Just a disclaimer – this listing is based on several trusted sources from the LEGO fan community, and eventually compiled by Pricevortex. And though Pricevortex’s predictions are almost 100% correct most of the time, we should always take these things with a grain of salt. Let’s take a look.

Last month, LEGO gave us a teaser of our next LEGO Harry Potter promotional in the form of the LEGO Harry Potter The Monster Book of Monsters (30628). Aside from the set’s building instructions now posted over at LEGO’s Customer Service Portal, it now seems that LEGO Shop@Home has also updated its listing to now include a full product page for this brick-built critter. Check out its description below.
Kids can recreate one of the most memorable scenes from Harry Potter™ and the Prisoner of Azkaban™ with the cool, collectible LEGO® Harry Potter The Monster Book of Monsters (30628) toy. When Harry receives new school books for his third year at Hogwarts™, the Book of Monsters scurries around the room trying to bite him! Likewise, when this LEGO model is pulled across a flat surface, its mouth opens and closes. The set also includes a LEGO Draco Malfoy™ minifigure decorated in his school uniform.
The brown, LEGO® magical book is decorated with teeth, straps, and studs.
A mechanism opens and closes the book’s mouth when it is dragged across a flat surface.
With 320 pieces and measuring over 4” (12cm) long and 3” (10cm) wide, this buildable Harry Potter™ Monster Book of Monsters makes a great Christmas or birthday gift for kids aged 10 and up.
From the get-go, LEGO makes it clear that this set is intended to be a freebie to be made available anytime soon. And now that it has made its official appearance at LEGO Shop@Home, it’s just a matter of time when this promotional set will be offered. In fact, The Brick Fan was able to confirm that the LEGO Harry Potter The Monster Book of Monsters will be offered sometime in January for qualifying LEGO Harry Potter purchases worth $75 and above. If this proves to be true, then we can most likely expect two promotional items in January, the other one in the form of the LEGO Ideas Vintage Car (40448). It’s a really great way to start your LEGO 2021 shopping if such is the case.
If you’ve set your eyes on the upcoming LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Moments sets and are planning to get them as well, then having The Book of Monsters added to your LEGO HP collection is certainly a welcomed treat. Just be sure to keep tabs with LEGO Shop@Home and here on our blogsite for further updates.

It looks like brick-built books are in these recent days. In case you missed it, the LEGO Group has now unveiled another new wave of LEGO Harry Potter sets that cleverly complements the storybooks behind the theme. The LEGO Harry Potter HogwartsMoment series follows a 2-in-1 design that is somehow similar to that of the LEGO Disney Storybook collection from last year.
This latest collection of LEGO Harry Potter sets features some of the more popular classes in Hogwarts Castle during the early year of Harry and the gang. These include the Transfiguration Class under the tutelage of Professor McGonagall, the Potions Class with Professor Snape, the Herbology Class of Professor Sprout, and the Charms Class under the guidance of Professor Flitwick. There are plenty of exciting things about sets such as their new minifigures and pieces. But what I feel like the most outstanding play feature of these sets is the fact that you can combine them to form several adjacently connected classrooms. Pretty neat in my opinion.
This new LEGO Harry Potter collection will be available in LEGO brand stores and online beginning January 1, 2021, retailing for $29.99 per set. Check out the following images below for reference and you may also visit LEGO Shop@Home if you wish to add them to your wishlist of must-have 2021 LEGO sets. Likewise, you can click on these affiliate links below if you wish to know more about these latest new-for-2021 sets.
It looks like we’ll be building the official brick version of this iconic Harry Potter creature (or thing, whichever you may want to call it) any time soon. This time around, LEGO has just revealed the LEGO Harry Potter Book of Monsters (30628), together with its official building instructions.
The reveal came via LEGO Shop@Home’s kids’ section where we get to see this long-overdue LEGO HP set. If you recall, news about this set came out mid-October, with the LEGO Harry Potter Book of Monsters initially spotted as a gift-with-purchase (GWP) set in a brochure found in a LEGO Discovery Center Store in Shanghai, China.
Details regarding its international release were scant during that time, and now, LEGO HP fans, in general, will be glad to know that we will be seeing this official brick-version of the Book of Monsters anytime soon. Other than these official images, we only have its published building instructions in the US as proof that this set is just around the corner, perhaps as a GWP set as well.
The LEGO Harry Potter Book of Monsters (30628) set comes in at 319 pieces and comes with a Draco Malfoy minifigure. It measures almost 5 inches in width and comes with a pair of wheels at the bottom that allows it to move around while making its jaw mechanism move up and down similar to how it is seen in the movies.
Again, there is not much info on LEGO’s website as of this time but I can bet my bricks that this will be a substantial GWP set, perhaps in line with a LEGO Harry Potter promotions that will launch as part of LEGO’s Black Friday sales. If you wish to give it a try and build your own version of this set, then you may download the LEGO Harry Potter Book of Monsters building instructions right here, and see if you have the parts needed to come up with this cute brick monstrosity. However, be advised that you have to settle for a sightless brick critter considering that the official version has stickers for its eyes and title.
Thanks to Brick Fanatics for the heads up, with additional info from the Brickfinder as well. I’ll provide you with more updates as new info comes in, but in the meantime, you may also want to check some of the LEGO Harry Potter sets that are rumored to be released in 2021.
If you’re keeping a watchful eye on some of the things that are happening in the LEGO community scene, then you might have noticed that last month was a roller coaster ride of rumors and teases that gave us a glimpse of what we can expect from LEGO next year. Given with such an enormous amount of info from the leaky faucet, let’s take time to sum up everything that we have learned so far about the upcoming LEGO sets for the first half (H1) of 2021.
This is not the first time that we will be getting an aerial fire fighting helicopter, as we can see from this LEGO City Fire Helicopter (60010) set from 2013.

