Another LEGO City Minfiigure Pack (40345) Adds More People, Stuff to Space Exploration Sets

LEGO has so many irons in the fire, figuratively, that they can announce a wide variety of products simultaneously. While their fandom is still digesting the LEGO Stranger Things set, LEGO has been announcing smaller stuff like Minifigure Packs. These little collections of minifigs and accessories serve as nice “population boosters” for other, bigger sets.

While we were featuring the new LEGO Ninjago (40342) and City (40344) Minifigure Packs, sharp eyes may have noticed something. The Hoth Bricks source article had among its images some minifigs and props that weren’t part of the others. Is it a separate Minfigure Pack?

Yes it is. And now we know it to be a second LEGO City Minifigure Pack, numbered 40345. If you thought pack 40344’s summer theme clashed with the latest City set announcements, this one’s more appropriate. You will recall that the newest upcoming for LEGO City is a space exploration theme. This pack fits in.

The new LEGO City Minifigure Pack (40345) has four characters. We’ve got two astronauts in different spacesuits, a scientist and a hard-hat technician. The scientist and one of the astronauts are female too, for balance. Their accessories include a metal detector, jackhammer, wrench, laptop, camera, space rocks, and laboratory table.

One could picture this set of minifigures as a team of experts for returning space missions. They’d examine soil samples from the moon and Mars taken back by the astronauts. The “green rock” elements look mighty interesting under the “microscope.”

It’s likely a sure thing that LEGO City Minifigure Pack 40345 will come out at the same time as all the rest of its brethren. Minifig hunters ought to love collecting them for LEGO-set populations.

LEGO DC Comics Shazam! (30623) Minifigure Polybag Spotted

Observers might have noticed that while LEGO was great with MCU tie-in sets, they haven’t been as focused with Warner’s DCEU. Avengers: Endgame have sets so is Spider-Man: Far from Home. However, what about Shazam! which premiered last month? Sure it had a DLC pack for the LEGO DC Super-Villains video game, but where are its tie-in sets? A new product listing by Bricklink reveals that there is one after all. It’s not the usual boxed LEGO building set, but a minifigure polybag instead. The LEGO DC Comics Shazam! (30623) minifigure polybag is pretty much obvious. It’s Shazam himself, with a mischievous smile and all.

French LEGO news source Brick Heroes even noticed something about the minifigure design for LEGO DC Comics Shazam! (30623). It’s actually a re-release of the Shazam minifig included in the LEGO DC Comics Batwing and the Riddler Heist (76120), from the LEGO Batman 80^th Anniversary sets. The body’s the same, but the hooded cape accessory and head (evoking current comic-book design) have been replaced. Now the 30623 minifigure version has a high-collar cape (like the movie) and a LEGO-rendition of Zachary Levi’s face. All told, the film Shazam does look better and more heroic. Here’s a closer look at this minifig from a recent eBay listing.

There’s no word yet on the polybag’s availability, either for sale or as a gift-with-purchase promo. We can surmise however that the cape looks like other minifigure clothing accessories. We’ll keep on the lookout once more news comes in about the LEGO DC Comics Shazam! (30623) minifigure polybag, but for the time being, be sure to keep tabs with us here at The Brick Show.

LEGO Ninjago Minifigure Pack (40342) and LEGO City Minifigure Pack (40344) Revealed

Earlier this week we spotted, courtesy of a French LEGO site, a Minifigure Pack Tie-In for the next MCU movie. “The Spider-Man: Far from Home” Pack (40343) has some nice exclusive character minifigs inside. But that turns out to be only one of a burst of new LEGO blister packs. These other Minifigure mini-sets are for LEGO’s own theme and franchise. There’s the LEGO Ninjago Minifigure Pack (40342) with four minifigs and a relic that splits into multiple weapons. Included are Ninjago hero Kai, baddies Pyro Snake and Ice Samurai, and adventurer archeologist Clutch Powers. He’s from the 2010 DVD-released animated movie.

Next up is the LEGO City Minifigure Pack (40344). From this we know that the products are all summer 2019 releases. It has two beachgoers, a surfer girl and a snorkeler. Accessories range from an ice cream cart, two animal pieces (parrot and crab).

The LEGO City Minifigure Pack (40344) as an upcoming LEGO City item is a tad disconnected from the latest big-box sets of the line. As one might recall, these sets depict space and Mars exploration. The LEGO Ninjago Minifigure Pack (40342) does get extra points for having a rare character in Clutch Powers. That’s a neat addition to any expansive Ninjago character collection.

