And Our Ultimate US LEGO Masters Are…

The first season of LEGO Masters US has concluded, with three teams: Tyler & Amy, Mark & Boone, and Sam & Jessica giving all they have in their final builds, and bid, to become the country’s ultimate LEGO Masters.

**********[WARNING: POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD]**********

The journey to win the title was a long and daunting one, with ten teams from the LEGO fan community all vying for that prestigious title, one-of-a-kind brick trophy, and an impressive $100,000 prize money. And this time around, the final episode sees three teams pushing those LEGO bricks on what could be the most challenging 24 hours of their lives.

In this final challenge, the task at hand is for the pairs to create anything that they can think of that will represent their most creative work during the season. For Mark & Boone, the challenge was to create Artopia, where they envision a community of artistic LEGO minifigs coming together to celebrate their talents in spite of being in a post-apocalyptic era.

Sam & Jessica’s final build shows a playful representation of The Peacock and the Monkey that combines both of their creative talents in a fun and unique way. Needless to say, this is the greatest entry that they have conceived throughout their entire stint in the contest in spite of all the ups and downs that they’ve been through.

And finally, Team Tyler & Amy wowed the judges with their final build, the Treasure of the Griffin. Not just master builders themselves, the couple has also perfected the art of brick storytelling in their final entry. Other than the superb aesthetic and technical aspects of their builds, the story itself, I feel, represents their instinctive desire as soon-to-be parents to provide a loving and protective environment for their family.

Needless to say, this is the most difficult episode for judges Jamie Berard and Amy Corbett. And though there were episodes that I would find myself passionately disagreeing with them, I feel that they were at the top of their game as fair, and discerning judges during this final episode. They managed to provide constructive feedback that the finalists willingly considered, while being unbiased and objective.

Though I loved the team dynamics between Sam and Jessica, I always felt that among the three, they will most likely end up in third place leaving the teams of Tyler & Amy and Mark & Boone competing for the grand prize. And in the end, though it is a difficult and nerve-wracking task, Jamie and Amy gave their decision and awarded the ultimate LEGO US LEGO Masters title to Tyler & Amy. The expectant couple eventually received an awesome LEGO trophy plus a $100,000 cash award that will certainly be put into good use as they prepare for the arrival of their little bundle of joy.

Congratulations Tyler & Amy and surely, it’s a brick journey that your child will very, very proud of. I can just imagine him cheering for his mom and dad. For more of Tyler & Amy’s LEGO creations you want to check out Tyler’s Flickr page where they render in microscale all of their entries throughout the show’s seasons. Tyler is also helping out making our stay-at-home more fun through his latest videos entitled Quarantine Creations so you may want to check it out as well.  Again, congratulations to both Tyler and Amy, and all of the LEGO Masters US contestants!

LEGO Wonder Woman vs Cheetah (76157) Spotted in Target Stores

In case you missed it, last week saw the reveal of another LEGO and Warner Bros tie-in set with the LEGO Wonder Woman vs Cheetah (76157) set appearing in online third-party retail stores. Similar to the LEGO Wonder Woman Warrior Battle (76075) released in 2017 to celebrate the release of the Amazon princess’ first DCEU solo film, this current offering most probably will be the only set released for the sequel.

UK’s Asda has listed this set for pre-order (but currently out of stock) for £34.97 or roughly at $40. Check out the following images below, including its brief product description.

Young superheroes can recreate the Wonder Woman 1984 movie with the LEGO DC Wonder Woman vs Cheetah (76157) action figures battle building set. When Wonder Woman (Diana Prince) encounters her archenemy, Cheetah (Dr. Barbara Minerva), at the transmitter tower, the scene is set for an epic battle! This DC Universe action-packed playset gives kids double the fun. Down below in the bunker, Max tries to enter the tower, while overhead the transmitter panels rotate. Meanwhile, Wonder Woman and Cheetah confront each other. With exciting features and so many possibilities for play, young superheroes will experience endless imaginative fun!

LEGO DC kids’ construction toys with superhero minifigures let children role-play as their favourite superhero in good vs evil conflicts to save the world in the DC Universe! With legendary characters and cool gadgets, LEGO DC building sets make great gifts for kids, inspiring individual and group play that never ends. Measures 7” (19 cm) high and 6” (17cm) wide, with a radar dish measuring 7” (20cm) across. Contains 371 pieces.

There is no update yet on when this set will be eventually available, though the way I see it, LEGO has probably begun rolling out the LEGO Wonder Woman vs Cheetah (76157) set since eagle-eyed fans have already spotted it across shelves of Target stores.

My best guess is that since the Wonder Woman 1984 film sequel was originally set to be released in theaters on June 4, but needs to be rescheduled in August instead because of the COVID-19 outbreak, LEGO eventually went ahead with the release of the set, probably intended to be released next month. Whatever is the case, it also seems that this latest LEGO tie-in set will be a Target store exclusive as reported by The Brick Fan.  We’ll probably get more info in the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned.

