Be Sure To Check Out These Retiring LEGO Sets That Will No Longer Be Produced After 2019

We’re just counting the days before the year ends, and LEGO was kind enough to notify us by email on what particular retiring LEGO sets will no longer be available once the year closes. When a LEGO set is deemed for retirement, it means that LEGO has pulled the plug on its production and will gradually be unavailable both in-store and online. Some of them may still be around and if you’re lucky enough, you may spot them at a far-flung corner of your local LEGO Store or a third-party seller.

So if you’re still holding back on that LEGO set that you have been thinking hard for so long, then now is the time that you might need to get it. The best part of getting them now before the end of the year is that several of them are now on discount to as much as 30% over at LEGO Shop@Home, plus with the promotional freebies that LEGO Stores are currently offering, there is a lot to gain in making that next LEGO purchase of yours.

Check out this listing of retiring LEGO sets and if you find a set that you needed to cross out from your “must-have” list, then be kind enough to click on the following affiliate links below to support our work here in The Brick Show. Any LEGO purchase that you will make via these links will help us continue what we’re doing here on the blog site.

Here’s a Nice Surprise: FREE LEGO Masters Shopping Bag Promo Now Up At LEGO Shop@Home

Though this promo was not mentioned in the December 2019 LEGO Store Calendar for non-spoiler reasons, it’s nice to see this appearing in my LEGO Shop@Home shopping cart. Beginning today until December 24, you’ll get a FREE LEGO Masters Shopping Bag for any LEGO purchase made online an in-store.

LEGO Masters Shopping Bag

From the looks of it, this free LEGO Masters Shopping Bag (5006086) is not made of the usual thin plastic material that LEGO shopping bags were made of. It’s definitely usable and a good way to support LEGO’s initiatives of cutting down on plastic usage as LEGO has previously announced. There seems to be no qualifying price point attached to this promo as well, so it’s nice to see this freebie arrive in your doorsteps regardless of the value of your LEGO purchase.

The best part is that it builds the excitement for the upcoming US version of the LEGO Masters reality TV show that was widely popular in the UK and Australia.  LEGO Masters US is scheduled to air via FOX on February 5, 2020. Details of the show are still a bit sketchy save for the fact that LEGO Batman Movie’s Will Arnett will be hosting the show. I’m excited to see who will be joining the roster of contestants, and I’m pretty sure that one of them is somebody who is very close to our brick-loving hearts. Needless to say, it’s simply awesome to see them on screen and coming up with those superb LEGO builds. Here’s the most recent preview trailer of LEGO Masters US in case you missed it.

Hosted by Will Arnett comes the new FOX competition show, LEGO MASTERS. Based on the hit British reality-competition series of the same name, LEGO MASTERS brings imagination, design and creativity to life when teams of LEGO enthusiasts go head-to-head, with infinite possibilities and an unlimited supply of LEGO bricks. Teams of two compete against each other in ambitious brick-building challenges to be crowned the country’s most talented amateur LEGO builders. In each episode, the competing pairs who impress the judges the most progress to the next round, until the finale where the top teams will face off for a cash prize, the ultimate LEGO trophy and the grand title of LEGO MASTERS.

The LEGO Trophy (40385) Is the Set Made for Champions

This one obviously missed my brick radar given the so many LEGO sets to be expected come by 2020. If you’re into LEGO desk accessories and you wish to proudly display your LEGO fandom, then be sure to check out the LEGO Trophy (40385) slated also for a January 2020 release. This new-for-2020 building set is now listed over at LEGO Shop@Home, retailing for $12.99 USD. Read on for more info.

LEGO Iconic Trophy (40385)

A fun, creative birthday present or gift to reward a great achievement, this building toy for kids and any LEGO fan is sure to make the recipient feel like a winner!

  • Reward achievements in a fun, creative way with this buildable LEGO® Iconic Trophy. This construction set also includes assorted extra elements and sports icon/celebratory message stickers to customize the trophy.
  • A fun gift idea for kids and any LEGO® fan aged 7 and up, this 200-piece construction set is great for solo building or sharing the fun with friends and family.

