. It boasts several play features including a winding staircase that passes through all its floors.  Aside from the Police Station itself, the set also has an adjacent Donut Shop, an apartment, annex, and a newsstand.

What is also interesting is the use of several LEGO Minecraft wolf headpieces for the building’s cornice and the 1×3 inverted bow in new colors. The set also boasts five new minifigures, including ’40s-era Police Officers.

2021 LEGO Creator Expert Modular Set To Be Revealed Soon

We’re just a few days shy before we enter the last month of the year, and as is customary for LEGO, we are now in for a treat this Black Friday as we are about to witness the reveal of the upcoming 2021 LEGO Creator Expert Modular set that fans have been waiting for.

lego modular 2021

The teaser announcement came via LEGO’s social media channel, alongside other things to expect this Black Friday such as the LEGO Creator Expert Colosseum (10276) and other LEGO sets that were popular this 2020.

Word on the brick street says that this might be a modular police station that somehow resembles a museum at the same time. It somehow follows a building design with a classic Venetian vibe. It is also said to have around 3,000 pieces, featuring three or four levels, and also a helipad. It includes five minifigures, three of which are police officers. I’m not at liberty to show any images because of obvious embargo reasons, but if you don’t mind the spoilers, here’s a link to that image courtesy of eagle-eyed fans over at Eurobricks. This image was supposedly taken from a third-party retailer who is all too eager to share the details of this new 2021 LEGO Creator Expert Modular Set.

blurred modular police station
The anticipated 2021 LEGO Creator Expert Modular set is said to be a police station. We’ll just have to wait and see if it is the case.

If such is the case, then having a police station is a nice addition to your sprawling LEGO City/Modular creation. I also like the fact that the LEGO designers behind this set opted for a classic Venetian-like approach (Brickset guesses that it is Chris McVeigh who is behind this set) for this next modular offering. This sets it apart from other LEGO City Police buildings that show a modern architectural design befitting of the LEGO City theme.

This upcoming 2021 LEGO Creator Expert Modular Set is slated to be revealed as part of LEGO’s Black Friday Showcase which will stream on Facebook at 10 AM EST/3 PM GMT/4 PM CET. Be sure to keep tabs on LEGO’s social media pages, and here at our blog site for more updates.

First Look at the LEGO Creator Expert Old Trafford-Manchester United (10272)

It looks like we’ll be seeing this year’s first LEGO Creator Expert set very soon. If you’re keeping tabs with the news going through the leaking faucet, then you’ll probably recall that there were rumors last November of a LEGO and Manchester United partnership. The details were a bit sketchy though, with no particular announcement given on what kind of LEGO products will be offered that will make Manchester United fans surely happen. Personally, I first thought that this latest offering might include another CMF series similar to what LEGO did with the LEGO German National Football DFB Collectible Minifigures (71014) series released back in 2016. However, as it turned out, it was larger and grander than what I expected. Thanks to Promobricks, we now have our first look at the LEGO Creator Expert Old Trafford-Manchester United (10272).

10272 2

Truth be told, the following images are all-around social media right now, with an official press release expected anytime soon, so I guess the cat is out of the bag already. For fans of Europe’s leading football team, the LEGO Creator Expert Old Trafford-Manchester United (10272) is an exquisite display set to show your pride for the team. Coming in at 3,898 pieces, the set recreates the famous Old Trafford stadium complete with all the details such as the Sir Alex Ferguson and Bobby Charlton Stands. It’s a faithful brick rendition of the second-largest football stadium in the UK, together with its impressive seats and football field. In case you’re not familiar with the Old Trafford Stadium, then you may want to see this nifty video courtesy of travel vlogger Renata Pereira.

Based on these first images, it seems that the set itself will consist of four modules (representing the stands) that can be rearranged to allow a better view of the football field inside. The LEGO Creator Old Trafford-Manchester United (10272) is expected to retail for 269.99 Euros.

Be sure to stay tuned for more updates, with more news to be released about this set anytime soon.

