Here’s Your Chance to Design The Next LEGO Gift With Purchase Set With the LEGO Ideas Moments in Space Contest.

Coming from its successful “Build Your Own LEGO Ideas Logo” contest, the LEGO Ideas Team is back and this time, in search of the first ever, community-inspired, LEGO exclusive Gift With Purchase (GWP) set. It seems that LEGO has finally considered the idea of a fan-designed LEGO GWP ever since the idea was discussed extensively across LEGO fan forums. The announcement has been made over at the LEGO Ideas website, and will eventually follow a classic space theme.

LEGO Ideas Moments in Space

Titled as LEGO Moments in Space, the contest is open to all LEGO fans, ages 13 and above, and will run from January 15 until February 9, 2018 at 6AM EST. Entries should be able to fit on a 16 X 16 stud LEGO baseplate, using around 300 standard LEGO pieces and elements coming from themes such as LEGO City, CMF, and Creator. As the contest title suggests, entries must capture that space exploration or adventure vibe. Entries using LEGO Digital Designer are also accepted.

Of course, what’s a LEGO contest without those sweet, sweet prizes? The Grand Prize winner will have the bragging rights to have his original creation featured as the next LEGO GWP sometime in 2019, a $250 LEGO shopping spree over at shop.LEGO.com, and a collection of past exclusive LEGO GWP sets, including:

5037118 IDEAS Moments in Space Grand Prize

Ten (10) Runner Ups will also be selected and each of them will receive a $125 worth of LEGO shopping spree also on shop.LEGO.com plus the Mini Piggy Bank (40251), Snowglobe (40223) and Christmas Build Up 2017 (40253).

5037123 IDEAS Moments in Space Runner Up

Be sure to check with the LEGO Ideas Moments in Space Contest website for the complete list of rules and guidelines to be observed. I am personally excited to see how this contest will turn out. I’m a fan of some of these smaller, vignette type sets so I am particularly curious how a Space-themed GWP set will turn out. Just be sure to submit your entries on or before the said deadline. Happy building!

Winners of “Build Your Own LEGO Ideas Logo” Contest Revealed

Back in November, LEGO opened a design contest both to celebrate the first decade of their fan design-to-official set support platform LEGO Ideas, but also to spruce up the design for their logo. Interested participants needed only to submit their artistic creations in LEGO bricks, other materials or digital CGI.

Winners of the contest would receive some of the famous sets to be released under the LEGO Ideas program, with the Grand Prize contestant having his design be adopted as the new official logo. The deadline for entries passed on December last year, and last Friday, the winners were announced.

From LEGO’s last count, a total of over 600 entries were sent to the Build Your Own LEGO Ideas Logo before the December deadline. The Grand Prize Winner was a contestant known as L87R85, whose design, Switch on the Ideas, shows a light-bulb, wire and plug rendered in CGI bricks.

The LEGO Group hasn’t quite made clear yet when this new logo will be used for LEGO Ideas, whether on website or as labeling on future sets. What is known, however, is that while only the Grand Prize entry becomes the official logo, LEGO will also use the runner-up entries.

As LEGO celebrates the 10th year of what originally began as LEGO Cuusoo, the non-Grand Prize winning designs will also be utilized in the event for tribute. These contestants also received two NASA-themed LEGO Ideas sets while L87R85 won six; check more details in our last article about the contest.

See the other runner-up designs in the official LEGO Ideas website, along with judges’ commentary on the logos including L87R85’s Grand Prize winner. And here’s an advance greeting to LEGO Ideas for another ten years or more of helping fans crowd-fund great build designs into future best-selling official LEGO sets.

WATCH: How To Create A Platinum LEGO R2-D2 Minifigure.

If you recall, LEGO has launched another contest where you can have the chance to bring home a solid platinum, LEGO R2-D2 minifigure just by entering a raffle. The nice part of it is that there is no required purchase to join, but to simply subscribe to LEGO’s email list for future correspondence and announcements. Two of these minifigure blings will be raffled away, with an estimated value of more than $3,200 each. The raffle period is currently running until January 12, and is open to all residents of Europe and the US, and other countries where LEGO Brand Stores can be found except for Asia.