At $13 USD,  the LEGO Trophy (40385) set is a great way to celebrate the success of those around you. It’s a pretty straightforward build and the inclusion of personalized stickers adds more options in customizing this set. A New and Exclusive LEGO Star Wars Darth Maul Minifigure Arriving in 2020

If you had the opportunity of grabbing almost all of the LEGO books that were released this year, then you may want to add this next one to your must-have list of collectible LEGO books. And those who are looking forward to DK’s annual LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia will also be glad to know that it will also include once more an exclusive LEGO Star Wars minifigure. For 2020, LEGO is paying homage once more to one of the most controversial and influential Sith Lord of the Star Wars saga. A never-before-seen, exclusive LEGO Star Wars Darth Maul minifigure will come as a freebie for those who will opt to purchase the said DK offering when it arrives at bookstores on April 7, 2020 as listed via Amazon. Read on for the details of this new LEGO DK book.

LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia New Edition: with Exclusive Darth Maul Minifigure

Pre-order: $19.99 USD | Will arrive on April 2020

lego star wars darth maul freebie

Meet more than 200 minifigures from the LEGO® Star Wars™ galaxy!

DK’s LEGO® Star Wars™ Character Encyclopedia: New Edition is updated to include all the latest and new LEGO Star Wars minifigures! Meet amazing minifigures from all the Star Wars movies-including new minifigures from Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker. Discover incredible LEGO Star Wars facts, such as which minifigures are rare and which minifigures have exclusive printings, parts, and accessories. This new updated edition contains more than 200 best-loved minifigures, including Luke Skywalker, C-3PO, Chewbacca, Rey, Kylo Ren, and BB-8. The book also comes with an exclusive LEGO Star Wars Darth Maul minifigure!

LEGO Star Wars Darth Maul

From the looks of this minifig, it seems to be our first minifigure iteration of the infamous Sith as we see him in the spin-off film, Solo: A Star Wars Story. For most audiences and Star Wars fans, Darth Maul’s cliff hanger appearance at the end of the film shows how much the Dark Lord is still instrumental to the events leading to the classic Star Wars trilogy. Having this new LEGO Star Wars Darth Maul minifigure as an exclusive freebie for this book, in my opinion, is an excellent choice.

If you wish to be guaranteed a copy of this newest edition of DK’s LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia, then be sure to visit the above links and place your pre-order. Thanks to Brick Fanatics for the heads up.

More LEGO Disney Princess 2020 Sets Revealed

LEGO servers have been updated once again to include official images of additional LEGO Disney Princess 2020 sets that are slated to be available in January next year. If you recall from last month, the first wave of these sets was revealed by third-party retailers abroad, including some new sets that offer a new pop-up book design similar to what we’ve seen with LEGO Ideas Pop-Up Book (21315).  This time around, these previously revealed sets are now listed at LEGO Shop@Home, with three, new additional sets whose official images are now unveiled for us to see.

As it seems, we will be getting four (4) new Storybook Adventure sets including one that is inspired by the Frozen 2 sequel. Mulan will also have another set dedicated to her, particularly one that shows her in a rehashed set that took inspiration from last year’s Mulan’s Training Day (41151). This is the second LEGO set that features a new minidoll version of the Disney heroine that also comes with new printings. If you’re a fan of Mulan, then this is will be a nice incentive to get this set in January.

Moana also gets another 2020 set which shows a more accurate rendition of her travel companion, Hei Hei the Rooster. I like this newer version of this spaced-out fowl as compared to how he is seen from 2017’s Moana’s Ocean Voyage (41150). His recent microfig version offers a larger eye print and a more movie-accurate color scheme.

I’ve updated this listing here to include the links to these LEGO Disney Princess 2020 sets to their respective LEGO Shop@Home pages whenever applicable. Check these out.

