A Closer Look at the LEGO Star Wars DJ (40298) Minifigure Polybag.

Since the latest LEGO Star Wars collectible minifigure is now reportedly out in some parts of the world and over at Toys R Us stores, it is somewhat common that we now see this minifigure iteration of Benicio del Toro’s code breaker character in Star Wars: The Last Jedi strewn all over the Internet. The LEGO Star Wars DJ (40298) minifigure polybag is the next Star Wars collectible minifig in a similar vein such as that of the R3-M2 (40268) and Scarif Stormtrooper (40176) polybags which all comes with a connectible stands and background cards, each representing the most recent Star Wars films that were released. Frankly speaking, I am not very much impressed with DJ’s LEGO minifigure rendition, nor his character in the big screen. Nevertheless, the most dedicated LEGO Star Wars fan will probably appreciate taking a look at this latest LEGO SW collectible. Check out the official image below.

40298 Prod

As we can see, the minifigure is at its best, a faithful rendition of DJ’s costume as seen in The Last Jedi, having the same brown-over-black color scheme, particularly on his threadbare trunk coat. The minifigure face printing also tries to capture the rogue code breaker’s rugged, unkempt look. Truth be told, I am not that excited with LEGO’s choice of having DJ as a collectible minifigure considering that there is a lot of candidates in the film that has greater potential as a collectible minifig.  I have in mind Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo (since we only have her in the Resistance Bomber (75188) set) or old man Luke Skywalker now that he is officially deceased from the Star Wars galaxy, or even better, perhaps a minifigure rendition of the Vulptex: one of those Crystal Foxes on planet Crait which was instrumental in the escape the remaining Resistance Forces.

In any case, if you’re out to collect all LEGO Star Wars minifigures that there is (just like Stephen’s 1,400 LEGO minifigure wall), then adding DJ in your roster is definitely a must.

Here are descriptions/names for all 17 of the coming LEGO Series 18 minifigures. One cool thing to mention, all of these come on an orange baseplate, not black as they typically do.

