Amazon UK’s Free LEGO Gift Sets, Good Until December 19th.

LEGO buyers and collectors in the UK may be pondering the reality that one of the brand’s major retail outlets is being reduced, now that Toys ‘R’ Us is closing a number of its stores in that country. This development however is inspiring other outlets to take advantage and make the most out of it.

In what could be an effort to attract LEGO shoppers who would lose access to a closing Toys ‘R’ Us store near them, Amazon UK is launching a one-two punch combination of a promo for customers shopping for LEGOs on their platform. This is the ‘freebie for minimum purchase’ thing.

Their first offer is a free LEGO Batman Movie Catwoman Catcycle Chase (70902) set for a minimum £50 worth of any kind of LEGO products. Amazon stateside has already been offering the Catcycle Chase and other sets tied to The LEGO Batman Movie at reduced prices since way back in mid-November. Check the rest of the promo mechanics for these freebie right here.

70902 alt1

The other freebie is for fan-boys of The Force who would buy at least £40 worth of LEGO Star Wars sets; they’ll get a free LEGO Star Wars Imperial Trooper Battle Pack (75165). Both offers are good until December 19 only. UK buyers need only visit Amazon UK for details.

LEGO Star Wars Sand-Speeder (75204) Set Now Available to Order Stateside.

You’d recall last month that we covered how certain LEGO Star Wars sets that were supposed to come out early next year, 2018, had come out even earlier by showing up on Target. Apparently, since the cat is out of the bag now, LEGO’s decided to make it available officially.

By that we mean that (for US customers at first), the LEGO Star Wars Sand-Speeder (75204) set is now available in the listings at shop.LEGO.com. The new shipping date for this piece of merchandise that ties in with the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi film is on December 18.

75204 alt2

Speaking of the movie, none of the trailers that have come out thus far have hinted at a planetary location where the heroic Resistance might need to use Sand-speeders. There’s a question then if the vehicle is based on some other Star Wars media or simply a Snow-Speeder (75144) recolor.

The LEGO Star Wars Sand-Speeder (75204) comes with two Resistance minifigures, a (presumably) First Order desert droid, and blaster bolt props spring-fired from the vehicle’s cannons. No new international release date has been given for the set, but it’ll likely be a shared exclusive between Shop@Home and local retail chains.

lego star wars 75024 sandspeeder 2 e1512547651755

Star Wars: The Last Jedi comes out in US cinemas on December 15, three days before the shipping date for set 75204, which now joins several other LEGO sets based on the hotly-anticipated movie that will be coming out both before and at the heels of the film’s premiere.

Official Set Images for 2018 LEGO Duplo Sets Revealed

With the year coming to an end at last, there’s no better time for companies to start hyping up what they’ve got in store for their loyal customers next year, in 2018. That of course includes LEGO, and what images they have released of their 2018 sets, both original and licensed IPs, have blown fans away like they always do.

Now that many of the sets comprising regular-sized LEGO bricks have come out, it’s time now for LEGO’s Duplo brand to show off their latest upcoming treats for children of the 1½ -5 age range. Like their (smaller-sized) “big brothers” at LEGO, these Duplo sets also come in original flavors and licensed franchises; in the latter case, this batch has sets that Marvel and Disney fans will love.

The LEGO Batman Movie Collectible Minifigure Series 2 Now Officially Revealed!

This piece of news may have been floating around lately, especially considering that a leaked image of its checklist has surfaced as early as the first week of November. Nevertheless, nothing beats the crisp, clear images that LEGO has shared over social media regarding its highly anticipated LEGO Batman Movie Collectible Minifigure Series 2.

In case you missed it, check out these official images and the names of each of these characters. It is also interesting to note that like other CMFs or collectible minifigures, most of these sets also include a variety of new pieces, unique and sometimes odd looking dual-sided face printings, and a well-balanced number of Justice League heroes and Rogues from Gotham.

I am personally excited to have my try with the Swimming Pool Batman and Tropical Joker minifigs; and if you’re excited for these TLBM collectibles as much as we do, then better start practicing how to feel them inside their challenging blind bags once January 1 comes in. For the meantime check out these images courtesy of LEGO’s official Facebook account.

Inside Look at the Mechanics of Building the Shanghai Centre Tower on LEGO Architect Shanghai (21039) Set

While the official worldwide release of the LEGO Architecture Shanghai (21039) building set won’t be until January 1st of 2018, residents of the city in question will already have a head start in acquiring this superb example of brick building design. LEGO stores in Shanghai and in Shanghai Disneyland will have already started carrying set 21039 since Saturday, December 2.

640 1

To those who need a refresher, LEGO Architecture Shanghai (21039) replicates six well-known structures in the iconic Chinese port city. Four of them are veritable skyscrapers, the tallest of which is the unique Shanghai Centre Building with the twisting shape.

 Shanghai Tower 2015

If you’re curious as to how the twist of the Shanghai Centre Building was translated into interconnecting LEGO bricks, the mechanics were revealed online by builder NateV, who posted screenshots of the building process for the skyscraper, of which the real structure is the third tallest in the world, behind only the Tokyo Skytree and Dubai’s Burj Khalifa.

