The LEGO Ideas Third 2020 Review Results Announced

After going through 25 product ideas, the LEGO Ideas Review Team has finally made its selection with the announcement of the LEGO Ideas Third 2020 Review Stage results. Among 25 product ideas that reached 10,000 supporters over at the LEGO Ideas website from September 2020 to January 2021, the review board is finally ready to share their decision.

The title and honor of becoming the next official LEGO Ideas set goes to the original creation of LEGO fan designer Sandro Quattrini (aka Roses Must Build), the LEGO Ideas Motorized Lighthouse. Though this is not the first time that LEGO offered a brick-built lighthouse, the LEGO Ideas Motorized Lighthouse will be the first to be featured on such a large scale with automated functionalities. Sandro’s original concept is to create the lighthouse up to 47 cm. tall, making it up to scale with nanofigures. It also includes Power Functions to make the base of the light brick rotate on top of the lighthouse. Watch the video demonstration below to have a better look.

As a LEGO Ideas fan, I am truly supportive of LEGO fan designers who took the time and effort of designing and promoting their original creations. Love it or hate it, the LEGO Ideas Motorized Lighthouse is no doubt a work of art and a testament to the ingenuity and skills of LEGO fan designers. It’s impractical to expect that everyone will be happy with the decision of the LEGO Ideas Review Board, but at the end of the day, the LEGO Ideas platform is a celebration of the talent and skills of LEGO fan builders and the overwhelming support that they receive from the community. So again, a huge congratulations to Sandro for this original creation.

Looking forward, the First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage is about to be wrapped up, with a record-breaking total of 57 entries being currently in review. The results of this review cycle are slated to be announced sometime this fall, and I’m pretty excited at what original creation or creations, will eventually be selected to become the next LEGO Ideas set(s).

And while waiting for these results, and if you haven’t done so yet, I suggest that you take a closer look at the recently offered LEGO Ideas Typewriter (21327). Heads Up! LEGO Ideas Third 2020 Review Stage Results Coming Soon

The LEGO Ideas blog has given us a pretty exciting update. Because we might as well count the hours before the LEGO Ideas Third 2020 Review Stage results are finally rolled out. The reveal is scheduled for June 22, 2021, at 3PM CEST.

If you recall at the start of this year, the LEGO Ideas platform kicked off 2021 with 25 qualifiers that managed to enter the LEGO Ideas Third 2020 Review Stage. And now after six months of careful consideration, the results of these careful deliberations are ready to be announced in public.

To make the announcement even more exciting, the LEGO Ideas Team is also giving away a LEGO Ideas FRIENDS Central Perk (21319) set signed by its fan designer Aymeric Fievet. You simply need to comment and share on the LEGO Ideas blog site on what product idea do you think will have the honor of being the next official LEGO Ideas set. One random winner will then be selected from those who guessed correctly. The deadline for sending in your comments will also be on June 22, 3PM CEST right before the program starts.

LEGO Ideas Typewriter (21327) Now Available for Early VIP Release

Just a quick heads-up: for those of who you are eagerly waiting for the arrival of the LEGO Ideas Typewriter (21327), then you’ll be glad to know that the set is now available for early VIP release starting today, June 16th.

Coming in at 2,079 pieces, the LEGO Ideas Typewriter retails for $200 and is the brainchild of LEGO fan builder, LEGO Ideas 10K member, and former LEGO Masters UK 2017 champion Steve Guinness. The set itself was also inspired by a bit of LEGO history since The LEGO Group’s founder, Ole Kirk Christiansen is fond of using his sand green Erika-10 typewriter back in the day.

As a brainchild of LEGO Ideas fan designer Steve Guinness, this latest LEGO Ideas offering features some of the ingenious ways of combining LEGO Technic and System elements from a technical perspective. Its functional key mechanisms are quite impressive because there are a total of 31 keys that you can actually press. These keys interact with the working type bar, brick-built carriage, and platen roller to give that authentic nostalgic feel of using an actual typewriter. Aesthetically, the choice of giving it a sand green color scheme was inspired by the office instruments used by LEGO Group founder Ole Kirk Christiansen. The LEGO Ideas Typewriter was actually based on the classic Erika-10 typewriter that once occupied the desktop space of the venerable founder.

LEGO Ideas Typewriter (21327) Officially Revealed!

After releasing a teaser earlier this week, LEGO has finally revealed the nostalgic and elegant LEGO Ideas Typewriter (21327). From the creative mind of LEGO fan builder Steve Guinness from the UK, this next LEGO Ideas set pays tribute to one of the iconic office tools that are close to the heart of LEGO Group founder Ole Kirk Christiansen.