  • Red Suit Brick Guy – in a red 4×2 brick, holding a blue 1×1.
  • Police Officer – old LEGO style, exactly like the one in LEGO set 600 back in 1978. He’s holding a printed 1×2 tile picturing LEGO set 600. A very cool way of commemorating the LEGO minifigure’s 40th anniversary.
  • Elephant Suit Girl – female wearing elephant suit, with a pink tutu and holding a mouse.
  • Rocket/Firework Guy – male wearing a rocket/firework that is blue, top of firework is red and his pants are dark gray. The costume also has some stars/explosion printing all over in yellow, and the word BANG! all over it.
  • Red Dragon Suit Guy – cool looking red dragon suit with black spikes on his tail and horns. Red wings attach to the back. You’re going to love the head mold, and the dragon looks really tough.
  • Birthday Cake Guy – guy in a birthday cake wearing a light blue suit, gold hat and bow-tie. Pink icing splattered print on his torso. No legs, all cake. The gold hat seems to be connected to the head using a new piece.
  • Race Car Guy – guy wearing a blue and white racers outfit as a new, molded red race car is attached between his torso and legs. Pretty cool look. Race car has a white fin and some printing on it. The minifigure itself has several detailed printings on the torso, legs, and arms most probably the different sponsors that our Race Car Guy has.
  • Flower Girl – girl dressed as a dark pink flower. New mold that fits over her head with face coming through the middle of the flower. Green torso to match coloring of the stem. No legs, she attaches to a clay flower pot.
  • Blue Brick Girl – in a blue 4×2 brick, holding a red 1×1.
  • Blue Unicorn Knight – male dressed as a blue unicorn. lol. Comes holding a gold sword and a white shield with a white unicorn printed on it.
  • Orange Balloon LEGO Fan Boy – not a costume at all. Boy with short legs, green glasses. His torso is white, but printed with light blue minifigure heads and a multi-color tie. He comes with an orange balloon (these are new LEGO pieces) and 2 LEGO Series 1 minifigure pack printed 1×1 tiles. Also comes with a printed birthday present. This one is going to be easy to feel for with all these accessories. He is wearing shorts using a multi-tone colored legs.
  • Spider Suit Guy – could actually be female, can’t tell. He wears a black jacket with white spider web printing on torso. Head mold has 4 molded and printed spider eyes on top of head. Also, two fangs colored dark gray molded into head piece. Comes holding a black spider and an eight-legged mold attaches to back of the figure. The latter is a new piece which is will look nice on a Venom minifigure.
  • Purple Balloon Girl – the compliment to the Orange Balloon LEGO Fan Boy. However, this girl doesn’t like LEGO. Here torso printing is just multi-color square on a white shirt.  She is wearing light blue shorts using a multi-tone colored legs. Wearing a purple birthday hat. Accessories are a purple balloon, donut, cookie and a birthday gift.
  • Cactus Girl – girl wearing a new molded cactus piece. The arms on the torso are also new, as they look like an extension to the cactus with no hands, much similar to the Shark Suit Guy. Green legs.
  • Cowboy Suit Guy – Cowboy with white hat. A horse costume attaches between his legs and torso so it looks like he is riding on a horse. Horse mold does not carry through to the back. Brown legs.
  • Balloon Artist Clown – Fun clown! Wearing a light green top-hat with a purple flower printed on it. Orange and purple torso printed vest. Orange coattails attach to his legs and carry about an inch off of him in the back. Red bow-tie attaches to his neck. Light green legs to match his top-hat. The best part is that he comes holding balloons that he has twisted into dogs. These balloon pieces are definitely new green and purple translucent pieces, and I bet most of you will love this minifig accessories.
  • Cat Suit Guy/Girl – I cannot tell if this is a male or a female. Looks almost exactly like Slyvester the Cat. Comes holding a teal fish. The printing in this minifigure is all black and white.

LEGO Star Wars DJ Minifigure Polybag (40298) Now Available at Toys ‘R’ US, with Possible Promo Coming.

Viewers who saw the Star Wars: The Last Jedi on cinemas last December will likely remember the brief appearance of Benicio Del Toro as a bit character in the narrative. He played the character DJ, a gambler and code-breaker hired by the Resistance to help them evade the evil First Order.

At first he appeared not up to reputation, then later on proved his resourcefulness to finish the job. While apparently helping Rey and Rose, he alternatively showed greed and compassion. When the deed was finally done, he succeeded in his assignment only to sell out the Resistance to buy his own freedom from imprisonment.

Such a minor, yet game-changing character was ultimately captured by LEGO to be immortalized in minifigure form in the LEGO Star Wars DJ Collectible Minifigure (40298) polybag. First announced as a promotional item in LEGO Brand Stores to celebrate the premiere of The Last Jedi, it has been reported that the  now going to branch out to Toys R Us.

So far, the only information about the LEGO Star Wars DJ minifigure polybag (40298) was that it will be coming to TRU and that it’s priced at the expected $4.99; there’s the possibility that the retail giant might have their own promotional, but no word has been given.

The DJ polybag (40298) is similar to the minifigure polybags of R3-M2 (40268) and Scarif Stormtrooper (40176), in that all three comprise of the minifigs themselves, connectible stands and background cards. If Toys R Us are planning any special promos involving DJ, we’ll find out and keep our readers informed so I hope you keep tabs with us.

LEGO Collectible Minifigure Series 18 Rumors.

😀 Update: We have the names for all 17 of the Series 18 minifigures.

Earlier last year, we reported on a rumor via Eurobricks that the next LEGO Collectible Minifigure Series, Series 18 in particular, will be celebrating the 40th Year Anniversary of the LEGO minifigure. What better way to celebrate it is to have a costume-themed party! Everything has been speculations regarding the actual figures that will be included – until now.

