LEGO Star Wars SDCC 2018 Exclusive: The Millennium Falcon Cockpit (75512)

LEGO has finally lifted the lid off its much awaited San Diego Comic Con 2018 exclusive. Announced via LEGO’s Facebook page, the LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon Cockpit (75512) comes in at 203 pieces and features a cut-out portion of the Falcon’s cockpit, with the minifigure versions of Han Solo and Chewbacca on board.

75512 1

From the looks of it, it seems that this year’s LEGO SDCC exclusive does not contain any notable printed parts – the cockpit itself is relatively easy to build using any existing parts that you may have, or you may easily order them via Bricklink. Even the Han and Chewie minifigs are not that all exclusive to this set since they are exact same copies of the ones found in the Kessel Run Millennium Falcon (75212). However, what collectors will probably watch out for is the uniquely designed VHS-styled packaging of the set.

75512 2

It is not clear yet if the Millennium Falcon Cockpit (75512) will be available as a special purchase or via lottery, like what LEGO previously does with its exclusive minifigures. We are also still on the lookout on the new sets that LEGO will opt to reveal anytime soon such as the long overdue LEGO Ideas Voltron (21311) which was earlier reported to be released in South Korea in August.

Stay tuned!

LEGO Test-Runs Its First Customized Minifigure Printing Service

After the success of its first LEGO Mosaic Maker, especially after arriving in the US, it seem that LEGO is once again pushing the boundaries of creative customization. The LEGO Store in Copenhagen, Denmark has just unveiled the company’s very first LEGO Minifigure Factory that allows users to have custom printed minifigs right out of the store. This months-long project was the brainchild of inventor and designer Jens Hjorth who finally shared this exciting milestone on his Facebook account.

The LEGO Minifigure Factory is still in its trial stages and is expected to be available in Copenhagen’s LEGO Store only for a test-run beginning today until tomorrow. The custom minifig printing machine allows users to choose and add predetermined prints on a white minifigure torso. As of the moment, the selections are limited since full-customization may be a bit tricky due to copyright issues that may ensue. However, the potential for such an in-store service is very exciting, and allow users to add some text and basic, simple designs of their own.

The machine itself is user friendly, and quite efficient allowing a good number of minifigs to be printed at any given time. LEGO has not released any official word or statement about the Minifigure Factory, and we still have to see if this service will be available in the US. For now, the price point for each custom printed minifigure is around $5 considering the current conversion rate. I just hope that similar to the LEGO Mosaic Maker, LEGO fans around the world will eventually have their try on the LEGO Minifigure Factory. With is relatively low price point and cool customizations, I’m pretty sure that the Minifigure Factory will be a hit to all LEGO fans as well.

Thanks again to Jens Hjorth for sharing this piece of great news.

2018’s Exclusive LEGO Inside Tour Ferguson Tractor (4000025) Revealed

This year’s LEGO Inside Tour has already concluded its first three runs, with two more slated on September 12 to 14, and 19 to 21. The LEGO Inside Tour is an annual event that provides participating fans with a unique look at the inner workings of the LEGO group, and how a LEGO set is made – from its design, production and distribution, until it reaches store shelves.

To make each LEGO Inside Tour truly memorable, it has been customary for LEGO to giveaway an exclusive LEGO Inside Tour set for every registered participant. These sets are considered ultra rare in a sense that each one of them is specifically numbered – there are only around 80 to 100 box sets released in circulation every year for each particular set. Now that the embargo has been lifted on the reveal of these sets (for the benefit of those registered participants who are still slated to join), we can now take a look at this year’s exclusive LEGO Inside Tour The Ferguson Tractor (4000025) set. Check out the images below, courtesy of Zusammengebaut.

4000025 3

4000025 2

The Ferguson Tractor (4000025) set is based on one of the iconic wooden toys that LEGO made during its early years as a toy company, alongside its wooden duck, boat, vehicles and other artifacts. It even earned a spot on the Tree of Creativity inside the LEGO House, forever setting it as one of toys that the LEGO Group is built upon.

4000025 1

In terms of its role and legacy in the life of LEGO as a company, I say that having a brick-built version of the Ferguson Tractor is a pretty good choice of a set. However, in terms of build and design, and coming in at 450 elements, mostly made up of gray colors, I somehow feel that the set’s design could have been better. Last year’s Tree of Creativity (4000024) were packaged in at 1,008 pieces, while 2016’s LEGO Inside Tour set, the LEGO Truck Show (4000022), were offered at 816 pieces.  In my opinion, 2017’s and 2016’s LIT exclusive sets are perhaps the best sets that the LEGO Inside Tour offered as of to date. I love the choice of colors for these sets, and the thoughtful design process that went through them.

If you wish to know more about the LEGO Inside Tour Ferguson Tractor (4000025), Zusammengebaut has an excellent review of this set together with more images of its construction.  So what do you think of this year’s LIT exclusive set? Are you impressed? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Showcasing The Ultimate LEGO Creator Expert Roller Coaster (10261) Ride

One particular spot for my checklist of LEGO must-haves for this year definitely goes to the LEGO Creator Expert Roller Coaster (10261). Since the introduction of LEGO’s new track elements included from last year’s LEGO Batman Movie Joker Manor (70922), clamor for a true LEGO roller coaster set has been stronger than ever. With the arrival of the Roller Coaster (10261), and with LEGO even throwing in a newer, optional power function to go along with it, everything seems to be all too perfect.

