LEGO Store at Disney Springs, Walt Disney World to Hold “Star Wars” Building Event with Millennium Falcon (Plus Freebies)

This Friday, finally this Friday, Solo: A Star Wars Story will arrive in cinemas and then people can see for themselves whether or not this franchise spinoff, described as a “space western”, was well-put together despite its production history of directorial changes and similar troubles.

On that day, the LEGO Store in Walt Disney World’s shopping complex Disney Springs will be hosting a building event that will carry on over the weekend. It’s necessary to have it go for that many days, because unlike recent building events in Europe and Canada, this is a giant undertaking needing lots of people.

For those thinking this is another “Make a micro Millennium Falcon and Take it home” stunt, it’s not. Rather, Disney Springs’ LEGO Store is inviting all interested comers to assist a team of Master Builders over the weekend to build a giant Falcon instead, measuring 15ft length x 12ft width.

Disney Springs

It’s almost a sure bet that this big Millennium Falcon brick model will be in the same colors as the one in Solo, whites and blues. That’d be sweet and will definitely sell that this is a promotion for the long-awaited Star Wars spinoff starring Alden Ehrenreich as young Han.

The Falcon-building exercise at LEGO Store Disney Springs will be from May 25 to May 28, from 12 noon to 8 PM each of those four days. In addition, there will be free minifigures from the store with every minimum $35 total purchase, a different character for each promo day.

  • May 25 – Darth Vader Magnet
  • May 26 – Admiral Yularen Minifigure
  • May 27 – Han Solo Minifigure
  • May 28 – Scarif Stormtrooper Minifigure

The listed free minifigures are available over the weekend while supplies last. For more info on the Disney Springs LEGO Store event, check out the official Facebook event page here.

The LEGO Incredibles Video Game Will Include Secret Playable Disney Pixar Characters

We’re just three weeks away before the release of LEGO’s and Disney’s biggest, super powered family both on the big screen and gaming consoles. And now we have some piece of news that hints on the possibility of having not just the members of the Parr family as playable in-game characters, but also some of Disney Pixar’s most popular animated characters as well.

As revealed by video game achievements site, True Achievements, it looks the LEGO Incredibles 2 video game will have a maximum of 51 in-game achievements, with a handful of secret achievements still waiting to be revealed. What is interesting about this roster of bragging rights is that it seems to tease on the possibility of seeing other Pixar names as playable in-game characters as well. The thumbnails for these achievements are super grainy so pardon me for if you have to squint a little.

The first one is quite obvious, with everyone’s favorite blue tang amnesiac swimming her way to LEGO Incredibles 2. The achievement’s description is very specific: “Complete an underwater race as Dory”.

This next in-game achievement spared the details, though it might hint on the possibility of having a roster of Disney Pixar characters available for play. The Truly Incredible trophy is available once the player completes all the family builds in the game.

The trophy seems to hint on the characters from earlier Disney Pixar movies such as Woody (Toy Story), Bing Bong (Inside Out), Wall-E, Merida (Brave), and Russell (Up). Bricks to Life shares the following infographic so you can have a better look at them as shown in the in-game achievement list.

We’re not sure at this point what TT Games and WB Games have in mind with these character reveals, but we’re sure it will be pretty exciting. So what do you think?

The LEGO Incredibles 2 video game is now available for pre-order across major gaming consoles (Playstation, Xbox, and Switch), while Disney Pixar’s next big film, Incredibles 2, will hit cinemas across the US on June 15.

LEGO Pays Tribute to Female Racing Legend Danica Patrick

When LEGO promotes an upcoming set for one of their numerous themed lines, they have the potential to go all out. This latest instance is proof of their promotional muscle. Among the upcoming new sets for the LEGO Friends line is a subset featuring the characters as go-kart racers.

The LEGO Group decided to do a two-for-one by having a celebratory gesture for pioneering female motorsports star Danica Patrick, and a promotional plug for the LEGO Friends Racing sets which will be out later this year. Last Tuesday, May 22, LEGO master builders put up a life-sized statue of Patrick built in LEGO at Times Square, New York City.

Before making a splash in racing history for IndyCar open-wheel racing and NASCAR, Danica Patrick started her competitive racing career on go-karts, the central vehicle of the new LEGO Friends Racing sets: Service & Care Truck (41348), Drifting Diner (41349), Creative Tuning Shop (41351), and The Big Race Day (41352).

LEGO Senior Director of Brand Relations Michael McNally puts it best saying, “Ms. Patrick is a true builder. From her earliest days as a young go-kart racer, she built her idea to be a challenger in kart racing…She is a phenomenal role model for all builders, particularly girls.”