LEGO Super Mario Super Mushroom Surprise (30385) Polybag Revealed

After the reveal of the first wave of LEGO Super Mario Expansion sets and the particular introduction of the theme’s first gift-with-purchase (GWP) set in the form of the Monty Mole & Super Mushroom (40414) freebie, the Nintendo-inspired LEGO theme will also have its first polybag offering. The LEGO Super Mario Super Mushroom Surprise (30385) polybag is a free item that will be thrown into your cart once you pre-order the LEGO Super Mario Starter Course (71360) via third-party retailers particularly Zavvi.

LEGO Super Mario Super Mushroom Surprise

Due to an overwhelming response from the LEGO fandom, the LEGO Super Mario Starter Course is now sold out at LEGO Shop@Home. However, if you wish to be one of the first to have their try on this first LEGO Super Mario set, then you may be glad to know that Zavvi has this set currently on sale over at their site. The caveat though is that it seems that both GWPs, set 40414 and the polybag 30385, are different freebies that LEGO opted to offer depending on where you will make your purchase of the Starter Course. The better deal, of course, is what LEGO Shop@Home offers. And since the LEGO Super Mario Starter Course is now sold out from LEGO’s official online shopping portal, those who missed out on that window of opportunity last week when LEGO launched its pre-order, have to settle for what 3rd party retailers have to offer.

30385 1

Brickfinder also noted the same with LEGO Certified Stores in Singapore when the Super Mushroom Surprise (30385) polybag was advertised as its promotional freebie for the LEGO Super Mario Starter Course. Now I completely understand that it’s just a marketing decision for LEGO to offer a better promotional deal over at their turf, but from a LEGO fan’s perspective, especially if I missed that opportunity and has to settle only for a less attractive deal, then it really sucks. Just to be clear, I’m not against the idea of a polybag promo – LEGO in fact released polybags that even contained exclusive minifigs such as, for example, the LEGO Batman Classic TV Series – Mr. Freeze (30603) polybag from 2016. But again from a fan’s perspective, having two different freebies for one particular set offering, depending on where you will purchase it, sounds a bit odd and disadvantageous for a customer.

There’s no word on when the LEGO Super Mario Starter Course with its free Monty Mole & Super Mushroom (40414) set will be available again at LEGO Shop@Home. But for now, if you want to be assured of your LEGO Super Mario Starter Course when it is released in August, then you may want to check with Zavvi with its free LEGO Super Mario Super Mushroom Surprise (30385), for that matter.

A Message Of Hope In LEGO Bricks

The day is almost done for most of us, but in this part of the world, it has just begun. And though I’m inclined to say that this may not necessarily mean the best time to relax, kick back and just let the noise of the day simply fade out, the troubles that we are currently facing and the uncertainty of a future that lies ahead create a whirlwind of questions and uneasiness that makes it difficult to enjoy this day the way we are accustomed to. The usual excitement for that annual egg-hunting activity every Easter Sunday, and the usual festivities associated with it, are to be brutally honest, dampened in most parts of the Christian world. I’m not in the habit of making our blogsite a forum of religious preferences, but for this Easter Sunday, allow me to share this MOC by Danish builder Lasse Vestergård. Not only does this brick sculpture deserves to be applauded for clearly conveying the most important event in Christianity’s history, but it resonates with a clear and strong message of hope in these trying times. Considering the depth of meaning behind Lasse’s brick-built interpretation of the Easter Story, it surely echoes with joy and hope wherever we are.

LEGO Easter

Lasse’s MOC is filled with light-hearted, striking contrasts both aesthetically and figuratively – from the color scheme itself to the MOC’s entire concept. It even retains some of the smart humor that LEGO is known for, particularly from the way Jesus’ smiling face was built, and even doing a thumbs-up sign and boldly showing off the nail marks on his hands. The contrast between the defeated figure of death and that of the bed of flowers is a very creative and straightforward way of showing how death and suffering are forever conquered through the resurrection of Jesus. Death simply doesn’t stand a chance in this pivotal wrestling match – even if it comes in the shape and form of a novel coronavirus.

For more of Lasse’s brick interpretation of Jesus’s birth, life, death, and resurrection, check out the rest of his creations right here. For more Easter fun builds that you can try while staying at home, be sure to check out Tyler’s Quarantine Creations and even LEGO’s #LetsBuildTogether campaign.

Let’s all share a message of hope on this day. And on behalf of the rest of the Brick Show Team, HAPPY EASTER everyone!

Its Building Castles With Tyler In This Week Episode of Quarantine Creations

If you enjoyed last week’s episodes of Quarantine Creations, with all the planes, jets and hot air balloon mini builds, then I’m sure that you’ll enjoy these next round of building activities with Tyler. Whether you’re new in the LEGO hobby or a veteran builder already, these building activities offer some respite from the quarantine jitters that most of us may be experiencing. And for this week, Tyler brings back those nostalgic feelings of early LEGO fandom while building castles using the most common LEGO pieces around. Watch this.