The LEGO Ideas Typewriter (21327) comes in a sand green color scheme and mirrors the functions and tactility of a classic typewriter. There’s also a center typebar that rises each time a letter key is pressed, while its carriage actually moves across as you type. It also includes a platen roller that real paper can be fed into. There’s no mention of an optional Powered Up function similar to the Grand Piano (21323), so I guess LEGO intends to retain the Typewriter’s classic look and feel on this one.

As a fan-submitted entry by LEGO fan builder Steve Guinness over at the LEGO Ideas platform, this brick-built classic typewriter managed to win the approval of the LEGO Ideas Review Team during the Third 2019 Review Stage.

According to sources from brick street, the LEGO Ideas Typewriter is quite a hefty one, clocking in at 2,078 pieces making it the sixth-largest LEGO Ideas set in the theme. It is also rumored to come in a predominant sand green color, as opposed to being gray like how Steve intended it to be. I’m not quite sure about it, but it is also rumored that the choice of presenting it in sand green was influenced by the classic Erika-10 typewriter that Ole Kirk once used in the 1930s.

Erika 10 — The LEGO Ideas Typewriter 21327 may also follow a similar color scheme as that of the classic Erika-10 typewriter.

Additionally, with an expected retail price of $200, it may also suggest that the Typewriter may also feature certain Powered Up functions similar to what it did with the LEGO Ideas Grand Piano (21323). I just hope that this is an optional upgrade of sorts since I am already content with the original design’s working keytop and typebars without the added hardware.

The official release date of the LEGO Ideas Typewriter is also said to be slated for June 16 next week so it is expected that more info might come out this week after the initial teaser. Aside from the LEGO Ideas Typewriter (21327), we can also expect its contemporaries like the LEGO Ideas Home Alone: McCallister’s House and LEGO Ideas Seinfeld 30th Anniversary sets are already in their pre-production stages considering that these two product ideas were also approved to become official LEGO sets alongside the Typewriter. Hopefully will find more info about these before the end of the 3rd quarter.

LEGO Teases New Licensed Sets Slated To Be Revealed Soon

In case you missed it, LEGO released a couple of teasers over the weekend that hints at two upcoming LEGO sets based on existing licensed titles. Shared over its official Twitter page, these new LEGO licensed sets will most likely cater to adult fans of LEGO and will build on what its predecessors have offered before.

Both released in 2019, the LEGO Stranger Things The Upside Down (75810) and LEGO Ideas Central Perk (21319) are some of LEGO’s licensed sets that have the more serious LEGO collector in mind. The former is a form of collaboration with Netflix particularly in promoting one of its hit series Stranger Things, while the latter is a celebration of the F.R.I.E.N.D.S. TV series, one of the most popular sitcoms of our time.

21319 1 — The popular LEGO Ideas Central Perk (21319) released in 2019 will eventually be followed by another similar set.

75810 1 — And likewise, the LEGO Stranger Things The Upside Down (75810) will be followed by another mystery set that is a tie-in to the upcoming Season 4 of the Netflix franchise.

These teasers don’t say much about the kind of sets that we can expect from LEGO coming from these themes. The LEGO Stranger Things post is simply a brick/minifigure version of a clip from the series Season 4 trailer as you can see below.

The LEGO F.R.I.E.N.D.S. post is a reference to the gang set on a minifigure vignette of what seems to be their apartment. Well, to be frank, a quick search for #legoleaks will give you an idea about what to expect from this upcoming set. And from the get-go of this LEGO teaser, we can assume that the Central Perk set will be joined by another similar set highlighting their living quarters, and is a pretty large set for that matter.

We do not have an official reveal date for these but knowing how LEGO markets its new sets or these new licensed sets, in particular, we can surely expect an official reveal anytime soon. Check Out the First Qualifiers for the Second 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage

The First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage started on a high note with the announcement of yet another record-breaking 57 product ideas. And hot on the heels of this batch of qualifiers are the first product ideas that managed to enter the Second 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage.

The Movie Set by Castor-Troy, and Imperial Island Fort by 10K Club Member BrickHammer, are the two initial product ideas that gained the support of more than 10,000 LEGO enthusiasts, qualifying them to enter the Second 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage. The former features 8 facades and movie props that give your favorite movie that funny LEGO twist; while the latter takes its inspiration from the classic LEGO Pirates Eldorado Fortress (6276) from 1989.

The Movie Set product idea is a cool way to bring your minifigure filming up to a new level with its diverse selection of brick-built background props. And fans of the classic LEGO Pirates theme will certainly appreciate the Imperial Island Fort if perchance this MOC qualifies to become an official LEGO Ideas set, similar to its predecessor the LEGO Ideas Pirates of Barracuda Bay (21322).

