LEGO Ideas Announces Another Contest: The Greatest “Star Wars” Battles Built by You

Now surely, none of us have forgotten that 2019 is the 20th anniversary of the LEGO Star Wars product line. We’ve already covered the anniversary-edition sets for this year, but there’s more LEGO has in store. For instance, mere days after announcing a LEGO Ideas contest for their upcoming mobile game app, there’s now one for LEGO Star Wars too.

The theme for this LEGO Ideas contest is one of the most vital cinematic elements of the “Star Wars” franchise: big space-opera battles. From the ground-pounding encounters at Kasshyk, Hoth’s Echo Base and Endor, to the space dogfights of Coruscant and Yavin IV, all are celebrated in this building competition.

Interested contestants need only to recreate their favorite battle scene from any “Star Wars” film or TV show, whether in real LEGO bricks or through computer applications like LEGO Digital Designer. They must send their work, documented in only five images, to the LEGO Ideas contest page before May 3.

Lottery for Star Wars Celebration Exclusive Merch, Including Vader Bust (75227) Now Underway

Last week to the day, we announced how an exclusive LEGO set will be appearing at Star Wars Celebration Chicago. Big fans of the franchise will certainly adore a LEGO bust of Darth Vader (75227). But getting one involves chance because it and other merchandise must be won by lottery.

Seeing how “Star Wars” exclusive stuff during events can disappear like they just went into hyperspace, a lottery is sensible. Until the deadline of April 3 at 11:59 PM (CT), Star Wars Celebration attendees can enter the Exhibitor Exclusive Lottery through the event’s official page.

The important information that would-be participants of the lottery need is either the email they used to buy their Star Wars Celebration Chicago badges, or their badge purchase confirmation number. They must then enter the virtual line for the lottery where they can choose which item they want as soon as their turn comes up.

75227_Box1_v39

If a lottery item is won [hopefully it’s the LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Bust (75227)] then a confirmation and QR code is sent to the winner. These codes can be redeemed only once, and can be downloaded from either the website or the upcoming Star Wars Celebration mobile app.

LEGO Star Wars Vader Bust (75227) is worth $39.99, and outside of Star Wars Celebration Chicago will only be available on Target’s REDCard program. Target will release their limited-quantity Vader Busts on April 11, at the same time that the Star Wars Celebration kicks off.

Target-Exclusive LEGO Movie 2 Blu-ray Combo Comes with Free Tie-In Polybag (30460)

Just this week we got LEGO and Warner Bros. announcing the home media release dates for The LEGO Movie 2. It didn’t quite catch on in the cinema, but maybe more people will purchase it for home viewing. Digital format arrives next month while the disc versions won’t be until May. Regarding the physical-copy release, while there’re the expected 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD versions, some retailers like Target seems to offer more. They have their own LEGO Movie 2 Blu-ray Combo Pack which packs a Blu-ray, DVD, and digital versions of the animated sequel all rolled into one. As expected, it also has a LEGO freebie to hopefully sweeten the deal.

But if you’re anticipating something not so regularly seen from LEGO, like a new minifigure, then better lower your expectations. That is, unless you haven’t gotten the LEGO Movie 2 – Rex’s Plantimal Ambush (30460) polybag yet. But that’s only if you haven’t bought at least $40 worth of LEGO products online from shop.LEGO.com last month.

nuBmJkL9pMXU9L1FivvAWTlak7VGcZexEEzZx1L55H0.jpg

Still, if you haven’t gotten anything off LEGO Shop@Home in February and are willing to wait, pre-ordering this Combo Pack at Target is a good idea. This Target offering for The LEGO Movie 2 Blu-ray Combo is worth $27.99 (Blu-ray, DVD, & digital), including the Plantimal Ambush (30460) polybag, and will be available starting May 7.