60276 Police Prisoner Transport (244 pieces, €19.99)

76173 Marvel: Ghost Rider Car (212 pieces, €19.99)
76174 Marvel: Spider-Man’s Monster Truck (439 pieces, €49.99)

76182 DC: Batman Cowl 18+ (410 pieces, €59.99)
76187 Marvel: Carnage Helmet 18+ (565 pieces, €59.99)
LEGO Super Mario
And of course, LEGO obviously has more plans for its latest collaboration with Nintendo. In 2021, we can expect another series of Character Pack similar to its LEGO Super Mario Character Pack Series 1 (71361)
71380 Starter Course Set 2 (366 pieces, €59.99)
71381 Expansion Set (160 pieces, €19.99)
71382 Expansion Set (267 pieces, €29.99)
71383 Expansion Set (374 pieces, €39.99)
71384 Power-Up/Mario Costume Pack (18 pieces, €9.99)
71385 Power-Up/Mario Costume Pack (13 pieces, €9.99)
71386 Character Pack 2 (€3.99 per blind bag)
The names of these upcoming LEGO sets under the Super Mario theme are understandably kept under wraps, but from the looks of it, we can expect a new Starter Course set, 3 Expansion Sets, 2 additional Super Mario costumes, or Power-Ups, and another series of Character Packs. The Starter Course Set 2 is quite interesting and we’ll have to see how this will turn out.
LEGO Harry Potter
Rumor has it that the LEGO Harry Potter theme will receive its Disney-like series of Storybook Adventures, but in this case, based on the various classrooms of the iconic Hogwarts Castle. Each LEGO Harry Potter Storybook playset is expected to retail for €29.99, with a release date of January 2021.
Yeah, I know it may sound redundant already but hey, the Millennium Falcon still holds a special place in LEGO Star Wars fandom. As proof of that, we can expect another LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon Microfighter similar to what we have in set 75193 to be part of a repertoire of upcoming LEGO sets.
This is an exhaustive list though since we can still expect plenty of new information to come in as we approach the last quarter of this year. However, since LEGO is quite mum about these things, for now, I highly suggest that we consider all of these things for the rumors that they really are for the time being. Unless we hear LEGO’s official press release and product reveal regarding its upcoming LEGO sets, then let’s take this piece of news with a healthy amount of salt.
In case you missed it, the LEGO VIP Rewards Center has a neat little incentive for LEGO Harry Potter fans. You can get extra LEGO VIP points by taking a short (but a bit challenging) quiz that tests how deep you are in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Here are the details as posted over at the Rewards Center.
How Much Do You Know About Harry?
Take our VIP Quiz now. Test your knowledge about the world of Harry Potter and you could earn 150 bonus VIP points (the same amount that you would win when you catch the Golden Snitch).
There’s a total of 9 questions to be answered and you need to get at least 6 of them correctly to earn those sweet, extra LEGO VIP points. I’m not really into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter being an average fan that I am, so I have to conjure some good ‘ol search magic to answer most of them. Additionally, all of these questions have something to do with the iconic Diagon Alley which is now rendered once again in LEGO bricks in the form of the recently released LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley (75978).
The nice thing about this particular LEGO VIP quiz is that you get to know the correct answer and the results stay listed in your account as long as the promo is up. Just for fun, I’m sharing the answers here in alphabetical order so you just try to figure which answer goes to what question.
Five
Floo powder
Flourish and Blotts
Knockturn Alley
Owl
Quality Quidditch Supplies
The Daily Prophet
Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes
Wiseacre’s
The 150 extra LEGO VIP points may not sound that much, but still, its a great way to stack up on those points without making any LEGO purchase. There’s no particular mention of any deadline, but it will be wise to take this fun little quiz as soon as you can.
The LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley (75978) is now available at LEGO Shop@Home.

