With a new film set in JK Rowling’s Wizarding World coming towards the end of this year, Warner Bros. is ramping up the promotion of this seminal modern fantasy genre with plenty of merchandising collaborations. Among them is LEGO with its numerous Fantastic Beasts and Harry Pottersets lined up.
One of the sets announced for the Fantastic Beastslineupwas one for a prominent (but inanimate) object present in the first film from 2016: the “bigger on the inside” suitcase of wizard magi-zoologist Newt Scamander. After almost two months of waiting, we finally have images of this LEGO set.
Thanks should be extended to LEGO Denmark, which has released a catalog detailing sets coming in the latter half of 2018, including Newt’s Suitcase (set number 75952) for the Fantastic Beasts wave in the larger Wizarding World sub-brand. It’s a location play-set that comes in a compact luggage carrying form.
But take Newt’s Suitcase (75952) apart and you can reconstruct the interior which is practically a menagerie/animal shelter for all the magical creatures found and cared for by Newt. In this set you can find the brick versions of the Erumpent, Occamy, the Thunderbird and that mischievous Niffler. Newt himself is accompanied by his Muggle buddy Jacob and MACUSA witch-sisters Tina and Queenie, all as minifigures.
According to the Danish LEGO catalog, set 75952 of LEGO’s Wizarding World series will cost 449,00 krone, or just about $70.53 once it comes stateside. Once again, we’ll have to wait until we get a date for its US release.
UPDATE: It looks like LEGO has revealed this a little too soon since the link to their digital Danish catalog is no longer working.

LEGO builders who own multiple sets in the vein of City, which has lots of buildings and minifigures, might have felt that they could do with having the option to buy more props and design options for their minifigures or set surroundings; but at the same time not have to buy a whole new set.
We’re not sure if LEGO managed to get this vibe from their customers or if they came up with the idea on their own, but now a new series of polybags have been spotted at Hamburg’s LEGO Store by Promobricks. They’re branded as LEGO xtra.
Promobricks tells us that these LEGO xtra polybags contain copies of various props that could be used to spice up a location scene in a LEGO City or similar set. There are vehicles, and food items, and shrubbery, and street infrastructure galore. Let’s have a closer look at these polybags.
Food (40309) – 30 pieces of pizzas, beer mugs, bottle-case, croissants, roast chicken, fish, carrots, etc.
Trees and Plants (40310) – 24 pieces of trees, shrubs, flowers, picket fences and so on
Traffic Lights (40311) – 46 pieces for traffic lights, wheelbarrow, broom and trash can
Streetlamps (40312) – 34 pieces for lamps (regular and with road signs), newspaper vending booth, mailbox and more
But Hamburg isn’t getting LEGO xtra all to itself for long. The news is that this new polybag line is going to hit more LEGO Stores on Friday, June 1. LEGO Store Hamburg priced them at €3.99 apiece, so that’s around $4.67 in the US. We’ll just have to wait.
It was at around the start of this year when the LEGO Ideas Review Panel announced the candidates for the Third Review Stage of Ideas submissions from 2017. Seven entries by Ideas members vied with one another to become the next official LEGO set to come out of the platform.
On the last day of May, close to half a year since that heads-up from the Review Panel, they have finally made their decision. There would be only one winner from this batch, and considering the submission’s similarity (and lack of licensed franchise attached) to an existing LEGO promotional set, its selection was no surprise.
The winning entry that’s going to become a LEGO Ideas set is “Pop-Up Book” by Jason “JKBrickworks” Allemann and Grant Davis. From the looks of it you can see the resemblance to the promotional set LEGO Creative Storybook (40291), set to debut by next month.
Compare the Creative Storybook (40291) set above, with the photo of the winning set at the start of this article, and you’ll see that JKBrickworks’ Ideas entry is just the LEGO promotional set but a bit bigger. The fact that the “pop-up book” mechanism reliably works is another positive point.
And with that, the 2017 Third Review Stage for LEGO Ideas has come to an end. The next 10K-Support bunch, with 10 entries this time, is now being scrutinized in the 2018 First Review Stage which started earlier this month. Chances are we’ll get a decision before the year ends.
The snow glows white on the mountain (of upcoming LEGO products) tonight, because at long last the coolest Snow Queen and her oh so adorable little sister have finally revealed themselves…in LEGO BrickHeadz form, that is. It’s nice to finally put photos to the rumors, and they are just perfect.
If you’re wondering, the initial alert regarding LEGO Disney’s Frozen BrickHeadz was courtesy of a LEGO catalog from Poland. From that, we know of the official designations for the two sets coming soon: Elsa (41617) and a 2-pack of Anna and Olaf (41618). No release date was included but the best bet is around July.