More Official Images of LEGO Marvel Avengers and Spider-Man 2020 Released

A couple of weeks ago, retailers have started releasing wave upon wave of product listings and images for 2020’s LEGO Marvel Avengers and Spider-Man sets. This time around, LEGO servers have been updated recently to include better images of some of these sets. Product listings are not available as of press time, but I surmise that it will be available soon.

Noticeably, this new collection of LEGO Marvel Avengers and Spider-Man sets features several brick-built mechs and a handful of interesting minifigs that serious collectors will enjoy. We have a new minifigure version of Thanos, a more detailed Iron Man armor, a Spider-Girl Anya Corazon version, and a much-coveted Spider-Man Noir minifig. As I mentioned before, the design builds may not exactly appeal to most adult fans of LEGO, but the minifigures that go with them are a good incentive to get them.

These sets are expected to go live for sale both online and in-store starting January 1st. Be sure to keep tabs with shop.LEGO.com for more product updates later on. In the meantime, check out these better, clearer official images.

LEGO DC Super Heroes Collectible Minifigures (71026) Box Distribution Confirmed

For those of you (myself included) who would like to have an idea regarding the box distribution of LEGO’s hottest CMF as of to date, then read on for more details. We’re just counting the days before the year closes which also marks the official release of the LEGO DC Super Heroes Collectible Minifigures (71026). And in case you’re wondering about the odds in which you can get your fave LEGO DC minifig character, then Brickset gives us an early tip on the series’ box distribution.

DC Super Heroes Collectible Minifigures

DC Super Heroes Collectible Minifigures

The good news about this latest CMF series is that at the very least, you’ll get three copies of the same minifigure. This is somewhat an improvement as compared to other licensed CMF series such as the LEGO Wizarding World Harry Potter Collectible Minifigures (71022). If you recall, this particular CMF has 2 copies of some of its characters, with a sort of a chase minifig of Percival Graves thrown into the box. Gladly, this is not the case for the LEGO DC Super Heroes Collectible Minifigure (71026) that guarantees 3 complete sets of 16 characters right out of the box.

Like ones before it, this LEGO DC CMF comes in 60 blind bags per box with the following distribution. As a side note, each of these DC minfig characters is now listed at our official storefront over at the Brick Show Shop. Just click on the links below to find out more about this offer.

3 Blind Bags Per Box

(From left to right) Mister Miracle, SinestroCyborg, Batman, Huntress, Bumblebee, Bat-Mite

4 Blind Bags Per Box

(From left to right) Wonder Woman, Cheetah, Superman, Green Lantern, Metamorpho, Star Girl

5 Blind Bags Per Box

(From left to right) Aquaman, JokerThe Flash

In my opinion, having 3 complete sets outright is a nice incentive to get a box of this CMF, especially if you intend to redistribute them later on. Aside from having a collection of your own, you still have two complete sets that you may share with your other LEGO-loving buddies. However, the expected price tag for each of these blind bags may somehow discourage other buyers. There have been rumors that this CMF series will experience a price bump once 2020 kicks in, ramping up the cost per blind bag by an additional dollar. We have to wait and see if indeed this collectible minifigs will be sold for $4.99 USD each as compared to other licensed series like those of the Harry Potter (71022) and the Disney Series 2 (71024) CMFs when they debuted in the market at $3.99 per bag. If this indeed will be the case, then I guess it will leave a lot of LEGO fans a bit disappointed since this may start the trend of an eventual price increase among future CMF releases later on.

So what do you think? Will you collect all of the DC characters in this latest LEGO collectible minifigure series? Let us know what you think about the LEGO DC Super Heroes Collectible Minifigures in the comments below.

This LEGO 1989 Batmobile (76139) Designer Video Reveals How Impressive This Set Actually Is

A few weeks ago, LEGO Batman fans were awe-struck with what could be the largest LEGO vehicle offered thus far. In their LEGO 1989 Batmobile (76139) designer video, self-confessed Tim Burton fans, and LEGO Designers Chris Perron and Adam Grabowski share their excitement on the creative process that they went through in coming up with this iconic version of the Batmobile.

