SPOTTED: New LEGO xtra Polybags Featuring Set and Minifigure Accessories

LEGO builders who own multiple sets in the vein of City, which has lots of buildings and minifigures, might have felt that they could do with having the option to buy more props and design options for their minifigures or set surroundings; but at the same time not have to buy a whole new set.

We’re not sure if LEGO managed to get this vibe from their customers or if they came up with the idea on their own, but now a new series of polybags have been spotted at Hamburg’s LEGO Store by Promobricks. They’re branded as LEGO xtra.

Promobricks tells us that these LEGO xtra polybags contain copies of various props that could be used to spice up a location scene in a LEGO City or similar set. There are vehicles, and food items, and shrubbery, and street infrastructure galore. Let’s have a closer look at these polybags.

  • Food (40309) – 30 pieces of pizzas, beer mugs, bottle-case, croissants, roast chicken, fish, carrots, etc.

  • Trees and Plants (40310) – 24 pieces of trees, shrubs, flowers, picket fences and so on

  • Traffic Lights (40311) – 46 pieces for traffic lights, wheelbarrow, broom and trash can

  • Streetlamps (40312) – 34 pieces for lamps (regular and with road signs), newspaper vending booth, mailbox and more

  • Bicycles (40313) – 21 pieces for bicycles, skateboards, riding helmets, backpack…

But Hamburg isn’t getting LEGO xtra all to itself for long. The news is that this new polybag line is going to hit more LEGO Stores on Friday, June 1. LEGO Store Hamburg priced them at €3.99 apiece, so that’s around $4.67 in the US. We’ll just have to wait.

LEGO Disney’s “Frozen” BrickHeadz Sets Revealed: Elsa (41617) and Anna with Olaf (41618)

The snow glows white on the mountain (of upcoming LEGO products) tonight, because at long last the coolest Snow Queen and her oh so adorable little sister have finally revealed themselves…in LEGO BrickHeadz form, that is. It’s nice to finally put photos to the rumors, and they are just perfect.

If you’re wondering, the initial alert regarding LEGO Disney’s Frozen BrickHeadz was courtesy of a LEGO catalog from Poland. From that, we know of the official designations for the two sets coming soon: Elsa (41617) and a 2-pack of Anna and Olaf (41618). No release date was included but the best bet is around July.

From the look on the characters’ faces as translated into BrickHeadz, the details are rather spot on, save perhaps for Olaf wearing a neutral expression instead of a smile, and the lack of a white brick part to simulate the frozen streak in Anna’s hair.

And with that, LEGO Disney’s Frozen BrickHeadz sets join the other franchises to be confirmed over the course of the past several days. We’ve got three sets for Harry Potter (two of them 2-packs), two for Star Wars, and one 2-pack for Ghostbusters. It’s a great time to collect BrickHeadz.

LEGO Brand Store (40305) Official Images Released – Set Expected to be Available In All LEGO Stores.

Earlier this month, we reported on another possible promotional set that is expected to be a hit among collectors. The LEGO Brand Store (40305) was expected to be a promotional set, thought to be given away at a particular LEGO Store opening. However, as the weeks roll by, sightings of the LEGO Brand Store (40305) set on store shelves across the globe suggest that this is not a promotional set that we once thought of. Other than being sold at LEGOLAND Billund, like we previously mentioned, Brickfinder reports that the LEGO Brand Store is also placed on sale and on display at store shelves in LEGOLAND Malaysia. This recent development is very much welcomed, especially for collectors who will be spared from going through the secondary market just to have this set for outrageous prices.

If these sightings of the LEGO Brand Store (40305) set are encouraging, the release of the set’s official images via LEGO’s servers further strengthens the notion that we might see this at our local LEGO Store anytime soon. Check out these images below.

The LEGO Brand Store (40305) has two minifigures: a LEGO Store employee and a child customer. LEGO also throws in a white microfig which is also pretty neat and helps emphasize that this set is a LEGO Store replica. It follows a modular design, with a detachable second floor, and other play features. We have no exact word yet on when this set will be available in the US, but given the conversion rate and estimated piece count, it is expected that the set might retail between $20 to $25. Stay tuned for more updates!

LEGO Media Fan Days 2018 Starts This Week at Billund

LEGO has always been totally out there for their massive global fan community, and one of the occasions they make for an opportunity to mingle is during their Media Fan Days events held, of course, at their hometown at Billund, Denmark. The one for this year’s already started this week!

