SDCC 2019 LEGO Exclusive Captain Marvel and the Asis (77902) Revealed

San Diego Comic-Con 2019 is now set, and the throngs of this year’s SDCC attendees may now have a chance to grab one of its exclusives. As revealed today via SDCC’s blog site and Yahoo! Entertainment, we now have this year’s SDCC LEGO exclusive which is the Captain Marvel and the ASIS (77902) building set.

Captain Marvel and the Asis (77902)

Like other SDCC exclusives from last year, LEGO will be adopting the SDCC Online Exclusives Portal System via lottery in order to determine who is eligible to purchase this set. I guess LEGO event exclusives are here to stay despite LEGO’s efforts some sets available in all regions.

Captain Marvel and the Asis (77902) Captain Marvel and the Asis (77902)

The Captain Marvel and the ASIS (77902) set comes in at 271 pieces and is expected to retail for $45. It features a new minifigure iteration of Captain Marvel herself, a new minifig of Carol Danver’s former flying partner and ace pilot Monica Rambeau, and Goose going Flerken-crazy. The central part of the build is Captain Marvel’s signature jet – the Asis. The box art also sports Captain Marvel, drawn over as a stylized comic book cover. Similar to last year’s LEGO SDCC exclusives, we can somehow expect that LEGO will be releasing the building instructions for this set, though the real catch here is the new minifigs of Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau. LEGO has only released three non-exclusive sets featuring Captain Marvel: Avenjet Space Mission (76049) from 2016, and the more recent Captain Marvel and the Skrull Attack (76127) and Avengers Compound Battle (76131) sets from Avengers Endgame.

We can also expect more SDCC 2019 LEGO exclusives to be revealed anytime soon, so be sure to turn on your notifications for the latest LEGO news and updates here on The Brick Show.

More Summer 2019 LEGO Movie 2 Sets Coming in August

After reporting on the new LEGO Minecraft sets slated to arrive this August, the Dutch online version of the LEGO Catalog for July-December has revealed that there are more summer 2019 LEGO Movie 2 sets coming from the brick pipeline. To be exact, there are three new TLM2 sets that were featured in the catalog, one of which I’m looking forward to having. Let’s check this out.

The LEGO Movie 2 Wyldstyle’s Starfighter (70849)

It’s quite obvious that LEGO still has plenty of room for more LEGO Movie 2 sets, with additional builds slated for release during the second half of the year. First off, we have this sleek Wyldstyle’s Starfighter (70849) with minifigures of Lucy (sporting her natural hair), Sweet Mayhem, an alternate version of Emmet sporting his new vest, and Rex Dangervest donned with turbo blasters. The starfighter’s design is pretty straightforward, with its nicely curved wings giving it a streamlined look.

Summer 2019 LEGO Movie 2 Sets

The LEGO Movie 2 Good Morning, Sparkle Babies (70847)

I have to say that this is one set that most fans will grab just because of those tiny, cute Sewer Babies. Of course, they don’t look grouchy and grumpy any more thanks to the sparkle and shine and good vibes spread by Lucy and Emmet. The choice of color and print on these glitter babies is simply spot on and is a great addition to the LEGO Movie 2 Accessory Set (853865). Minifigures included in these set are Emmet and Lucy, and two Sparkle Babies.

The LEGO Movie 2  Systar System Party Team (70848)

This next set definitely tops my list. I just have to admit it – most of us are looking forward to having this Party Benny, with his dual-molded legs and star-studded glasses accessory. I’m also curious about how this version of Unikitty manages to have a scarf accessory wrapped around her neck. It looks like this one is made of a soft wire wrapped with a fur-like material.  Metalbeard is also up and ready to party as a one-man band to get everyone up and dancing.