The LEGO movie 2: The Second Part premiered February 8 and has since earned $173.5 million combined on both North American and international box offices. While still positively reviewed, the film failed to replicate the success of its 2014 predecessor, a phenomenon attributed by Warner Animation Group to franchise fatigue.

An Early Look at the LEGO Marvel Superheroes Spider-Man: Far from Home Sets

It’s a general rule of thumb that when a movie that LEGO has rights to produce merchandise of is coming up, we can expect the tie-in sets to arrive well before the actual premiere date. Not only does it help with promotion, the sets can tantalize LEGO fans with spoilers regarding the film’s possible plot. Case in point, this July we’re up to see Spider-Man: Far From Home, the first segment of the new “Phase 4” of the MCU franchise. From trailers, Marvel Comics readers might already have a handle on the supporting cast and villains. Now, casual MCU fans will get the low-down too. Actually, this isn’t a scheduled LEGO reveal. The official images were posted onto the Ukrainian online toy site Playzone (which seems to have been removed already as of this posting). In a well-worn story, the items couldn’t be taken down fast enough and the photos were saved by for all to see. So MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD: here’s an early look at the set images of the LEGO Marvel Superheroes Spider-Man: Far From Home sets grabbed by French LEGO news source Brick Heroes.

Molten Man Battle (76128)

76128 4

As can be seen from its number, the LEGO Marvel Superheroes Spider-Man: Far From Home Molten Man Battle (76128) goes right after the Captain Marvel tie-in, Skrull Attack (76127). It consists of 294 pieces, expected to retail for $30 USD. Minifigures of Spider-Man (in black, Spider-Man Noir styled costume), Mysterio (with energy hands) and NPC firefighter (with fire extinguisher accessory).

Hydro-Man Attack (76129)

76129 8

The LEGO Marvel Superheroes Spider-Man: Far From Home Hydro-Man Attack (76129) contains 471 pieces, and includes a brick-built Venice bridge setting and Hydro-Man’s watery platform. Minifigures include: Peter Parker (with web-props), Michelle “MJ” Jones (with gondola and pole), Mysterio and Hydro-Man.

Stark Jet and Drone Attack (76130)

lego 76130 stark jet and the drone attack 13 1

The LEGO Marvel Superheroes Stark Jet and Drone Attack (76130) includes 504 pieces to build the Stark Jet and two attack drones (all with stud shooters). Jet has room for a pilot and two passengers, plus a hidden compartment with chemical canisters that open to store or drop like bombs. Minifigures of Spider-Man (with web-line), Nick Fury (with gun accessory), Happy Hogan and Mysterio (with energy hands).

Its kind of interesting to see how close these LEGO Marvel Superheroes Spider-Man: Far From Home sets are to our initial predictions when the first trailer dropped last January. It only proves further how LEGO Superheroes sets are mostly based on the initial trailers that are usually released by Disney and Marvel. It also looks like that three sets are enough for this subtheme, but we’ll probably know only with an official LEGO preview whether these are all the Far From Home tie-ins or if there will be more. We have no confirmed release date yet, but we may well assume that these will be available sometime in June before Spider-Man: Far From Home premieres in theaters July 5, 2019.

Home Media Release Dates for “LEGO Movie 2” Announced

It’s been over a month since the premiere of “The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part.” Compared to its original film from 2014, the sequel had been a stark underperformer throughout its theatrical run. Perhaps the onslaught of movie spinoffs in the intervening years resulted in franchise fatigue for LEGO and Warner Bros’ key audiences.

In any case, there’s not much that can be done to increase the $171 million worldwide box office of “LEGO Movie 2.” The best course now is to transition towards home media. That means releasing in the two general formats of “digital” and “physical disc.”

Warner Bros. Pictures has pegged April 16 for the release of the digital version of “LEGO Movie 2.” This can be preordered right now on both iTunes and Google Play, with a guaranteed arrival on release day. In the meantime, the physical home media versions of the film (4K UHD, Blu-Ray and DVD) will release two months onward, May 7th.

