LEGO Overwatch Sets Poised to be Revealed at Overwatch Fan Festival

Earlier this month, LEGO launched its Overwatch minisite to celebrate the upcoming launch of their new Activision Blizzard tie-in, which was announced last May. There’s no word yet regarding where and when these new sets will be revealed, but a recent development may point us to a particular Overwatch Fan Festival happening this week in South Korea. The hugely popular first person shooter game has endeared itself to many South Koreans, and it makes sense that LEGO will make its presence known during the said event. As it turns out, a quick look at the regional Overwatch site seems to confirm this, with LEGO’s branding prominently shown and giving us a teaser that LEGO Overwatch sets are soon to be revealed.

Nothing much has been said about the extent of LEGO’s participation in the fan festival, but LEGO’s presence in the event speaks a mouthful. The Overwatch Fan Festival in South Korea will happen on Wednesday and Thursday, August 22 to 23, and it coincides with another event that is also happening this week, and this time in Germany. A quick browse at the Exhibitors page of Gamescom 2018 – Germany’s answer to E3 – reveals that LEGO will be setting up an exhibitor’s booth from August 21 to 25. Similarly, no details have been released to the public on what LEGO has in store for both Gamescom and the Overwatch Fan Festival, but we can bet our bricks that several LEGO Overwatch sets will most likely make their debut on these dates. According to Promobricks’ intel, there will be at least five LEGO Overwatch sets that fans can expect during the next few days. The only question is, which of these events will LEGO utilize to make the big reveal, and are we looking at regular sets, a new collectible minifigure line, or perhaps even a new wave of LEGO BrickHeadz Overwatch sets.

Personally, I am more compelled to consider the possibility of having a full range of LEGO Overwatch sets across selected themes. Since the Overwatch universe is highly diversified, the LEGO sets will perhaps be primarily based on the Overwatch’s mini movies, while their respective minifigures will focus on some (and not all) of the 28 playable characters of the game since some might be too difficult to render in minifig form. We may also have a dual-pack LEGO BrickHeadz Overwatch set: one of which may be based on one the game’s tank heroes, equipped with their mechs or any related armaments. These are all speculative at this point based on what I want to see in a LEGO Overwatch set and until we hear an official press release from LEGO, we will keep our fingers crossed.

Build Your Own LEGO BrickHeadz Geoffrey (40316) With These Building Instructions

Earlier this month, we reported on a LEGO BrickHeadz set that we never had in the form of the LEGO BrickHeadz Geoffrey (40316). Since Toys R Us’ bankruptcy a few months ago, it seems that there were some LEGO and TRU promotional tie-in sets that never saw their day on store shelves. In particular, the LEGO BrickHeadz Geoffrey (40316) set never came to be and was only made known to the public when its building instructions appeared on LEGO.com’s building instructions service. From the looks of it, LEGO already has another set in the works to celebrate its partnership with TRU, but unfortunately, because of the latter’s demise, we’ll never be able to have our hands on it.

Moreover, as of this writing, the link for the LEGO BrickHeadz Geoffrey (40316) building instructions was already removed from LEGO servers. So if you didn’t download these instructions back then such as myself (I only downloaded its parts list), well, here’s some piece of good news. Our friends over at The Brick Blogger managed to download the building instructions before it was taken down by LEGO. You can view the pages individually as you can see from the gallery below, or you may also opt to download the entire building instructions in PDF format.

Save for the unique printed pieces such as the 1×1 and 1×2 bricks with star pattern, and Geoffrey’s printed eyes, the rest of the pieces may easily be located in your existing LEGO sets. You may also try using Bricklink’s services referring to the parts list below to recreate this piece of childhood nostalgia.

I’m not really sure if LEGO was able to actually roll out some LEGO BrickHeadz Geoffrey (40316) sets out in the market, given that the building instructions were once uploaded in LEGO servers. Perhaps only time can tell if we will eventually spot this set on eBay or anywhere in the web.

