Back in 2011, LucasArts and Traveller’s Tales released its fourth LEGO Star Wars video game, of the format that players of LEGO game titles for licensed properties are familiar with. LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars was a true sequel of sorts to the first two games of the series, with the third being a compilation of its predecessors instead.
Having been released on Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360 among other systems, the title has been deemed worthy to be included in the latest wave of Games with Gold titles that are exclusive to members of Xbox Live Gold this September.
These latest Xbox Live Gold games will be available to any Gold members on their Xbox One starting September. Two of these are Xbox One games, while the other two are from the Xbox 360, including LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars. They’re playable on the Xbox One thanks to the console’s backwards compatibility.
LEGO fans with Xbox Ones and a Gold membership can download LEGO Star Wars III starting December 1 until 15. Also available with the game are Prison Architect (September 1-30), Sega Vintage Collection: Monster World (September 16-30) and Livelock (September 16 to October 15).
Gamescom 2018 is now in full swing in Germany, where LEGO and Warner Bros Interactive took the stage to share an extended gameplay video (worth 19 minutes) in showcasing some of the things to be expected in their latest video game offering, LEGO DC Super Villains. We already know that the game will feature a good deal of character customizations where players will get to take the role of Rookie – the player’s avatar that eventually evolves and upgrades as you go through the game’s overarching story. The video, which you can see below, is courtesy of IGN who is currently covering the events of Gamescom 2018 as they happen. Watch this.
The game starts with Commissioner Gordon paying the mastermind criminal extraordinaire Lex Luthor (who is now serving time in prison) in asking for help in defeating the current threat that Gotham City is facing. The player’s character simply called as Rookie, enters the game and the player is given five preset characters to choose from. Each preset character is further customizable in terms of its looks, costume, abilities, and weapons.
You can even determine the color of Rookie’s weapons using the game’s highly varied color palette. Once the player finalizes his/her selection, the game gives us a glimpse of the myriad of DC super villain characters that can be unlocked throughout the course of the game. How many characters do you think are there?
As the story progresses, Lex Luthor does a daring escape from prison with the help of her loyal assistant and secretary Mercy Graves, bringing Rookie along with him. From there on, it’s a prison break mission and Rookie must find a way to the outside world while learning and absorbing new super powers at the same time. Furthermore, it looks like the first villains to be available at the player’s disposal (other than Luthor) will be Cheetarah and Solomon Grundy as Rookie help these baddies to escape. Typical of other LEGO video games, the LEGO DC Super Villains also features tons of breaking and re-creating LEGO sets and builds to progress in the game. Players can also change to up to 3 characters in-game depending on the challenge or task at hand.
The LEGO DC Super Villains video game is now available for pre-order, with the Deluxe Edition retailing for $75. It is slated to be released on October 16, 2018 and will be available across major gaming platforms (Playstation, Xbox, Switch, and PC).
True, LEGO is quite well represented when it comes to videogames. WB Interactive and Traveller’s Tales have seen to it that LEGO gamers are never left wanting for more digital adventures similar to LEGO Incredibles and LEGO DC Super-Villains. Sometimes, even non-LEGO-themed game developers can’t help but sneak things in.
DrinkBox Studios has quite recently released Guacamelee! 2, a sequel to their 2013 action platform videogame (similar in structure to some Castlevania games by Konami). A mere day or two later, eagle-eyed gamers saw something pretty awesome in the game environment and posted it to electronic gaming news source Gamespew.
Guacamelee! chronicles the adventures of resurrected and super-powered masked luchador Juan and spirit mentor Tostada in a wacky quest through the Land of the Dead (before Disney’s Coco even). The sequel features more adventuring, and in one of the travel locations Juan stumbles into there’s a nifty LEGO Easter Egg.
While exploring the Palace of Pedro Piñata, Juan enters a room full of piñatas to smash up, plus more stuck in the background as decoration. One of these piñata is a colorful unicorn with a kitty head; yep, it’s Princess Unikitty herself! What’s she doing there anyway? Bravo, DrinkBox Studios.