“The LEGO Movie 2” reunites most of the star-studded 2014 cast such as Chris Pratt (reprising main character Emmet and voicing a new character at the same time), Elizabeth Banks and Will Arnett, plus newcomers Tiffany Haddish and Stephanie Beatriz. It involves Emmet going on a trip to save his friends who were abducted by the alien Duplons from the Systar System, before a mysterious cataclysmic event can take place.

The 4K UHD and Blu-Ray home versions of “LEGO Movie 2” have these bonus features:

  1. Everything is Awesome Sing-along
  2. Filmmakers’ Commentary
  3. They Come in Pieces: Assembling “The LEGO Movie 2” – voice cast featurette
  4. Emmet’s Holiday Party: A LEGO Movie Short
  5. LEGO Sets in Action“LEGO Movie 2” tie-in sets being animated
  6. LEGO Designers – interview with the designers of the movie tie-in sets
  7. Outtakes & Deleted Scenes
  8. Super Cool Music Video (with Beck, featuring Robyn and The Lonely Island)
  9. Promotion Spots

New “LEGO Movie” Airline Safety Video for Turkish Airlines Voted Top PR Campaign for February 2019

In August last year, LEGO and Warner Bros. partnered with Turkish Airlines to hit two targets with a single shot. The last one needed an invigorating airline safety video for their passenger planes; the former two wanted an early promotion to the now-long premiered “LEGO Movie 2.” The result of that collaboration was comedy gold.

Starkly contrasting the struggle of “The LEGO Movie 2” itself on the box office, the film’s LEGO set tie-ins and other promotional extras fared better. Turkish Airlines decided a second run was well earned and thus got WB and LEGO to make a follow-up airline safety video with added characters and extras from the sequel.

As you can see, the new video includes Queen Watevra, Sweet Mayhem, Rex Dangervest and even first-film characters who didn’t figure much in the original production like Metalbeard and Benny. It also features several location changes across major international cities reached by Turkish Airlines, all rendered in crisp CGI LEGO. Oh, and LEGO Batman is the director. Absolute hilarity ensues.

The new LEGO Turkish Airlines safety video was released online just last week, and already public relations analysts are gaga over it. PR Week has listed five of their favorite recent campaigns in the industry. There’s no prize for guessing what the top PR gig was on their February list.

For their online survey with 1,202 respondents, 939 of them voted overwhelmingly for the latest LEGO Turkish Airlines video. That’s not bad, and a balm for the “LEGO Movie” franchise that, through the dismal performance of “LEGO Movie 2,” has been speculated to be concluded as a WB film franchise.

New LEGO Star Wars 20th Anniversary Edition Polybag Found – Snowspeeder (30384)

You probably haven’t forgotten, but just in case, LEGO Star Wars is 20 years old. This line of licensed-franchise LEGO products is one of their best sellers across all ages. And in celebration of two decades of popularity and success, LEGO has revealed several special anniversary edition “Star Wars” sets.

And there are even polybags coming out for the theme to in tribute to LEGO Star Wars at 20. Last month we saw a LEGO Star Wars Podracer polybag (30461) that serves as a counterpart to the full-set Anakin’s Podracer (75258), also a 20th anniversary edition. It gets a buddy from the original trilogy, though the polybag in question was found at a Target store.

Thanks to information from fellow LEGO news source Zusammengebaut, we know that this new LEGO Star Wars 20th Anniversary Edition polybag is a micro-build of the Rebel Snowspeeder (30384). Like the Podracer (30461), this has an “original” model in the Snowspeeder 20th Anniversary Edition (75259).

About the only difference between the two is that the set and polybag are colored differently from each other, and the latter product doesn’t have the extra minifigures and props. At 49 pieces, this LEGO Star Wars 20 polybag is an even easier assembly job than its Podracer brother (30461).

