LEGO Ninjago Movie Ninjago City 70620 Now Available!

We saw the designer video and marvelled at its play features, and today the third biggest LEGO set ever made is now available for VIP members ahead of its general public release in September 1. The LEGO Ninjago Movie Ninjago City (70620) is now available for VIP purchase starting today, and considering the positive reviews and feedback that we see all over the internet, this is a fitting centerpiece set for the entire LEGO Ninjago Movie theme.

70620 1

Unlike the notorious unavailability of another highly popular set, the LEGO Ideas NASA Apollo Saturn V (21309), I hope there will be plenty of LEGO Ninjago City sets to go around for everyone, especially when the set goes on sale for the general public. Purchasing the Ninjago City (70620) over at shop.LEGO.com also comes with a free LEGO Ninjago Movie Kai’s Dojo Pod (5004916) and LEGO Iconic Cave Set (5004936) if you’re residing in the UK. I just hope that the former will also be available in regions other than Europe.

What LEGO Anniversary Sets Would You Like to See in 2018?

LEGO is now celebrating its 85th birthday this year, and as a sort of prelude of good things to come, it seems that 2018 will likewise be a great year, particularly for LEGO’s various classic and vintage themes. This piece of news (aka rumor) came from trusted LEGO insider and Eurobricks member Sir von Lego, with his take on what LEGO has in the works in line with the LEGO brick’s 60th anniversary next year.

According to Sir von Lego, there will be five specific sets to be released in commemoration of the iconic LEGO brick. He managed to have a glimpse of what the boxes look like at its early development stage, with all of them blacked out and without images as of the moment. However, what seems to stand out among these is a Creator-type box that looks exactly like a LEGO brick which is quite different from the usual. He also suggested that these five sets may also represent five different themes – which may, or may not represent vintage fan favorites such as Classic, Space, Castle, Town or Pirates. But of course, who wouldn’t want to see these sets again in all their classic glory?

It has been customary for LEGO to reboot some of its vintage sets, either as a free gift or accessory packs, such as the Classic Spaceman Minifigure (5002812), the Classic Knights Minifigure (5004419), and the Classic Pirate Set (850839) just to name a few.

5004419 1 5002812 1 850839 1

It is pretty exciting to see what TLG has in store for the 60th anniversary of the iconic LEGO brick. Perhaps a re-launch of one of these classic themes, or perhaps a D2C set centered around these vintage sets? We’ll cross our fingers as we wait for LEGO’s confirmation anytime soon.

Fan Designed LEGO Friends Heartlake City Playground 41325 Revealed!

Towards the end of December last year, LEGO ran a Friends Designer Contest where children ages 6 to 12 were encouraged to build a new place for the LEGO Friends cast to hang out in. The LEGO Friends MOC entry must depict a place in Heartlake City following the usual LEGO Friends design and elements. The Grand Prize winner will have the once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity of having his/her winning entry turned into an actual LEGO Friends set in collaboration  with LEGO’s master builders, plus a mini-doll representation of the winner himself/herself. Imagine the thrill of being immortalized as part of an actual LEGO set!

Earlier today, the winner has been finally announced and the official version of this fan designed LEGO Friends set has been revealed. Thanks to creative mind of 8-year old Sienna from the UK, we now have the LEGO Friends Heartlake City Playground (41325), complete with her very own mini-doll representation as included in the set. Here’s a bunch of fun facts about Sienna as revealed in the LEGO Friends Designer site.

Heartlake City Playground 41325 box front

Sienna has been turned into a mini-doll to be available in the winning product. How cool is that?

Name: Sienna
Age: 8
Lives in: London, UK with mom, dad and little brother, Austen.

Favorites:

Sport: gymnastics, rock climbing

Hobbies: LEGO® bricks, art, music, piano

After-school activity: ballet, Brownies (the Girl Guides – not the cakes!)

Food: chocolate

Color: turquoise

LEGO Friend: Mia

Five fun facts:

  • Sienna found ideas for the Heartlake City Playground from the playground near her house and other fun playgrounds and parks she has been to.
  • Heartlake City Playground has Sienna’s absolute favorite playground activity: a climbing wall! And another favorite: monkey bars!
  • Sienna’s brother brought a teddy bear everywhere when the family came to the LEGO headquarters in Billund. It was his school class teddy bear and it ended up as a model sticker!
  • Sienna’s mini-doll character has a brown pet dog named Pippa. It’s named after her grandmother’s new pet that she got for her birthday!
  • Sienna is always busy with school, after-school clubs, and spending time with her friends and family. To find time to build the playground, she used every minute of spare time she could find. She even shut herself in her bedroom for a full Saturday to build the playground and only came out for lunch and dinner!