2018 GWP Minifigure LEGO Party Banana Juice Bar (5005250) Now Purchasable at Shop@Home UK

Last year, the summer seasonal LEGO minifigure, in the old house-shaped box packaging, was the Party Banana Juice Bar (5005250). The guy in the banana suit with boom-box was free with a minimum $35 LEGO purchase in July 2018. Now with summer returning and with stocks of 5005250 still left, selling these off becomes viable.

For LEGO minifigure collectors in the UK, their local Shop@Home has a little treat. They now have the LEGO Party Banana Juice Bar (5005250) aka banana-suit guy for sale. Forget the minimum LEGO purchase. UK shoppers need only pay £4.99 for this back-order seasonal minifigure.

Said line of minifigures, costumed characters in boxes shaped like buildings, is quite possibly phasing out. At least, that’s what may be inferred from the 2019 Easter Seasonal Chicken Skater (853958). Instead of a box-house, this chicken-suited minifig was in a pod. No new boxed seasonal minifigures were announced either.

If so, then any of these collectibles will become highly valuable soon. Replacing boxes with studier pods may be reasonable, but it loses the charm of the uniquely-printed “building packages.” For now, Party Banana Juice Bar (5005250) is available for £4.99 on LEGO Shop@Home UK.

Barnes & Noble Restocks LEGO Bricktober 2018 4-Minifigure Set for Harry Potter (5005254)

It’s like a story retold to tedium, about last year’s LEGO Bricktober 4-piece minifigure sets. Originally slated for Toys R Us, they had to be made available elsewhere in the US for obvious reasons. For instance, the Bricktober for LEGO Harry Potter (5005254) was to be made available in major bookstore chain Barnes & Noble.

That announcement came to pass. Collectors managed to acquire the LEGO Bricktober Harry Potter set (5005254) in B&N stores before October 2018 was done. We’d thought that that was the end of it, that any further 5005254’s will be found online. But there are still more left at B&N apparently.

The official Barnes & Noble website has once again put LEGO Harry Potter Bricktober 2018 (5005254) up again for listing. If any Potter-fans haven’t gotten this then now’s the time. Granted, quantities for the set seem limited. It’s already marked “temporarily” out of stock online.

If you’re planning to grab your 4-piece minifigure collection, its current price is at $14.99 and it might be available on B&N stores instead. LEGO Bricktober 2018 Harry Potter (5005254) consists of Madame Hooch, Professor Horace Slughorn, Dolores Umbridge and the “Prisoner of Azkaban” Boggart in the form of Snape.

LEGO Minifigure Display at Star Wars Celebration Chicago Earns Guinness World Record

As the 2019 LEGO Star Wars Celebration carries on in Chicago this week, LEGO is doing its part to establish itself as being an integral part of the overall franchise. It’s promoting its anniversary-edition LEGO sets, its spinoff animated series and so on. Now, they’ve achieved a notable triumph by having their LEGO Star Wars display win a Guinness World Record.

One exhibit, done by LEGO for Star Wars Celebration, is a tabletop display of Imperial Stormtrooper minifigures. They’re artfully arranged in formation to form a Stortrooper helmet silhouette when viewed from afar. Work was done by a model-building team overseen by Michael McNally (LEGO Group senior director of brand relations) and Jens Kronvold Frederiksen (LEGO Star Wars Design Director).

Look at that array. The Stormtrooper helmet silhouette you see was made out of 36,440 LEGO Star Wars Stormtrooper minifigures. That number has beaten a previous Guinness World Record for “Largest Minifigure Display,” back in 2008 at the UK, using Clone Trooper minifigs instead (35,210).

With the number confirmed by a Guinness representative on hand, a new World Record was awarded to LEGO during the course of Star Wars Celebration. It’s a worthy reward for the 12-man LEGO team that worked 16 hours to put the display together in Chicago.

The LEGO Star Wars Stormtrooper Guinness Record-holders will remain on display for the rest of Star Wars Celebration. Panels for LEGO Star Wars animated productions are also expected this week.

Christmas Comes Early as LEGO Previews 2019 Holiday Minifigure Ornaments

We’re roughly getting to the middle of springtime this year. But thanks to a recent product announcement by LEGO you’d be forgiven to think that Christmas is coming again. Then again, it’s pretty much standard for the toy giant to start advertising their seasonal products ahead of their associated seasons.

