From a certain point of view, when one thinks of a greeting card, especially in the US, the mental image of the card will likely carry “Hallmark” as its brand. LEGO probably won’t supplant established greeting card labels like Hallmark with this quirky new product they’ll introduce soon, but brick-buildings fans will surely love it.
Newly revealed by LEGO this week according to German news source Promo Bricks, the LEGO Greeting Card (853906) is exactly what its name entails, and more. Being a LEGO product it has bricks and a minifigure, all part of an interactive greeting that goes beyond mere written words from you.
The set’s package viewed from the front is half box and half card. You can write your dedications on the left-hand side then unfold it to reveal a background for the LEGO pieces stored at right. These 40 elements assemble to form a stud launcher platform, to shoot the scoring balloons on the provided background.
LEGO Greeting Card (853906) also includes a minifigure with alternate head and hair-pieces to change between male or female characters, and roller skate elements that can attach to the feet. For the most part the carnival theme of the card and set can make it all-purpose for most general occasions.
If you fancy sending a greeting to a LEGO fan later this year, then you can wait for the LEGO Greeting Card set (853906), priced at $4.99 on Shop@Home to arrive with many other new LEGO products on March 1.
When LEGO fans first saw the special set Minifigure Factory (5005356), made to commemorate 40 years of the LEGO minifigure, some might have wondered if “making” one’s own official minifigures as shown here was possible. LEGO answered that question when it began tests of an actual Minifigure Factory, a custom printing service in the vein of their earlier Mosaic Maker.
Over eight months have passed since the LEGO Minifigure Factory was first tested in Copenhagen, Denmark, the home nation of The LEGO Group. Following this intensive trail period, the Minifigure Factory will be made available for the first time in a commercial capacity, in London’s primary LEGO Store: Leicester Square.
As Promo Bricks tells us, the LEGO branded store at Leicester Square shall be the first in the world with a Minifigure Factory for making custom minifigs. This is another “first” honor for that particular retail location, which has seen set unveilings and other events in the past. They also got the first LEGO Mosaic Maker system in the world.
How does the commercial version of the LEGO Minifigure Factory work? First a customer of the Leicester Square LEGO Store must buy a £10.99 Minifigure Factory Pack. This pack is canned at the Factory machine, along with the customer’s name entry, to open a minifigure design interface. They get to choose figure parts to assemble then do a custom design on the torso (only the torso for now). Lastly, they select their custom minifig’s other accessories while it’s being printed.
All in all, the LEGO Minifigure Factory looks to be a popular service for the more discerning LEGO fans with extra cash to spend; after all, almost £11 for a single minifigure does sound steep even if the buyer got to customize and accessorize it. Time will tell when another Minifigure Factory unit is announced, and where in the world it might be located next.
“The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part” is now set to complete its first week in the box office, While its opening weekend saw a number 1 debut despite being markedly less than the premiere of the first film in 2014, LEGO and Warner Bros. are still positive thanks to good critic reviews.
In the meantime, a good number of new LEGO sets tying in to the animated blockbuster sequel have been available on retail and online. Among them are character pods for the film’s characters such as Emmet (853874) and Sweet Mayhem (853875), previewed only last month but are now available on LEGO Shop@Home.
Both LEGO Movie 2 pods are expectedly similar to all products of this theme, containing a character minifigure (or mini-doll figure in case of Sweet Mayhem) plus plenty of accessories that can be held in the character’s hands, attached to their body, or assembled with the pods themselves to create a crane for 853874 and DJ station for 853875, respectively.
These pods also have on their front lids some lenticular images that alternate between showing the faces of Emmet or Mayhem, and the “LEGO Movie 2” logo. It’s plain to see that these LEGO Movie 2 Pods can easily cater to sectors of the general LEGO fan base, with minifigure Emmet geared towards “traditional” LEGO designs and mini-doll figure Sweet Mayhem for the LEGO Friends market due to similar aesthetics.
Both the Emmet (853874) and Mayhem (853875) “Lego Movie 2” character pods are priced at $8.99 on Shop@Home. Several other movie tie-ins are already either similarly available to these two, or will be so by late February or early March.
This piece of news is rather odd, but in a relatively good way. If you recall back in 2017, one of the better sets that LEGO has released under the LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi subtheme is the new Resistance Bomber (75188) set consisting of 778 pieces and 5 minifigures. One of these minifigures was simply referred to as Resistance Bomber Pilot, in honor supposedly of the pilot that coursed the bomber that destroyed the Dreadnaught at the opening sequence of The Last Jedi. It was a cliff hanger of a scene, with the entire crew of the lone Resistance Bomber eventually sacrificing their selves in order to carry out their critical mission. It is a great scene that eventually found its way as an official LEGO set. However, devout LEGO Star Wars fans quickly noticed the small, but very unpleasant inconsistency that this particular LEGO set has, and LEGO was quick to respond.