As the LEGO brick has been an inspirational building tool for children, adds McNally, they felt it appropriate to make a LEGO brick-model tribute for Patrick this week before she embarks on her final appearance on the Indianapolis 500 this coming Sunday. The fact that doing so also advertises the LEGO Friends racing set was fortuitous opportunity.

The Summer LEGO set release, which also includes the aforementioned LEGO Friends in their racing gear and support infrastructure, will roll-out starting June 1st.

First US LEGO Mosaic Maker to Open in Flatiron NYC LEGO Store

There are just so many ways you can enjoy playing with LEGO, from the conventional sets and products to some more…esoteric applications. One of these is the LEGO Mosaic Maker, a photo booth-sized machine that converts any image of you into a mosaic rendition, interpreted in differently shaded LEGO bricks.

Due to the (relatively) massive size of its needed facilities, the LEGO Mosaic Maker is a rather limited resource, set up as a service only in selected LEGO Store outlets. Those who go in for one will get a custom Personalized Mosaic Portrait (40179) set to build their LEGO-fied photo.

Thus far, LEGO Stores across Europe and Asia have had great receptions for the Mosaic Maker, and at long last that service will be debuting in the US. To start things off, one LEGO Mosaic Maker booth will be set up at the LEGO Store in New York’s Flatiron District.

Hold your horses, though. To forestall the possibility of crowds, the Flatiron LEGO Store’s Mosaic Maker service must take reservations, to be made five weeks in advance of when customers drop by. So they’re holding a pre-booking event so you can sign up and reserve your spot at convenient dates.

Each LEGO Personalized Mosaic Portrait (40179) costs $129.99, to be prepaid at the Flatiron LEGO Store counter. They’ll then issue customers with the means to operate the LEGO Mosaic Maker booth: the Experience card with activates the contactless card reader. Hopefully more US LEGO Stores will get a booth soon.

Licensing Expo 2018 Has Activision Blizzard Announcing Future LEGO Sets for “Overwatch”

We’ve had Marvel and DC, Jurassic World and Star Wars, The Incredibles and Disney Princesses, and car manufacturers too. That’s the magic of LEGO and its licensing deals with a variety of franchises and brands: specific LEGO sets that click with anyone. And here’s a new addition to those franchises.

Through a recent press release, videogame developer Activision Blizzard, from which iconic and popular game titles spring forth like World of Warcraft and Call of Duty, made a surprise announcement at the start of the Licensing Expo 2018 this week. They mean to partner with LEGO which will result in a new series of products tying into one of their prize franchises: FPS hit Overwatch.

That’s right; this quirky yet fun shooter phenomenon will be covered in everybody’s beloved brick brand. LEGO Overwatch sets are said to come in different established LEGO product lines with variable price points, so there will be something for everyone.

One now wonders what sorts of LEGO Overwatch goodies we’re going to get in the future with this partnership. Perhaps sets recreating various game stages – with minifigures – might be the norm. But there might also be Overwatch character BrickHeadz, or maybe even buildable figures, like the ones for Star Wars.

This team-up with LEGO is the latest of many merchandising expansions for Overwatch and games of Activision Blizzard in general. They already have similar toy deals with Hasbro, and an exclusive clothing line to be produced by Japanese casual-wear brand Uniqlo. We’re looking forward to what LEGO will spin off.

Official Title Logo for “The LEGO Movie 2” (2019) Released

When The LEGO Movie graced theaters in 2014, it opened the gates for more LEGO-themed animated movies, previously released only direct to video, to make a splash on a bigger screen. Last year saw the double-whammy of LEGO Batman and LEGO Ninjago, proving the concept of a LEGO cinematic universe.

But those two are spinoffs, and ultimately we’d want to know what further happens in the lives of Emmet, Wyldstyle and friends. LEGO and Warner Bros. Animation have already confirmed a sequel is coming, and now they’ve cemented its production progress by revealing its full title and official promo logo.

So here we have it, the official title design for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. It’s a rather redundant subtitle, but the block design of the letters makes it work. Yes, it’s just a flip of the original LEGO Movie title with more blue, but it looks promising.

41355823705 faf3978678

Considering this LEGO Movie 2 logo has been revealed, it can only mean that LEGO and WB Animation are all set to do some advance promotions, considering that its premiere date is still for February 2019. Eyes are looking toward July’s San Diego Comic Con as a possible preview venue.

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part sees the return of the main actors in their original voice roles: Chris Pratt as Emmet Brickowski, Elizabeth Banks as Wyldstyle, and Will Arnett as LEGO Batman, plus newcomer Tiffany Haddish in a yet undisclosed role. Watch this space for more TLM2 updates.

