The LEGO Catalog H1 2021 Now Up At LEGO Servers

UPDATE: It seems that the LEGO Catalog H1 2021 has been uploaded by mistake since it is no longer available to download from LEGO’s servers.

LEGO has uploaded the digital version of its LEGO Catalog H1 2021 (January to May 2021), and with it comes more LEGO sets that are expected to arrive during the 1st quarter of 2021. From the looks of it, LEGO still has plenty of surprises in store, other than what we know so far coming from its 2021 lineup of sets (e.g. those coming from its various non-licensed themes such City, Creator, Ninjago, and Friends among others).

Needless to say, the LEGO Catalog H1 2021 fills in some of the gaps that are noticeably missing in the upcoming sets that were revealed last time. Let’s take a look at some of these additional sets, all of which are slated to be available in February and March. I’ll keep you posted once these sets are listed over at LEGO Shop@Home.

LEGO Classic Sets (11006, 11007, 11012, 11013, 11014)

Next year’s latest LEGO Classic sets throws in a handful of useful pieces for any LEGO fans in general. From transparent bricks to cogs and wheels, these extra LEGO pieces will sure come in handy for your next LEGO project.

LEGO CMF Series 22

We’re still counting the weeks before LEGO CMF Series 21 (71029) is released in January, and from the looks of it, LEGO is giving us a treat in May with the reveal of its CMF Series 22. There’s no word yet on the brick street on what this next wave of collectible minifigs will be, but given LEGO’s previous CMF releases, we can expect that this is most likely to come from a licensed theme. Marvel Superheroes perhaps? Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

The Starter Course Set 2 is quite interesting and we’ll have to see how this will turn out.

75307 18+ Helmet Series: ??? (??? pieces, €69.99)

This is an exhaustive list though since we can still expect plenty of new information to come in as we approach the last quarter of this year. However, since LEGO is quite mum about these things, for now, I highly suggest that we consider all of these things for the rumors that they really are for the time being. Unless we hear LEGO’s official press release and product reveal regarding its upcoming LEGO sets, then let’s take this piece of news with a healthy amount of salt.

How the LEGO Technic Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey (42113) May Be Saved

I’m not much of a Technic fan, and I even don’t claim to be an expert on the genre. However, LEGO’s recent decision to eventually pull out the LEGO Technic Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey (42113) from the market, days before its official launch, does not sit well with fans especially when we get to hear what LEGO has to say about it and what avid Technic builders learned about the set.

Just a few days before the LEGO Technic V-22 Osprey’s launch, everything seems to be running smoothly in terms of it’s scheduled debut, with retailers getting their copies of the Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey set so that they can properly stock ahead before August 1st. However, due to a complaint by the German Peace Society regarding LEGO basing its latest Technic offering on a military vehicle. As you may know, LEGO has a longstanding policy of not producing military-inspired sets as guided by its corporate values. Eventually, LEGO decided to pull the plug on the LEGO Technic Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey (42113) just days before the building set is placed on retailers’ store shelves.

LEGO Technic Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey
The now-canceled and recalled LEGO Technic Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey (42113).

From a production and management point of view, I find this situation a bit odd. It is kind of baffling to hear how LEGO did not foresee this problematic situation involving a military-inspired set considering the many months involved in designing and producing a complex product such as this. Plus the amount of money wasted along the way.

Despite LEGO’s product recall, some retailers still went through with the sale of the LEGO Technic Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey, with some fans managing to purchase and bringing home the set. Huw from Brickset is one of those fortunate souls who were able to pick up a copy of this and he has done a thorough review of this recalled LEGO set. What we’ve learned is very interesting.

The core of the design problem of the LEGO Technic Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey (42113). Image via Reddit.

According to what Huw discovered, the LEGO Technic Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey (42113) has a major, fundamental design flaw. As I said, I’m not a Technic expert and if you want to read in detail the problematic building issues with this set, then I highly suggest that you read Huw’s article that I mentioned earlier. Needless to say, such a design flaw prevents this set to function as it intended to be. Sariel over on YouTube also did an excellent review, underscoring the issues behind the set’s design. I also recommend you take a look at this as well.

Again, here’s another case of poor quality control that leaves me scratching my head. So from both a management and design perspective, this particular LEGO Technic set has all the red warning flags to begin with. Thankfully, if you’re like Huw who managed to get a copy of this set, there’s still hope in saving this. By experimenting with some simple gears, Huw was able to fix the problem that was causing the set to malfunction, and his solution is remarkably simple. You can read about his simple fix right here. Again, this is another example of me asking, “How come the guys from the LEGO design team did not think about this?”

One couldn’t help but speculate if the real reason behind the recall of the LEGO Technic Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey is more of a PR issue or that of a design failure, or both. In the end, I feel that it is the fans that were on the losing end because of this, especially those who were looking forward to having this set. But I will not call it a complete loss either. I sincerely believe that LEGO will take all of these things into consideration with its next product development cycle to prevent another mishap like this. I am also thankful that there are dedicated LEGO fans like Huw and Sariel that are kind and creative enough to offer solutions to the LEGO community. Thanks to their efforts, this otherwise problematic Technic set is now saved from its undesirable condition and is now functional as it is supposed to be. LEGO also has its share of flaws that’s for sure, but I do hope LEGO will learn from this experience and will create the necessary steps to prevent this from happening again.

As a side note and in case you missed it, other LEGO Technic sets came out this month other than the brick-version of the Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey. For the latest roster of Technic sets available, plus the newest sets that came out coming from other themes, you might want to check on them right here.

Check Out These New LEGO 18+ Sets and More Available Now

Its August 1st, and it can only mean that more LEGO sets are now put on display at your local brand LEGO store (in case they’re now open) and over at LEGO Shop@Home. And this month, it seems that LEGO has the adult fan community in mind when it launched its impressive wave of LEGO 18+ sets, catering to the more discerning LEGO hobbyist in mind.

Since LEGO began introducing its 18+ sets branding with the LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection, the LEGO Group made it a point to offer larger, more sophisticated sets to the AFOL (Adult Fans of LEGO) community. And since then, we’ve seen a steady increase of sets representing each of LEGO’s current themes.

Just to be sure that everything is covered though, LEGO has also released other sets intended for all ages coming from its various licensed and homegrown themes. With 55 new sets offered this month (as per Brickset’s count), I’m pretty sure there is something that will catch your fancy. We have a handful of new sets coming from other LEGO themes such as Star Wars, Super Mario, Harry Potter, Technic, Friends, City, Ninjago, Hidden Side and my personal favorite, Monkie Kid. Take note that depending on your region, some of these sets might still be released on a later date.

Check out these LEGO 18+ sets now available at LEGO’s online shopping portal. And if you wish to add them to your LEGO must-have list for this month, be kind enough to click on the following affiliate links below to support our work here in The Brick Show. Read on and happy building!