That’s right. The 2018 LEGO Media Fan Days will kick off on Wednesday, May 30. Many media sources covering the LEGO have been converging on Billund’s LEGO HQ this week for a prime chance to get great news and information right out of the company and their design teams themselves.

One can count on so many great reveals for upcoming LEGO sets on this event. In particular, the official launch of the LEGO Technic Bugatti Chiron (42083) will be jointly made by LEGO and Bugatti on Friday, June 1. You’d think it was a real car they’ll be revealing there.

LEGO Media Fan Days 2018 will run from Wednesday to the end of the week. We can definitely count on getting more news from announced sets like the Wizarding World’s Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts, Unikitty!, Jurassic World and more from the designers’ mouths. We’ll be right on reporting these upcoming reveals when they’re made.

New LEGO Billund Airport (40199) Set Spotted

Back in 2014, LEGO released a souvenir set that celebrates one of the notable places in the heart of Billund, Denmark. The LEGO Billund Airport (4000016), following the style design of the LEGO Architecture line, was exclusively sold back then at the LEGO Store located inside the airport. Only 10,000 sets were made at that time and even after 4 years since it was introduced, it remained available inside the LEGO store partly because of its relatively higher price as compared to other sets. Nonetheless, like any limited-edition set, its exclusivity was certainly attractive to collectors in spite of the higher tag price.

However, it looks like LEGO has now replaced this set with a new and revised one, with minor differences that is not easily recognizable at first glance. Brickset reports that the LEGO Billund Airport (40199) was recently spotted in the said LEGO Store inside the airport which basically replaced its older 2014 predecessor. Just to be clear, the LEGO Store inside the Billund Airport is not accessible to the public, unless you’re flying in and will pass through the passport control area.

A Brickset reader also mentions that the LEGO Store maintains a sort of ‘anti-scalping’ policy where in the cost of the LEGO Billund Airport (40199) set increases to up to 899DKK each if a customer will opt to buy 4 or more sets. This is a welcomed move, and I wish other LEGO Stores will also follow the same practice with other exclusive, or limited-run sets.

As I said, there is not much of a difference between the two sets except for some minor, aesthetic details. Try to see if you can spot them, and let us know in the comments below.

Exclusive LEGO Architecture Set Sold at Billund Airport Now Updated from 4000016 to 40199

There’s no arguing at all that Billund in Denmark is LEGO’s very own corporate city-state of sorts, being the site of their HQ and all that. The first LEGOLAND Park was built here. Its own airport, now the second-largest in Denmark after Copenhagen, was built and initially operated by them.

Since 2014, the LEGO Store in Billund Airport’s departure hall offered for outgoing passengers a sweet souvenir: a LEGO Architecture set of their main building, numbered 4000016. It was a basic-build model structure with plant-pieces and rudimentary brick aircraft, but it was a rare exclusive worth picking up by collectors.

Some four years later however, there’s been a slight change. LEGO news resource Brickset has noted that the souvenir selection at Billund Airport has a new special-edition Architecture set. Or rather, it’s a new old set: Billund Airport, slightly altered and with a new number – 40199 – available only there.

40199 1

Thanks to photos from Brickset, we’ve got an idea of the amount of alterations that have been done on the LEGO Architecture Billund Airport set from version 4000016 to 40199. The sloping yellow structure on one side in the old one is gone. A “smokestack” is missing too on one end.

4000016 1

Website chatter on the new LEGO Architecture 40199 is that the flower build elements have slightly changed too, though we can’t seem to tell the difference from the photos. In conclusion, this souvenir set on Billund Airport’s departure hall LEGO Store is only cosmetically changed at best.

Dedicated collectors may go for it, and the original 4000016 will become a rarity (with jacked-up resale prices online possibly). Anybody who’s gone to Billund and are on their way back out might consider dropping by the store to have a look at the 40199 set, to see if it catches their fancy.

LEGO Brand Store (40305) Sighting on Billund Store Shelf Possibly Indicates It’s for Sale, Not Promotional

Early this May we got wind of a new LEGO set depicting a new spin on their past retail store models like the LEGO Brand Retail Store (40145). This new LEGO Brand Store (40305) is a step up from past LEGO Store building sets in that it’s a two-story structure.

