Just this September, The LEGO Group inaugurated one of their latest attractions right on their own doorstep. LEGO House, also known as the “Home of the Brick,” is a multipurpose interactive experience located in Billund, Denmark – home of the LEGO Headquarters.
Part-LEGO store, part-café, part-public art piece and part-educational attraction, the 12,000-square meter complex is a brand-new play venue for the whole family that is centered on the progressive learning competencies gained from playing with LEGO.
It’s the hottest new LEGO-themed getaway, and the company would like to help you get a one-night stay at the Home of the Brick.
LEGO has just announced that they will be offering this opportunity for their loyal customers by teaming up with Airbnb, one of the most trusted online hospitality services in the world. Starting November 1 to November 16, interested applicants with a registered Airbnb account can try to win a one night’s stay at the LEGO House in Billund, fit for a group or family of four.
They will be hosted at the Home of the Brick by real-life LEGO Master Builder Jamie Berard. To enter the contest at, you need to answer one question: If you and your family had an infinite supply of LEGO bricks, what would you build?
If your little composition (50-500 characters) catches LEGO’s fancy, you and your family/group of four (children must be at least age 4) will be flown in to Billund and received at LEGO House by Master Builder Jamie, their host for the evening, on November 24.
It will be a magical experience shared by your party as you literally build your wants and needs with LEGO blocks, and Jamie will even help turn your dream LEGO building vision into reality by the following morning. Try your luck by registering with Airbnb and submitting your entry at their contest page here.
UPDATE: The official December LEGO Store Calendar is now up on LEGO’s servers. I’ve updated the images below to include those that are actually found on the calendar.
LEGO caps off the year with a string of promotionals that you can find in the LEGO December Store Calendar. This year’s last LEGO Store Calendar offers a mix of freebies coming from the LEGO Ninjago, Creator and Star Wars themes. Plus, it gives us an early access to some of LEGO’s 2018 sets. Check the images below, or you can download the entire calendar in PDF format right here.
December 1 to 7: Free Master Wu Keychain (5004915) with a purchase of $35 or more of any LEGO products.
As we previously reported, the Master Wu Keychain is part of the series of freebies tied-in with the LEGO Ninjago Movie, earlier announced last July. Frankly speaking, there not much of a difference between this keychain counterpart of Master Wu as compared to those included in three TLNM sets: Master Falls (70608), Green Ninja Mech Dragon (70612), and Destiny’s Bounty (70618) so I expect that this will not be highly sought out for as compared to the LEGO Ninjago Movie Kendo Lloyd (30608) polybag.
The free Master Wu Keychain is valid from December 1 to 7 or until supplies last.
December 5 to 6: VIP Monthly Model Build is a Train (40250).
To reserve your spot, simply register for the December MMB by visiting shop.LEGO.com/Minibuild-Registration starting November 15. The LEGO MMB is meant for children ages 6 to 14, and must be completely built in store.
December 8 to 10: Double VIP Points on Everything.
If you still have time for some last minute Christmas holiday shopping rush, then you may want to go over your LEGO Christmas shopping list once again. For three days, you can earn those double VIP points while bagging those sets included in your LEGO wishlist. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed for that UCS Millennium Falcon.
December 8 to 17: Free LEGO Creator Mini London Bus (40220) with a purchase of $75 or more, or while supplies last.
Rolling out of its garage is the LEGO Creator Mini London Bus (40220), and it is back once more as a free promotional for a price point of $75 and more. It’s kind of nice of LEGO to bring back this younger sibling of the LEGO Creator Expert London Bus (10258) and have it offered once again with the same qualifying purchase when it first went live in 2016.
If you can hold on to that next LEGO purchase, and if you can add $40 worth of LEGO sets in your shopping bag, then this freebie is a better offer than that of Master Wu Keychain earlier mentioned.
December 15, 2017 to January 14, 2018: Free LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Anniversary Pod (5005376) with a LEGO Star Wars purchase of $60 or more.
This fifth and latest promotional pod is a nod to Star Wars’ 40th anniversary, with the iconic Sith Lord being the highlight of this minifigure promotional. This latest minifigure version of Darth Vader seems to be a redesign over previous ones, and bagging this freebie is the best way of adding him to your collection. The smallest set by far in which you can add the Sith Lord in your roster of LEGO Star Wars minifigs is thru the Darth Vader Transformation (75183) set retailing for $25. For a price point of $60 and above of any LEGO Star Wars products, this is certainly a good catch.