Hold On To Your Bricks and Check Out These Custom LEGO Nintendo Super Mario Boxes From B3

You have probably heard already how Nintendo may have unofficially “ended” the careers of brothers Mario and Luigi when they made a brief appearance for this year’s Nintendo Switch Super Smash Bros. Ultimate promotional videos. However, it is still open to debate whether or not this will be a part of Nintendo’s canon, or they are just there floating around somewhere across the Nintendo universe. Though these turn of events may leave Nintendo fans scratching their heads in bewilderment, I really hope that this plot twist is not for keeps – after all, Mario and Luigi is has been an integral part of Nintendo for decades, that its quite difficult to imagine the Nintendo world without them. So while hopefully waiting for their return, let’s gather our LEGO bricks shall we, and recreate some of the most memorable and nostalgic blocks that Mario and Luigi have ever stepped or smashed on. Inspired by Nintendo’s classic Super Mario Bros. video game, Tyler and Sean over at Build Better Bricks have come up with the coolest, custom LEGO Nintendo Super Mario Boxes that I’ve ever seen so far. Check out Sean’s video below for a better look.

What I like about these custom LEGO Nintendo Super Mario Boxes is the fact that they are functional to even carry small items. The Question Box for example, comes with a red, power-up mushroom and a green, 1-UP mushroom – both of them fitting snugly inside the box. The POW and Music Box are sizeable enough to become mini utility boxes, while the Brick box serves as cool (though less secure) way of keeping those extra change.

They’re not too difficult to build as well since it seems that these custom LEGO Nintendo Super Mario Boxes does not come with any ultra rare or unique parts to be built. Merlin Entertainments Teases LEGOLAND New York with LEGO-Built Scale Model

In October of last year, the good news was released that the US LEGOLAND theme parks in California and Florida was going to get a sibling in New York, located at the town of Goshen. Construction has only started at that point, and we won’t get to come in until 2020. But that won’t stop us getting a preview of it, even if that happens to be rendered in LEGO. This Thursday, August 16, LEGOLAND parks majority owner and operator Merlin Entertainments unveiled a sneak peek of their LEGOLAND New York theme park by means of a scale brick-built model. Engaging the help of 20 LEGO Master Builders working 1,300 hours total using 135,000 bricks, the company has created a neat representation of what the project will look like upon completion.

Curious guests can already view the LEGOLAND New York model on its display area right next to the construction site of the real thing in Goshen, just 60 miles to the northwest of NYC. This new park will cost Merlin Entertainments $350 million to realize, but finally having a LEGOLAND in the Northeast, the first such to be built in years, is a sure bet to attract lots of guests.

LEGOLAND New York will boast these themed lands, all taken from its brother parks in the US and around the world:

The Factory – the entry area; will have the New York-exclusive Great LEGO Adventure ride
Bricktopia – where Master Builders are to teach young builders the ropes of advanced LEGO building
Miniland – the LEGOLAND miniature zone featuring brick replicas of famous landmarks
Pirate Shores – pirate-themed watery zone
Knights’ Kingdom – site of the park’s central structure, LEGO Castle
LEGO Ninjago World – stomping grounds of the Masters of Spinjitzu, and their aspiring students
Heartlake City – where you can have fun hanging out with the gang of LEGO Friends
LEGO City – the pure urban zone of LEGOLAND; you might stumble into superheroes around there

LEGOLAND New York will be within easy reach of the country and the world, accessible from New York Stewart International Airport. Arrangements with ShortLine Coach USA mean that in 2020, visitors can catch buses from the Port Authority Terminal in New York City that will take them to the park. They’ll even have a sweet LEGO Hotel with 250 rooms. We can hardly wait for that time to finally come.

Somerset, UK Hosting LEGO Exhibit, Spartan Brick Creations

Last month we shone a spotlight on a recent issue of Blocks, one of the major independent publications covering the LEGO scene. Some of the best elements the magazine has going for it are the splendid amount of content within, including building tips, advice and MOC from some knowledgeable contributors. One of Blocks magazine’s most well-known contributors is their Build Specialist Simon Pickard, a LEGO fan and wonder-builder who has also had the good fortune of having his worked showcased on official LEGO books. He’ll also be the principal guest for a LEGO builders’ exhibition in Wellington, Somerset County, UK aptly dubbed as Spartan Brick Creations.

For a single day this weekend, the Wellington Baptist Church will be the host for what has been termed as “An exhibition of creativity in LEGO”, better known as the “Spartan Brick Creations” event. Not only is Simon Pickard at the center of attention, there will also be build showcases of brick animals as featured in the recent “LEGO Animal Atlas” book published by Dorling-Kindersley.

