LEGO-Tencent Partnership Extends for Additional Two Years

Earlier today, the LEGO Group has announced a renewed partnership with China’s and the world’s biggest game company. In a recent press release, this renewed LEGO-Tencent partnership extends the Memorandum of Understanding with the two companies, “further strengthening and expanding their strategic partnership in digital play experience for Chinese children”.

If you recall, LEGO and Tencent first entered into this working partnership back in 2018 to empower Chinese children to be prepared for a mostly digital future. This partnership saw the birth of the LEGO Video Zone with more than 800 LEGO-themed videos released in Tencent’s video channels, consequently being awarded with the distinction of being one of the top-10 most-viewed toy-branded video platforms in Tencent.

LEGO-Tencent Partnership
LEGO and Tencent’s LEGO Video Zone

Last year also saw the launch of Tencent’s LEGO Cube Mobile Game – a sandbox video game where kids can explore vast, seemingly never-ending lands made of LEGO bricks populated by LEGO minifigure characters. Aside from being an open-ended play experience, it also provided Chinese children with socialization opportunities with other children in a safe and friendly environment while teaching them the rudiments of 3D design, construction, and coding.

For the next two years, LEGO and Tencent will continue to work together to bring more high-quality digital content, with particular emphasis and investment in creating a more robust digital social community akin to LEGO Life. Think of it as China’s version of LEGO Life that is not just for children but also for teenagers and younger LEGO fans as well. Additionally, the two child-centered companies will continue to develop software applications that will further fuse both physical and digital play in new ways that we haven’t seen before. As you may know already, LEGO has already placed considerable investment in adding an augmented reality component on its LEGO sets particularly with the introduction of the LEGO Hidden Side theme. Lastly, helping children learn the rudiments of robotics is still very much at the heart of the LEGO education system with the introduction of the LEGO Boost theme.

Personally, I’m excited to see what is in the works between LEGO and Tencent for the next two years. LEGO has continually pushed the boundaries of conventional play ever since it came out with its very first wooden toy back in the early days of the company. Any new technology that will enhance the LEGO play experience will be something that I will keep an eye on.

So what do you think of this renewed LEGO-Tencent partnership? What new play technologies do you think we will see in the next couple of years? Let me know what you think in the comments below.

LEGO Ideas Mary Poppins, Cherry Tree Lane Product Idea Is Our First 10K Support Achiever for 2020

LEGO Ideas has tagged its First 2020 Review Stage qualifier that achieved 10K fan support in Disneybrick55’s LEGO Ideas Mary Poppins Cherry Tree Lane. After officially opening its Third 2019 Review Stage with 12 qualifying would-be LEGO Ideas sets, Disneybrick55’s original creation has now set the stage for the next wave of qualifying sets.

Based on the original 1964 film, this brick rendition of Cherry Tree Lane replicates how the set may have looked like during this time. As you can see from the images, the main and central portion of the build consists of the Bank family residence, while the adjacent houses are empty similar to the props used in the classic film.

This original LEGO Ideas Mary Poppins project proposal also features 8 minifigures: Mary Poppins, Bert, George Banks, Winifred Banks, Jane Banks, Michael Banks, Admiral Boom, and Mr. Dawes Jr.

Here’s a brief word from Disneybrick55 about his/her product idea.

Mary Poppins, Cherry Tree Lane
Discover the magic universe of Mary Poppins with this new project based on the 1964 original movie.
So this project contains the main part of Cherry tree lane avenue with the house of  Banks’s family which includes a lot of details of the movie like the bedroom of children, the living room and stairs.
Other buildings are actually fake buildings with only the main side like in the movie set.
So I put 8 minifigures: Mary Poppins, Bert, George Banks, Winifred Banks, Jane Banks, Michael Banks, Admiral Boom, and Mr. Dawes Jr.
Do not hesitate to go on my Facebook page to see many creations based on Disney universe.

There’s a lot going on in LEGO Ideas recently. We’re just waiting for the official announcement of the LEGO Ideas International Space Station (21321) anytime soon while being excited about how the final versions of the LEGO Ideas Playable Piano, 123 Sesame Street, and The Pirate Bay will eventually look like.  I’m super hyped for Ivan Guerrero’s LEGO Ideas 123 Sesame Street, being a fan of the classic children’s show when I was a kid. Simply put, 2020 is just a great year to be a LEGO fan.

LEGO The United Trinity (6322264)

According to a flyer shared via Instagram by AFOL Dylan Chow, the LEGO The United Trinity (6322264) is available at the LEGO brand store in China as an early VIP member gift for those who will get the Old Trafford-Manchester United (10272). This freebie features the renowned Manchester United players – George Best (#10), Denis Law (#10), and Sir Robert “Bobby: Charlton (#9) –  whose statues are boldly displayed near the entrance of the stadium.

Their minifig counterparts have the standard red jersey that the team has been known for. I just hope that LEGO added some bit of exclusivity on these prized minifigs by having the Manchester United logo printed in front of their torsos aside from their jersey numbers at the back.

It is not exactly clear if this gift-with-purchase set will only be available to LEGO fans in China but my best guess is that it will also be available elsewhere especially in Europe where majority of the Manchester United fans are located. In fact, Stonewars have also reported that this promotional exclusive will also be offered in Germany. I’ll keep you posted once more info comes in, so be sure to subscribe to our blog and turn on your web notifications.