We’d earlier surmised that the 20th anniversary LEGO Star Wars polybags might be employed first as a gift with purchase for promotions. Having one of them conventionally available on retail means getting one is a breeze. And at $3.99 it’s also no strain on wallets. This info on the Snowspeeder poly (30484) is pretty early that no official image has yet to release for it.

Sweet Discount Sale Ongoing for LEGO Ninjago Movie Tie-in, the Destiny’s Bounty (70618) on Amazon and Wal-Mart

“The LEGO Ninjago Movie” back in 2017 wasn’t quite the smash hit as its spinoff predecessor “The LEGO Batman Movie.” How much less for “The LEGO Movie” from 2014? Still, it was a nice source to make new tie-in sets separate from the main LEGO Ninjago line. These sets still remain available to this year.

One of these LEGO Ninjago Movie sets has just been discounted very handsomely at no less than two online shopping platforms. Both Amazon and Wal-Mart have just docked 20% from the regular price of $159.99 from the Destiny’s Bounty (70618).

At $40 off, this LEGO Ninjago Movie tie-in can now be had online at these two sources for $119.99 only. It’s as awesome a bargain for a LEGO purchase as can be. The 2,295 pieces of the Destiny’s Bounty (70618) would come across as 5 cents a brick with both Wal-Mart and Amazon’s sale price.

The LEGO Ninjago Movie Destiny’s Bounty set (70618) depicts a vessel used in the film that (old spoiler alert) was used by Master Wu to save his Ninjago students from certain death, after he himself was earlier swept away to “his” demise. It’s a fairly solid LEGO ship model and a popular Ninjago Movie tie-in.

Online Prize Draw on “Fantastic Beasts” UK Website Offers LEGO Tie-In Sets and Promotional Niffler Build, to Celebrate Home Video Release

The second installment of J.K. Rowling’s “Fantastic Beasts” film series, “The Crimes of Grindelwald,” premiered worldwide in November last year. It was the 10th highest grossing film of 2018, and served to set up the Wizarding War that the original “Harry Potter” series referenced. Only in this year did it finally arrive for home media.

First, “The Crimes of Grindelwald” was made available for digital download last February. For those who prefer their media on physical copy however, the film’s Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD versions will arrive March 18 in the UK. To celebrate the occasion, Warner Bros. is partnering with LEGO to offer some nice goodies to “Fantastic Beasts” fans this week.

Back when the movie premiered in the UK, The LEGO Group helped with promotion by scattering large brick-builds of the surprisingly popular Niffler critter around London. One of these Niffler statues can soon belong to a lucky winner visiting the official “Fantastic Beasts” UK website.

This LEGO Niffler build is one of the prizes for the current “Wizarding Wednesdays” online contest. Those who enter the draw will stand a chance to win that, plus two major LEGO tie-ins released for “Crimes of Grindelwald” last year: Grindelwald’s Escape (75951) and Newt’s Case of Magic Creatures (75952).

While the Ultra HD, Blu-Ray and DVD media release for “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” is on the 18th in the UK, it’ll be coming earlier for the US, next week at March 12.

Official Images Released for All “Avengers: Endgame” Tie-In Sets Named Thus Far

We did say it was only a matter of time. Finally, after initial reveals and unconfirmed product descriptions all cards are on the table, so to speak. LEGO has released the official images for all its tie-sets to Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame.” That includes the product boxes with all the details.

As German LEGO news source Promo Bricks discovered, the official images were first added to the relevant LEGO Marvel product listings on Amazon Germany. As can be seen below, the Reddit descriptions for 76125 and 76131 were spot on. In fact, let’s stop talking about it for now and get right on to the photos.

Now, according to the Amazon Germany listings, these LEGO Avengers tie-in sets will become available there on April 1. That likely applies to other outlets and Shop@Home too, barring a bad case of April Fools’.

Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Endgame” arrives in cinemas April 26, so the April 1 release makes sense. But first, we have “Captain Marvel” premiering Friday, and it’s got a tie-in also.
