LEGO Ideas Exploring the World of Middle Earth Building Challenge Now Up

The LEGO Ideas website has just announced the LEGO Ideas Exploring the World of Middle Earth building challenge. This new contest lets you render the world of Middle Earth brick by brick as you creatively imagine it.  Starting today until April 11, 2023, you can recreate your favorite Tolkien LOTR location or scene and have a chance to win a LEGO Icons The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell along the way.

Unlike other building challenges that limit you to a certain number of pieces or build dimensions, the LEGO Ideas Explore the World of Middle Earth Challenge doesn’t seem to have any of these restrictions. Furthermore, you are not just limited to the TLOR films themselves, but you can also draw inspiration from the books of the great J.R.R. Tolkien himself. You also have the leeway to use a digital model or one that is made of physical LEGO bricks.

There will be one (1) Grand Prize winner and one (1) Runner-Up winner for each category (Location and Scene). Prizes at stake for this building challenge are a LEGO Icons The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell (10316) set (valued at $500) signed by LEGO Designers Chris Perron and Wes Talbott, and a mystery prize package of TLOR goodies.

For more information about the nitty-gritty details of this building contest, be sure to review the LEGO Ideas building rules for this particular challenge.  Just be sure to register and have your original LEGO LOTR creation ready on or before the deadline on April 11, 2023 at 6PM EST. Winners for the LEGO Ideas Exploring the World of Middle Earth building contest will be announced on the platform on May 2, 2023.

Happy building everyone!

Additional 17 LEGO Product Ideas Enter the First LEGO Ideas 2023 Review Stage

Here’s another LEGO Ideas update. Following the initial 13 LEGO product ideas that managed to qualify for the First LEGO Ideas 2023 Review Stage, we now have 17 more that LEGO fans have supported. As of this posting, there are now a total of 30 LEGO Ideas hopefuls that will fall under the scrutiny of the LEGO Ideas Review Team once the next review stage commences.

First LEGO Ideas 2023 Review Stage Off to a Good Start

Ranging from everyday items to massive and imposing bipeds, this range of First LEGO Ideas 2023 Review qualifiers has something to offer to every ardent LEGO fan.

From the get-go, I have to say that I am a fan of mammoth ultra-build mechs, and the custom LEGO Godzilla from MattE720 quickly caught my attention. It is sure to dominate this batch of First LEGO Ideas 2023 Review Stage hopefuls.

The River Side Lodge is also a winner for me, with its clever use of gray pieces to recreate that mountain-side feel and nature that serenely surrounds the Lodge itself. It also offers a lot of potential for customizations if you wish to do your own personal interior decorating.

I can already see the many design opportunities especially if you’re looking forward to using one of our custom-printed kitchen flooring available at our official storefront at The Brick Show Shop. You may also throw in several custom 2×2 bingo cards to keep your minifigure vacationers busy as well.

Here’s a quick rundown of this batch of First LEGO Ideas 203 Review Stage product ideas that made the cut. Take a look and let me know in the comments below which of these you supported.

LEGO Ideas Second 2022 Review Results Pays Tribute to Jack Skellington

In case you missed it, the LEGO Ideas Second 2022 Review Results were finally revealed last week, with the announcement of another Disney title getting the LEGO treatment.

The LEGO Ideas Second 2022 Review Results Comes With 50+ Submissions

With a total of 51 submissions, it was another herculean task for the LEGO Ideas design team to select who would make it the cut to become an official LEGO Ideas set. And after several months, the team finally gave their verdict. LEGO Ideas Engagement Manager Hasan Jensen and LEGO Model Designer Ollie Gregory made the announcement. You can watch their video via the link above.

Red London Telephone Box

First, we have the iconic Red London Telephone Box by LEGO fan designer John Cramp (aka Bricked1980).

John, a native of Great Britain, profoundly appreciates the iconic Red London Telephone Box that has become a symbol of British culture and design.  Paying close attention to every little detail in his design, John beautifully replicates this original telephone box in LEGO form.

From the ornate crown decorations to the phone books tucked away inside, this LEGO Ideas Second 2022 Review results trailblazer includes all the memorable features that have made the Red London Telephone Box famous.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Another upcoming LEGO Ideas set is a re-creation from the brilliant mind of Simon Scott (aka Tvrulesmylife). This Tim Burton-inspired set highlights the home of Jack Skellington in his titular role in The Nightmare Before Christmas.

nightmare before christmas

It’s not the first time Simon has impressed the LEGO Ideas fan community with his amazing representation of the beloved stop-motion animated musical. His latest creation has again reached 10,000 supporters, and it’s easy to see why.