According to an excellent summary written by The Brothers Brick, this nagging inconsistency was eventually addressed by LEGO. So what was it exactly? With the release of The Last Jedi: Cobalt Squadron novel, which is considered as part of Star Wars canon, the generic Resistance Bomber Pilot now has a name, and LEGO eventually re-issued a new minifigure to accurately represent his character. Named as Finch Dallow, LEGO has now confirmed that they will be re-issuing, or has issued an update already, to correct this matter. Though Finch was only given 5-seconds of screen time on the big screen, it was enough to give us a close look at the character.

As you may have noticed already, Finch’s character is very much different from his generic minifigure rendition that was released with the Resistance Bomber (75188) set. Thankfully, the matter was addressed by LEGO when it gave its official response to an inquiring fan:
“When we develop LEGO sets based on movies, we aspire to make minifigures and models that reflect the iconic characters and scenes in the film. For this reason our products are most often developed by LEGO designers using reference material from specific movies – still images, sketches, as well as in the actual movies as inspiration. We developed The Lego Star Wars Resistance Bomber set (75188), based on “The Last Jedi” movie and discovered after the film was released that one of The Lego minifigures in the set doesn’t reflect the movie scene properly. As a result, we decided to adjust the set accordingly, true to our motto: “Only the best is good enough”. We hope Star Wars fans across the world appreciate this attention to details”
It is a known fact that LEGO designers do not really receive the entire set of details about a film or a particular scene in which a LEGO set will eventually be based. This holds true in the case of the LEGO Star Wars Resistance Bomber. This adjustment resulted in the roll-out of a new and updated LEGO Star Wars Resistance Bomber (75188) that perfectly captures in minifigure form the character of Finch Dallow, including his Resistance helmet as well. Now I’m not really sure if this re-issued LEGO Star Wars Resistance Bomber set has already been released to the market, but an Instagram post from actor Kevin Layne who played the role of Finch Dallow, may hint that this re-issued set may already be out there.

The only question is where and how will you be able to get this set later on, considering that it is reasonable to expect that previously released Resistance Bomber sets with the generic Resistance Bomber Pilot minifigure, is still distributed in the market. Though as TBB observes, this kind of scarcity has led to some ‘overblown’ hype towards the Finch minifigure, as evidenced by its risen value of as much as $100 in some secondary market platforms. This is not something that LEGO intends though, and I’m personally glad that LEGO has corrected this matter, though a little bit too late in my opinion.
Frankly, it’s now seems to a kind of hit and miss if you wish to get your hands on an updated set that contains the new Finch Dallow minifigure. Even if the Resistance Bomber is still up and selling at shop.LEGO.com, buying it from LEGO’s online store still doesn’t guarantee if ever you will receive the new minifig. In fact, the LEGO Shop@Home page for this particular set is still not updated with the new Finch minifig as of this posting.

Warner Bros Animation has released its latest teaser spot with a very interesting twist. We all know by now that the LEGO Movie 2 is chockfull of cameos and references coming from LEGO’s diverse range of home-grown themes and third-party licensed sets. Pop culture icons (though with some mild, political undertones) such as Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is also rendered in minifigure form. The latest teaser also has a very brief, but significant cameo towards the end, which is loaded with nostalgia and the possibility that we can get to see them again in future TLM2 sets. If you haven’t seen it yet or just missed it during the last 2 or 3 seconds of the teaser, then here’s the video once again that clearly shows a couple of LEGO Fabuland figures as posted in the LEGO Movie 2’s official Twitter account.
AFOLs quickly noticed these LEGO Fabuland figures amongst this team of LEGO minifigures, minidolls and Duplo figures. For those who are new to LEGO, Fabuland is a theme that began in 1979 and lasted for more than a decade until 1989. It is designed for younger children and features animal characters in a town-like setting. Imagine an old-school version of Nintendo’s Animal Crossing and you’ll get the idea.