Now, just a few moments ago, LEGO has posted via its Facebook page a video, showing how these prized minifigures are crafted. I have to say that making these prize collectibles really requires a lot of patience and skill, especially that most of the process is done by hand. It also looks like LEGO has more in store other than the platinum versions of R2-D2. We can see from the video below that other than the platinum minifigs, there are also silver and white gold ones that were created. I’m not sure on what LEGO will do or what they intend to do with the silver and gold R2s, but having one of these is surely a catch of a lifetime for any AFOL.

This contest is open to all contestants 18 years old and above, and be sure to visit the contest registration page to have your chance of winning one of these ultra rare collectibles. May the Brick Force be with you.

These LEGO Porgs Have Taken Over London – Here’s Your Chance To Bring Home One of Them.

We reported earlier how LEGO was taken over by an irresistibly cute avian-like species straight from Star Wars: The Last Jedi. As a part of a promotional campaign, LEGO has teamed up with LEGO certified professional Duncan Titmarsch and his team of master builders at Bright Bricks to create larger-than-life replicas of these beloved critters from the latest chapter in the Star Wars saga. These small, adorable creatures from the alien world of Ahch-To are made even more charming thanks to their excellent brick-built rendition. These LEGO Porgs statues were spotted at some of London’s key areas, including London’s South Bank, going to Millenium Bridge and past St. Paul’s Cathedral, to London’s Trafalgar Square, and finally nesting at the LEGO Store in Leicester Square.  For more information on how these LEGO Porg statues were made, be sure to visit Bright Bricks’ blogsite.

Yes, one of these 2-feet tall statues (made out of 8,000 LEGO pieces and weighing almost 17 kilos each) can now be yours for free by simply purchasing any LEGO Star Wars products at shop.LEGO.com from December 15 to January 15, 2018.

“These ARE the Porgs you’re looking for…”

LEGO® brings the internet’s heroes of Star Wars: The Last Jedi to London for epic adventure – and gives the public the chance to win their own…

A group of LEGO Porgs – the new Star Wars critters that have set the internet alight – have this week been seen travelling across London and taking in the sights as film fans across the country return to the galaxy far, far away in the latest chapter of the epic Skywalker saga.

LEGO is also giving the public the chance to win one of three of the uniquely built brick birds over the Christmas period*.

From today until the 15th of January, members of LEGO’s free VIP loyalty scheme that buy a LEGO Star Wars set via shop.LEGO.com will automatically be entered into a ballot to be in with a chance to receive their very own LEGO Porg in the new year, the creature adored by stars from the film including Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill and the film’s director, Rian Johnson – who created them himself.

The group (or ‘murder’) of LEGO Porgs travelled from London’s South Bank, across Millennium Bridge and past St. Paul’s Cathedral – before finishing their sight-seeing tour at London’s Trafalgar Square and the LEGO store in Leicester Square.

First 2017 LEGO Ideas Review Results Are Finally In With TRON Legacy Light Cycle Being the Next Official LEGO Ideas Set.

The LEGO Ideas Review Team has finally revealed our next LEGO Ideas set. Topping off the list of 11 candidates that reached that coveted 10K votes, we now have the TRON Legacy Light Cycle by BrickBros UK. This set is based on Walt Disney Pictures’ 2010 sequel TRON: Legacy, from the original 1982 film, TRON. Sam Flynn’s Light Cycle is probably one of the most visually stunning piece of machine in the movie, which was perfectly captured in LEGO bricks by sibling designers Tom and Drew of BrickBros UK. Earlier this month, there has been some rumors going around that a particular LEGO TRON set is in the works, considering that licensing will not be an issue since Disney owns the rights for the film. Now we have confirmation that the said rumor is indeed true, and we now have the LEGO  Ideas TRON Legacy Light Cycle as our next official LEGO Ideas set.

4905136 First 2017 Review Results MPDhaSyfhdl8Dw thumbnail full

According to an interview with the LEGO Ideas team, Tom and Drew does not have an exact piece count for the set, but it is likely to be at around 100-200 LEGO elements and pieces. Unsatisfied with existing MOCs of the iconic TRON vehicle, the brothers came up with the idea of building one of their own and have it done on a minifigure scale. Particularly challenging is coming up with an overall color scheme that will give justice to the Light Cycle. Tom and Drew eventually choose predominantly black and trans blue pieces for the bike, and same trans blue pieces and azure plates for the base.

