LEGO Shop@Home has been updated once again, and this time around, their latest LEGO Super Mario Wave 3 sets have been officially revealed! If you recall, LEGO has given us a sneak peek of this wave’s newest Character Packs. There’s also been news of more Power-Up costume packs to complement this latest wave of offers, plus several expansion sets including the recently spilled Bowser’s Airship (71391).
And thankfully, LEGO has now given us an official reveal of these upcoming sets, with a release date of August 1st. After their accidental reveal over at LEGO’s Japanese online catalog several weeks ago, LEGO has finally listed these new LEGO Star Wars The Mandalorian summer 2021 sets over at LEGO Shop@Home. These three new sets are all slated to be released in August and feature some of the Season 2 highlights of Disney+’s first successful Star Wars live-action series.
As of date, these leaves with seven officially revealed LEGO sets under the Mandalorian flag, plus one brick-built statue of Grogu as one of the series pivotal characters. We are still yet to see an official listing of The Mandalorian Forge (75319) over LEGO’s online shopping portal, though I suspect that it may follow anytime soon.

The LEGO Group has made it one of its key missions to continually bring innovation in creating its products from sustainable materials. And after the successful launch of its first plant-based set, LEGO is now looking at other alternatives and has revealed its prototype brick made entirely from recyclable plastic.
This new prototype brick uses PET plastic from recycled water bottles and is durable enough to withstand LEGO’s rigorous quality and safety requirements. It’s a big step towards LEGO’s sustainability efforts, especially when you consider the fact that a 1-liter plastic bottle has enough materials to create ten 2×4 LEGO bricks.

The LEGO Group reveals the first prototype brick made from recycled plastic
Wednesday 23rd June 2021: The LEGO Group today unveiled a prototype brick made from recycled plastic, the latest step in its journey to make LEGO products from sustainable materials.
The new prototype brick, which uses PET plastic from discarded bottles, is the first brick made from recycled material to meet the company’s strict quality and safety requirements.
A team of more than 150 people is working to find sustainable solutions for LEGO products. Over the past three years, materials scientists and engineers tested over 250 variations of PET materials and hundreds of other plastic formulations. The result is a prototype brick that meets several of their quality, safety, and play requirements – including clutch power.
Vice President of Environmental Responsibility at the LEGO Group, Tim Brooks said: “We are super excited about this breakthrough. The biggest challenge on our sustainability journey is rethinking and innovating new materials that are as durable, strong, and high quality as our existing bricks – and fit with LEGO elements made over the past 60 years. With this prototype brick, we’re able to showcase the progress we’re making.”
Uncompromised quality and safety
It will be some time before bricks made from recycled material appear in LEGO product boxes. The team will continue testing and developing the PET formulation and then assess whether to move to the pilot production phase. This next phase of testing is expected to take at least a year.
Brooks said: “We know kids care about the environment and want us to make our products more sustainable. Even though it will be a while before they will be able to play with bricks made from recycled plastic, we want to let kids know we’re working on it and bring them along on the journey with us. Experimentation and failure are important parts of learning and innovation. Just as kids build, unbuild, and rebuild with LEGO bricks at home, we’re doing the same in our lab.”
The prototype is made from recycled PET sourced from suppliers in the United States that use US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) approved processes to ensure quality. On average, a one-liter plastic PET bottle provides enough raw material for ten 2 x 4 LEGO bricks.
The journey towards more sustainable products
The patent-pending material formulation increases the durability of PET to make it strong enough for LEGO bricks. The innovative process uses a bespoke compounding technology to combine the recycled PET with strengthening additives.
The recycled prototype brick is the latest development in making the LEGO Group’s products more sustainable. In 2020, the company announced it will begin removing single-use plastic from its boxes. In 2018, it began producing elements from bio-polyethylene (bio-PE), made from sustainably sourced sugarcane. Many LEGO sets contain elements made from bio-PE which is perfect for making smaller, softer pieces such as trees, branches, leaves, and accessories for minifigures. Bio-PE is not currently suitable for making harder, stronger elements such as the iconic LEGO bricks.
Brooks said: “We’re committed to playing our part in building a sustainable future for generations of children. We want our products to positively impact the planet, not just with the play they inspire, but also with the materials we use. We still have a long way to go on our journey but are pleased with the progress we’re making.”
The LEGO Group’s focus on sustainable material innovation is just one of several different initiatives the company has in place to make a positive impact. After going through 25 product ideas, the LEGO Ideas Review Team has finally made its selection with the announcement of the LEGO Ideas Third 2020 Review Stage results. Among 25 product ideas that reached 10,000 supporters over at the LEGO Ideas website from September 2020 to January 2021, the review board is finally ready to share their decision.
The title and honor of becoming the next official LEGO Ideas set goes to the original creation of LEGO fan designer Sandro Quattrini (aka Roses Must Build), the LEGO Ideas Motorized Lighthouse. Though this is not the first time that LEGO offered a brick-built lighthouse, the LEGO Ideas Motorized Lighthouse will be the first to be featured on such a large scale with automated functionalities. Sandro’s original concept is to create the lighthouse up to 47 cm. tall, making it up to scale with nanofigures. It also includes Power Functions to make the base of the light brick rotate on top of the lighthouse. Watch the video demonstration below to have a better look.
As a LEGO Ideas fan, I am truly supportive of LEGO fan designers who took the time and effort of designing and promoting their original creations. Love it or hate it, the LEGO Ideas Motorized Lighthouse is no doubt a work of art and a testament to the ingenuity and skills of LEGO fan designers. It’s impractical to expect that everyone will be happy with the decision of the LEGO Ideas Review Board, but at the end of the day, the LEGO Ideas platform is a celebration of the talent and skills of LEGO fan builders and the overwhelming support that they receive from the community. So again, a huge congratulations to Sandro for this original creation.
Looking forward, the First 2021 LEGO Ideas Review Stage is about to be wrapped up, with a record-breaking total of 57 entries being currently in review. The results of this review cycle are slated to be announced sometime this fall, and I’m pretty excited at what original creation or creations, will eventually be selected to become the next LEGO Ideas set(s).