Check out the official images of the Heartlake City Playground (41325), and Sienna’s submitted design courtesy of Heartlake Times.

Happy Birthday LEGO – Celebrating 85 Years of Awesome Building!

This month of August is a very special month for LEGO, since this year marks the 85th year of the world’s most trusted toy brand. In case you don’t know yet, LEGO began as a humble wooden toy factory in 1932 at Billund, Denmark and it was 14 years later in 1946 that the idea struck the creative mind of Ole Kirk Kristiansen to create toys made of plastic bricks. Three years later in 1949, the company saw the production of its very first plastic bricks with a very much different design from what we know today. It was not until 1958 that tubes were added inside the plastic bricks that radically improved the LEGO pieces’ clutch power, and thus giving us the LEGO brick’s iconic design. The rest as they say, is brick-built history.

To celebrate 85 years of creativity and imaginative play, LEGO has launched a social media campaign that captures the true meaning of the LEGO brand and what it ultimately stands for. You can follow the month-long celebration by keeping tabs with LEGO over at Twitter and Facebook, and sharing some of the moments that you have with a LEGO set or toy.

Also, back in 2012 when LEGO celebrated its 80th anniversary, the company released a short animated video that describes in detail how LEGO began as a humble wooden toy factory in the quiet town of Billund, and later to become the world’s largest toy manufacturer today. I’m reposting the video here for us to better appreciate the rich history of LEGO.

First Look at this Year’s LEGO Christmas Seasonal Set – The Town Square Christmas 40263.

A couple of weeks ago, we saw an early reveal of the LEGO Thanksgiving Set (40261) slated to be the next seasonal set right after November’s LEGO Seasonal Halloween Set (40260). Thanks to Eurobricks forum member Umbra-Manis, we now have our first look of this year’s anticipated holiday seasonal set – the LEGO Seasonal Set Town Square Christmas (40263). This year’s collection of LEGO seasonal sets follows a vignette form of design, and our holiday seasonal set for this year is exceptionally impressive within this category. Though the image is a bit grainy, we can manage to see some of the details on this seasonal set such as the nice build of the miniature Christmas tree with detailed railings around it, together with a neat lamp post, a sled, stand, and three minifigures. In terms of value for money, this seasonal set is a nice buy considering a price point of $9.99.

40263

The Town Square Christmas (40263) is a great addition to your LEGO decorative Christmas sets. Though the LEGO Christmas Ornament (5004934) was not that well received by LEGO fans design wise, having these two seasonal sets adorn your Christmas corner is a pleasure to behold.  We have no information yet on when this set will be officially announced and released, but a good guess will be sometime in late September or October.

Thanks to our friends over at Hoth Bricks for the tip.

WATCH: The LEGO Ninjago Movie Ninjago City 70620 Designer Video.

Last June, we saw the unveiling of the gigantically awesome – and third largest LEGO set ever created – The LEGO Ninjago Movie Ninjago City (70620). Slated be released to the public in 1st of September, this highly detailed D2C set consists of 4,867 pieces retailing at $299.99. We already saw Ninjago City’s (70620) official images last June, and this time, LEGO has shared a designer video for this awesome set which you can see below.

The level of detail and effort given by these designers to create Ninjago City is simply insane! I love how the set is built from the ground up following a modular approach along its 3-level structure. The set itself is not just a compact version of Ninjago City as seen in the trailers of The LEGO Ninjago Movie, but it also offers a tour of the different sights, sounds and stores of the bustling city. The designer video is presented in such a way that it follows Lloyd as he travels around the city, exploring all of its nooks and crannies. There are plenty of cool details and play features that come along with this set. It even has a printed collection of a translatable Ninjago language which is fun to decode using the Ninja Language Translator.

Here’s a complete description of what to expect from The LEGO Ninjago Movie Ninjago City (70620).

Watch What Happens When Master Builders Adam and Tyler Battle It Out In Our Latest LEGO Building Challenge!

If you enjoyed seeing Jason and Stephen go head to head with their hilarious LEGO Jurassic World Build Battle, then you’ll certainly have a blast seeing our next build battle featuring two of the coolest master builders around. Tyler is, without a doubt, one of the most creative and ingenious LEGO builders that we have here at The Brick Show, and this time, we’ll see how he’ll fair in a friendly brick-building competition against Adam Ward from SoulPancake’s Brick X Brick.