With an admission price of £3 per head, with children under 2 allowed in for free, guests to the Spartan Brick Creations will be able to check out the LEGO builds on display, meet and greet with Simon Pickard, try their hand at construction with the free build zone, and of course be able to purchase a variety of LEGO sets both old and newly-released from the event’s partner merchants.

Lest you forget, Spartan Brick Creations is happening this Saturday, August 18, from 11AM to 5PM at the Baptist Church of Wellington in Somerset, UK.

Check Out This Ad Video for LEGO Star Wars Snoke’s Throne Room (75216)

A lot has already been said about Star Wars: The Last Jedi and its contrasting faces – decent blockbuster and fan-lambasted travesty – that you don’t need me to reiterate them. What we can do however is join in on gushing over the LEGO Star Wars sets tying in to the film. If you could recall, way back in March LEGO uploaded a hilarious abridged video of Star Wars: The Last Jedi on YouTube, summarizing that film (and its predecessors) in just two minutes. It featured LEGO animation of what was later confirmed to be the LEGO Star Wars Snoke’s Throne Room (75216) set, now finally released.

Apparently an abridging is not quite enough for LEGO, and their official YouTube channel now has another video, a commercial for the LEGO Star Wars Snoke’s Throne Room (75216). It focuses on the three principal minifigures of the set, and the characters they represent.

The ad features three kids playacting the incredible Throne Room fight from The Last Jedi using the LEGO Star Wars Snoke’s Throne Room (75216). They eventually get into an argument on which of Rey, Kylo Ren, or Supreme Leader Snoke is the strongest. The (animated) minfigs act out what the kids think of their abilities, until the argument distracts the children from the set and cause the minifigures to look up, unsure what to do. Its always amusing to see how kids can be brutally frank and at point with their commentaries.

In addition to the Snoke’s Throne Room (75216), you may want to check as well other new LEGO Star Wars sets already out at shop.LEGO.com, including the Hoth Medical Chamber (75203), Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter (75214) and X-Wing (75218) among others.

LEGO Rumors: LEGO BrickHeadz Simpsons and Fantastic Beasts Arriving in 2019

With us now well into the latter half of the year 2018, the time will soon begin when LEGO starts teasing what they’ve got in store for 2019. But it’s not just the official announcements to watch out for; there are also the rumors that pop up now and then. If you recall, we shared a pretty neat fan made infographic/poster that shows all the released and upcoming LEGO BrickHeadz sets that we are aware of as of to date. This particular poster has even reserved several spots for two dual-pack sets, one rumored to be a revival of a previous licensed LEGO set, and the other from a more recent franchise. If rumors are indeed true, then we might be seeing a LEGO BrickHeadz Simpsons and Fantastic Beasts anytime soon.

These latest LEGO BrickHeadz rumors, which have been floating around for quite some time, have hinted at a possible LEGO BrickHeadz Simpsons and Fantastic Beasts set, and both sets being a twofer at that. We get family patriarch Homer “D’oh!” Simpson and iconic franchise clown character Krusty for one set, numbered 41632. If this one’s true then the assumption that LEGO’s Simpsons license has expired (explaining the lack of new products) may not yet be true. Moving on, there’s also a 2-pack Wizarding World BrickHeadz for Fantastic Beasts, a late tie-in for The Crimes of Grindelwald this coming November. Reportedly, these BrickHeadz figures are Newt Scamander and Gellert Grindelwald, and they’ll be packaged under set 41631.

Like any other rumors, news of these LEGO BrickHeadz Simpsons and Fantastic Beasts sets should always be taken with a bit of salt. If there is one thing that these rumors have proven is the idea that LEGO BrickHeadz are here to stay, and LEGO still has plenty of plans for this chibi, collectible subtheme for 2019. LEGO Ideas Challenges You To Create Your Most Imaginative Voltron Scene

In case you don’t know yet, LEGO’s widely popular fan contest site, LEGO Rebrick, is now merging with LEGO Ideas to be next fan-based and crowd sourcing online platform rolled into one. So in case you have previously submitted entries on LEGO Rebrick, it will be wise to back them up since the site will no longer be accessible beginning September 1. With that out of the way, we now have our very first open contest inspired by the new LEGO Ideas Voltron (21311) set, and now hosted on the new LEGO Ideas site: the LEGO Ideas – Form Your Imaginative Voltron Scene.