So for the 2019 Holidays we can look forward to getting these cool large-minifigure hanging ornaments for your Christmas tree. As before, these licensed ornaments are officially manufactured by Hallmark for LEGO. They’re making large hanging minifigs based on “LEGO Movie,” “LEGO Batman Movie,” and “LEGO Star Wars,” the third one in line with their 20^th Anniversary celebration this year.

LEGO Officially Reveals the LEGO Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 2 (71024)

Well, this really made my day. In its official Facebook page, LEGO greeted us with a very welcome surprise, and officially announcing its next wave of collectible minifigures. It has been teased since early this January with the release of the 2019 LEGO Catalog, particularly along side with the LEGO Movie 2 CMF. The LEGO Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 2 (71024) consists of 18 minifigures, featuring timeless, classic characters and newer ones. LEGO’s selection for this wave doesn’t disappoint because some of these minifigure offerings complement the ones that were released before in LEGO Disney CMF Series 1 (71012) – such as Princess Jasmin and Jaafar; and Edna Mode and Frozone. I am personally looking forward for the Ducktales and the Nightmare Before Christmas minifigs.

LEGO Stop-Motion Animator Jared “Gold Yeller” Remakes 2018 Buzzer-Beater of Michigan’s Jordan Poole in Bricks and Minifigs

Jared Jacobs, known on Twitter as Gold Yeller, has cemented his rep as LEGO builder and stop-motion animator with his online stock-in trade. He has recreated a lot of awesome game moments from a wide variety of sports and competitions, using LEGO sets in stop-motion and recorded actual play-by-play commentary.

We’ve seen his creative genius ourselves when we covered his stop-motion recreation of a highlight in US College Football, the “Kick Six” which led to Auburn beating Alabama in 2013. He’s since released more awesome videos on his Twitter page, and this is his latest.

Serving as something of a pick-me-up for the University of Michigan following their falling out of contention for the Big Ten this past weekend, Gold Yeller recreated one high point of the Wolverines from the previous year. This was an impressive buzzer-beating 3-point shot delivered against Houston by Jordan Poole.

In the same fashion as his “Kick Six” sequence, we see the March 2018 Michigan-Houston game for the NCAA Tournament’s second round. In the last seconds, the Wolverines launch a determined drive to the Houston side of the court. A pass puts the ball in Poole’s hands, and he launches it in a fade-away that leaves him on his back, but sinking the basket for three as the bell rings.

Additional touches to the stop-motion sequence include animated facial expressions to depict the crowd’s and benches’ reactions. Also caught was the defeated posture of a Houston player who flopped on the floor as Jordan Poole is mobbed by his teammates. And was that Harry Potter?

While Michigan this year will miss the Big Ten, at least they’ll have this Jared Jacobs mini-production to remind the team that they’re still awesome.

Easter LEGO Seasonal Minifigure Switches from “Hut” Box to Pod with Seasonal Easter Chicken Pod (853958)

Leave it to LEGO to try something different every now and then with their seasonal set releases. We tend to already know what to expect at specific times of the year. We usually get releases of seasonal BrickHeadz, occasionally accompanied by seasonal minifigures in boxes that double as their “homes/workplaces.”

Well, for the 2019 Easter season, LEGO has decided that the “hut” package for their seasonal LEGO minifigures may have run its course. Therefore, they’re changing the container of choice from house-shaped boxes to pods. This was discovered by a Slovenian LEGO fan on Instagram, who found the upcoming set in a LEGO Certified Store.

So, complementing the LEGO BrickHeadz Seasonal Easter Chick set (40350) this year is the new LEGO Seasonal Easter Chicken Pod (853958). As expected of seasonal minifigure names, what we have is a guy in a chicken suit. And because his container is a pod, he comes with quite the variety of extra stuff in it.

Chicken suit guy comes with two accessories: a golden trophy cup and a pair of red roller skate elements for his feet. His character pod contains a quaint little Easter garden setup…and a skating ramp, for the use of a white Easter Bunny piece with its own roller skate element.

We don’t have details yet on the Easter Chicken Pod (853958), such as its price and its release date. We’re also not sure if this is a one-off variation on LEGO’s part or if they’re ending the seasonal “minifigure hut” line, replacing them with pods.

But whether this is only temporary or the new state of things for seasonal minifigures, it looks pretty good from what we’ve seen. It also comes across as a big improvement in any case. Whether it’s a fluke, a replacement for the huts, or a new complementary seasonal line, we certainly won’t mind seeing more in the vein of LEGO Seasonal Easter Chicken Pod (853958).