It was probably just a case of LEGO fandom from some of the graphics designers, but LEGO fans may love them a little for that stunt. Fans who’re interested can check out DrinkBox Studio’s Guacamelee! 2. It’s available on Steam right now, and on preorder for the Sony PlayStation 4. The LEGO Unikitty! animated series airs on Cartoon Network.

STORY TRAILER FOR LEGO® DC SUPER-VILLAINS REVEALED
New Trailer Dives Into the Game’s Narrative, Showing Players
Why They’ll Need to Embrace their Inner Super Villain to Save the World
_________________________________________
BURBANK, Calif. – August 21, 2018 – Today, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games, The LEGO Group and DC Entertainment unveiled a NEW Story Trailer for LEGO® DC Super-Villains, showcasing how one rookie must take on evil and team up with the best of the bad, including The Joker, Harley Quinn, Lex Luthor, Deathstroke, Killer Frost, Sinestro, and countless others, to save the planet!
LEGO DC Super-Villains is the first LEGO game to put players at the center of a villain-centric adventure packed with favorite locations and characters from across the DC universe. The game will be available October 16, 2018 for PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One X®, Nintendo Switch™, and PC.
In LEGO DC Super-Villains, the Justice League has disappeared, leaving Earth’s protection to a newcomer group of heroes from a parallel universe, proclaiming themselves as the ‘Justice Syndicate’. Renowned DC Super-Villains from the ‘Legion Of Doom’ discover Earth’s newest heroes may not be the heroes they claim to be. With each player’s completely customizable Super-Villain character in command, this team of misfit lawbreakers must join forces to discover and foil the evil plans the incognito strangers have in store.
Gamescom 2018 in Germany and the Overwatch Fan Festival in Korea are all set for tomorrow, and to celebrate these events and the official launch of the LEGO Overwatch tie-in sets, the Overwatch Facebook page just gave us a teaser on how things will be with the new LEGO theme. The teaser shows several silhouettes of LEGO Overwatch minifigures, particularly that of the six playable characters of the video game. From left to right, it seems to me that we’ll have: Widowmaker, Reinhardt, Genji, Soldier 76, Mercy, and McCree.
Interestingly, other than the LEGO Overwatch minifigures, the above teaser also shows three backgrounds which may suggest that the LEGO Overwatch sets will feature any of these places as hinted in their mini movies. As of now, rumor has it that LEGO has four sets dedicated to the Overwatch theme, with set numbers 75970, 75971, 75972 and 75973 assigned to them.
Furthermore, it is also expected that a LEGO Overwatch collectible minifigure series is in order which is pretty appealing considering the vast range of characters that the Overwatch universe has to offer. Exciting as it may sound, we have to consider all of these as speculations until we get to see the official LEGO Overwatch set reveal by tomorrow. Stay tuned here in our new website for more updates.
It’s getting close to about two months before Warner Bros. Interactive and Traveller’s Tales unleash their latest “bad”, but seriously good videogame title, LEGO DC Super-Villains. A lot has already been revealed about the game, particularly the plot and gameplay elements as seen last month during the San Diego Comic Con. However, it’s been a while since a new preview of LDCSV came out, and though this latest tease is particularly not that much, but we do get a glimpse on the practical application of how the game’s player character minifigure will be customized into a super-villain that could rub elbows with the Joker, Lex Luthor, and all the rest.
As shown in the mini-trailer posted on LEGO’s official Twitter account, we have the customizable main character controlled by the player, a regular crook in an orange prison jumpsuit. Here’s where the collectible in-game accessories come in, which upon being worn by the minifig character, gives him super-villain abilities.
Examples shown in the teaser are a “Viking Helmet” that apparently gives a head-butt or charge attack, “Falcon Wings” to enable flight and attacks from midair, “Chest Armor” to do football-style tackles, and one of Harley Quinn’s spare “Jester Hats” that apparently help cause chaos to everyone and everything around.
Of course, the ability descriptions above are only guesswork we’ve done from the accessory descriptions, but it does jive with the full character customization potential of LEGO DC Super-Villains that’s been the selling point for the game. We’ll wait until October 16 – or the next LDCSV trailer – to check if our ideas for the custom accessory items were spot on. For now this latest video game offering is now available for pre-order via Amazon retailing for $75.