The LEGO Ideas review team was amazed by the level of detail that Simon put into this scene, which is instantly recognizable to fans of the movie. Jack Skellington and Sally, the main characters, are beautifully depicted, capturing the essence of their personalities and relationships. There’s no doubt that this brick creation deserves to be on the list of LEGO Ideas Second 2022 Review results champions.

There’s no word yet on when these LEGO Ideas Second 2022 Review results will fully materialize as actual LEGO sets, and be finally available to the market. But given the myriad of approved LEGO Ideas projects still in development, we’ll most likely see them in 2024.

We’ll also keep our radars open for the results of the Third 2022 LEGO Ideas Review Stage with its 35 product ideas that gathered support between September 2022 and early January 2023. So be sure to stay tuned.

Hype Builds Up as LEGO Tweets about the LEGO Ideas BTS Dynamite Set

In a rather surprising turn of events, LEGO managed to build an unprecedented level of excitement for its upcoming LEGO Ideas BTS Dynamite set. In just 24 hours, LEGO’s official Twitter account exploded with 11 million views and more than 87 thousand retweets as of this posting.

The teaser features the minifigure silhouettes of the 7-member South Korean boy band amidst the glow of stage lights. This next LEGO Ideas set was an instant hit among LEGO and K-pop fans when it was first introduced, supported, and approved during the LEGO Ideas Second 2021 Review Stage. The set is also expected to feature some of the imagery from their megahit song Dynamite which managed to amass 1 billion views in less than 8 months. Though we do not have official images yet, the set is expected to feature a studio setup, a diner, and the minifigure versions of Namjoon, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook as envisioned by LEGO fan designer Josh Bretz (aka JBBrickFanatic).

And to add up to the excitement, LEGO.com has released a microsite dedicated to the release of the LEGO Ideas BTS Dynamite set which is expected to make its grand debut at 11 PM EST on February 15, 2023.

We’ll keep this under our radars and be sure to bookmark our site for more LEGO Ideas news related to this.

LEGO Ideas Update: First Thirteen Qualifiers for the First LEGO Ideas 2023 Review Stage

Now that the LEGO Ideas Third 2022 Review Stage has been wrapped up, we are now seeing the initial batch of product ideas that managed to gather that needed 10K support to be included in the First 2023 LEGO Ideas Review Stage. Here’s a look at some of the product ideas that may turn out to be the next official LEGO Ideas set.

Right off the bat, I have to say that I am personally cheering for Ashnflash’s Shrek’s Swamp – 20th Anniversary set and the Retro Comic Store by LEGOverwatch. Ashnflash LEGO Ideas concept was an overnight success considering that an official LEGO set inspired by Dreamwork’s iconic green ogre can potentially become a tie-in set to celebrate this 2oth anniversary milestone. The recent box office success of the Shrek spin-off Puss in Boots: The Last Wish also catapulted this proposed set to 10K stardom.

Another product idea that I hope to see become a reality is the Retro Comic Store. It will be a great addition to any LEGO City MOC and other LEGO modular sets. It is also cool to see some vintage comic book titles rendered into printed LEGO titles, similar to our custom LEGO 2×2 printed tiles that we offer at our official storefront.

In any case, I hope for the success of all these product ideas as they enter this year’s LEGO Ideas First 2023 Review Stage. In no particular order, here are the initial batch of this year’s LEGO Ideas qualifiers. Click on their respective links below to learn more about these potential LEGO Ideas sets.

LEGO Ideas Pick-a-Brick Sets Coming Soon

In case you missed it, the LEGO Ideas website announced nine new LEGO Ideas Pick-a-Brick sets to be released this year. As part of last year’s re-opening of the LEGO Ideas Test Lab platform, these nine new designs were submitted as digital designs, in which LEGO Ideas members were invited to participate.

If you recall, the LEGO Ideas Test Lab was launched in 2017 as a new seedbed for testing smaller LEGO sets following a crowdsourcing model. The concept went into hiatus for some time and was re-launched in September last year in collaboration with LEGO’s Pick-a-Brick service. Participation in the re-launch was on a per-invite basis, where several prolific LEGO Ideas members and builders were asked to join. And after several months of review, we finally get to see our first wave of LEGO Ideas Pick-a-Brick sets.