38111235284 03ea27593c b24954676458 f255c77037 b

LEGO Architecture simply needed to copy the building design for the Shanghai Centre Building, which are actually nine building segments stacked atop each other. As seen above, the ground-level structure is a base for support pillars wherein the flat blocks representing each of the 127 floors is then threaded and stacked. Every boundary of the building segment is represented by a light-colored brick.

24954676808 4ffc2f42ca b

After the floor blocks are stacked, the builder only needs to twist the structure to replicate the actual building.

24954677148 2e15930963 b

It’s an impressive mechanical design that will surely fire up the imaginations of anyone buying the LEGO Architecture Shanghai (21039) building set, whether in Shanghai now, or later globally at the start of the New Year.

Closer Look at First Four Days of LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar 2017 (75184)

Oh hey, December has started (last Friday), so for those who have fancied LEGO’s 2017 Advent Calendar sets, this one’s for you. If there are any who have actually not purchased the LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar (75184) set, then perhaps this feature might inspire you that it’s not yet too late to start.

The again, if the 75184 advent calendar isn’t in your buy list this year at all, then perhaps you can enjoy these photos of what lies in store for each day of December that comes until Christmas Eve on the 24th. Granted, it would’ve been accurate if this got started last Friday, but at least the inaugural countdown post will be meaty.

Day 1: The Ghost – The advent countdown by LEGO Star Wars this year starts with the main spaceship of the animated series Star Wars Rebels. The armed light freighter Ghost is the “baby” of Twi’lek Rebel leader Hera Syndulla, serving a mobile home base for the show’s small Rebel cell from Lothal. It was last seen chronologically in 2016’s Rogue One movie.

Day 2: Sabine Wren – For those who find Bobba Fett too antiheroic to root for, then here’s a Mandalorian fans of Star Wars Rebels can get behind: Sabine Wren. It does feel awesome to have someone from the bounty hunter world undoubtedly fighting the good fight.

LSWAC 02 03 235x300 LSWAC 02 04 235x300

Day 3: Phantom II – The Ghost is no warship by any stretch of the imagination. Thankfully it’s got the auxiliary Phantom II star-fighter shuttle. Much like the Ghost from Day 1, it’s a simple build that still matches the details of larger LEGO Star Wars sets well.

27028548989 7248ab1f3e b

Day 4: Blaster Cannon – For when handheld blasters aren’t enough, there’s a tripod-mounted big gun the post-Empire Resistance can bring to bear against the Imperial remnants of the First Order. It’s sure to get some screen-time in The Last Jedi this December. (That minifigure’s for a later day.)

75184 alt8

That about does it for now; watch this space for more lowdown on the other goodies left in the 24 Days of a LEGO Star Wars Christmas. The 2017 Advent Calendar (75184) is available now, along with similar mini-model-laden advent calendars from both the City and Friends lineups.

LEGO Marvel Superheroes Black Panther Sets Now Available for Pre-Order via Amazon!

Here’s another treat from Amazon. Last week, we saw the official images of the latest LEGO Marvel Superheroes Black Panther sets make their way online. This time, we are now given the chance to pre-order the sets as early as today, now that Amazon has released the Rhino Face-Off By the Mine (76099) and Royal Talon Fighter Attack (76100) for purchase, ahead of the film’s release on February 16. Click on the sets’ links above to know more about what Amazon has to offer.

What is interesting about Amazon’s listing is that it gives a bit of an info (without being too much of a spoiler) on what we can expect from some of the key scenes of the movie. We can now confirm that the rhino in set 76099 is actually a robotic one, and the crystals that it seeks to protect are actually made up of raw vibranium ore. The Royal Talon Fighter Attack (76100) on the other hand may hint at a certain capture mission against Ulysses Klaue and Killmonger where the latter is eventually captured and placed inside the Talon’s prison compartment. I guess based on the official trailer, this might eventually lead to Killmonger’s trial back in Wakanda.

Here are the rest of the LEGO Marvel Superheroes Black Panther sets’ official images, together with their product descriptions courtesy of Amazon. They are now both available for pre-order, and is slated for release on January 1, 2018.

LEGO Seasonal Year of the Dog (40235) Set Revealed – Building Instructions Now Available Online.

A few moments ago, I reported that LEGO has recently uploaded a new stash of building instructions for this month of December, including the last to be revealed LEGO Nexo Knights set, Lance’s Hover Jouster (72001). Brickset took the liberty of gathering them in one place so you can have a quick overview of what LEGO has made available on its servers. To our surprise, LEGO has also revealed its next seasonal, commemorative set to celebrate 2018’s Lunar New Year. This year, we saw the Year of the Rooster (40234) as 2017’s seasonal set, and for 2018, we have the Year of the Dog (40235) seasonal set to look forward to. Here’s how the set looks like based on its building instructions as uploaded by LEGO.