Lastly, LEGO certainly knows how to end the year with a bang, with several 2018 sets being available as early as November 25. I am particularly excited for the LEGO Creator Modular Skate House (31081) which is a part of LEGO’s early reveal of its 2018 LEGO Creator line-up. Of course, we also have the re-released LEGO Creator Expert Taj Mahal (10256) – the now 2nd largest LEGO set ever made, having been bested from its throne by the UCS Millennium Falcon (75192) – scheduled for another run starting November 27.
The December LEGO Store Calendar also gives us another treat by giving us a peek of one of the 2018 Nexo Knight sets which is the Berserker Bomber (72003). It was previously reported that the Nexo Knights theme was given another year, with six additional sets slated for next year accompanying a new story arc. We’ll talk more about that later in my next post.
Next year, one of the most pioneering sci-fi films in terms of the use of CGI on live-action will be celebrating its Silver Anniversary: the 1993 Universal Pictures blockbuster, Jurassic Park, directed by Steven Spielberg based on the novel by Michael Crichton.
The studio is revving up to celebrate 25 years of fiction’s most famous dinosaur park by unleashing an avalanche of tie-in merchandising across multiple media platforms. This milestone celebration also comes alongside the worldwide premiere of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the fifth film in the franchise and direct sequel to the hit comeback movie Jurassic World in 2015.
Now, it’s been known that LEGO is also once again in partnership with Universal in cranking out merchandising for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. As early as April this year, there has been news of the company is planning no less than five standard LEGO sets (75926, 75927, 75928, 75929, 75930), three Junior sets (10756, 10757, 10758) and two Duplo sets (10879, 10880) that will most definitely depict events from the upcoming sequel.
There would also be LEGO books – in paperback and digital format – based on the setting such as “Owen’s Survival Guide” from Scholastic and a LEGO Jurassic World “Reader with Stickers.” There’s no word yet, however, if they will also cook up new LEGO sets or merchandise tying to the original Jurassic Park on its anniversary. It should be recalled that LEGO released some play sets and a humorous CGI web short entitled Indominus Escape when Jurassic World came out two years ago.
The official “Jurassic Park” 25th Anniversary items that were confirmed include a commemorative silver-plated coin (with the logo as the head and a fossilized mosquito as the tail), which is slated to be released this November. Also coming are art print posters, a children’s adaptation from Little Golden Books, a junior novelization reissue in hardback, and more to be announced.
Universal plans to devote January to April 2018 for celebrating the silver anniversary of the original film, with the rest of the year being devoted to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The sequel premieres on June 22, 2018.
LEGO is pretty much the original and genuine article when it comes to plastic building blocks and minifigures that have a fixed place of sorts in many childhoods. That, however, has not stopped many other companies in trying to put their own spin on the iconic interlocking-block system made famous by the Danish-based global toy giant.
The company has been fighting other manufacturers rolling out similar counterfeit sets for years. This year they may have won a significant victory for brand protection in China, where its legal system has accorded the LEGO name the distinction of being a “well-known trademark.”
It was revealed by LEGO that as of July this year, the Beijing Higher Court passed a ruling that publicly designates both the LEGO logo and LEGO transcribed in Chinese to be “well-known trademarks” in the country. In effect, this gives The LEGO Company greater leeway in pursuing any infringement of their copyrights within China, both in and out of the toy market category.
This is extremely vital for companies operating in the Chinese market, where knockoffs of famous international brands and products continue to be made today by unscrupulous manufacturers. It also prioritizes the LEGO brand over local outfits that exploit the first-to-file trademark and patent system in China.
LEGO Group Legal Affairs VP Peter Thorslund Kjær describes their company’s “well-known trademark” status as recognition of their genuine quality and commitment to Chinese parents buying their building play sets and minifigures for their children. He also expressed LEGO’s appreciation to the Chinese government and authorities for their official support for the international uniqueness of their trademark and logo.
This comes as a major windfall for LEGO that might just make up for the unfavorable outcome of their legal battle with the Canadian brand Mega Bloks over a decade ago in 2005.
LEGO doesn’t look like it could be running out of promotional ideas anytime soon. And the next big event on their schedule is just right for the holidays. “Winter is coming”, as a popular TV series says, so LEGO Rebrick is holding a building contest to get everybody in the spirit of the season.
The LEGO Rebrick Winter Wonderland Worlds contest takes it cue from the sandbox videogame LEGO Worlds from Warner Brothers Interactive and Traveller’s Tales, which was released just this September on multiple consoles. Aspiring skilled builders with big imaginations are being invited to wow LEGO with their creativity.
The objective of Winter Wonderland Worlds is simple: contestants need to design the best winter wonderland scene they could out of LEGO shapes and minifigures. They have multiple options on how the diorama or vignette can be set up. The primary tool is the LEGO Worlds game title, with players constructing a winter landscape populated by wonders and minifigure people.