Just recently, Brick Show has obtained information about how the LEGO CMF Series 18 will be like, and as it seems, early rumors and predictions were correct. According to our sources, Series 18 consists of a blind bag that clearly shows LEGO’s 40th Minifigure Anniversary. Furthermore, the bag itself has a party theme vibe, and since this is a celebration of the iconic minifig’s anniversary, what is interesting is the reported inclusion of LEGO’s 40th Minifigure Anniversary logo. As mentioned in previous reports, Series 18 is expected to have a total of 17 minifigures and the blind bag highlights 9 of the characters included in the series. What we heard so far ties up with was discussed in fan forums so far. Here’s what we know based on our sources.

  • Blue Brick Costume Girl
  • Red Brick Costume Guy
  • Cactus Girl
  • Spider Monster Costume Guy
  • Rocket Guy
  • Classic Sailor (minifigure head is based on the classic, generic LEGO minifigures)
  • Cowboy Costume Guy
  • Party Girl With Balloon
  • Party Host/Cake Guy

Obviously, there are still other minifigure characters that were not included in the said blind bag packaging, and since this is a minifigure costume party, we can surely expect a lot of costume donned minifigs. Some candidates are animals and additional food costumes to liven up the anniversary party.

Overall, this looks like to be an exciting CMF Series with plenty of costumes to go around. Again, these are reports from our sources and should be best treated as rumors and taken with a pinch of salt. Nevertheless, the prospect of seeing a costume party-themed CMF is a nice one.

So what do you think brick fans, can you imagine how these Series 18 minifigs will look like? Which one do you think will be your favorite? Let us know in the comments below.

Two of these minifigure blings will be raffled away, with an estimated value of more than $3,200 each. The raffle period is currently running until January 12, and is open to all residents of Europe and the US, and other countries where LEGO Brand Stores can be found except for Asia.

Now, just a few moments ago, LEGO has posted via its Facebook page a video, showing how these prized minifigures are crafted. I have to say that making these prize collectibles really requires a lot of patience and skill, especially that most of the process is done by hand. It also looks like LEGO has more in store other than the platinum versions of R2-D2. We can see from the video below that other than the platinum minifigs, there are also silver and white gold ones that were created. I’m not sure on what LEGO will do or what they intend to do with the silver and gold R2s, but having one of these is surely a catch of a lifetime for any AFOL.

This contest is open to all contestants 18 years old and above, and be sure to visit the contest registration page to have your chance of winning one of these ultra rare collectibles. May the Brick Force be with you.

Merry Christmas! Last Segment of LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar 2017 Updates

UPDATE: Thanks are in order to Bricket’s CapnRex101 for sharing the following images.

Well, here we are on the big day itself: December 24, the last day covered by the LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar for this year (set 75184). This update will complete our blurb coverage on all the micro-models and minifigures we’ve been getting for every day of the 2017 version. Let’s finish up.

Day 19: TIE Striker – Seen in action during Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This sleek Imperial TIE fighter-craft variant also got a full LEGO model version in set 75154. The advent micro-version is servicable, although the scaling of dimensions is iffy, especially with the fuselage. Still good though.

24293471437 8d3dd4c633 b

Day 20: TX-225 GAVw Hover Tank – Another Rogue One Imperial vehicle, an armored fighting machine that’s not a walker for a change. It’s a fairly good micro conversion of the regular LEGO Star Wars set (75152).

39146866752 bdd0034fdb b

Day 21: Imperial technician Kent Deezling – A Rogue One bit character, his minifigure is actually part of the regular TIE Striker LEGO set (75154). As before, he’s got a blaster and helmet covering a transceiver-wearing face.

 39166243792 e2b65ab032 b25328190148 16fd8dcafe b

Day 22: Star Wars Speeder Sleigh – The Big Day is ever so near, so here’s a holiday sleigh with Christmas goodies, but set in the Star Wars galaxy, making it a speeder with engines. Pretty cheeky.