Summer 2019 LEGO Movie 2 Sets

I’m certainly looking forward to seeing these summer 2019 LEGO Movie 2 sets, particularly on having that Party Benny minifigure. We don’t have specific, product descriptions for these sets as of this posting but once we do, I’ll update this article. For the meantime, be sure to check out these other recent LEGO Movie 2 sets now available on discount via Amazon and at shop.LEGO.com.

Check Out this LEGO Jurassic Park: T. rex Rampage Designer Video

LEGO has just released a designer video for the recently announced, and massively great, LEGO Jurassic World Jurassic Park: T. rex Rampage (75936) set. This 3,120-piece behemoth was designed by Mark Stafford in collaboration with graphic designer Casper Glahder. Watch their designer video below to know more about how this set was developed.

Jurassic Park: T. rex Rampage

Truth be to told, the initial reaction to this set when leaks first came out was somehow mixed, with some LEGO fans pointing out the glaring similarities that it has with a LEGO Ideas project that previously reached 10K support back in 2015. As you may notice, the LEGO Ideas project Jurassic Park by senteosan bares a striking resemblance to this T. rex Rampage (75936) set, less the jeep and a smaller dino for this matter.

lego ideas jurassic park

To weigh in on the issue, the LEGO Ideas design team have released a short statement explaining their side of the story and regarding the apparent similarities between senteosan’s creation and that of LEGO’s recent set. I’m still hoping for the rumored Jurassic Park Visitor Center though, but still the T. rex Rampage (75936) set is still impressive on its own.

Although the new 75936 Jurassic Park T-Rex Rampage set shares similarities in design to the LEGO Ideas submission “Jurassic Park” by senteosan, this model was developed entirely internally by a team of LEGO Designers who create great new sets that kids and adult fans alike are passionate about. The basis of their model was a large, grey, brick-built T-Rex created by LEGO Designer Mike Psiaki in 2012 when he joined the LEGO Group and from there the model evolved by including the iconic Jurassic Park gates to add additional building experience and value for “Expert” builders.

In our desire to continue to allow LEGO Ideas members to submit product ideas based on third-party licenses, we have in the LEGO Ideas guidelines acknowledged the fact that there may occur unintentional overlaps between products being developed internally by our design teams and those submitted by fans via LEGO Ideas. This is simply because great minds think alike sometimes, especially when basing designs on popular licenses of movies, TV shows, vehicles, buildings and more, with whom we either already collaborate with or who fit the LEGO brand values for potential future collaborations.

A Glimpse At The New LEGO Star Wars D-0 Droid

After the official reveal of the LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga video game a couple of days ago, LEGO has finally given us a glimpse of the minifig version of their newest droid in town. We’re still 6 months away from the release of the last film installment in the 9-part Star Wars Skywalker saga, but this doesn’t stop LEGO from showing us the cutest droid that will follow the likes of BB-8 and R2-D2. From the way it seems, it definitely shows that the new LEGO Star Wars D-0 will be taking brick fans by storm.

LEGO Star Wars D-0
D-0 from Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker as revealed during Star Wars Celebration 2019.

D-0 made his first appearance alongside BB-8 in the teaser trailer for Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker released last April. He then made his first live, public appearance at this year’s Star Wars Celebration held in Chicago. We can very much expect that D-0 will be included in the next wave of LEGO Star Wars tie-in sets later on. Check out the following video where this latest droid is introduced to throngs of Star Wars fans.

Similar to BB-8, this LEGO version of D-0 also comes in as a single-mold minifigure. Though I feel that this video game version of D-0 is closer to his intended LEGO form, the actual minifig may have slight variations, the same way BB-8 appears in many LEGO Star Wars sets. Needless to say, I’m excited to see how this new droid will fare once additional info comes out about the LEGO Star Wars Rise of Skywalker sets sometime in August or September.

For the meantime, I would like to share this excellent LEGO Star Wars D-0 MOC created by hachiroku24. He was even kind enough to share at his YouTube channel how he built this awesome creation, including the LEGO pieces that he used. Check out his video below.