After the news came out of another LEGO Harry Potter set that is being still being kept under wraps, the LEGO fan community was quick to share several box art images of the LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley (75978) over unofficial channels (aka leaks). As always, we’re not going to share these images here out of respect for LEGO’s established embargo. However, these are some of the things that we know so far about this very exciting set.
It’s the second-largest, and next most expensive LEGO Harry Potter set as of to date.
Though the title holder for being the largest LEGO Harry Potter set in terms of piece count still belongs to the Hogwarts Castle (71043) coming in at 6,020 pieces, the latest brick rendition of the Diagon Alley comes in second place with a total of 5,544 pieces included in its set. What is interesting here is that the latter comes with a similar price tag of $399.99 even if it comes short of around 400 pieces. This is probably because a lot of baseplates are used in this set, especially when you realize that it is primarily a modular set, which leads us to our second observation.
It follows a modular design and plenty of baseplates.
If you were following the trail of bread crumbs over at Instagram (#legoleaks), you will immediately notice that this latest LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley (75978) observes a modular design that highlights the following locations. These shops are designed in pairs, giving the set four distinct modular builds.
Ollivanders Wand Shop and Scribbulus Writing Implements
Quality Quidditch Supplies and The Daily Prophet
Flourish & Blotts Bookseller and Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlor
Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes and Knockturn Alley
Each module seems to rest on a singular baseplate, which may be one of the reasons why it is similarly priced to that of the LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle. It is also interesting to note how LEGO designers opted for this ‘dual’ approach in creating these shops to somehow maintain a balance between showing as many details as they can about the famous Harry Potter marketplace, and offering it within a reasonable retail price. This is a good decision, in my opinion, considering also that they were able to package this for LEGO fans 16 years old and above.
The Minifigures
The minifigures in this set does not disappoint as well. I’m personally glad that LEGO opted to offer actual minifigures in its LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley (75978), instead of opting for nanofigures as what they did with the Hogwarts Castle back in 2018. Based on what we’ve seen so far, these are the 14 minifigures included in this set:
Rubeus Hagrid
Fred Weasley
George Weasley
Molly Weasley
Ginny Weasley (younger version)
Ron Weasley (younger version)
Hermione Granger (younger version)
Harry Potter (younger version)
Draco Malfoy (younger version)
Lucius Malfoy
Gilderoy Lockhart
Garrick Ollivander
Florean Fortescue
Daily Prophet Photographer
Those who knew their LEGO Harry Potter minifigures will immediately point out that the last two in this list are first-ever LEGO minifig renditions of the said characters. It may be said that they only had a brief moment in the Harry Potter universe, but I love how LEGO pays attention to these details and even gave such random characters like the Daily Prophet Photographer the LEGO treatment that they deserve.
Will it come with a gift-with-purchase set?
Yes, the LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley (75978) will certainly come with a gift-with-purchase or GWP set like other new LEGO HP sets slated to arrive next month. As I’ve mentioned in an earlier report, these promotional freebies will come in the form of a polybag and the LEGO BrickHeadz Hagrid and Buckbeak (40412). There’s seems to be no specific freebie unique for the Diagon Alley, but having these promotional items thrown into your shopping carts are certainly a welcomed gesture.
As a final note, LEGO has not yet announced an official release date for the LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley (75978) as of this posting. I hope an official press release will be out by next week, and I’ll keep my radars up until then.
The leaky faucet is back and this time, the news is all about the next wave of LEGO GWP or gift-with-purchase sets that will arrive next month. It is no secret that LEGO will be putting the spotlight on its line of LEGO Harry Potter sets next month, with so much in store under this theme. Given that we will also be having the LEGO Harry Potter CMF Series 2(71028) and a new, yet to be officially revealed LEGO Diagon Alley(75978), it is but expected that LEGO will also be offering a couple of LEGO Harry Potter GWP sets to sweeten the deal.
And though we’re just counting the days before the official release of the September 2020 LEGO Store Calendar, we can now confirm what next month’s promotional deals will be. As it turns out, we can expect two LEGO Harry Potter GWP sets to be offered at this time. And our sources indicate that it will be the following:
LEGO Harry Potter and Hedwig: Owl Delivery (30420) polybag
LEGO BrickHeadz Hagrid and Buckbeak (40412)
LEGO Harry Potter and Hedwig: Owl Delivery (30420)
Qualifying purchases of LEGO Harry Potter sets worth $40 or more.
Promo period will be from September 1 to 15 or while supplies last.
Will be offered both in-store and online via LEGO Shop@Home.
LEGO BrickHeadz Hagrid and Buckbeak (40412)
Qualifying purchases of LEGO Harry Potter sets worth $100 or more.
Promo period will be from September 1 to 15 or while supplies last.
Will be offered both in-store and online via LEGO Shop@Home.
Valued at $19.99, this collectible BrickHeadz set comes in at 270 pieces.
These LEGO Harry Potter GWP sets are a great incentive in getting the next wave of LEGO HP sets, especially if you time your purchases just right. The price points for the qualifying purchases are also reasonable considering that you will be getting these two incentives for free if you manage to have single-receipt purchases from these licensed themes.
Be on the lookout at your local LEGO Store starting next week, especially when the next LEGO Store Calendar begins to roll out. So what do you think about our next LEGO freebies? Do you think its a great deal? Let me know what you think in the comments section below.