As you can see from the above screenshots, the LEGO Movie 2 adds a couple of LEGO Fabuland figures as cameos in the film. We get to see a Fabuland Bulldog in front and a gray Fabuland Dog in the third row. As far as the LEGO Movies are concerned, this is the first time that these LEGO Fabuland figures had their actual screen time since they were only casually mentioned in the first film. This is only speculation at this point, but since LEGO has basically broken away with the tradition of offering minifigs, minidolls, and Duplo characters in separate themes and boxes, can we expect therefore that the next wave of LEGO Movie 2 sets will include actual LEGO Fabuland characters? We saw how LEGO is very much willing to bring back classic minfigs that alludes to the Classic Space theme such as those from Benny’s Space Squad (70841), and the rumored re-emergence of classic LEGO Star Wars sets and minfigures as part of LEGO’s 20th Year Celebration of the LEGO Star Wars theme. So is it possible that we will see the same treatment offered to LEGO Fabuland figures? The possibility is surely exciting.
A new Fox Suit Girl minifigure is also seen in the teaser spot.It is likely that the Fox Suit Girl minifigure may be a part of a second series of TLM2 CMF.
In addition to these LEGO Fabuland characters, perhaps a second wave of the LEGO Movie 2 Collectible Minifigures is now in the works. This is not far-fetched considering that LEGO did the same with the LEGO Batman Movie CMF Series 1 and Series 2. The idea is spurred by the appearance of a new costumed character, now dubbed as Fox Suit Girl. Again, these are just speculations at this point but it is something really cool if it turns to be true. It is highly unlikely that we’ll get confirmation from this soon, even if LEGO’s presence is very noticeable at the London Toy Fair that is currently happening at Olympia London. In any case, a second series of TLM2 CMF is surely welcomed, and we’ll have plenty more ideas of what characters can be possibly included in the series once we see the LEGO Movie 2 in theaters on February 8.
2019 is a special year for the majority of LEGO fans since this year marks the 20th year milestone of one of LEGO’s longest running licensed theme. LEGO has already revealed its intention of coming up with an exclusive line of LEGO Star Wars commemorative sets when it unveiled its special, 20 Years of LEGO Star Wars logo. Needless to say, whatever sets and minifigures that will make it to the cut of this prized, limited-edition anniversary sets will closely be monitored by the excited majority of LEGO Star Wars fans. Thanks to intel gathered by German LEGO fan site Stone Wars, we now have an idea on what these LEGO Star Wars 20th anniversary sets are, and how their minifigures will look like.
It should be noted that though LEGO has released and rehashed many LEGO Star Wars sets in the past, the LEGO Star Wars 20th anniversary sets are unique in themselves because of certain commemorative minifigures included with them. According to Stone Wars, these are the upcoming LEGO Star Wars sets that will have the special commemorative minifigures.
It is also rumored that these commemorative minifigs will also retain the exact same look of their predecessors from 20 years ago: they will sport the original yellow skin tone (except of course for Darth Vader and Lando), and the same torso and leg prints. Now I understand that devout LEGO Star Wars collectors may be shaking their heads in disappointment considering how their precious collection may depreciate in value because of this. However, LEGO was kind enough to include one very distinctive feature to these commemorative LEGO Star Wars minifigures. They will all have a special print on the back of their torso in big bold characters that say: ’20 Years, LEGO Star Wars’. Collectors will surely welcome this nice gesture from LEGO, and it will definitely help in distinguishing these new LEGO Star Wars minifigures from their original prototypes from two decades ago.

Other than the special print at the back of these minifigures, each of them will also come with a commemorative minifig display tile similar to those included in the LEGO CMF line, the difference will be that the studs from the former are placed near the edge of the tile. The minifigure stand also features the same unique print, and the name of the LEGO Star Wars minifigure emblazoned on the larger part of the tile.

Just a bit of a disclaimer though: as the title of this story suggests, this is all but a rumor until such time that LEGO confirms these LEGO Star Wars 20th anniversary sets and minifigures, or a barrage of official images starts to come in. Truth be told, this piece of news caught me blindsided. I know that the LEGO Movie franchise (both the first and upcoming film) has its share of wacky characters that are very surprising, to say the least, but this one really caught me by surprise. First reported by USA Today, the LEGO Movie 2 now adds another sort of pop culture/political icon in its brick mix with the cameo of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, or fondly referred to as RBG by her followers.
This minifigure version of the oldest sitting Justice comes, of course, with her court robe, distinct hairstyle, and a gavel. The reason for including RBG in the LEGO Movie 2 is a bit of a mystery, though I am inclined to believe that LEGO and Warner Bros have no intention of whatsoever in giving the film a political undertone. According to director Mike Mitchell, “These movies are so full of surprises. And we were thinking, ‘Who’s the last person you would think to see in a LEGO film as a minifig?’ Ruth Bader Ginsburg!” No further details regarding RBG’s role in the film were mentioned, but my guess is that the inclusion of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in the LEGO Movie 2 has something to do with keeping up with one of the film’s underlying message of empowering women, and particularly dispelling the common myth that LEGO is primarily a toy for boys. The USA Today also reports that the role of Justice RBG fits well to the sequel’s story considering that her minifigure version is part of the younger sister’s brick-built world. If that is the case, then the younger sister (who is probably 6 or 7 by now considering the years that have passed since the events of Taco Tuesday), may prove to be a creative builder herself.

