“LEGO Marvel Super Heroes” Nintendo Switch Port Has Launched

In 2013, Traveller’s Tales and WB Interactive released the latest title in their LEGO-themed videogames. “LEGO Marvel Super Heroes” was the first Marvel-licensed LEGO videogame made in the wake of the MCU’s cinematic rise. True to form with its sister titles, “LEGO MSH” went with a wide multiplatform release on PC and consoles. It would even get a direct sequel in 2017 (and an MCU Avengers spinoff a year earlier). Back in August LEGO, WB Games and TT hyped old fans with the announcement of a Nintendo Switch port. The wait is over and that promised release has finally come.

The Brick Fan reports that “LEGO Marvel Super Heroes” is now available for the Nintendo Switch as of October 5. From the official WB Games press release, the title brings back the 2013 game and its two DLC updates. Players can once again control up to over 100 Marvel characters in their LEGO-fied comic-book iterations. From the Avengers to the X-Men, Fantastic Four to solo heroes, these Marvels come together in an original adventure. Cosmic-level threats converge on the LEGO Marvel world, from Doctor Doom and Loki to Galactus. The various heroes must unite to protect Earth from impending brick-destruction.

“LEGO MSH” on the Switch already comes with DLCs “Super Pack” and “Asgard Pack.” The latter would bring relevant characters closer to their MCU designs. This aesthetic shift would carry over to “LEGO Avengers” (2016) and “LEGO MSH 2” (2017). The latter would also get a first release on the then-new Nintendo Switch hybrid system. If you missed the original and have a Switch, pick up “LEGO Marvel Super Heroes” now. It’ll tide you over until “LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga” arrives in 2022.

Rumors of New LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Sets Apparently Due Next Year

Now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is moving again, screening- and streaming-wise, LEGO’s got some new Marvel sets waiting. At least that’s the rumor according to The Brick Fan, after they noticed more listings on Brickmerge.de. The German LEGO price comparison site apparently has listed at least nine Marvel-themed items arriving in 2022. They have some (semi-descripitive) names, but not all of these are even MCU tie-ins. Three of these have “Classic” in their name. It’s possible they may depict Marvel characters outside of their MCU portrayals. But we’ve talked long enough. Here are those LEGO Marvel sets Brickmerge mentions:

  • Spider-Man’s Techno Trike (10781) – €9.99/$11.71
  • Hulks and Rhinos Truck Duel (10782) – €19.99/$23.43
  • Spider-Man in Doc Ock’s Laboratory (10783) – €29.99/$36.15
  • Spider-Man’s Headquarters (10784) – €49.99/$58.59
  • Marvel Avengers Classic (Set A?) (76202) – €9.99/$11.71
  • Marvel Avengers Classic (Set B?) (76203) – €9.99/$11.71
  • Marvel Spider-Man (76204) – €9.99/$11.71
  • Marvel New Theatrical (MCU?) (76205) – €29.99/$36.15
  • Marvel Avengers Classic (Set C?) (76206) – €39.99/$11.71

All suggested retail prices in dollars are direct conversions.

There are also six “LEGO Super Hero” sets listed on Brickmerge’s database without descriptor names. We’ve decided not to include them in case the Super Hero characters they depict are from DC. The three Marvel Avengers “Classic” sets above are very interesting in their labeling. One should see distinct differences in how Marvel Super Heroes look between their iconic comic-book and MCU selves. We can’t help but wonder what they’ll be like. But we digress. Even when listed in Brickmerge, we must treat these set numbers as rumors until LEGO confirms/debunks them.

LEGO Marvel Superheroes Black Widow Taskmaster’s Ambush (77905) Now Up at Amazon

In case you missed it, there is another SDCC 2020 inspired set that is out there aside from that of the LEGO DC Wonder Woman (77906) and the yet to be released LEGO Star Wars Nebulon-B Frigate (77904). The cancellation of this year’s largest comic book convention has led LEGO to offer these limited edition sets online either through Amazon or LEGO Shop@Home. And this time around, Amazon seems to have the last say when it now offers the LEGO Marvel Superheroes Black Widow Taskmaster’s Ambush (77905).

Black Widow Taskmaster's Ambush (77905)

Based on the upcoming MCU spin-off of the Black Widow (the film has been eventually rescheduled for an April or May 2021 release due to the pandemic), this LEGO version of the Taskmaster’s Ambush (77905) comes in at 230 pieces and was initially offered via Amazon for $40. However, due to the high demand for such exclusive collectibles, this particular set now sells for as high as $135.

Black Widow Taskmaster's Ambush (77905)

The set also follows the familiar SDCC stylized box art featuring a comic book version of Natasha Romanov’s Black Widow. The set itself also features an exclusive minifigure variant of the Black Widow, and our first ever minifig rendition of the Red Guardian. The Taskmaster minifigure that comes with the set is not unique though since this particular character already appears in the LEGO Marvel Superheroes Black Widow’s Helicopter Chase (76162), less the hoodie.

