Could you believe the number of promos and contests that LEGO and affiliated groups are launching just to send one lucky winner to LEGO House in Billund? First there’s one from LEGO Rebrick. And now we have a contest from hit LEGO podcast Beyond the Brick added to the mix.
Much like all the rest, this contest by Beyond the Brick is their part in the wide celebration of LEGO’s 60 Years of the Brick. The objective for interested participants is simple: they simply need to create a custom MOC that could be seamlessly incorporated with an official LEGO set.
Sounds simple? Well, the combined official and MOC LEGO display must be small enough to fit in a suitcase, as the winner will be taking it with them, intact, to Billund. The prize round-trip is scheduled for September 26, 2018 – October 2, 2018, in time for the Skærbæk Fan Weekend.
That’s one of the biggest LEGO conventions anywhere in the world, and the winner of Beyond the Brick’s contest will get to display their work there, which would also include a trip to LEGO House. They’ll get to room with the Beyond the Brick team during their stay, plus meals.
But while the contest winner gets to hang out at Billund during Skærbæk, the runners-up won’t be going away empty-handed. The second placer will receive sets of LEGO House (21037) and the Tree of Creativity (4000026). Third place gets only the LEGO House (21037) but hey, it’s a cool set.
For more information on Beyond the Brick’s 60 Years of LEGO Brick Skærbæk contest, you can check out the details and the rules at their Flickr group page here. The contest period is until April 30 only, so if you want a shot at flying to Billund, go join now.
With Disney and Lucasfilm dedicated to bringing out a Star Wars film for every year (and perhaps a new TV series soon after the end of Rebels), the LEGO Star Wars productline looks primed to never run out of new set, minifigure or polybag releases tying into the franchise.
By the way, last year’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi is already available on digital format, and soon to come out on Blu-Ray (next week to be precise). To celebrate that event (and to hype LEGO Star Wars more), the two franchises have collaborated to create a promotional short video.
Said video is a blend of stop-motion and 3D that features a 2-minute long abridged retelling of The Last Jedi (topped with a seconds-long wrap-up of the original Star Wars trilogy and The Force Awakens). The narrator humorously goes over the film’s events, referring to each character with funny nicknames.
Perhaps the highlight of this video is the scene where the death of Supreme Leader Snoke and the subsequent battle between his Royal Guard and the Kylo-Rey duo plays out. It might be a sneak preview of the LEGO Star Wars “Throne Room Duel” (75216) set, which would be cool.
All in all, it’s a nice riff on Episode VIII of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, with its contradictory box-office success and franchise fan criticism. If you’d like to own The Last Jedi on Blu-Ray, it comes out March 27. And do keep a lookout for more LEGO tie-ins soon.

After the release of the creative retelling of The Last Jedi in a 2-minute brick-built video, LEGO fan forums were set ablaze once again with a rumored topic that seemed to came out of the left field. Reliable LEGO insider Sir von Lego dropped a bomb of a rumor when he unequivocally announced the arrival of the next LEGO Star Wars set that is all too “cute and famous” to pass.
Announced via Eurobricks, Sir von Lego, to quote, says:
We will see a buildable “UCS-like set” (like BB-8) this year, comes from E VIII and is quite cute and famous.
Now speculations were rife that what Sir von Lego was alluding to was none other than a buildable Porg figure probably similar to the likes of what we saw at key places in London last December as part of LEGO’s promotional campaign. After all, as many would say, what is even cuter and famous than a wide-eyed Porg? Other Eurobricks members were quick to ride on the rumor band wagon, with almost everyone assuming that this UCS-like set will indeed be a tribute to Chewie’s favorite snack.
The brick-built Porgs that were used to promote the LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi sets in London last December.
Now for the record, I understand the mania over this cute avian species of Ahch-To, but we must clarify that Sir von Lego did not specifically mention that this next LEGO Star Wars set will actually be these cute and famous Porgs. In fact, he did not even mention that the set was referring to a creature or living thing of sorts. There were some fans that even interpreted it as a code to what was first initially thought to be as a reference to Cloud City – instead, there’s a new theory that the code ‘CC’ may now refer to a ‘Cute Creature’ instead.
Truth be told, I’m not much of a Porg fan, and if I will follow the rumor trail for what it is, I am compelled to say that there are a handful of new creatures and characters that were introduced in Star Wars canon that may fall under the cute and famous category. One in mind is the canine-like Vulptex referred to by the Resistance as Crystal Foxes, which were prominently featured towards the end of the film. They were even instrumental in the escape of the remaining Resistance forces as Luke tries to buy them some time.
Another candidate is the majestic Fathiers of Canto Bight. Used primarily as race horses to feed the gambling urges of the patrons of the casino-like planet, the Fathiers aided Rose and Finn with their escape from the police forces of the posh planet. We actually had a cool cameo to these Fathiers in LEGO’s recently released video. If you recall, there was a part on that short video where a bigfig of a Fathier was introduced in the scene.
Finally, you have another candidate who is also a native to planet Ahch-To. Dubbed as the Caretakers, they are actually female Lanai that serves as a sort of maintenance crew for the island where the first Jedi Temple was built on. Unlike the Porgs which is seen more as a cute nuisance, the Caretakers have a more significant role of preserving the old way of life on Ahch-To, and to make sure that everything is running smoothly on the solitary planet.
These are just some of the ideas that come to my mind under the cute creature category of The Last Jedi. Nevertheless, it is wise to consider all these things for what it is – a rumor – until such time that LEGO gives an official statement.
So what do you think? Are you inclined to believe that this may indeed be a LEGO Star Wars Porg set, or do you have any candidates on what could this cute and popular creature might be? Share what you think in the comments below.