Have you ever dreamed yourself into the fascinating universe of Voltron? We most certainly have! There are so many epic scenes that stimulate our imaginations of life beyond Earth. Here’s your chance to bring it all to life in LEGO bricks, as the LEGO Ideas team is looking for you to show us your most imaginative interpretation of one of the locations in which your favourite Voltron lion was found after all the lions were sent away into hiding for 10,000 years by King Alfor.

This contest challenges builders ages 13 and above to come up with their most imaginative Voltron scene for one of the five iconic lions that forms the mighty Voltron. The idea is to design a specific location or scene, bearing in mind the unique characteristics of each of the lion and the elements in which they are associated with – the Black Lion with the element of metal, Red Lion being found in the forest and connected with the element of fire, the Green Lion which is hidden in the forest and associated with all forms of life, the Blue Lion lying deep underwater and connected with the element of water, and the Yellow Lion hidden under rock formations and associated with the element of earth. Like with LEGO Rebrick, entries can either images made from actual LEGO sets (following the rules set forth by the contest organizers), or digitally made via LEGO Digital Designer.

Submission of entries for the most imaginative Voltron scene has already begun and will end on September 24. There will be one Grand Prize Winner and Two-Runner Ups which will be announced on October 30. The Grand Prize winner will receive:

One LEGO Ideas Voltron Defender of the Universe (21311) set signed by the LEGO Designer
A $500 USD shopping spree on LEGO.com

Fan Creates Custom LEGO Series M Madonna Minifigures for Queen of Pop’s 60th Birthday

On Thursday, August 16, Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone – better known by only her first name and the appellation of “Queen of Pop” – turned 60 years old. Media and fans everywhere are now paying tribute to her long and storied career in music. That includes Sam Hatmaker, an artist who was inspired to honor two milestones. Working on the fact that both Madonna and the LEGO Minifigure hit two major anniversary dates this 2018 – 60 for her and 40 for it – he decided to combine them by handcrafting a set of custom LEGO Series M Madonna Minifigures in honor of the Queen of Pop.

Hatmaker’s LEGO Series M Madonna Minifigures comprises of 20 minifigures of the Queen of Pop’s life and reign in the music industry. Two of these are a baby-Minifig Madonna from her birth in 1958, and the age-20 Madonna of 1978 (debut of LEGO Minifigures), during her art modeling and backup dancing days in New York, before her start with music.

The rest of the Minifigures chronicle some of Madonna’s notable songs and her different looks for each in their respective music videos, from “Material Girl” to “Vogue”. Some of them emulate skirts by using classic Minifigure slope pieces. One cheeky addition is Madonna in the buff from her controversial 1992 coffee table book (complete with appropriately-positioned censor bars).

Ask on how Madonna would react if she saw his custom LEGO Series M Madonna Minifigures collection, Sam Hatmaker remarked, “I think she would be flattered on how much respect I have for her. Madonna changed the world — and my life — in many ways. She pushed buttons and tried to open people’s minds, always with her tongue planted firmly in her cheek. She continues to make art, and push for us to love ourselves and others, and tries to make the world a better place.”

Next LEGO Seasonal BrickHeadz Set Revealed: The LEGO BrickHeadz Witch (40272)

We’re still halfway through the summer, and as it is typical with LEGO, we now have our next LEGO seasonal set spotted over at Denmark. The LEGO BrickHeadz line among other subthemes of myriad of LEGO sets, has also started to introduce this year its share of seasonal sets such as the Valentines Bee (40270) and Easter Bunny (40271). And for Halloween, we now have our BrickHeadz seasonal set for the scare month of November – the LEGO BrickHeadz Witch (40272).

This first image of the LEGO BrickHeadz Witch (40272) was first reported by Brickset, with the set being found by a certain Frantisek S. at the LEGO Store in Copenhagen, Denmark. The set features the typical image of a witch coming in a green and purple color scheme (which makes it look more like Marvel’s Green Goblin in my opinion). Similar to the first LEGO BrickHeadz sets, the LEGO BrickHeadz Witch (40272) also comes with brick-built accessories such as the ever famous cauldron, a spooky tree, and minifigure head to resemble a pumpkin.

There is no word yet on when it will be available in the US, but my best guess is that it will be offered by October 1. And like other similar sets, the LEGO BrickHeadz Witch (40272) will retail for $10. Keep on a look out over at shop.LEGO.com if you’re looking to bag this set a gift just in time for Halloween.
