Details Out on LEGO Promo for Easter Seasonal Chicken Skater Pod (853958)

While the LEGO “Avengers: Endgame” tie-in polybag we just discussed looks to be available conventionally in Wal-Mart, another recently-introduced poly will actually be a promotional item as they’re wont to be. It’ll probably be the catch too, as a seasonal minifigure in a different package than the usual “hut” box.

By that we mean the LEGO Seasonal Chicken Skater Pod (853958). If you will recall, it’s a chicken-suit guy with roller-skate elements, and a pod with a garden and a skating rabbit. It’s easily one of the quirkiest seasonal products yet announced. LEGO might even be testing to see if they’ll make seasonal pods permanent.

That said, LEGO’s finally announced the promo details for this special poly. Starting Friday, April 5 to the 22nd, LEGO Seasonal Chicken Skater Pod (853958) is available free for any minimum LEGO purchase of $35. This applies to LEGO Store purchases and online on Shop@Home.

Having that last bit of information is quite helpful as there have been Shop@Home-only and store-only promos in the past. Now we can get this singular seasonal polybag from the best of both worlds. Maybe it’ll be a nice one-off thing or the first of something new that collectors can feel proud having one of.

Wal-Mart Carrying “Avengers: Endgame” Tie-In Polybag – Iron Man and Dum-E (30452)

When LEGO reveals polybags tying into major themed releases with box sets, we tend to assume the polys are promotional. So when a LEGO Marvel polybag with an “Avengers: Endgame” theme was revealed on the heels of the movie tie-in announcements, we began waiting for a promo date and the minimum purchase needed for it.

We can probably stop waiting and start combing Wal-Mart stores now. They’ve started stocking their shelves with the LEGO Avengers: Endgame Iron Man and Dum-E (30452) polybag. First revealed on social media last month, we now know a bit about the story behind Tony’s suit.

For those who have seen the latest “Endgame” trailer, we see the surviving Avengers and other heroes dressed in this uniform white-and-black ensemble. It might serve as a sign of solidarity considering how much they’ve already lost to Thanos. This has yet to explain why the Dum-E robotic arm is in the 30452 poly though.

If you need a refresher, Dum-E was prominently featured in the first “Iron Man” film. You’d remember his as the foam-sprayer during Tony’s Mk-II armor tests, and helped created the new arc reactor element in the sequel. What’s he going to be doing in “Endgame”? We’ll learn on April 26.

Seeing as this is a poly, Iron Man and Dum-E (30452) will take effort to track down with all the Wal-Mart stores about. Not all of them might be carrying it too. Interested collectors would have to be upfront in asking the store staff if they’re carrying this $3.99 polybag.

LEGO Ideas Releases Steamboat Willie (21317) Designer Video

As its release nears, fans waiting for the LEGO Ideas Steamboat Willie (21317) must be hearing whistling in their heads. Indeed, Mickey Mouse’s whistling ditty from the 1928 short is looping in this writer’s head as the anticipation builds. Disney fans who appreciate the classics can’t say no here either.

With the Steamboat Willie set (21317) arriving April 1, the time’s arrived for it to be documented, as major sets usually are, with an official designer video. To sell the iconic age of the media the set depicts, said video is in black and white, with characteristic dots and scratches.

LEGO designer John Ho, who led the team that created the final official version of the original Product Idea by Máté Szabó, talks about the set’s build. He draws attention to the internal mechanism wherein, when the steamboat is rolled along the floor on its concealed wheels, they in turn drive the side paddle wheels and the alternating twin smokestacks.

Collectors will definitely love the LEGO Ideas Steamboat Willie (21317) for its effective reference the original medium to make an attractive set despite being only in shades of black, white and gray. The mechanics involved also make interesting brick-building study.

Don’t forget that this Ideas set is averting April Fools’ Day by releasing this Monday. Collectors in Florida and Paris can even try going to their nearby Disney theme parks later this month if they want their Steamboat Willie (21317) sets signed by the creator.