10261 1

However, for Dutch LEGO enthusiast 2T Toys, the search for the ultimate LEGO roller coaster isn’t over yet. Raising the bar even higher, they decided not just to build a single LEGO Creator Expert Roller Coaster (10261) set, but combining all three – yes, three separate sets – into one monster brick-built ride. The result was simply mesmerizing. Watch this.

A quick Google Translate tells us that this ultimate LEGO Roller Coaster ride fares at 100 cm. in length, 55 cm. wide, and 1.5 m. tall. And in minifigure scale, it’s just one cool, extreme ride. Other than the awesome loop which is the central attraction of this MOC, the sheer amount of power available from the new power function motor is also impressive in itself. It goes to show that it is capable of bringing the coasters even up to the height of 1.5 meters. If only 2T Toys can bring the camera to capture the entire moment from when the coaster leaves the platform, gradually goes for the drop, towards the loop, and then back to the station. Needless to say, it is still a sight to behold.

The LEGO Creator Expert Roller Coaster (10261) is now available in-store and online at shop.LEGO.com.

LEGO Store July 2018 Calendar Now Up – Teases on Two Exciting VIP Exclusives

LEGO has rolled out its store calendar for July and it looks like we’re about to have an awesome summer ahead. Other than the usual freebies and gift-with-purchase items for this month, LEGO is also getting ready for other big events lined up for July such as the annual San Diego Comic Con. And rumor has it that next month’s VIP exclusives will saw the arrival of one of the most carefully guarded sets that AFOLs are so eagerly waiting for in a very a long time (myself included). Let’s take a quick look of what the LEGO Store July 2018 Calendar has to offer. You can also find a PDF version of this right here.

June 30 to July 8 – Free exclusive LEGO Beach Tote bag with a purchase of $199 or more. I can’t say that I’m thrilled with this freebie, at such a high price point as a gift-with-purchase item. $200 is too much to get a bag such as this, but nevertheless, I guess it doesn’t matter if you’re eyeing on larger sets such as the LEGO Technic Bugatti Chiron (42083) or the LEGO Creator Expert Roller Coaster (10261).

July 9 to 15 – Free Party Banana Minifigure with a purchase of $35 or more. This one is a more decent offer, with a reasonable price point attached to it. Similar to previous GWPs such as this year’s Easter Bunny Hut (5005249) and 2017’s Iconic Cave (5004936), the Party Banana (5005250) is a mascot-themed minifig that comes in a clamshell box, a boom box accessory and an all new banana guy printing.

July 1 to 31 – LEGO VIPs earn Double Points on certain LEGO Creator sets. These sets are the most recent Sunshine Surfer Van (31079) and the Modular Winter Vacation (31080), both offered at $34.99. Promoting these sets fits practically well with LEGO’s theme for the month of July.

July 10 to 11 – VIP Monthly Mini Build is a BBQ stand. LEGO VIP members should register at shop.LEGO.com/Minibuild-registration beginning June 15 to qualify for this monthly mini build.

July 18 to 31 and July 23 to 31 – VIPs get Early Access to a new exclusive LEGO set during these dates, respectively. Rumors are rife among LEGO fan forums that we are about to see the release of the much-awaited, and long overdue LEGO Ideas Voltron (21311) set. Speculations point out to the possibility that LEGO might take the opportunity at San Diego Comic Con to reveal the towering, and impressively designed LEGO Ideas Voltron set. A recent news outlet from Korea also points out that set 21311 will be available worldwide on August 1. This is truly an exciting month.

July 26 – Dream It, Build It, Keep It. – Come to any LEGO Brand Store during this date to receive one of four different mystery boxes of elements. Based on the rather grainy image of the box art, it looks like that this will be a kind of promotional gift for participating on this in-store event. Bear in mind that this is intended for children ages 5 to 14 and pre-registration is required starting July 1.

LEGO DC Super-Villains Teaser Trailer Released

Following the cryptic, and troublesome graffiti left over on social media last week by dubious, LEGO characters, LEGO has just released a teaser trailer that officially announces the arrival of the LEGO DC Super-Villains video game. True to form, the teaser trailer underscores the chaotic rampage caused by villainous characters in the heart of Metropolis, irreverently defacing even the statue of the Man of Steel himself. At the same time, the mysterious WB Games website also updated its landing page by including the video of the said teaser trailer.

The teaser trailer promises a full reveal tomorrow, May 30th, so we hope to know more about this chaotic excitement by then. As we earlier reported, the said LEGO DC Super-Villains video is also rumored to come with an exclusive LEGO Lex Luthor minifigure. The said minifigure has been listed over at eBay for quite some time, and seeing this in person at our local LEGO fan convention – PhLUG’s ABrickadabra 2018 – confirms the authenticity of this minifigure. I’ll talk more about this, and my recent experience with this grandest LEGO fan convention here in the Philippines, in my next post.