40235 1

Coming in at 155 pieces, it is interesting to note that since 2016’s Year of the Monkey (40207) seasonal set, LEGO seems to have been observing a common design for these Lunar New Year commemorative sets – each of them following a straightforward build, resting on a circular baseplate as pointed out by Brickfinder. Will this be a regular thing from LEGO? I guess only time can tell. The Year of the Dog (40235) may likely come as another LEGO Store promotional (a gift with purchase set) that comes with a minimum purchase amount of any LEGO set. I’ll give you updates as soon as more news comes in, and for the meantime, you may want to check out the parts list for this set below and see if you can build this little puppy using the LEGO bricks that you have.

Thanks you once again to Brickset for the tip.

2018 LEGO Nexo Knights Lance’s Hover Jouster (72001) Finally Revealed.

The latest 2018 LEGO Nexo Knights are now on sale both in-store and online at shop.LEGO.com. However, since the release of Season 5’s latest sets earlier in November, there is one set is noticeably missing from the reveals. With 5 out of 6 sets already unveiled, we still yet to see an image of Lance’s newest battle gear against the latest threat of tech infection – until today. Thanks to Brickset’s updated list of published instructions for this month of December, we now have an idea of how the LEGO Nexo Knights Lance’s Hover Jouster (72001) will look like. It’s kind of odd actually to see that the building instructions for this set are already available online, even before the official images are released. Nevertheless, it gives us a glimpse of this set as we can see from the image below.

scaled 72001 p1

Same as the rest of the sets in this wave of Nexo Knights sets, Lance’s Hover Jouster (72001) comes with two separate builds. The main build consists of the Hover Jouster, while the second one is a creepy looking version of a Cyberbyter, whose lower torso is made up spider-like robotic legs. Imagine Babyface from Toy Story and you’ll get the idea.

scaled 01 72001 p1 scaled 02 72001 p1

Frankly speaking, I’m expecting more from the Hover Jouster in terms of keeping with the aesthetics of the rest of the sets in this series. By far, this is the least appealing among the rest of this Nexo Knights subtheme, with the Hover Jouster looking more like a mobile turret rather than any particular type of vehicle as seen in the latest series. To create the build’s ‘hovering’ effect, the wheels below the Hover Jouster are cleverly hidden from sight using several 2×4 plates with brackets. The wheels also seem to pivot beneath the circular plates where they are attached. I believe the designers could have done better – perhaps even better than Season 1’s Lance’s Mecha Horse (70312) and the subsequent Lance vs. Lightning (70359) set. It gives me the impression that this set was designed hurriedly, without giving much thought on how it can fit to the overall feel of the latest series.

The set is not that all bad though, since one of the main selling points of these latest Nexo Knights sets are its impressive use of black and trans green parts to create the vehicles and other builds for the Cyberbyters. As I pointed out in my earlier post, the choice of color scheme for Knighton’s latest threat is a good call which gives the set a sort of revived interest for the classic LEGO Space theme particularly for the Blacktron series. The bionic looking, spider-like Cyberbyter in this set is also impressive in spite of its relatively easy build. My only criticism is that I wish the minifigure torso is resting on a rotating circular plate so it can turn from left to right as an added play feature.

The LEGO Nexo Knights Lance’s Hover Jouster (72001) comes in at 218 pieces and is expected to retail for $19.99. So what do you think about this set? Will you pick this up once it appears on toy shelves? Share what you think in the comments below.

More Details and Official Images of the LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi Ahch-To Island Training (75200) Now Up!

We’re just counting the days before Star Wars The Last Jedi debuts in theaters on December 15, and we can already feel the force of excitement building gradually each day. LEGO has also been steadily adding to the buzz with the reveal of its second wave of LEGO TLJ sets a couple of weeks ago. As we predicted earlier this year, we’ll be getting two particular sets that renders some of the noticeable scenes in the film’s official teaser trailer in LEGO brick form – the first being the continuation of where The Force Awakens concluded with Rey’s eventual encounter with the legendary Jedi, old man Luke Skywalker (Ahch-To Island Training 75200); and second, the  standoff between Resistance and First Order forces on the planet Crait (Defense of Crait 75202).

Swiss toy store World of Games has listed these sets for a December 27 release, almost two weeks after the film debuts on the 15th. However, those living in the UK and Ireland will seem to have a better end of the deal. Irish toy store Smyths, has recently updated their listing to include the LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi Ahch-To Island Training (75200) for an earlier release date, in fact, on the very same day that the movie will be released. According to Smyths’ website this particular set will be available to LEGO and Star Wars enthusiasts as early as December 15. Furthermore, the site has also included additional official images of the set which describes some of its play features as seen from the back side of its box art.

It is a no brainer to consider that the Ahch-To Island Training (75200) set will be a very hot item among fans because of the fact that currently, this is the only LEGO Star Wars set that you can grab the adorably blocky Porg (which was only available before with the UCS Millennium Falcon 75192), and the only set where you can have the minifig version of old man Luke Skywalker.

Here are additional images of set 75200, together with a brief description, courtesy of Smyths toys. The LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi Ahch-To Island Training (75200) set comes in at 241 pieces and will retail for $29.99.