Celebrate 80 Years of Batman with Anniversary-Edition LEGO Batman Sets

In 1939, the creative tandem of Bob Kane and Bill Finger created a new character for the flagship anthology series of Detective Comics Inc. Debuting in issue 27 on March (dated May on print), the Batman became a runaway hit character, and one pillar of its publishing company that would later be called DC Comics.

Eight decades have passed since then. Batman too and his supporting cast have been through plenty of characterization changes. But his core story – a victim of tragedy that became a crusader of justice – remains the same. It’s this 80-year legacy that’s being celebrated this year.

LEGO Ideas Announces Another Contest: The Greatest “Star Wars” Battles Built by You

Now surely, none of us have forgotten that 2019 is the 20th anniversary of the LEGO Star Wars product line. We’ve already covered the anniversary-edition sets for this year, but there’s more LEGO has in store. For instance, mere days after announcing a LEGO Ideas contest for their upcoming mobile game app, there’s now one for LEGO Star Wars too.

The theme for this LEGO Ideas contest is one of the most vital cinematic elements of the “Star Wars” franchise: big space-opera battles. From the ground-pounding encounters at Kasshyk, Hoth’s Echo Base and Endor, to the space dogfights of Coruscant and Yavin IV, all are celebrated in this building competition.

Interested contestants need only to recreate their favorite battle scene from any “Star Wars” film or TV show, whether in real LEGO bricks or through computer applications like LEGO Digital Designer. They must send their work, documented in only five images, to the LEGO Ideas contest page before May 3.

Soon-to-Open LEGOLAND Discovery Center in San Antonio Teases Miniland Area

Last December of year 2018, the soon-to-open new LEGOLAND Discovery Center in San Antonio promoted its opening date, set for next month, with a brick building exhibit. They featured a number of notable city landmarks, from the Tower Life Building to the Alamo. Three months after that preview, LDC San Antonio now teases the same LEGO structures in their Miniland.

In a sneak peek offered to the San Antonio Express-News, LEGOLAND Discovery Center – San Antonio’s general manager Jeremy Aguillen and marketing manager Chase Hathaway showcases the Miniland section of the indoor theme park, which will open two weeks from now at Shops at Rivercenter mall. The indoor family attraction is a joint project by LEGOLAND operators Merlin Entertainments from the UK and the New York-based real-estate investor Ashkenazy Acquisition Corp.

gallery_xlarge 5

The sprawling tabletop display is an idealized San Antonio in miniature, with the city’s downtown filled with famous buildings and locations, all populated with minifigures. The Tower of the Americas actually revolves its restaurant deck; canoes on the San Antonio River can be operated to cruise the waters, and the Alamo has minifig historical re-enactors.

gallery_xlarge 2

Other features of the LDC Miniland include lighting that change from day to night plus fireworks effects shown on the surrounding walls. Their building team will also periodically alter the display to reflect any special occasions and holidays happening in the real San Antonio outside.

Like its fellow LEGO Discovery Centers, the San Antonio one will have children’s rides, a 4D cinema for LEGO movies and various themed play zones for kids and their families. San Antonians can look forward to all these when Shops at Rivercenter opens their 3-floor LDC this coming April 12.

Lottery for Star Wars Celebration Exclusive Merch, Including Vader Bust (75227) Now Underway

Last week to the day, we announced how an exclusive LEGO set will be appearing at Star Wars Celebration Chicago. Big fans of the franchise will certainly adore a LEGO bust of Darth Vader (75227). But getting one involves chance because it and other merchandise must be won by lottery.

Seeing how “Star Wars” exclusive stuff during events can disappear like they just went into hyperspace, a lottery is sensible. Until the deadline of April 3 at 11:59 PM (CT), Star Wars Celebration attendees can enter the Exhibitor Exclusive Lottery through the event’s official page.

The important information that would-be participants of the lottery need is either the email they used to buy their Star Wars Celebration Chicago badges, or their badge purchase confirmation number. They must then enter the virtual line for the lottery where they can choose which item they want as soon as their turn comes up.