As typical of Tyler, he takes the extra mile of teaching and explaining some of the building techniques involved in these creations, and detailing the needed parts for this mini builds. Check out the following parts and see if you have them in your collection.

Quarantine Creations Untitled 3 Quarantine Creations Untitled 5 Quarantine Creations Untitled 7

I like how this castle turned out, especially the way on how some of its aesthetics were cleverly built at such a miniature scale. The use of the 1×1 Angular Bricks (I refer to them as ‘washing machine’ bricks) for the windows is a creative workaround in providing windows for the portion of the tower. Likewise, the use of the 1×1 brick with handle, and 1×1 brick with holder to create that cross effect for the window is pretty impressive. Some parts are missing from my collection but I think it can be replaced with other suitable pieces.

Stay tuned this week for more cool and fun builds. Just give us a like over at our Facebook page, and subscribe to our other YouTube channel (the non-extinct one, of course) for updates on our next episodes of Quarantine Creations. And while you are at it, you may also want to check out The Brick Show Shop’s on-going store-wide Quarantine Sale, where ALL products on sale are at a 20% discount.

Stay safe and keep on building!

LEGO Super Mario Monty Mole & Super Mushroom (40414) Set Images Released

The first set among many from the LEGO Super Mario theme has been revealed already, and with it comes a nice pre-order freebie. LEGO Shop@Home has been updated to include the LEGO Super Mario Monty Mole & Super Mushroom (40414) expansion set as a pre-order gift for those who managed to bag the LEGO Super Mario Starter Course (71360) base set.

LEGO Super Mario Monty Mole & Super Mushroom

This free expansion set comes in at 163 pieces and has a retail value of $14.99. It features a brick version of a Super Mushroom (or Power Mushroom), a Stone Eye from the New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, and the cunning Monty Mole. A closer look at some of the pieces of this expansion set reveals several sensor tiles where the LEGO Super Mario figure can interact with. As previously revealed, the said figure is equipped with several sensors that will interact with certain set elements or pieces coming from future expansion sets. The LEGO Super Mario figure is also equipped with LCD screens and speakers for that leveled-up play feature and building experience. LEGO also intends this theme to be modular, so builders and hobbyists can re-arrange all these sets in many different ways possible.

It’s not yet sure when this pre-order bonus will go live once again since the LEGO Super Mario Starter Course is now immediately out of stock. Though LEGO specifically states this promotional item will be made available until July 31, it’s yet to be seen when it will be offered once again. As a side note, you might be interested to know that Walmart also carries the LEGO Super Mario Starter Course and is still currently available. However, the better deal is still with LEGO Shop@Home since it has the LEGO Super Mario Monty Mole & Super Mushroom (40414) expansion as a gift-with-purchase item.

More LEGO Super Mario Expansion Sets Introduced and Other Details

After unveiling the LEGO Super Mario Starter Course (71360) base set, LEGO gives us a glimpse of some of the things to expect from its repertoire of expansion sets. LEGO Lead Designer Jonathan Bennink gives us a tour of this entry set, while at the same time introducing two, new LEGO Super Mario expansion sets, one of which is the largest among the theme. Watch this.

Other than showing the various play features of the Starter Course, Jonathan also gave us a glimpse of the two new LEGO Super Mario expansion sets namely the Piranha Plant Power Slide (71366) and the largest set in the theme, the Bowser’s Castle Boss Battle (71369).

Its kind of fun and interesting to see how the LEGO Super Mario figure responds to the play features offered by each of these expansion sets. Since the LEGO Mario figure itself is equipped with several sensors, we can expect it to interact with these sets depending on what they have to offer. And since these sets are basically modular, the entire theme offers plenty of customization depending on how you want the course to be arranged. Think of it as a somewhat physical, brick version of Nintendo’s Super Mario Maker 2 where the challenges are virtually limitless.

Here’s LEGO’s official press release for more details. The LEGO Super Mario Starter Course (71360) is currently listed at LEGO Shop@Home, though a recent influx of pre-orders seemed to have overwhelmed LEGO that the online shopping portal needed to temporarily suspend the sale of the set. Coming in at 231 pieces and retailing for $59.99, the starter set and the rest of the LEGO Super Mario expansion sets will be available in the market starting August 1st.  If you were one of those lucky souls who managed to pre-order the set before it was taken down, you will also be receiving a pre-order bonus: the 163-piece LEGO Super Mario Monty Mole and Super Mushroom (40414) expansion set valued at $14.99.  Be sure to visit LEGO Shop@Home for more updates.

Plus the figure also includes a speaker that plays iconic sounds from the classic video games.