The LEGO 1989 Batmobile (76139) is both impressive in its scale and the play features that go with it. Designers Chris and Adam also made sure that they stay faithful to the original 1989 depiction of the Dark Knight’s vehicle. The set features machine guns that pop up at the turn of the knob, and a slide-open cockpit that the designers managed to pull off even at a tilted angle. Speaking about the cockpit, the interior is simply loaded with fantastic details. LEGO Graphic Designer Ioana Popescu made sure that every detail counts in this legendary vehicle. I love how the steering wheel turned out in this set. The wheels in front are new wheel elements, while those at the back are taken from 2014’s LEGO DC Comics The Tumbler (76023). The set also comes with a rotating display stand that makes it an even more awesome display piece.

76139 3

LEGO 1989 Batmobile (76139)

76139 9

76139 7

Since almost the entirety of the LEGO 1989 Batmobile (76139) is black, the designers were considerate to ensure that the inner workings of this set come in myriads of colors. This is extremely helpful in building such a large monochromatic set.

76139 6

The choice of design for the set’s exclusive minifigures also takes their cue from Tim Burton’s vision of the Dark Knight. The LEGO 1989 Batmobile comes with three minifigures: a new version of Batman donned in a new soft plastic cowl as seen in the film; Vicki Vale with a mini brick-built camera, and of course Jack Nicholson’s rendition of The Joker. I guess for most LEGO Batman fans, the highlight of these exclusive minifigs will Batman himself, especially considering that classic cowl and cape that comes as a single piece. Having it as such and doing away with the usual swatch of cloth for Batman’s cape is clearly intentional on the part of the designers, to make it as close as to how Tim Burton’s idea of Batman is during this time. Though I’m still racking my brain on how battle-efficient Batman is in this costume when he is unable to turn his head when fighting the bad guys.  Well, that’s just my opinion.

LEGO 1989 Batmobile (76139)

76139 2

The LEGO 1989 Batmobile (76139) comes in at 3,306 pieces and is now currently available at LEGO Shop@Home retailing for $249.99 USD.

WATCH: LEGO Creator Expert Bookshop (10270) Designer Video

After unveiling its next modular building set, LEGO has now released its LEGO Creator Expert Bookshop (10270) designer video. In this 5-minute video, LEGO Design Master Wes Talbott and LEGO Senior Graphic Designer Tore Harmark -Alexandersen give us a walkthrough on the fine details of this next LEGO modular set. Watch this.

One of the interesting features of this latest modular is that it comes as a sort of a 2-in-1 set: the Bookshop itself, and its adjacent apartment can be split apart either as standalone 3-story brick structures or as a single unit. An extra set can be used to add more floors if you wish to have a taller build.

LEGO Creator Expert Bookshop

Similar to previous LEGO sets of its genre, it kind of tells a story of the minifig occupants included with the set. Wes admits that he took his design inspiration from his parents and how he recalls his father to be a sort of local hero. These minifigures come with recolored elements such as the lady’s wig that now comes in black and the little boy’s scarf that is now available in green.

LEGO Creator Expert Bookshop

Speaking about recolored elements, the LEGO Creator Expert Bookshop (10270) comes with a handful of these most noticeable are the new plant and animal elements – the Dark Azure bird and the Dark Turquoise chameleon to be exact. For a complete list of all the new, recolored pieces included in this set, it will be helpful to visit New Elementary’s comprehensive review of the Bookshop. As an added treat, it was revealed that all the decorated pieces that come with this new modular are all printed. LEGO opted to throw away the sticker sheet this time.

The LEGO Creator Expert Bookshop (10270) is slated to arrive at all LEGO brand stores and at LEGO Shop@Home on January 1st, 2020. It comes in at 2,504 pieces with five minifigure characters and will retail for $179.99 USD.