The LEGO Creator Expert Old Trafford-Manchester (10272) comes in at 3,898 pieces and is expected to retail for $299.99. It is available for early LEGO VIP access beginning January 16, and to the rest of the world on February 1, 2020.

Manchester United’s Director of Partnerships, Sean Jefferson comments:
“Our Old Trafford stadium is as iconic as Manchester United itself and we are proud to be able to bring it to life in LEGO form. I think everyone has played with LEGO bricks at some point in their life, however, it’s still amazing to see the level of detail the LEGO designers have managed to recreate in this piece. We are sure it will be hugely popular amongst Manchester United and LEGO fans alike.”

Building this set is sure to be a nostalgic experience for Manchester United fans while also providing a rewarding building experience for LEGO fans. The building instructions include information on the stadium and its rich heritage and history as well as the designers that have brought the set to life.

The 110-year-old stadium provided us with so many important locations, features and stories to tell as we constructed this model. We are excited for our fans to be able to experience all of that history and attention to detail as they construct and proudly display this iconic stadium.” – Michael Psiaki, LEGO Design Master.

First Look at the LEGO Creator Expert Old Trafford-Manchester United (10272)

It looks like we’ll be seeing this year’s first LEGO Creator Expert set very soon. If you’re keeping tabs with the news going through the leaking faucet, then you’ll probably recall that there were rumors last November of a LEGO and Manchester United partnership. The details were a bit sketchy though, with no particular announcement given on what kind of LEGO products will be offered that will make Manchester United fans surely happen. Personally, I first thought that this latest offering might include another CMF series similar to what LEGO did with the LEGO German National Football DFB Collectible Minifigures (71014) series released back in 2016. However, as it turned out, it was larger and grander than what I expected. Thanks to Promobricks, we now have our first look at the LEGO Creator Expert Old Trafford-Manchester United (10272).

Truth be told, the following images are all-around social media right now, with an official press release expected anytime soon, so I guess the cat is out of the bag already. For fans of Europe’s leading football team, the LEGO Creator Expert Old Trafford-Manchester United (10272) is an exquisite display set to show your pride for the team. Coming in at 3,898 pieces, the set recreates the famous Old Trafford stadium complete with all the details such as the Sir Alex Ferguson and Bobby Charlton Stands. It’s a faithful brick rendition of the second-largest football stadium in the UK, together with its impressive seats and football field. In case you’re not familiar with the Old Trafford Stadium, then you may want to see this nifty video courtesy of travel vlogger Renata Pereira.

Based on these first images, it seems that the set itself will consist of four modules (representing the stands) that can be rearranged to allow a better view of the football field inside. The LEGO Creator Old Trafford-Manchester United (10272) is expected to retail for 269.99 Euros.

Be sure to stay tuned for more updates, with more news to be released about this set anytime soon.

First Look at the LEGO Ideas International Space Station (21321)

If you recall back in May of last year, LEGO Ideas launched a particular contest that celebrates its 10th year anniversary as a LEGO theme. The LEGO Ideas 10th Year Anniversary Fan Vote sought to bring together some of the best unapproved LEGO Ideas projects that reached 10K fan support. Fans of these projects were given a chance once more to show their love and support for these would-be sets, for a chance to become the first official LEGO Ideas set to be launched in 2020. With a total of 46% fan votes and after almost 7 months of waiting, the LEGO Ideas International Space Station (21321) is now on its way to a LEGO Store near you.

Now thanks to Promobricks, we now have our first look at this brick-built version of the Internatioanl Space Station. The announcement came via a store flyer promoting an in-store signing event together with the set’s fan designer  Christoph Ruge (aka XCLD over at LEGO Ideas platform). The signing event will be held at the LEGO Store in Nuremberg, Germany. Check out the flyer below.

LEGO Ideas International Space Station (21321)

According to Promobricks, the LEGO Ideas International Space Station (21321) will retail for 69.99 Euros and will be available on January 31st. There’s no confirmation yet if the release date of this first 2020 LEGO Ideas set will be the same for the rest of the world. But I guess an official announcement from LEGO is in order pretty soon.

Though there is no word yet regarding the number of pieces for this set, the price range may suggest that it may approximately consist of 900 to 1,000 pieces, with tons of solar panel tile pieces. It’s hard to figure out based on the flyer if these are printed pieces, but its equally baffling if these will turn out to be stickers. The horror of placing them on such a number of pieces! It may be wishful thinking on my part considering that LEGO still has to release an official printed tile piece to act as solar panels, but let’s wait and see. Traditionally, LEGO has only issued stickers for other related sets, especially prominent with the LEGO City Space sets that were released last year. I can just imagine the difficulty of aligning the stickers on these plate and flag pieces if they eventually turn out to be as such.

I also assume the LEGO Ideas International Space Station (21321) will also come with a buildable stand for display purposes. And it will certainly look great beside LEGO City Space sets such as the Deep Space Rocket and Launch Control (60228) and Satellite Service Station (60224).

Be sure to stay tuned for more updates! Thanks also to Instagram user PicsLed for sharing this image.