75227_Box1_v39

If a lottery item is won [hopefully it’s the LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Bust (75227)] then a confirmation and QR code is sent to the winner. These codes can be redeemed only once, and can be downloaded from either the website or the upcoming Star Wars Celebration mobile app.

LEGO Star Wars Vader Bust (75227) is worth $39.99, and outside of Star Wars Celebration Chicago will only be available on Target’s REDCard program. Target will release their limited-quantity Vader Busts on April 11, at the same time that the Star Wars Celebration kicks off.

Custom-Build Cool Cars with New Reference Guidebook: “How to Build Dream Cars with LEGO Bricks”

Just reading through our past articles here in The Brick Show will easily tell you that LEGO, and its fandom, love cars. The brand has a dedicated car theme in Speed Champions, and many of its Technic sets are speedy vehicles. Automobile love is plain in many best-selling LEGO lines.

If however, you’re interested in making brick-built cars outside of the established LEGO products, then this upcoming book is for you. Co-written by veteran LEGO book contributors, “How to Build Dream Cars with LEGO Bricks” will help its readers do exactly as the cover says.

ISBN1684125391-1

Mattia Zamboni (“Amazing Vehicles,” “Tiny LEGO Wonders”) joins forces with designer George Panteleon to present detailed instructions on how to assemble 12 sweet high-performance cars out of LEGO. These guides include LEGO-piece list, step-by-step illustrations, and even an info sheet of the cars in question:

  1. Bugatti Atlantic Type 57SC
  2. Corvette Stingray C3
  3. Datsun 240Z
  4. Dodge Charger R/T ’70
  5. Ferrari 458 Italia
  6. Ferrari F40
  7. Ford GT
  8. Ford Mustang GT Fastback ‘67
  9. Lamborghini Countach
  10. Pagani Zonda Cinque
  11. Porsche 911 Turbo
  12. Shelby Cobra 427 S/C

The resulting car builds are smaller than LEGO Speed Champions (can’t fit minifigure drivers) but are uncannily accurate in details and contours to their inspirations. Panteleon and Zamboni achieved that effect through the seamless mixing of traditional LEGO bricks with stud-less Technic parts.

“How to Build Dream Cars with LEGO Bricks” is a paperback reference book and is now available in both US and UK editions of Amazon for $13.38 and £15.26 respectively.

LEGOLAND Florida Opens LEGO Movie World

“The LEGO Movie 2” may have already concluded its theatrical run, but the franchise experience is only just starting. The best place to immerse oneself in the world of Bricksburg is in the LEGOLAND Resorts. In particular, LEGOLAND Florida has had the honor of getting the first LEGO Movie World themed area. Announced months ago, it finally opened this week.

As the song goes, “Everything is Awesome” as LEGOLAND Florida Resort finally opened the doors of LEGO Movie World to guests this Wednesday, March 27. Repurposed from the old “World of Chima” land, LEGO Movie World is easily LEGOLAND Florida’s biggest expansion, almost a theme park in and of itself.

86e0149f-9181-4fe0-8cd7-399e6fdf4b30-IMG_4064.jpg

Three rides dominate LEGO Movie World: Unikitty’s Disco Drop which is the tallest feature in the area, the Battle of Bricksburg splash ride-and-shoot, and the LEGO Movie Masters of Flight flying theatre ride. Minifigure characters from the films hang out there for meet-and-greets, while other amenities include the Taco Tuesday restaurant, a retail store, children’s play area and a performance stage where the opening program was held, with “Catchy Songs.”

Project director Kieth Carr of Merlin Entertainment’s “Magic Making” division, which designed LEGO Movie World, noted that the new area will serve as a game-changer.

IMG_1077.JPG

“The immersion and theming that we’ve incorporated into the area is unlike anything we’ve ever done,” Carr relates to Florida Today. “Our guests will have so much fun on all three rides, but the land’s marquee ride, The LEGO Movie Masters of Flight encompasses the only 180-degree turn on a flying theater in the world.”

Visit the LEGOLAND Florida Resort official website for more details, inquiries on tickets and special packages, and to actually book your future trip to experience LEGO Movie World for yourself.