Toys R Us Canada to Have Its Own Star Wars LEGO Make & Take on June 1, with Millennium Falcon from “Solo”

Last Saturday, May 19, Toys R Us France – still surviving after the closure of the UK’s stores, a major European market – held the “traditional” Make & Take event with its stores in the country, themed after the popular LEGO-licensed franchise of Star Wars. The subject was the familiar micro-build of the famous Millennium Falcon spaceship.

Now, it’s Canada’s turn. The Canadian division of Toys R Us, which also continues to operate after being sold to investment firm Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd. in Toronto last April, will be holding its own Star Wars LEGO Make & Take event for June 2.

As you’ve guessed, the LEGO mini-build that’ll be featured at the occasion is, again, the Millennium Falcon. But while the Falcon built at the recent Make & Take by TRU France last Saturday was the “original gray” version, this one’s the “new” version from Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Interested participants in Canada may head to their nearest TRU store in June 1 – Friday next week – in order to get a chance to build their own LEGO micro of the blue-and-white Millennium Falcon. Aside from this, they can also complete an activity card to get a free Solo poster.

For your guidance, the Star Wars Make & Take event on June 1 will run from 11AM to 2PM, the usual 3-hour average duration for all other occasions just like it. Don’t forget too, that Solo: A Star Wars Story will premiere in cinemas this coming Friday on May 25.

June 1 Reveal of LEGO Technic Bugatti Chiron (42083) Will Be LEGO House Event on Billund, with FB Live-Stream

Man, oh man, does LEGO sure know how to generate suspense, build up hype and just all around tease! There’re a lot of upcoming LEGO product previews we’ve been keeping tabs on; one’s a special LEGO Technic set that’s apart from the others already revealed, a beautiful TRON-like sports car.

We’re talking about the long-promised LEGO Technic Bugatti Chiron (42083) that’s set to make its big introductory splash on the first day of June. They’ve even got a countdown clock going for it on the Chiron’s dedicated page at LEGO.com; but LEGO’s decided to give us one last product tease.

Said tease comes in the form of a new image of the completed LEGO Technic Chiron (42083) with a dark cloth draped over it, like any car hidden under tarp. This is a poster for the grand unveiling of the set in June 1, with lots of very important guests.

From the official LEGO Facebook page, the reveal of the LEGO Technic set 42083 will be done at the LEGO House in Billund, with the respective presidents of The LEGO Group and Bugatti Automobiles SAS in attendance. They’ll even host a live-stream of the event on FB, starting 9AM (CET).

That’s a lot of special treatment for this truly special addition to the LEGO Technic line, and we’re looking forward to seeing the thing next month. The June 1 event, to be live-streamed by LEGO would translate across time zones to be about 3AM East Coast, or 12MN out West.

Level Up Your Weekend Builds With These Cool Selections of Custom LEGO Arcades

Last March, we featured one particular LEGO Ideas Project that garnered the coveted 10K votes, and eventually made it to the list of projects to be reviewed during LEGO Ideas’ first 2018 Review Stage. For LEGO and gaming fans (such as myself), the Modular Arcade is one LEGO Ideas project that we really like to see happen. I’m a fan of arcades, and seeing this project by Astronaut Avila become an actual LEGO set is something that I’m looking forward to.

However, since were months away before the results of the first 2018 LEGO Ideas Review Stage is announced, I guess we just have to improvise for now, just what LEGO fan brickdance9 did with his reimagining of the LEGO Creator Downtown Diner (10260), and turning it into a crazy cool car showroom.

For now, if you’re eyeing on building your very own customized LEGO Creator Arcade, then you will definitely need to load it with a nice selection of brick-built, minifig scaled arcade machines. If you need a bunch for your own Modular Arcade MOC, then you’ll be glad to hear that the Brick Show Shop is running a sale all throughout the weekend, with a BUY 3 GET 1 deal for all of its custom LEGO arcades. The shop offers a wide variety of custom, minifig-scaled LEGO arcade machines inspired by classic 80s video games such as Donkey Kong, Centipede, Q*Bert, and Pac-Man.  They also come with unique, high quality stickers that bring these tiny MOCs to life, giving that Modular Arcade project of yours a run for your money.

If you wish to avail of this promo, just head over at the Brick Show Shop, choose the custom LEGO arcades that you want to purchase, and use the coupon code BUY3GET1FREE upon checkout. You may also want to try their latest addition which is the Custom LEGO BLOK Classic Arcade Machine inspired by the 1982 TRON film.

While you’re at it, you may also want to check the rest of the shop’s arcade collection like the Custom LEGO Gumball Machine and LEGO Air Hockey Table. Stephen and Jason also did their own LEGO Arcade Room MOC from 3 years ago incorporating these cool selections of custom LEGO arcades as you can see below.

Happy weekend building!