For this time-limited build challenge reminiscent of the Builder’s Lounge Iron Builder (though in a less serious tone), Adam and Tyler will be using pieces coming from the LEGO Creator 3-in-1 Mighty Dinosaurs (31058) set. The catch: they have to build a vehicle using this dino-themed LEGO set. What happens next is pretty funny. Watch this.

With building instructions flying in the air, the MOCs coming from the creative minds of these guys are simply awesome. I guess LEGO master builders are like minded in so many ways – with both Tyler and Adam coming up with a helicopter build as their creation of choice. Tyler creates a sort of a closer-to-life helicopter build with some play features added to its propeller, while Adam’s military-inspired build comes with a mean-looking tail propeller and armaments.

07 Tyler Adam 06 Tyler Adam

For the final challenge, both of them needs to create a micro build using the remaining pieces from the Mighty Dinosaurs set BUT using only one hand. Other than building their creations with a handicap, what is amazing is that for the second time around, both Adam and Tyler are in sync in thinking about creating a chair with their remaining LEGO pieces. Adam built a well-defined, three-legged chair while Tyler’s clever use of the set’s tentacle or ‘rib cage’ pieces rendered his version of a rocking chair quite daunting to build.

01 Tyler Adam Tyler Adam

In the end, it’s all about the fun in creating whatever comes to your mind and having a healthy dose of laughter at the same time. If you liked this LEGO building challenge from Tyler and Adam, be sure to check out the rest of their collaborative building ideas at SoulPancake where the two of them create the wackiest, brick-built critters and dinosaurs around using the LEGO Creator 3-in-1 sets Robo Explorer (31062) and Sunset Street Bike (31059) respectively.

Break the Spells of the Ocean with Tyler’s LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales Poseidon’s Trident MOC.

SPOILER ALERT:  If you haven’t seen POTC Dead Men Tell No Tales yet and won’t mind any major spoilers, go ahead and watch this awesome MOC from Tyler. Just don’t be upset with him, OK? So on with the show!

If you had a blast building Tyler’s previous LEGO POTC Dead Men Tell No Tales Caribbean Bank Heist MOC, then you’ll surely love this next wish set from our ace builder extraordinaire. One of the cliffhanger (or should I say a water wall hanger) scenes from the film, is when the teams of Capt. Jack Sparrow and Capt. Armando Salazar finally discovered the whereabouts of the mysterious Trident of Poseidon. With the ocean parted before them, the battle-hardened seafarers eventually go all out in their fight to possess the Trident. Tyler recreates this scene, and comes up with a very nice set that can easily pass as an official LEGO POTC set, and even better.

POTC Poseidons Trident 1

This latest POTC inspired creation from Tyler comes with several play features, consisting of roughly three builds. First off, we have walls of water recreated using blue translucent or transparent plates, surrounding a middle section. It’s typical of Tyler to add some cool details on these water wall builds such as the gray pieces that seems to stick out from the surface of the walls to recreate the effects of rock-like outcroppings as you see in the film (if you saw it already, that is).

03 POTC Poseidons Trident 2

The middle section of this MOC consists of a replica of the ocean floor, with several corals and aquatic fauna, and of course the fabled Trident of Poseidon. The coral section highlights Poseidon’s Trident which, if you take it out from its base, even breaks in two to break all the spells that binds the ocean.

05 POTC Poseidons Trident 2

There are also spots in the coral section where you can put the minifigure versions of Capt. Jack Sparrow and Capt. Armando Salazar as they battle it out to take possession of the Trident.

04 POTC Poseidons Trident 2

Tyler didn’t shy away from adding several details on the water wall such as a couple of sea weed elements, barnacles using 1×1 round plates, and the rock formations on the sides where you can even place a minifigure on top of it. The right side of the water wall also highlights plenty of play features such as a transparent Technic beam that suspends an anchor holding the minifig versions of Capt. Barbossa and Carina. I guess I will not say that much about the reason why they’re up there in the first place since it’s one of the film’s major story plots.

01 POTC Poseidons Trident 2

Here’s Tyler for more about our next LEGO POTC wish set.