Star Wars Episode VIII The Last Jedi is now available in digital format and to celebrate the home theatrical release of the film, the latest SW saga is now given the LEGO treatment, retelling two hours worth of material in a little over two minutes. Uploaded via StarWars.com official YouTube channel, the clip begins with a short back story of Luke Skywalker and how he ends up at the planet Crait, saving the lives of the remaining Resistance forces. Let’s watch this.
The 2-minute video is very different from the usual stop-motion LEGO Star Wars videos that LEGO usually release as part of their marketing campaign to promote their latest Star Wars sets. Unlike previous short videos, where the spotlight is on a particular tie-in set, this one is a complete retelling of TLJ in a completely animated LEGO film.
Much has been said about the possibility of us seeing a set that highlights Snoke’s Throne Room scene, so much so that Brickset has already included an entry in its database with the same title and tagged it as set 75216. Rumors also have it that a possible direct-to-consumer (D2C) LEGO Cloud City re-release may be on its way, and a reference to the sin city of the galaxy, Canto Bight, might also be given a tie-in LEGO Star Wars set. As a side note, I love that Fathier bigfig (or minifig, depending on how you look at it) and would be excited to know if LEGO will indeed include it in an official set.
Now we must all bear in mind that these are all speculation at this point, but if in case that LEGO might be actually teasing on future sets in this video, then this is one clever marketing strategy indeed.
Thanks to Rebel Scum for consolidating our thoughts on the matter.
Last week, LEGO finally started serious promotion of their next upcoming LEGO Ideas set, the TRON Legacy Light Cycle (21314). From its box art preview to a cool 3D-animated teaser, it’s all systems go towards building a great consumer hype for this sweet new set coming out later this year.
But what if you don’t have to wait for “later this year”? What if you can get the Ideas TRON Legacy Light Cycle (21314) as early as the end of this month? Fans in the UK are in for a treat; they’re playing host for the set’s official launch event.
This March 29, at London’s Leicester Square LEGO Store, the British design team of BrickBrosUK – which submitted the LEGO Ideas Light Cycle project, based on the 2010 film TRON Legacy – will be making an appearance as the guests of honor for the launch event. You know what that means: autograph opportunity!
Just like with previous LEGO Ideas set launches, the BrickBrosUK team will be ready to autograph advance purchases of their Light Cycle (21314) sets for eager buyers, making each box a collectors’ item. Do note however that they’ll be in the Leicester LEGO Store only for 4-7 PM GMT.
The LEGO Ideas TRON LEGACY Light Cycle (21314) is composed of the light cycle model itself, a brick base, and three minifigures (Sam Flynn, Quorra and Clu) in one full-to-the-brim package. Its release will follow in the wake of the previous Ideas set, Flagship Leviathan: Ship in a Bottle (21313).
From its humble origins as a Washington, DC children’s furniture store in 1948, Toys ‘R’ Us became one of the biggest retail giants for toys and other children’s products in the world. But that was a long time ago, and the reality now is that TRU’s closing all its stores.
With all of their stores in the US shutting down operations within a few months, one must wonder what’ll happen to the products they still have on shelves and in stock. Liquidations are already underway to clear them out, but certain products were put by TRU on a “NO” list.
That list also happens to include LEGO, in particular the latest sets that have just started releasing. Rather than included them with the ongoing product liquidations (seeing them go for so much less), TRU will now be returning their LEGO stocks to LEGO, without any attempt to sell any sets.
The above however doesn’t quite answer what’ll become of the LEGO Toys “R” Us exclusives such as certain polybags or the Bricktober sets, many of which would’ve already been planned for by LEGO throughout 2018. Since LEGO Bricktober is tied to TRU, giving them to other retail chains won’t do.
An alternative for LEGO’s TRU exclusives now that the US stores they would’ve been shipped to will no longer be, might be to re-label them or release the sets and polybags in their own stores. This is similar to Funko which had started selling their TRU-exclusive flocked Geoffrey figure themselves.
Liquidation of most other products in the US Toys “R” Us stores will be kicking off as early as this week. It’s a sad day indeed for the old toy giant, though there’s been talk that they might possibly sell their name and logos to interested buyers for legacy branding.
It looks like we’re getting another polybag anytime soon. Though I have to admit that I may not be that excited for this one as compared to the prospect of landing on a LEGO Marvel Guardians’ Ship (30525) polybag, I’m still looking forward on grabbing this one. Rebel Scum has shared the news that a new LEGO Star Wars Solo Imperial TIE Fighter (30381) polybag may hit stores next month, coinciding with the release of its larger LEGO Star Wars Solo cousins.
We haven’t received any updates yet on when and where this latest polybag might be found, but some have been suggesting an April 20 (tentatively) release date, alongside with the official release of the LEGO Star Han Solo sets.

There’s still a few months left before Incredibles 2, sequel to the 2004 3D-animated superhero film from Disney-Pixar, comes into cinemas. While we wait however, the merchandising is in full swing, especially from LEGO with its various tie-insets announced back in the New York Toy Fair. But there’s more.
Apparently those who already have gotten the LEGO Incredibles sets found a very interesting tidbit printed at the back of their building instruction sheets. This may well be official confirmation that there’s going to be a LEGO Incredibles videogame coming later this year. The rumors have been circulating since January.
The promotional image from the set instruction sheets (shown above) also lists down all the platforms the LEGO Incredibles videogame will be released for. Much like any recent LEGO game from WB Interactive and Traveller’s Tales, it’ll be available on PC, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Sony PS4.
Apart from this teaser, there is no further information about the LEGO Incredibles videogame like a release date (as most LEGO videogames run almost under the same gameplay mechanics anyway). It’s interesting to note however, that The Incredibles is the first Pixar property to be given a standalone LEGO game adaptation.
