ICYMI: The LEGO Group Unveils The LEGO Batman 1989 Batwing (76161)

This past weekend was full of surprises. And in case you missed it, The LEGO Group has unveiled its next 18+ set that will surely appeal to Tim Burton fans. Following the crime-fighting footsteps of last year’s LEGO DC Batman 1989 Batmobile (76139), the LEGO Batman 1989 Batwing (76161) now brings the Caped Crusader’s high-flying action to the skies of Gotham City, packed with all the authentic details of the original Batwing as envisioned by Tim Burton in his 1989 film rendition.

The LEGO Batman 1989 Batwing (76161) comes in at 2,363 pieces and is expected to retail for $200 once it is available starting November 1, with early VIP access on October 21. The set measures at an impressive 4 inches high, 20 inches long, and 22 inches wide, making it a sure head-turner once it is assembled. It also features three minifigures that can be displayed alongside the completed Batwing all reminiscent of the original 1989 film – it includes Batman, The Joker, and Lawrence the Boombox goon.

LEGO Star Wars The Child (75318) Officially Revealed!

After being spotted in a store shelf in Luxemburg earlier this month, the LEGO Group has finally made it official and has now listed the LEGO Star Wars The Child (75318) for pre-order over at LEGO Shop@Home.

Just in time before the Disney+ hit series The Mandalorian streams again for its 2nd season, the LEGO Star Wars The Child (75318) will also be available starting October 30 with LEGO’s online shopping portal now taking pre-orders. The set features a buildable and articulated brick version of Baby Yoda and is expected to retail for $80 coming in at 1,073 pieces. And as a sort of a cherry on top to sweeten the deal, this set also comes with a minifigure version of The Child previously found only in the Razor Crest (75292) set.

THE LEGO GROUP REVEALS LEGO® STAR WARS™ THE CHILD CONSTRUCTION SET

Today, the LEGO Group reveals its latest construction set featuring the beloved character from the Lucasfilm series Star Wars: The Mandalorian™. The LEGO® Star Wars™ The Child construction set is inspired by the small-in-size but powerful-in-charisma character, the Child (or Baby Yoda as fans have affectionately dubbed the character), from the series. The building set will be available globally from October 30^th, with pre-orders starting today as part of the Mando Mondays program announcement from Disney and Lucasfilm.

Measuring just under 20cm (7.8 inches) in height, builders can experience the fun of building a set inspired by one of their favorite The Mandalorian™ stars in 1,073 pieces. Designed for fans aged 10 and over, builders can make the model their own. With a posable head, movable ears, and an adjustable mouth, fans can choose from a range of the Child’s famous expressions when putting their finished model on display.

“When I received the challenge to create a LEGO brick-built version of the Child, I knew that I had to get it just right,” says Michael Lee Stockwell, Design Manager, LEGO® Star Wars™. “The goal was to capture the charm, and above all, the cuteness of the character, so we worked meticulously, choosing and placing every brick. We even included authentic details like the gearstick knob – a favorite toy of the Child as seen in the series.”

The construction set comes with an information plaque, which includes the Child’s height and age, and a LEGO® Star Wars™ Minifigure of the Child to complete a charming display.

It will also be nice if the Diagon Alley (75978) had an early reveal as well in next month’s Store Calendar to make it even more exciting.

Several days ago, a post from StarWars.com has also added to the confusion by stating that the LEGO Star Wars commemorative set will be a Target store exclusive. Ultimately, LEGO has listed this 18+ set over its online shopping portal, with a release date of August 27.

A bit confusing as it may sound, I think having the LEGO Star Wars Bespin Duel (75294) both on Target and at shop.LEGO.com eventually works in favor of LEGO SW fans. This means this collectible set will be available to more fans in general, as it has the potential of becoming a highly sought-after set that celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Empire Strikes Back.

Limited Edition LEGO DC Wonder Woman (77906) Officially Revealed

DC FanDome’s first half of its virtual comic-con may all be over, but it seems the excitement doesn’t stop there. Following the reveal of the new Wonder Woman 1984 trailer which gives our first look at Kristen Wiig’s Cheetah, now comes a new LEGO product listing that celebrates the film’s classic comic book roots. LEGO Shop@Home has now listed the limited edition LEGO DC Wonder Woman (77906), scheduled to be released on October 1st.

Right off the bat, the LEGO DC Wonder Woman (77906) set follows the recognizable Comic-Con style box art reminiscent of previous SDCC offerings. This strengthens the notion that this may probably be intended to be offered as a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive, but because of the on-going pandemic, LEGO has to do some contingency plans on how this may be offered to the market. This vignette type of set is very much reminiscent of that to the LEGO Captain Marvel and the ASIS (77902) and the LEGO DC Dark Knight of Gotham City (77903) both exclusively offered during last year’s SDCC.

Some things worth noting here are first, LEGO opted to have this listed for pre-order, helping TLG determine how much sets will it need to produce within a month before its official release in October. And second, it looks like the set will only be offered in the US, which is not really good news to other LEGO fans across the globe. Frankly, I’m still a bit puzzled on how LEGO comes across with some of these geographical restrictions, while still committing on the idea of doing away with its regional exclusives. Whatever is the case, I think fans will appreciate it if LEGO clarifies these things.