There is no word yet on their exact release dates. But we can be sure that seven will be available anytime soon over at LEGO.com, while two will be available as seasonal sets. Chances are that they will be available via LEGO Pick-a-Brick packs together with their digital instructions.

Check them out below, and let me know your favorite.

LEGO Ideas 2023 Sets To Watch Out For

There are plenty of reasons to be excited for the next wave of LEGO Ideas 2023 sets. Though still in development at this time of posting, there’s already great anticipation for these sets.

2022 was a great year for LEGO Ideas, with a total of 9 LEGO fan-designed sets, 2 of which were approved to become gift-with-purchase sets in the likes of Cosmic Cardboard Adventures (40533) and Ray Castaway (40566). And for this year, the LEGO Ideas Design Team certainly has a lot on its plate as fans eagerly await their official rendition of this year’s LEGO Ideas 2023 sets.

For this year, we can expect the same number of official LEGO Ideas 2023 sets to be released similar to that of last year with 7 approved product ideas that eventually had the green light from designers. These LEGO Ideas 2023 sets are still in the works, and here’s a recap of this next wave of community-supported sets that we can’t wait to put our hands on this year.

In order of its review results, these approved sets are:

We can also expect a fan-designed, gift-with-purchase set in the form of a Tribute to Galileo Galilei to be available this year. If you recall, this original creation was the grand prize winner of the LEGO Ideas’ Ready, Set, Go, STEM Challenge in May last year. Created by fan designer Firecracker_, this GWP will most likely be offered towards the 2nd half of 2023.

The Tribute to Galileo Galilei is our next LEGO Ideas gift-with-purchase set. Fan model, not final product.

It is also worth noting that there are 3 more LEGO Ideas sets to watch out for, though they are more likely to be released by 2024. These upcoming sets are based on winning entries that came in on top of LEGO Ideas Challenges in collaboration with Target and Wizards of the Coast LLC. I’m including them here for our reference but they will most likely be available next year. However, bear in mind that nothing is set in stone as far as their release dates are concerned until such time that LEGO confirms their availability.

What LEGO Ideas 2023 set are you most excited about? Let’s talk about it in the comments below.

LEGO Ideas Dungeons and Dragons Set Coming Very Soon

The greatest fantasy tabletop role-playing game of all time is finally getting the LEGO treatment. Back in October, LEGO Ideas launched a building challenge that will test the mettle of LEGO and Dungeons & Dragons fans. And after several months of grueling idea intakes, expert reviews, and crowd votes, a winner was selected to become the first-ever LEGO Ideas Dungeons and Dragons set.

LEGO fan builder BoltBuilds and his Dragon’s Keep: Journey’s End MOC eventually bested other entries to officially become a LEGO Ideas set. The announcement was made last Thursday via the LEGO Ideas website.

We know who made the Fan Vote, but who has had their entry selected to become one of the next LEGO Ideas sets?!

After hundreds of entries and an exciting Fan Vote, only one could be selected! A huge thank you to everyone who participated. We are very happy to announce that Dragon’s Keep: Journey’s End has been selected! A huge congratulations to BoltBuilds, the incredible designer behind this submission.

LEGO Ideas Dungeons and Dragons

Fan builder BoltBuilds envisioned this next LEGO Ideas set to be the ultimate brick representation of the iconic game, featuring a Witches Tower, Tavern, Dungeon, and a Crypt. At approximately 3,000 pieces, this rendition also includes a magnificent Green Dragon, Beholder, and a party of six minifigures.

LEGO Ideas DnD set 6

LEGO Ideas DnD set 3

LEGO Ideas DnD set 4

LEGO Ideas DnD set 5

Given the size of this build, we can expect that the LEGO Ideas design team will certainly have fun stuffing in all the many play features that make this set uniquely D&D. We do not have a release date yet, but given the many approved LEGO Ideas product ideas still being worked along the way (such as the A-Frame Cabin and BTS Dynamite among others), we can somewhat expect this LEGO Ideas Dungeons and Dragons set to be on shelves sometime in 2024.

Will this be on your must-have list? Let me know in the comments below.