WATCH: LEGO Creator Expert Bookshop (10270) Designer Video

After unveiling its next modular building set, LEGO has now released its LEGO Creator Expert Bookshop (10270) designer video. In this 5-minute video, LEGO Design Master Wes Talbott and LEGO Senior Graphic Designer Tore Harmark -Alexandersen give us a walkthrough on the fine details of this next LEGO modular set. Watch this.

One of the interesting features of this latest modular is that it comes as a sort of a 2-in-1 set: the Bookshop itself, and its adjacent apartment can be split apart either as standalone 3-story brick structures or as a single unit. An extra set can be used to add more floors if you wish to have a taller build.

LEGO Creator Expert Bookshop

Similar to previous LEGO sets of its genre, it kind of tells a story of the minifig occupants included with the set. Wes admits that he took his design inspiration from his parents and how he recalls his father to be a sort of local hero. These minifigures come with recolored elements such as the lady’s wig that now comes in black and the little boy’s scarf that is now available in green.

LEGO Creator Expert Bookshop

Speaking about recolored elements, the LEGO Creator Expert Bookshop (10270) comes with a handful of these most noticeable are the new plant and animal elements – the Dark Azure bird and the Dark Turquoise chameleon to be exact. For a complete list of all the new, recolored pieces included in this set, it will be helpful to visit New Elementary’s comprehensive review of the Bookshop. As an added treat, it was revealed that all the decorated pieces that come with this new modular are all printed. LEGO opted to throw away the sticker sheet this time.

Classic LEGO Pirates Are Back With The LEGO Ideas Pirate Bay

The First 2019 LEGO Ideas Review Results are on a roll. After the announcement of the now approved LEGO Ideas 123 Sesame Street and LEGO Ideas Playable Piano, it looks like LEGO fans are on to a nostalgic pirate trip in this next approved 10K project, the LEGO Ideas Pirate Bay.

LEGO Ideas Pirate Bay

Originally designed by Spanish audio-visual artist Pablo Jimenez (aka Bricky_Brick over at LEGO Ideas), the LEGO Ideas Pirate Bay is a modular set that every fan of the classic LEGO Pirates will surely want to have. It has been four years ago when LEGO released its last pirate-inspired sets since the theme’s inception way back in 1989. Undoubtedly, this is one of LEGO’s most beloved and successful original creations, and seeing the LEGO Ideas Pirate Bay finally becoming a reality as an official LEGO set seems to be long overdue. The best part of it is that the brick-built pirate fortress follows a modular design similar to the likes of the LEGO Ideas Old Fishing Store (21310).

LEGO Ideas Pirate Bay

Pablo’s original design clocks in at somewhere between 2,550 to 2,650 pieces and includes seven (7) pirate minifigures. It also features four (4) interchangeable levels that highlight some of the things that a sea-loving pirate would love to do: having a hearty meal, manning the cannons, and planning their next adventure on the high seas.

lego ideas pirate bay 3

The LEGO Ideas Pirate Bay

Prepare the cannons sailors, you have to defend the bay!

Welcome to the impregnable pirate fortress, house of Red beard, many sailors fear these waters, the most dangerous pirates make their stop here. Be careful not to be locked in jail or possibly the only place you can be, as long as you do not find the secret exit.

There is a rumor, they say that there is a treasure map, it is believed that it is below the canteen, many of them are looking for the treasure but none of them have yet achieved it. Will you be able to find it?

It is time to return to the classics and what better than this super bastion built on shipwrecks, with traps like the pendular anchor that warns unexpected visitors and the dog and the monkey guardian. The food is delicious in our tavern, many pirates only stop to eat here. In this small pirate town we find a small farm with pigs and chickens, lobsters crabs and fish, also delight this area.

A Modular set that includes 7 minifigures and: 1 monkey, 1 scorpion, 3 crabs, 3 hens, two pigs, 3 parrots, a shark, and a dog.

The LEGO Ideas Pirate Bay is tentatively scheduled for release some time next year, and with two other equally impressive LEGO Ideas sets that go along with it, 2020 is certainly a great year to be a LEGO Ideas fan. Again, our warmest congratulations to Pablo Jimenez and to all who made this next LEGO set possible.