Our original report on the LEGO Brand Store (40305) was that it’s going to be a little promotional item like its older brothers. However, new information implies that this might no longer be accurate. Rather than a giveaway under certain conditions, it’s going to be available on store shelves instead.

This comes to us from German LEGO news site Zusammengebaut.com, which reports that the LEGO Brand Store (40305) has been spotted on display shelves at the LEGO Store in LEGOLAND Billund, the hometown of LEGO itself. It’s priced at 229.95 Danish kroner, so it’ll be $36.15 if it comes stateside.

As seen in the photo above, the set box actually looks rather beefy in size compared to the height of the shelf (stacked vertically, even) so it sort of makes it less likely that the LEGO Brand Store (40305) is a promotional, meaning there’s probably more of it churned out.

But we’re approaching speculation at this point. Thus far we’ve concluded that the first sighting of the LEGO Brand Store (40305) is as a sales item in LEGOLAND Billund’s LEGO Store. Now we’ll have to watch for more info on how the set will be presented anyplace else in future.

LEGO Releases Official Images of the LEGO BrickHeadz Ghostbusters Peter Venkman and Slimer (41622) Dual Pack Set

A couple of weeks ago, LEGO teased via social media on its next LEGO BrickHeadz set dedicated to one of the 80’s most beloved, ghost-busting movie franchise. The LEGO BrickHeadz Ghostbusters Peter Venkman and Slimer (41622) dual pack is really happening, and LEGO has dropped several high-res images for us to enjoy.

41622 alt2

Coming in at 228 pieces, this dual-pack set is expected to retail for $19.99, and since these official images are already uploaded via LEGO’s servers, it will just be a matter of time before we get to see them on store shelves and at shop.LEGO.com, most probably in August.

These images also finally answered the nagging question of how to make Slimer ‘float’ as seen in LEGO’s initial post. Apparently, the effect is accomplished using a trans-clear 2×2 brick mounted on the usual BrickHeadz baseplate. Meanwhile, we see a slimed Dr. Peter Venkman in his classic Ghostbuster uniform, complete with his nameplate, Ghostbuster logo, and iconic Proton pack.

LEGO Wizarding World Official Box Art Images Revealed

We already saw one of the LEGO Wizarding World sets unveiled at the New York Toy Fair earlier in February, and with LEGO releasing a bunch of official images and product descriptions from this new theme, we are still missing, however, on the sets’ box art images. Thankfully, we now have an idea on how they look like thanks to the images shared by The Brick Fan and Promobricks.

Frankly, they turned out to be quite well, with its distinct dark blue and white colors which adds on the sets its magical vibe. These LEGO Wizarding World sets are slated to be released sometime in August, alongside their LEGO BrickHeadz counterparts. So I guess we still have some time to fill in those piggy banks. But for now, let’s check out their respective box art images below.

A Look at Fan-Build Interpretations of What the future LEGO Overwatch Sets Might Be Like

When word got out that LEGO and Activision Blizzard have entered into an agreement for licensing and releasing a series of toys about the latter’s hot FPS title Overwatch, it certainly triggered a lot of healthy discussion. After all, what LEGO sets can one make of a game of shooting?

A lot of LEGO builders in years past have done their own interpretations of Overwatch in LEGO. Now with an official release being put in the works, the efforts of these builders of not have caught attention of other fans that play the game, offering a tease to the future.

The first most likely candidate product line for LEGO Overwatch is in BrickHeadz, touted as LEGO’s reply to the prominence of Funko and its Pop! figures. A LEGO builder known on flickr as curtydc has created possible BrickHeadz designs for characters like Bastion and Widowmaker, as you can see below:

Collectable Minifigures are another branch of LEGO that would do great for Overwatch. The game does have a large number of characters by now, divided into heroes and baddies for plenty of sprawling set-building fun. Biao Custom, also on flickr, provides us with this sample:

Lego Overwatch Minifigures

Larger character figures can be rendered in less common lines like brick builds, similar to the human figures often used on building displays at LEGOLAND’s Miniland areas. From Korea, 한성욱 gives us this:

Or it could be the “Constraction Figures” that was used in LEGO Star Wars. The possibilities are as endless as the imagination. It’ll be a blast waiting for when LEGO’s actual sets for Activision Blizzard’s Overwatch come out, so we can compare with these custom-made marvels by expert LEGO builders.