Movie Set by Castor-Troy

The set includes 8 facades, movie props, and figurines, for a total of 2900 pieces. This creation is not based on any license. We made some visuals to suggest ideas of presentation and playability. The facades are 16 studs wide and include supports at the back that allows them to stand on their own, and to be combined at will. We focused on the aesthetics and design of the facades while making sure that the set offers a lot of possibilities and playability for the AFOLs :

For those who like to display their LEGO set, the Movie Set will be an optimal choice, as it makes optimal use of pieces for that purpose
The set can be used to reproduce scenes from cult movies by combining the different facades,
For those who like to take pictures or make brickfilms, the set would make a great background scenery
You can make a tracking shot with your smartphone over 1 meter long, thanks to a cart specially designed for that purpose,
For those who have a LEGO city, the Movie Set would make a very nice background

Imperial Island Fort by BrickHammer

The Idea

Since I was a child I have been a big fan of pirates and the old pirate Lego theme! Now as an adult I am still an avid fan of history! This small island fortress is therefore supposed to be a blend of nostalgic classic Lego red coat fortresses like the Eldorado Fortress and actual real-life Caribbean architecture!

The Build

The island consists of a big main castle on top of a rocky cliff and a pier beneath it. The castle contains a gatehouse tower and the governor’s house!

The pier beneath the castle is fortified with 2 cannon bastions to guard the island from incoming pirate ships or Armada attacks!

About 1500 pieces.

Record-Breaking 57 Product Ideas Qualify for the First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review

They just keep on coming, and I love it! The LEGO Ideas fan submission platform has just concluded with another record-breaking high, with a total of 57 product ideas qualifying for the First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review stage, as announced over their blogsite. These 57 submissions managed to get the necessary 10,000 fan votes needed to progress for this year’s first LEGO Ideas review.

Since the start of the pandemic, the LEGO Ideas platform saw a steady increase of fan submissions, largely as a result of increased LEGO building at home. As I’ve mentioned before in a previous related article, this is a testament to how LEGO building as a hobby, turned out to be a positive outlet for most LEGO fans as we strive to cope with the series of lockdowns and stay-at-home orders.

I’ve always been a fan of LEGO Ideas, and I’ve covered and supported some of its fan submissions that eventually found their way to becoming official LEGO Ideas sets. And I also intend to continuously cover every LEGO Ideas fan submission that reaches that 10K support milestone. However, the recent influx of review stage qualifiers is just kind of hard to keep track of! I guess I just have to double down on keeping them on my radar. It will always be a pleasure to see the creativity of the LEGO fan community spring into life, so be ready with the scroll wheel because this will be a very lengthy list.

Additionally, it should be mentioned that there was a particular fan submission that didn’t make the cut even though it managed to reach 10,000 supporters. The Stadium Tour did not eventually qualify for the First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review because it failed to follow the platform’s stipulated guidelines, particularly on “intellectual properties”.

As a last note, the Third 2020 LEGO Ideas Review Stage is about to be concluded, with the announcement of the winner slated to happen sometime this summer. We have to wait a lit bit more to see which among the 25 qualifiers in this particular review stage will go on to become an official LEGO Ideas set. LEGO Ideas The Adventures of the USS Cardboard is Our Next LEGO GWP

Several weeks ago, the LEGO Ideas platform has launched another contest that tapped into the collective creativity of the LEGO fan community. Dubbed as the Out of This World Space Build Contest, the contest managed to pool 15 finalists vying to become LEGO’s next gift-with-purchase (GWP) set. And after the votes were finally tallied, the honor of being the next LEGO GWP has now landed to the upcoming LEGO Ideas The Adventures of the USS Cardboard.

Similar to its predecessor the LEGO Vintage Car (40448), the LEGO Ideas The Adventures of the USS Cardboard was a fan-submitted entry that managed to gather the highest number of votes (2,869 votes to be exact) among the LEGO fan community and will eventually become an official LEGO set.

Designed by LEGO fan builder bulldozer (aka Ivan Guerrero), the LEGO Ideas The Adventures of the USS Cardboard is Ivan’s playful take on his fond memories of ‘space adventures’ with his brother when they were children. Another fun fact in case you don’t know yet, Ivan Guerrero is also the LEGO fan designer behind the LEGO Ideas 123 Sesame Street (21324). Pretty neat right?

As a fan of minifigure vignettes, I personally voted for this entry and was sincerely looking forward to seeing this become an official LEGO set. The vibrant color scheme, the child-like wonder that the set evokes, surely hits all the nostalgic strings of childhood fun and awe. Plus, the story behind Ivan’s creative process speaks close to everyone’s heart – childhood innocence and a sense of wonder and adventure all wrapped up in close family ties make this set an absolute winner. Plus the fact that it appeals to LEGO’s classic Space theme really hits the sweet brick spot.