For now, we will wait and see what manner of chaos and commotion this latest LEGO and WB Games will have to offer. Stay tuned!

New LEGO Billund Airport (40199) Set Spotted

Back in 2014, LEGO released a souvenir set that celebrates one of the notable places in the heart of Billund, Denmark. The LEGO Billund Airport (4000016), following the style design of the LEGO Architecture line, was exclusively sold back then at the LEGO Store located inside the airport. Only 10,000 sets were made at that time and even after 4 years since it was introduced, it remained available inside the LEGO store partly because of its relatively higher price as compared to other sets. Nonetheless, like any limited-edition set, its exclusivity was certainly attractive to collectors in spite of the higher tag price.

4000016 1 1

However, it looks like LEGO has now replaced this set with a new and revised one, with minor differences that is not easily recognizable at first glance. Brickset reports that the LEGO Billund Airport (40199) was recently spotted in the said LEGO Store inside the airport which basically replaced its older 2014 predecessor. Just to be clear, the LEGO Store inside the Billund Airport is not accessible to the public, unless you’re flying in and will pass through the passport control area.

40199 1 1

A Brickset reader also mentions that the LEGO Store maintains a sort of ‘anti-scalping’ policy where in the cost of the LEGO Billund Airport (40199) set increases to up to 899DKK each if a customer will opt to buy 4 or more sets. This is a welcomed move, and I wish other LEGO Stores will also follow the same practice with other exclusive, or limited-run sets.

As I said, there is not much of a difference between the two sets except for some minor, aesthetic details. Try to see if you can spot them, and let us know in the comments below.

Exclusive LEGO Architecture Set Sold at Billund Airport Now Updated from 4000016 to 40199

There’s no arguing at all that Billund in Denmark is LEGO’s very own corporate city-state of sorts, being the site of their HQ and all that. The first LEGOLAND Park was built here. Its own airport, now the second-largest in Denmark after Copenhagen, was built and initially operated by them.

Since 2014, the LEGO Store in Billund Airport’s departure hall offered for outgoing passengers a sweet souvenir: a LEGO Architecture set of their main building, numbered 4000016. It was a basic-build model structure with plant-pieces and rudimentary brick aircraft, but it was a rare exclusive worth picking up by collectors.

Some four years later however, there’s been a slight change. LEGO news resource Brickset has noted that the souvenir selection at Billund Airport has a new special-edition Architecture set. Or rather, it’s a new old set: Billund Airport, slightly altered and with a new number – 40199 – available only there.

40199 1

Thanks to photos from Brickset, we’ve got an idea of the amount of alterations that have been done on the LEGO Architecture Billund Airport set from version 4000016 to 40199. The sloping yellow structure on one side in the old one is gone. A “smokestack” is missing too on one end.

4000016 1

Website chatter on the new LEGO Architecture 40199 is that the flower build elements have slightly changed too, though we can’t seem to tell the difference from the photos. In conclusion, this souvenir set on Billund Airport’s departure hall LEGO Store is only cosmetically changed at best.

Dedicated collectors may go for it, and the original 4000016 will become a rarity (with jacked-up resale prices online possibly). Anybody who’s gone to Billund and are on their way back out might consider dropping by the store to have a look at the 40199 set, to see if it catches their fancy.

New LEGO Star Wars Collectible Minifigures: Kessel Mine Worker (40299) and Han Solo Mudtrooper (40300) Surfaced

This piece of news have been floating around for quite some time, but I’m a bit surprised that it has not been receiving much attention as compared to other LEGO Star Wars collectible minifigs before, such as from The Last Jedi’s DJ (40298) minifigure, and Rogue One’s Scarif Stormtrooper (40176) and R3-M2 (40268).

Thanks to a tip from Hoth Bricks, we now know what will be the next LEGO Star Wars collectible minifigs from the Han Solo spin-off. And similar to Rogue One, we have two minifigures lined up as the next promotional polybags: the LEGO Star Wars Solo Kessel Mine Worker (40299) and Han Solo Mudtrooper (40300).

lego star wars 40299 kessel mine worker

lego starwars 40300 han solo mudtrooper

The above images of these polybags were spotted over at Bricklink, with sellers located somewhere in Europe. However, what is puzzling about these polybags and those that came before them, was that they were previously Toys R Us exclusives when they were first offered as promotional freebies. Now considering TRU’s eventual demise, we’re not quite sure on how LEGO will distribute them later on. This situation echoes the same concern of the recently rumored Toys R Us 2018 Bricktober minifigures that Brian recently reported on, which includes a highly wanted collection of never-before-seen Infinity War and Harry Potter figures.

In any case, we’re still hopeful that LEGO will find a way for these collectible LEGO Star Wars minifigures to hit the market, and we may even have the Kessel Mine Worker and Han Solo in Mudtrooper uniform available in some LEGO stores, just like what happened with the LEGO Star Wars DJ (40298) minifigure. I guess for now, we just have to wait.