In case you missed it, Brickset has shared several images of what could be our next minifigure pack coming from a licensed theme. The LEGO Minions Kung Fu Training Minifigure Pack (40511) is a great way to kick off the LEGO Minions The Rise of Gru theme and features most of the main characters of its tie-in film.
The LEGO Minions Kung Fu Training Minifigure Pack includes Gru, Bellow Bottom, Bob, and Kevin together with an assortment of LEGO pieces to recreate a martial arts training dummy and some weapons worthy of a despicable underling. It’s a great way to have Gru as an official minifigure, which is also included in the larger Unstoppable Bike Chase (75549) set. LEGO is also throwing in an exclusive minifigure in the form of the stylish villain, Bellow Bottom. This is a great incentive to get this Minifigure Pack since this is the only set where she is included. And of course, if you wish to build your own troop of minions – and if you’re planning to complete all the sets under the theme – then getting this minifigure pack gives you a total of 15 cute yellow villains to command.

Though the rest of the LEGO Minions The Rise of Gru sets are now available for purchase, the LEGO Minions Kung Fu Training Minifigure Pack (40511) is expected to arrive on July 1st, and will most likely retail for $15. I will update this post once they make their appearance over at LEGO Shop@Home.
LEGO VIP members are in for a treat starting this week. Because as mentioned in the June 2021 LEGO Store Calendar, from June 21 to 30, 2021, LEGO VIP members in the US can now get the LEGO Swing Ship Ride (50067546) as their next gift-with-purchase (GWP) set.
Every single-receipt purchase of any LEGO sets or products worth $85 during the promo period, will entitle you to this nice Children’s Day giveaway. The set clocks in at 152 pieces with a retail value of $13, and features a movable swing ship on what seems to be an 8×8 base. It also comes with a 2×4 tile with a message, Happy Children’s Day 2021. I’m not quite sure if the tile is printed, but it will be nice if LEGO can throw in an exclusively printed piece.
If you also noticed, the June 2021 LEGO Store Calendar has initially shown that the tile piece mentions a LEG GODT 2021 message (which means Play Well in Danish). Frankly, I prefer this particular version since it captures the essence of what it means to play with LEGO bricks. In any case, I guess that there might be regional variations with regards to this LEGO Swing Ship Ride (5006746) GWP considering that Children’s Day in the US is usually celebrated in June.