To fan the excitement over this version of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Mitchell also reveals that RBG’s minifigure version on the big screen will also have its physical, minifigure counterpart. “So there will be a real Ruth Bader Ginsburg toy that boys and girls can play with. It will even come with a gavel,” says Mitchell. LEGO is clearly alluding to the possibility of a second wave of LEGO Movie 2 sets that are now in the works, and we can expect its reveal sometime in June or July as part of LEGO’s wave of new sets for the second half of 2019. LEGO has finally unveiled the official names of the characters that comprise the LEGO Movie 2 Collectible Minifigures (71023). We had a closer look at their official images, and we already know how they’re distributed per box, and now LEGO has finally made the reveal giving us an official description of this new CMF series.
First off, we have some of the main stars of the sequel and also those from the previous film, including some new for 2019 minifigure costumes and accessories such as Emmet’s headphone wig, Lucy’s hood, and Rex’s Fedora and wig. President Business also comes with a new golf club accessory while Benny has a new mechanical arm, toolbox, and sporting a rather tough expression. Unikitty is being her usual self, beaming with positivity.

LEGO has officially revealed the upcoming LEGO Movie 2 Collectible Minifigures (71023) via its Facebook page. We are also aware that each box contains 60 minifigures, however, we don’t have an inkling on how the 20 minifigures in the series are distributed. Much so if LEGO opted to throw in a certain chase minifigure, similar to what it did with the LEGO Movie CMF Series 18 (71021) Classic Policeman minifig. But thanks to PromobricksandBrickSanity, we now have an idea about the LEGO Movie 2 Collectible Minifigures (71023) box distribution, and how many complete sets can we get out of each box.
Thankfully, it is confirmed that there are three complete sets included in each box of 60 minifigures. And to make it even easier, Promobricks has also confirmed that each row of 20 minifigs corresponds exactly to one complete series, virtually removing any efforts of feeling your way through each blind bag if ever you can get your hands on an unopened box. This is a much-welcomed gesture from LEGO, and as far as I remember a first one of sorts.
One thing that you’ll notice is that the blind bag for the LEGO Movie 2 CMF is also considerably larger than its predecessors, similar to the size of the LEGO Unikitty Collectible Figures (41775). Furthermore, according to Promobricks, the material used for the blind bag is somewhat thinner than before which makes feeling your way through each minifigure relatively easier.
Since the LEGO Movie 2 Collectible Minifigures (71023) box distribution has already been revealed, making it much easier to acquire a complete set, we can expect a lot of LEGO collectors rushing their way to LEGO Stores at the end of the month to be one of the firsts to get an unopened box. The LEGO Movie 2 CMF (71023) is not yet listed at shop.LEGO.com, but you can bet that some LEGO physical stores already have them stocked in their storerooms.
After the reveal of a LEGO Movie 2 Minifigure Pack, it looks like the LEGO Movie 2 will also get its own promotional pod, thanks to this image shared by eagle-eyed LEGO fan, the_real_fcl. Based on its actual blister packaging, The LEGO Movie 2 Emmet’s Pod also has a lenticular sticker common to other LEGO promotional pods. To be clear, I’m not really sure if this is considered as a promotional item since the Instagram post does not mention its availability, or where it was spotted.
The LEGO Movie 2 Emmet’s Pod features Emmet of course (I think we’re getting too much of Emmet already), and a minibuild crane built inside the pod. It somehow deviates from the typical LEGO pods that we have seen so far since those previously released by LEGO portrays characters like Darth Vader, Batman, Zane, and Lloyd just to name some in a home-like pod that includes an interesting collection of minifig accessories. However, with the LEGO Movie 2 Emmet’s Pod, we see the ever composed master builder in his typical day of work, converting the pod into a sort of a mini construction site. I personally feel that it might be better if LEGO opted for the usual pod format, throwing in some rare minifig accessories instead. I also feel that we have too much of Emmet already, and it will be more interesting if LEGO opted for any another character in the film. I guess there’s no argument here considering the vast amount of characters available in the film.
In any case, it is still a nice find if you’re into collecting these pods, and we have to wait and see if the LEGO Movie 2 Emmet’s Pod is just a single tie-in pod, or will there be others to be announced later on.