We don’t have any official word yet regarding its price and availability, as it is still to be fined tuned by the LEGO Ideas Design Team later on. Here’s the usual LEGO Ideas video announcement, as posted over at their Twitter page.

Special mention was also given to the creators of the Surf Rescue Project, the father and son duo of Damien and Aiden McRae. Damien was diagnosed with Stage 4 skin cancer and was inspired to create this set to spread awareness of this skin disease, and how to prevent it. Though their set wasn’t eventually approved, LEGO promised that they will be working closely with Damien and Aiden on special projects to share their story and message.

In closing, LEGO Ideas has also officially announced that the Second 2017 LEGO Ideas Review Results will be coming in early of 2018. We have a relatively low number of sets – six in fact – that gathered the needed support from May and September of this year, so we just have to wait until then.

Now, I wonder what’s going in with LEGO Idea Voltron… can’t wait to see the final design on that set.

LEGO Announces “Build Your LEGO Ideas Logo” Contest.

Back in 2008, The LEGO Group and Cuusoo, a Japanese website, entered into a collaboration that opened a beta website. There, aspiring LEGO modelers can submit their MOCs in the hope that online fan support and LEGO staff reviews can see their work become a commercially available set.

If it did, the creator even gets a 1% royalty payment. The site was known as LEGO Cuusoo until 2014, when it was transferred onto the Chaordix online platform and got its present name: LEGO Ideas.

Since then, a number of ideas have been submitted to the site; 21 have been announced to be official and 19 of these have been released commercially. As LEGO Ideas gets ready to celebrate its first decade, they are holding a contest: Build Your LEGO Ideas Logo. As plainly stated, contestants need to create a new logo for LEGO Ideas, the medium being actual LEGO bricks, LEGO Digital Designer (LDD), or any LEGO CAD software.

The lucky winner who gets his new logo picked will receive the crème de la crème of the most popular LEGO Ideas sets released throughout the years. These are but a sampler:

5 LEGO Sets Named as Finalists for 2018’s Toy of the Year Awards.

It has been customary for the Toy Industry Association Inc. to recognize certain toy manufacturers for their outstanding contribution to the toy industry, and LEGO is one of the industry leaders that have a legacy of being recognized time and again as a Toy of the Year (TOTY) awardee. Last year, we saw LEGO bagging not just one, but two awards with the beautiful and mechanically impressive LEGO Friends and Amusement Park Roller Coaster (41130) earning the title of Construction Toy of the Year Award, while the grand LEGO Disney Castle (71040) received the Specialty Toy of the Year.

As it seems, it looks like LEGO has earned a greater chance of bagging the same title again. Earlier this week, online voting for this year’s TOTY has officially begun, and LEGO once more dominated the nominees’ list with five sets under various categories. Nominated for Collectible of the Year, we have the LEGO Batman Movie Collectible Minifigures (71017). For Construction Toy of the Year it is everybody’s favorite droid in brick form, LEGO Star Wars BB-8 (75187) and Captain Salazar’s dreaded ghost ship, the LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean Silent Mary (71042) that has made it to the cut of being qualified as nominees. The still elusive, and hard-to-find, LEGO Star Wars UCS Millennium Falcon (75192) also made it as a nominee for Specialty Toy of the Year, and the LEGO Boost Creative Toolbox (17101) was named as a candidate for Tech Toy of the Year.

It should be noted that a LEGO-compatible product also made it to the roster of TOTY finalists with the Mayka Toy Block Tape by Zulu. The concept behind a LEGO-tape is relatively new and has recently caught the fancy of builders both young and old.

The voting process officially began last November 3, and will end on January 5, 2018. The voting will include not just Association members, retailers, and journalists, but also the consumers. The winners will be announced in a formal presentation ceremony on February 16, 2018. You may refer to this link for the complete set of guidelines on how the Toy of the Year finalists were selected. Consumer voting is on-going, and if you wish to show your support for these LEGO sets, then head over to the voting page for the Toy of the Year Awards.