From the look on the characters’ faces as translated into BrickHeadz, the details are rather spot on, save perhaps for Olaf wearing a neutral expression instead of a smile, and the lack of a white brick part to simulate the frozen streak in Anna’s hair.
And with that, LEGO Disney’s Frozen BrickHeadz sets join the other franchises to be confirmed over the course of the past several days. We’ve got three sets for Harry Potter (two of them 2-packs), two for Star Wars, and one 2-pack for Ghostbusters. It’s a great time to collect BrickHeadz.
Earlier this month, we reported on another possible promotional set that is expected to be a hit among collectors. The LEGO Brand Store (40305) was expected to be a promotional set, thought to be given away at a particular LEGO Store opening. However, as the weeks roll by, sightings of the LEGO Brand Store (40305) set on store shelves across the globe suggest that this is not a promotional set that we once thought of. Other than being sold at LEGOLAND Billund, like we previously mentioned, Brickfinder reports that the LEGO Brand Store is also placed on sale and on display at store shelves in LEGOLAND Malaysia. This recent development is very much welcomed, especially for collectors who will be spared from going through the secondary market just to have this set for outrageous prices.

If these sightings of the LEGO Brand Store (40305) set are encouraging, the release of the set’s official images via LEGO’s servers further strengthens the notion that we might see this at our local LEGO Store anytime soon. Check out these images below.
The LEGO Brand Store (40305) has two minifigures: a LEGO Store employee and a child customer. LEGO also throws in a white microfig which is also pretty neat and helps emphasize that this set is a LEGO Store replica. It follows a modular design, with a detachable second floor, and other play features. We have no exact word yet on when this set will be available in the US, but given the conversion rate and estimated piece count, it is expected that the set might retail between $20 to $25. Stay tuned for more updates!
LEGO has always been totally out there for their massive global fan community, and one of the occasions they make for an opportunity to mingle is during their Media Fan Days events held, of course, at their hometown at Billund, Denmark. The one for this year’s already started this week!
That’s right. The 2018 LEGO Media Fan Days will kick off on Wednesday, May 30. Manymediasources covering the LEGO have been converging on Billund’s LEGO HQ this week for a prime chance to get great news and information right out of the company and their design teams themselves.
One can count on so many great reveals for upcoming LEGO sets on this event. In particular, the official launch of the LEGO Technic Bugatti Chiron (42083) will be jointly made by LEGO and Bugatti on Friday, June 1. You’d think it was a real car they’ll be revealing there.
LEGO Media Fan Days 2018 will run from Wednesday to the end of the week. We can definitely count on getting more news from announced sets like the Wizarding World’s Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts, Unikitty!, Jurassic World and more from the designers’ mouths. We’ll be right on reporting these upcoming reveals when they’re made.
LEGO has finally unveiled its next superhero video game, or should I say a super-villain inspired one. True to its promise of a full reveal following the release of a teaser trailer yesterday, we now have a grasp of what to expect from this next LEGO video game offering, which is slated to be released on October 16, 2018.
The LEGO DC Super-Villains video game allows players to have their very own, in-game customizable character that they will use to explore a brick-world where DC heroes and the Justice League is noticeably missing. Afterwards, your customized villain will be able team-up with some of the most detestably fun super-villains in the DC comics universe. We have the likes of Joker, the Reverse Flash, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Gorilla Grodd, and a host of other super baddies in which your character can work with.
The trailer does not reveal the game’s entire storyline, but gives us an idea of how things began rolling without the Justice League around to defend the Earth. The surprising fact is that our so-called villains may turn to out to be the real heroes after all.
Similar to last year’s LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 where its respective Deluxe Edition comes free with a unique LEGO Giant Man minifigure, the LEGO DC Super-Villains Deluxe Edition in turn will also come with a free, and exclusive Lex Luthor minifigure based on DC Comic’s Rebirth series. Aside from the main game, the Deluxe Edition will also include the Season Pass content, and an early access to the DC Super-Villains: TV Series DLC Character Pack once the game is available is for pre-order.
The LEGO DC Super-Villains will be released on October 16 this year, and will available across all major gaming platforms such as Nintendo’s Switch, Xbox One, and Playstation 4.
Check out the video trailer below followed by WB Games’ full press release.
BURBANK, Calif. – May 30, 2018 – Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games, The LEGO Group and DC Entertainment today announced LEGO® DC Super-Villains, the first LEGO game to put players at the center of a villain-centric adventure packed with favorite locations and characters from across the DC universe. For the first time, a LEGO game is giving players the ability to create and play as their own DC Super-Villain throughout the game. Their character becomes the center of the story, while teaming up with an iconic variety of villains to adventure through the hilarious and original story written in collaboration with DC. LEGO® DC Super-Villains will be available October 16, 2018 for PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One X®, Nintendo Switch™, and PC.