The LEGO Ideas blog has given us a pretty exciting update. Because we might as well count the hours before the LEGO Ideas Third 2020 Review Stage results are finally rolled out. The reveal is scheduled for June 22, 2021, at 3PM CEST.
If you recall at the start of this year, the LEGO Ideas platform kicked off 2021 with 25 qualifiers that managed to enter the LEGO Ideas Third 2020 Review Stage. And now after six months of careful consideration, the results of these careful deliberations are ready to be announced in public.
To make the announcement even more exciting, the LEGO Ideas Team is also giving away a LEGO Ideas FRIENDS Central Perk (21319) set signed by its fan designer Aymeric Fievet. You simply need to comment and share on the LEGO Ideas blog site on what product idea do you think will have the honor of being the next official LEGO Ideas set. After officially revealing the LEGO Adidas Originals Superstars (10282) brick-built trainer, it looks like LEGO is planning to offer a miniature version of this display set. Its much smaller counterpart, the LEGO Mini Adidas Originals Superstars (40486), has been spotted in the wild and is expected to be offered alongside its larger cousin.

Shared by Brickfinder, this particular LEGO Mini Adidas Originals Superstars set was believed to be spotted in South Korea as shared by a fellow eagle-eyed LEGO fan. Details are scant regarding its availability in other regions but after seeing it teased by LEGO via the designer video for set 10282, then we can be confident that it might be available worldwide as well. I’m inclined to believe that LEGO has plans of offering it as a gift-with-purchase (GWP) set to accompany the LEGO Adidas Originals Superstars (10282) on its launch date in July 1, 2021.
I personally like how this mini-version turned out, starting from its box art and to the brick-built mini-shoe and minifigure. If you will look closely at the minifigure via the designer video, you might notice the sticker outline on its 2×4 shoebox costume. I have to say that it is way better if LEGO opted for a printed version of this. It’s nice to see this little guy along with other collectible minifigure characters such as the Brick Suit Girl and Brick Suit Guy from LEGO CMF Series 18 (71021). But I guess we just have to wait and see until next month to get a closer look.

After officially revealing its brick-built trainer and display set, LEGO has now released an accompanying designer video for the LEGO Adidas Originals Superstar (10282). LEGO Designer Florian Müller gives us a walkthrough of how this iconic pop-culture symbol was translated into life-like, LEGO bricks. Watch the video below.
Love it or hate it (I know some LEGO fans are not that pleased with LEGO’s choice of product offerings lately), it cannot be denied that from an aesthetic standpoint, the design of the LEGO Adidas Originals Superstar (10282) is on a class of its own. And like the recently released LEGO Ideas Typewriter, this particular true-to-life set is designed with realism in mind. Built at a comparable US size of 7 1/2, the complete build features the shoe’s iconic shape and classic stripes, all combined to give that organic shape and feel. Florian and the other LEGO designers working on this model even went a step further by packaging this set in one unique box art that even mimics an actual shoe box.
The decorative elements such as the Adidas logo and Superstar brand are all accurately printed as well. Inquisitive LEGO builders may also find it interesting to discover that this set also introduces a new 5×5 dome element that may come in pretty handy in creating those smooth edges and corners.
Finally, and I guess you may have noticed it already while watching the video, LEGO seems to be teasing on an upcoming gift-with-purchase (GWP) set in the form of this miniature LEGO Adidas Superstar. Word has it that this little replica and minifigure might be a GWP that will be offered as part of an incentive of purchasing the LEGO Adidas Originals Superstar (10282) next month. I’ll talk more about it in my next post.

Third-party retailers are at it again with its unintended LEGO spills and leaks, and this time around Amazon Australia has given us a pretty good first look at a new and massive LEGO Super Mario Bowser’s Airship (71391).
This latest addition to the Nintendo-inspired theme seems to join the rest of the LEGO Super Mario summer 2021 sets, including its recently revealed Character Pack Series 3 (71394). Based on the following images and like other expansion sets before it, this LEGO version of Bowser’s Airship will also include play features that allow it to be connected to either the Mario or Luigi Starter Sets. The build itself has an expandable stern and bow, which is pretty cool actually. The set is based on Bowser’s flying fortress and includes brick-built versions of Rocky Wrench, Pirate Goomba, and Yoshi’s arch-enemy, the iconic Kamek the Magikoopa.
Clocked at 1,152 pieces, this next LEGO offering will retail at around $100 once it is available for retail on August 1, 2021. I will update this post once more information comes in or once it is listed over at LEGO Shop@Home.