Black Widow Taskmaster's Ambush (77905)

If you’re still eyeing this limited edition LEGO Marvel Superheroes Black Widow Taskmaster’s Ambush (77905) despite the somewhat bloated price, then you still have a chance of getting one. It’s still unclear if this set will make an appearance over at LEGO Shop@Home same with the now out-of-stock LEGO DC Wonder Woman (77906), but when it does, I’ll update this article and keep you in the loop. For now, check out the following product description of the Taskmaster’s Ambush (77905) as posted via Amazon. If you wish to have a detailed look at this set, then Brickset’s Jacob Lyman did an excellent review that you might be interested in.

LEGO Super Mario

And of course, LEGO obviously has more plans for its latest collaboration with Nintendo. In 2021, we can expect another series of Character Pack similar to its LEGO Super Mario Character Pack Series 1 (71361)

The names of these upcoming LEGO sets under the Super Mario theme are understandably kept under wraps, but from the looks of it, we can expect a new Starter Course set, 3 Expansion Sets, 2 additional Super Mario costumes, or Power-Ups, and another series of Character Packs. The Starter Course Set 2 is quite interesting and we’ll have to see how this will turn out.

LEGO Harry Potter

Rumor has it that the LEGO Harry Potter theme will receive its Disney-like series of Storybook Adventures, but in this case, based on the various classrooms of the iconic Hogwarts Castle. LEGO Star Wars

Yeah, I know it may sound redundant already but hey, the Millennium Falcon still holds a special place in LEGO Star Wars fandom. As proof of that, we can expect another LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon Microfighter similar to what we have in set 75193 to be part of a repertoire of upcoming LEGO sets.

75307 18+ Helmet Series: ??? (??? pieces, €69.99)

This is an exhaustive list though since we can still expect plenty of new information to come in as we approach the last quarter of this year. However, since LEGO is quite mum about these things, for now, I highly suggest that we consider all of these things for the rumors that they really are for the time being. Unless we hear LEGO’s official press release and product reveal regarding its upcoming LEGO sets, then let’s take this piece of news with a healthy amount of salt.

WATCH: LEGO ART Marvel Studios Iron Man (31199) Designer Video

Whether you’re a newbie in the LEGO hobby or a veteran AFOL, LEGO’s latest adult-focused theme has something to offer that will inspire the creative person in you. After officially unveiling its LEGO Art theme earlier this month, LEGO has now released an accompanying designer video that gives us an inside look at the creative inspiration behind one of its offerings. Check out the LEGO ART Marvel Studios Iron Man (31199) designer video below.

LEGO Designer Chris Stamp shares with us the inspiration and design process that goes with LEGO ART, particularly to that of MCU’s Iron Man. The LEGO Art Marvel Studios Iron Man (31199) allows you to recreate three particular versions of Iron Man as we remember him on the big screen, each of which somehow presents a particular milestone in the evolution of Tony Stark’s superhero persona. Set on a 48×48 frame, LEGO fans can choose to recreate the Mark 3 that appeared in the very first Iron Man movie. You can also opt to recreate a pixelated image of the Hulkbuster if you wish to memorialize Iron Man’s historic bout with the Hulk and their subsequent team-up as the world’s mightiest heroes in the form of the Avengers. And finally, as a fitting tribute to the ultimate sacrifice of the “genius, billionaire, playboy philanthropist” we all cried for in Endgame, the LEGO Design team saw it fit to have the Mark 85 as the final representative for the LEGO Art Marvel Studios Iron Man mosaic.

LEGO ART Marvel Studios Iron Man
You can choose to display all of the three different versions of MCU’s Iron Man as seen above. Bear in mind that you need to have three sets of the LEGO Art Marvel Studios Iron Man (31199) in order to do this.

As you may have known already, what is also cool about the LEGO Art theme is that you can combine several copies of the same set to recreate a larger, more impressive LEGO mosaic. You can combine three of these LEGO Art Marve Studios Iron Man and you can have an almost 4 feet long LEGO mosaic art that you can proudly display at home. The combined, three 15.5 inches panels recreate the ultimate Iron Man in an awesome, dynamic pose. You may also opt to display all three separate designs like a sort of a timeline that covers the significant events in MCU’s Iron Man.

Or you may opt to have a larger 4-foot panel using three same sets for that ultimate LEGO Iron Man tribute.

What builders may also find interesting about the LEGO Art theme are the new parts that come with them. There’s the new 16×16 brick that allows you to divide the LEGO Art set into 9 separate panels. Such design allows the builder to focus on one section of the set, without being overwhelmed by the rest of the details. There’s also a new and wider black brick separator (which looks cool by the way), designed specifically to remove 4 or 6 tile pieces at a time. Finally, there’s a new hanger piece which is basically a 3×5 panel with a pinhole that allows the completed set to be hung and displayed on a wall.

With the latest LEGO Art series, LEGO hopes that adult fans of the brick and those that are just starting in the hobby will be able to appreciate what this series has to offer – a sort of a creative break, especially during these trying times.

The LEGO Art Marvel Studios Iron Man (31199) will be released on August 1 and will be joined later on in September by other cool selections of pixel-brick arts such as Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe (31197), The Beatles (31198), and Star Wars The Sith (31200).