38530112184 525c671ce1 b

Day 23: AT-ST – We can’t really place this one vehicle in a specific film; it could be Rogue One, or Return of the Jedi, or even The Last Jedi which premiered this month. It’s irrelevant though; the Imperial AT-ST has always been a favorite, whether the regular LEGO set (75153) or this micro version.

38506542534 65f063d5e2 b

Day 24: Santa BB-8 – What a way to wrap up the Star Wars Advent countdown this year. The Santa figure this time around is Poe Dameron’s personal astro-mech droid – and breakout character of the Star Wars sequel trilogy – the roly-poly cute (and self-aware of it) BB-8.

38382800425 0298d5094b b

Before we sign off, I have to come clean with an erratum for our previous 2017 Advent Calendar update post, the penultimate in the series. Eagle eyes would note that the actual Day 18 surprise for this year is a micro Y-Wing bomber. That has been fixed.

And with that, our advent countdown in the company of LEGO Star Wars is complete. Thank your for staying with our reports all the way. Merry Christmas to All!

LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi DJ (40298) Minifigure Will be the Next LEGO Store Promotional Sometime In January.

Last Tuesday, we reported the debut of the next LEGO Star Wars collectible minifigure hailing from the latest episode of the Star Wars saga. Originally discovered via LEGO fan forums, this newest LEGO Star Wars collectible joins the ranks of the LEGO Star Wars R3-M2 (40268) and Scarif Stormtrooper (40176) minifigures that are tied-in with The Force Awakens and Rogue One respectively. Similarly, the LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi DJ (40298) minifigure is also expected to be the next gift with purchase freebie via shop.LEGO.com.

40298

Initially, we speculated that this LEGO Star Wars DJ minifigure will be made available once May the 4th seasonal promotions go live. But as it seems, we might be receiving this collectible freebie earlier than expected. According to LEGO German fan site Zusammengebaut, we can expect to have the DJ minifigure as early as next month, January 1 to be exact. The caveat though, is that it will only be applied to purchases that are made via LEGO’s Shop@Home. This is quite unusual though, since most of LEGO’s promotional freebies are both usually offered online and in-store. We will continue to verify this, and we’ll let you know once more information comes in.

A Look At Hamley’s Exclusive LEGO Royal Guard Minifigure (5005233).

This newest LEGO collectible minifigure has been out on the Internet for quite some time already, and I feel that our friends over in the UK will love to have this exclusive. As it seems, it looks like the world’s finest (and oldest) toy shop, Hamley’s, will finally have a LEGO minifigure of its own.

London Hamleys Store

The LEGO Hamley’s Exclusive LEGO Royal Guard Minifigure (5005233) is now currently available at the posh toy store, retailing for £6. First revealed by Mark Philip Campbell, Hamley’s current LEGO Manager, via social media, the exclusive minifigure bears a close resemblance to the LEGO Series 5 Royal Guard minifigure (8805) released in 2011. The only difference is that this recent Hamley LEGO exclusive has a cheerful and friendly expression, and a slightly modified torso with added medals and an all white belt and buckle.

BrickFanz also shared the following image of this Hamley’s LEGO exclusive, as you can see below.

LEGO Hamley minifigure 2

It is nice to see that LEGO has been paying attention in offering what I would call as ‘regional’ themed minifigures that speaks a ton about each locality’s unique culture and popular icons. If you recall, the LEGO Store in London also had a similar pitch when it offered the LEGO Lester (40308) minifigure polybag, also retailing for £6. Though Hamley’s is a business entity that has been in the toy selling business for centuries, it already has a specific niche in London’s Regent Street and in the lives of the people who live there.

We don’t have further details other than these preliminary images; however, it looks like that this exclusive is still currently available even after almost a week of its debut. I also hope that the store will offer this as in-store exclusive promotional that comes free for every qualifying LEGO purchase. We just have to wait and see.