Alternatively, builders can try to realize their vision with actual LEGO bricks and minifigures, or using computer software like LEGO Digital Designer. Once contestants have finished their design, they can submit five snapshots of their creation, along with a description of the scene and their personal details to the Rebrick section on the LEGO website.
The grand winner of the Winter Wonderland Worlds contest will receive a Sony PlayStation 4, a PS4 copy of LEGO Worlds, along with the Classic Space and Monsters DLC Packs, and two LEGO sets from LEGO Ninjago Movie theme: Green Ninja Mech Dragon (70612) and Fire Mech (70615). They might also see their diorama being adapted in one LEGO Worlds’ future DLC updates. How’s that for bragging rights?
Eleven runners-up will receive only the PS4 “LEGO Worlds” game with expansion and the Ninjago kits. The deadline for entries is on November 28, so better hurry and start building!
It’s always amazing whenever you think of all the licensed franchises that have joined hands with LEGO to create some of the most popular play sets, minifigures and other products that have come out with their branding on them.
One of the hottest properties to get the LEGO treatment is of course, none other than “Star Wars.” They have graced builders young and old with such remarkable sets like the Millennium Falcon and the Death Star, as well as minifigures of the franchise’s characters. Now they are bringing new additions to the BrickHeadz line at the start of the month.
LEGO BrickHeadz, large, but super-deformed statues with large heads built out of LEGO blocks, is introducing two new sets in their Star Wars corner. On November 1, along with the LEGO Ideas: Women of NASA (21312) set, LEGO Star Wars is introducing BrickHeadz sets of two characters from the sequel trilogy of Episodes VII to IX.
First up is a figure of Resistance hero Finn (41485), the defected Stormtrooper played by John Boyega. The other is a figure of Finn’s former superior in the First Order, Captain Phasma (41486). Both are depicted in Stormtrooper armor and armed with blasters.
The new LEGO Star Wars BrickHeadz sets are both now available at the LEGO Shop online. Both are priced at $9.99 each; the Finn BrickHeadz has 91 pieces, while Captain Phasma comes in at 127 pieces.
Note that in the UK online store these two are joined by the Ninjago Brickheadz sets of Lloyd (41487) and Master Wu (41488) that have been online stateside for a while. Aside from the Women of NASA, other play sets that have landed in LEGO UK on the first of November include two Holiday-themed sets, the Christmas Train Ride (40262) and Town Square (40263).
Whenever the Holiday Season comes around, leave it to LEGO to have something with which to celebrate this happy occasion with their loyal builders and fans. One of their traditions in this time of year is their holiday promotional, the LEGO Seasonal Christmas Build-Up 24-in-1 (40253) set.
This set contains an average of over 200 LEGO pieces, and can be put together to form several Christmas holiday symbols from the iconic to the off-the-wall. Soon it will be time to mark the days to December 24th when LEGO presents this year’s version of their Holiday Countdown Set, available from November 1 to 15, both in-store and at shop.LEGO.com.
Although at first glance (especially by those who bought the similar it last year), the LEGO Christmas Build-Up (40253) set looks rather similar piece-wise to the 2016 version (40222), the 254 pieces included in this box are all new ones for the year. Ranging from single-peg components to wide bases, this set will have young builders creating a great variety of season relics.
There are pieces to form a large brown reindeer, a Christmas tree, an Advent Wreath and even a snowmobile among others. The real fun is figuring out all 24 different creations that can be made.
That last part has a clarification, however. The 24-in-1 label on the box art is not entirely accurate in that, while LEGO has pegged a total of 24 possible builds out of the set, you can’t have all 24 assembled at once. There can be only several of the total at any given time, and that’s quite the downer.
The LEGO 2017 Holiday Countdown set is available from this November by means of LEGO’s Shop@Home platform. It will come free with any online purchase worth a minimum of $99, and it will be on offer for as long as supplies last.
Marvel fans all over are falling all over themselves getting ready to catch the latest part of the MCU with the impending release of Thor: Ragnarok. A major film release like that is bound to have tons of tie-in merchandise related to it.
Other than the two previously released LEGO Marvel Super Heroes sets dedicated to the film – The Ultimate Battle for Asgard (76084) and Thor VS Hulk: Arena Clash (76088) – LEGO is now in the final preparations for the release of the highly anticipated video game sequel, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2. Scheduled to be released across all major gaming consoles and PC starting November 14, the sequel also gives a nod to the Norse god of thunder in its latest video game trailer. What better way to hype the title and show that it also have elements of the latest MCU movie!