LEGO Minions The Rise of Gru Sets Coming in 2020

In an earlier Tweet today, the LEGO Group dropped another teaser in line with its new licensed theme based on a cinematic spinoff. After revealing the arrival of LEGO Trolls sets in 2020, LEGO is now partnering with Illumination to come up with the upcoming LEGO Minions The Rise of Gru sets also slated for a 2020 release date.

Illumination’s The Rise of Gru is based on the Despicable Me franchise, and a sequel to their successful 2015 animated film, Minions. The title of this latest film offering suggests that this may be an origin film of sorts, showing us how Gru eventually landed with or rather found, by these yellow guys. I’m not really a fan of Minions, but I’m interested to see how they’ll end up as minifigures.

But truth be told, and as exciting as it may seem to see a Minions sequel, LEGO fans on social media were quite frank about their displeasure on the thought of having such sets. This is understandable given that a LEGO Minions theme doesn’t sound well with the older LEGO fan community, but caters more to young children who often adored these little yellow capsules, and their weird and hilarious antics.

However, the silver lining in the cloud is the fact that since LEGO now has a working relationship with Illumination to provide tie-in sets, the possibility of seeing LEGO Super Mario licensed sets is now closer to reality. Earlier in February this year, Nintendo has announced that it is partnering with Illumination to produce an animated film based on the Super Mario series. Fans have long clamored for Nintendo-themed LEGO sets, and it now seems that this LEGO-Illumination partnership may provide the way. For the time-being, Build Better Bricks are offering premium custom LEGO builds inspired by the Super Mario franchise. You may want to check out what they’re offering by following this link.

There is no actual release date announced yet for these LEGO Minions the Rise of Gru sets, but we can somehow expect a June 2020 window – a month before the film’s release date of July 2, 2020. So what do you think of a LEGO Minions licensed theme? Are you happy with LEGO’s decision in including this to its brick repertoire? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Warner Bros and TT Games To Announce a New LEGO Video Game at E3 2019

It’s kind of hard to miss the fact that LEGO is on a roll as far as developing video games are concerned. After the announcement of two LEGO mobile games namely the LEGO Legacy: Heroes Unboxed and LEGO Tower, it seems that a new LEGO video game is about to make its debut by next month. To be launched across multiple gaming platforms, the news was announced by long-time partner Warner Bros and TT Games, and the timing of the reveal couldn’t be better – the new mystery video game will be revealed just in time with this year’s E3 which will happen in Los Angeles, California from June 11 to 13, 2019.

The news was shared by Playstation fan site, Pure Playstation. Though the gaming titans made it clear that they will be a launching a new LEGO-inspired video game at E3, WB and TT Games are still mum on what this will be. There are likely candidates though, and the signs seem to point to a new LEGO Star Wars game since it has been almost three years since we had the LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens video game. And now that the Skywalker saga is about to come to an end with the final Star Wars installment, Rise of Skywalker, perhaps now is the best time to finish this gaming installment as well.

New LEGO Video Game

If you recall, TLG tends to gravitate towards completing its licensed video game sagas, similar to the movies and franchises they were based on. We have a LEGO Incredibles video game that features content based on the first and second films. The LEGO Marvel Collection likewise features all three previously released LEGO Marvel video games: LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, LEGO Marvel Avengers, and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2. And of course, we can’t leave out the LEGO Harry Potter Collection combining all seven years of Potterlore in two convenient discs. Needless to say, now is the time for that long overdue LEGO Star Wars video game follow-up. Come to think of it, it was also in the month of June when the LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens video game was released, and it was in 2016’s E3 when the game was first introduced.

As much as I would like to see a LEGO Star Wars Video Game Collection, I have to say that all of this is just speculation from my part until such time that we actually hear from LEGO during next month’s  Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). For the meantime, we just have to patiently wait for the next two weeks. Thanks to Brick Fanatics for the tip.