It’s now close on to a couple of months since the official release of LEGO Incredibles, the WB Interactive-Traveller’s Tales videogame adaptation of the Disney-Pixar 3D-animated franchise. That title blends together elements from the original 2014 movie and some from its sequel, which had premiered simultaneously with the release date. With LEGO Incredibles now likely available with many of its target fandom, it’s a great time for WBI-TT to start dropping their downloadable content, similar to the title’s plethora of sibling games. And the developers have been only too eager to oblige at last because we now have the LEGO Incredibles Parr Family Vacation Pack DLC to celebrate summer.
The Parr Family Vacation Pack provides the Incredibles and their steadfast ally Frozone with the appropriate duds for a great day out in the beach. No masks to keep their secret identities with though, but who cares? It’s all good fun.
About the only shortcoming to this LEGO Incredibles DLC is the lack of a new playable stage to go along with the new duds. Oh well, it’s still plenty cool considering summer is still on. The Parr Family Vacation Pack retails for £1.59 or $2, available on PC/Xbox starting today.
In 2010, Traveller’s Tales published through Warner Bros. Interactive their first LEGO videogame based on the Harry Potter series, which at that point was winding down with its film adaptations. LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 covered the events of the first four books and films, while 2011 sequel Years 5-7 was based on the last three books and four films. These games, originally for Windows and Mac OS-X, were re-released on the PS4 in 2016 as the LEGO Harry Potter Collection bundle. And in keeping up with the times, this classic bundle is offered once again as the LEGO Harry Potter video games collection for Nintendo’s Switch.
Now, this little bit of info may have remained nothing more than a rumor for at least a few days yet, were it not for eagle-eyed observers who spotted that a listing for the LEGO Harry Potter video games collection for Nintendo’s Switch was registered with the Game Software Rating Regulations board of Taiwan.
The Switch reissue of this LEGO Harry Potter game bundle from WB Interactive and Traveller’s Tales was first floated at a retail catalog from Argos in the UK. Now, a visit to the Taiwanese Game Software Rating Regulations website shows a rating of “Auxiliary 12” (Google translate) for LEGO Harry Potter Collection, though the game’s listing date is not stated. Type the title in “Search”.
According to Argos’ listing, the LEGO Harry Potter Collection will arrive on the Nintendo Switch in November, priced at £24.99 or around $32.86, with DLC included.
When WB Interactive and Traveller’s Tales flipped the perspective on their earlier LEGO Batman videogame trilogy by announcing LEGO DC Super Villains, they generated a lot of excitement from players at the idea of playing the bad guys from the start. There was even more hype when it was revealed that the game will feature the creation of original villain characters to serve as the player’s direct avatar and viewpoint. While this latest WB Games offering is going to get a lot of attention when LEGO showcases it at the now-ongoing San Diego Comic Con, a LEGO DC Super Villains trailer was also released that both frames the presence of player-created characters in the game’s story while showing off more about the editing process and its effects.
The new trailer is narrated by breakout favorite DC baddie Harley Quinn, who talks about how the LEGO Justice League in their world was “vanished” by the so-called Justice Syndicate, who immediately establish a reign of terror; the DC villains grouse at the Syndicate’s crackdown on their evildoings which Harley lampshades: “We’re the bad guys, and they’re the worst guys!”
This latest LEGO DC Super Villains trailer also gives us a glimpse on how the super-villains, falling in under the assumed leadership of Lex Luthor, are ready to expand their ranks to make an anti-Syndicate army of baddies. That, says Harley, is where the player’s character comes in: a formerly mundane criminal who, in the character creator, gets his own customizable costume, weapons and even super-powers, to help the DC Super Villains save the day for “real villainy”.
So much focus was given by LEGO and WBI-TT on the character editor of LEGO DC Super Villains that they even set up a stand-alone version of it for SDCC, where guests can dabble with the libraries for costumes, weapons and powers to make their own villain on the spot. Hands-on demos of the game can also be had, not just at LEGO’s space, but at the booths for Warner Bros. and DC Comics too. Perhaps that will whet players’ appetites for the official release of LDCSV on October 19.