The trailers for Thor: Ragnarok have done a serviceable job of getting the gist of the film across. The prophesied downfall of Asgard is getting closer with the threat of the Fire Giant Surtur, and it is being accelerated by the Goddess of Death Hela making her own play for the throne of Odin.
The king of Asgard is actually somewhere on Earth while his adopted son Loki rules in his name and image. And after he gets lost somewhere in the galaxy trying to stop Hela, Thor must now escape the clutches of the game-obsessed Grandmaster and return home.
All this, and much more, can now be seen in the latest video game trailer released by WB Games. As it is intended to be, this latest trailer features a mashup of all the familiar characters, both in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and their comic book counterparts. It also highlights the many versions of Thor only seen in the comics. Among them are Frog-Thor, the alien Beta Ray Bill and the present comics female Thor (actually Jane Foster). Check out the trailer below.
The Ragnarok action sequences are played up in the trailer with its trademark blend of exciting Marvel action, and LEGO’s brand of humor. Just imagine Heimdall leaving a mark on Broadway.
Thor: Ragnarok comes out in cinemas stateside this Friday, November 3. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 with all of its cool stuff from Ragnarok, will be released on November 14 across major gaming platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam (PC) and the Nintendo Switch. Pre-order the Deluxe Edition today and you’ll get access the entire Season Pass content which includes 6 Level Packs, 4 Character Packs and an exclusive Giant Man LEGO minifigure.
November is finally here, and this means that it’s time to gear up for some serious LEGO holiday shopping. LEGO Shop@Home has been recently updated to include several new sets, especially that we are a few weeks away before Brick Friday kicks in. For more details on what to expect from the LEGO Store this month, check out the LEGO Store’s November Calendar.
Among these exclusives to hit the shelves at the start of this month, we have the NASA-inspired LEGO Ideas Women of NASA (21312) retailing for $25, It comes in at 231 pieces and features four minifigures of the most prominent women in the field of space exploration.
Star Wars fans may be delighted to know that a couple of new LEGO BrickHeadz is now available to add to your collection. The LEGO Star Wars BrickHeadz Finn (41485) and Captain Phasma (41486) sets are now officially available, each retailing for $10. These are the first commercially available, non-exclusive LEGO Star Wars BrickHeadz sets made available, other than the super rare Boba Fett and Han Solo in Carbonite (41498) NYCC exclusive. However, as LEGO announced during this year’s New York Comic Con, fans can expect more LEGO Star Wars BrickHeadz – four to be exact –slated to be released sometime in January and April. Be sure to check out Jason’s review of the Finn and Captain Phasma BrickHeadz to know more what to expect from these eye candies.
Finally, one of this year’s LEGO holiday promotional is now live. From November 1 to 15, any LEGO purchase of $99 and above entitles you to a free, LEGO Christmas Build-Up (40253). This set comes in at 254 pieces that allows you to build 24 different Christmas themed minibuilds, similar to what LEGO offered last year with its Holiday Countdown Calendar (40222).
Brick Show’s Master builder Tyler, was busy during these past few days creating a series of brick-built monster faces just in time for Halloween. The night of trick-or-treating might be over, but these LEGO monster faces – especially this brain-leaking undead – will probably stick around in my head for quite some time.
Tyler did not shy from adding details in this ghoulish MOC – the pink LEGO bricks really looked well (or gross, depending on how you look at it) inside that cracked skull, and adding that green tooth piece for zombie drool really nailed it. It is kind of reminiscent of Chris Maddison’s work from last year, when he thought of ‘dressing up’ his LEGO bricks for Halloween. Simply impressive.
As part of his LEGO Halloween Faces series, Tyler also added another visage that only a mummy can love. This wonderfully wrapped mummy using LEGO tiles at just the right angles is absolutely spot-on. The partially covered eyes, as if they were peeking ominously in between those bandages, coupled with the jagged broken teeth can certainly scare the wits out of any LEGO brick.
And of course, fright night will not be the same without the eerie, screeching laugh of the evil, wicked witch. Tyler’s excellent use of the radar dish and 1×1 round brick pieces for the witch’s eyes makes this MOC frightfully creepy. The way how Tyler managed to give this LEGO Witch MOC a gaping mouth, while keeping things balanced and in proportion, is a testament to his skills as a master builder. Add in some yellow cheese slopes for its teeth, a round brown tile for a wart and a crooked nose just for good measure, then you can have a face that will surely melt any LEGO brick in fear.
Here’s the rest of his LEGO Halloween Monster Faces from this series, and if you want to see more of Tyler’s creations you may want to check his Flickr (aka Legohaulic) account and his videos on Brick Show’s YouTube channel. Let us know in the comments below which are your personal favorites.