If you like this latest brick-built creation from Tyler and would like to give it a try, then you’ll be glad to know that you can also build one of your own by simply heading over at BuildBetterBricks.com and over at eBay. For a minimal fee of just $3 (which also supports Tyler’s future MOCs and other insanely cool custom builds), you’ll get the full building instructions in PDF format, a Bricklink parts list, and a Stud.io file that allows you to easily export the parts list over at Bricklink.

Latest Images from Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi Released.

This piece of news is not entirely about LEGO, but knowing how the LEGO and Star Wars community are all set for the biggest movie of the year, then this is something that will definitely suit our fancy. Entertainment Weekly has just released a collection of new images from Star Wars: The Last Jedi that highlights some of the lead characters of the film, including a closer look at the latest Star Wars creatures to debut on the big screen once the movie lands in theaters on December 15.

These character images highlight Rey, Finn, Poe, Kylo Ren and some never-before-seen critters from the galaxy far away. Check these out.

Rey at the Jedi Temple Ruins In Star Wars 8

Rey is seen here probably at the start, or during her training at the Jedi temple ruins of planet Ahch-To, home to the self-exiled Jedi Master, Luke Skywalker. In case you missed it, Tyler created a LEGO Star Wars TLJ MOC that perfectly captures Rey’s training as Luke teaches her the ways of the Force.

Finn flying Resistance Ski Speeder in Star Wars 8

Finn is on board on a Resistance Ski Speeder on what seems to be the planet Crait. Based on The Last Jedi’s initial trailer, we saw several of these Speeders as they charge their way towards a confrontation with the First Order’s mammoth Heavy Assault Walkers. These Speeders (or Skimmers) were also perfectly recreated by Tyler which you can see here.

Poe Dameron in X wing In Star Wars 8

Poe is getting ready for another space dogfight as seen here in this image aboard his X-Wing fighter.

Adam Driver as Kylo Ren in Star Wars 8

Love him or hate him, Kylo Ren is definitely one of Star Wars most powerful characters – not just in terms of his affinity with the Dark Side of the Force, but also the despicable things that he has done. On a side note, it is interesting to see how this scarred image of Kylo Ren will render in LEGO minifigure form. We just have to wait and see until Force Friday arrives.

Supreme Leader Snoke Praetorian Guard

Star Wars never seem to run out of elite body guards and specialized warriors – and the film’s main antagonist, Supreme Leader Snoke, is not someone who will settle for anything less. We saw these guys already in their LEGO buildable character form (which we have to remove from the site eventually at the request of LEGO) and now we see them in their actual screen versions. Like any other elite units, these Praetorian Guards are tasked to protect Snoke at all means necessary, and the crimson red color just makes them more deadly serious about doing their task.

We also have a closer look at some other stills released by EW, which includes Kylo Ren’s TIE Striker, the plush, intergalactic casino at Canto Blight, and some particularly interesting critters – the Porg and the amphibious-looking Caretakers. It will be interesting to see if ever LEGO has them on the works as an actual set or as a part of its minifigure series.

Very First LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi Polybag – First Order Heavy Assault Walker 30497 – Spotted at a Local Retailer.

We’re still a few weeks away from Force Friday’s Star Wars’ bazaar, but it seems some local retailers are trickling away some LEGO Star Wars goodies.  A couple of days ago, we also reported how some online retailers managed to pull the veil off from the latest line of LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi sets, only to have TLG put it back again. This time around, another retailer decides to just throw things up in the air, and to put on display our very first LEGO Star Wars TLJ polybag set.

Brickset shares several images of what seems to be a miniaturized version of one of the LEGO Star Wars First Order Heavy Assault Walker (30497) polybag, reportedly found on display and for sale at a local Wal-Mart store in Ontario, Canada.  The polybag set comes in 54 pieces and was put on sale for $4.86. The funny thing is that its official store tag reads “Confidential SW Movie”, so I guess whoever puts them there on display at the store rack doesn’t really bother about such things.

090817 30497lastjedi lego starwars 30497 firstorder polybag1

Elsewhere, there have also been reports of several Star Wars toys and merchandise that have been displayed in some local US stores. If you look hard enough, perhaps you may manage to find some of these LEGO Star Wars TLJ boxed sets any time soon, especially considering that we’re now roughly three weeks away  before Force Friday officially kicks in. On a personal note, I appreciate the polybag trend, especially the ones that our mini replicas of the larger sets, such as those from The LEGO Ninjago Movie polybag line. Keep an eye out on these little goodies and please do let us know if you spot one at your local retailer. Thanks once again to Brickset for sharing these images.