“LEGO DC Super-Villains provides players a fun and humorous way to cause mischief by unleashing their DC Super-Villain’s sinister powers and amusing abilities,” said Tom Stone, Managing Director, TT Games. “With an unprecedented amount of customization options to choose from, players can create and customize their character at the start of the story, unlocking new powers and abilities as they progress through the funniest LEGO game to date.”
“The original story in LEGO DC Super-Villains flips the DC universe upside down as players embark on an unforgettable adventure starring memorable villains set across notable DC locations,” said Ames Kirshen, Vice President, Interactive & Animation, DC Entertainment. “DC’s roster of iconic Super-Villains is unmatched and fans will love teaming up with The Joker, Harley Quinn, Lex Luthor and a host of others to save Earth from a greater evil.”
“LEGO DC Super-Villains gives players a new way to play with their favorite DC characters with a splash of light-hearted, villainous antics,” said Sean McEvoy, VP Digital Games, The LEGO Group. “Players will enjoy exploring the expansive DC universe in the way only a LEGO game can deliver.”
In LEGO DC Super-Villains, the Justice League has disappeared, leaving Earth’s protection to a newcomer group of heroes from a parallel universe, proclaiming themselves as the ‘Justice Syndicate’. Renowned DC Super-Villains from the ‘Legion Of Doom’ discover Earth’s newest heroes may not be the heroes they claim to be. With each player’s completely customizable Super-Villain character in command, this team of misfit lawbreakers must join forces to discover and foil the evil plans the incognito strangers have in store.
At the beginning of the campaign, players can create their own unique villain and main character throughout, while also teaming up with a variety of DC Super-Villains throughout the story mode. As players progress, they will unlock new abilities, powers and can continue to customize their character to take on the evil threat. Friends and family can join story mode at any time with the fun, two-player, local co-op experiences where players can team up in epic boss fights.
A Deluxe Edition of the game, featuring the main game content, Season Pass content and early access to the DC Super-Villains: TV Series DLC Character Pack, is now available for pre-order. An exclusive LEGO minifigure, Lex Luthor Superman, also comes with the physical version of the Deluxe Edition, while digital consumers will receive the Justice League Dark DLC Character Pack with their Deluxe Edition.
Following the cryptic, and troublesome graffiti left over on social media last week by dubious, LEGO characters, LEGO has just released a teaser trailer that officially announces the arrival of the LEGO DC Super-Villains video game. True to form, the teaser trailer underscores the chaotic rampage caused by villainous characters in the heart of Metropolis, irreverently defacing even the statue of the Man of Steel himself. At the same time, the mysterious WB Games website also updated its landing page by including the video of the said teaser trailer.
The teaser trailer promises a full reveal tomorrow, May 30th, so we hope to know more about this chaotic excitement by then. As we earlier reported, the said LEGO DC Super-Villains video is also rumored to come with an exclusive LEGO Lex Luthor minifigure. The said minifigure has been listed over at eBay for quite some time, and seeing this in person at our local LEGO fan convention – PhLUG’s ABrickadabra 2018 – confirms the authenticity of this minifigure. I’ll talk more about this, and my recent experience with this grandest LEGO fan convention here in the Philippines, in my next post.
For now, we will wait and see what manner of chaos and commotion this latest LEGO and WB Games will have to offer. Stay tuned!
Back in 2014, LEGO released a souvenir set that celebrates one of the notable places in the heart of Billund, Denmark. The LEGO Billund Airport (4000016), following the style design of the LEGO Architecture line, was exclusively sold back then at the LEGO Store located inside the airport. Only 10,000 sets were made at that time and even after 4 years since it was introduced, it remained available inside the LEGO store partly because of its relatively higher price as compared to other sets. Nonetheless, like any limited-edition set, its exclusivity was certainly attractive to collectors in spite of the higher tag price.
However, it looks like LEGO has now replaced this set with a new and revised one, with minor differences that is not easily recognizable at first glance. Brickset reports that the LEGO Billund Airport (40199) was recently spotted in the said LEGO Store inside the airport which basically replaced its older 2014 predecessor. Just to be clear, the LEGO Store inside the Billund Airport is not accessible to the public, unless you’re flying in and will pass through the passport control area.
A Brickset reader also mentions that the LEGO Store maintains a sort of ‘anti-scalping’ policy where in the cost of the LEGO Billund Airport (40199) set increases to up to 899DKK each if a customer will opt to buy 4 or more sets. This is a welcomed move, and I wish other LEGO Stores will also follow the same practice with other exclusive, or limited-run sets.
As I said, there is not much of a difference between the two sets except for some minor, aesthetic details. Try to see if you can spot them, and let us know in the comments below.
