Whenever LEGO decides to make big building sets, they really sell how size matters. Look no further than the LEGO Creator Downtown Diner (10260) which is so chock-full of intricate details while having plenty of room for its accompanying minifigures to roam around in. It’s amazing how many things can go on both inside and outside.
If you’d like to know a little bit more about the Downtown Diner (10260) set, LEGO has just put up online its Designer video, featuring the diner’s creator, senior designer Mike Psiaki. The late December release of the video, when set 10260 was first announced last November, appears to be LEGO’s new policy, changed from originally putting out an upcoming set announcement and its designer vid simultaneously.
It’s interesting to note however that Mike Psiaki’s designer video for the LEGO Creator Downtown Diner (10260) doesn’t quite delve into the set’s details in all its entirety. A portion of the video has Psiaki talking out about himself and his work as a senior designer for LEGO.
The LEGO Creator Downtown Diner (10260) will come out on January 1, 2018 and will retail for $169.99.
The 2018 LEGO City sets have recently gone live at UK’s shop.LEGO.com and in LEGO brand stores in the region, and the best part is, it comes with a neat, LEGO City polybag promotional.
The LEGO City Hot Dog Stand (30356) comes as a free gift with purchase of any 2018 LEGO City sets, due to be out next week in LEGO brand stores in the US, but is now apparently available in the UK and the rest of Europe.
The Hot Dog Stand is one of the free 2018 polybag promotionals – some of which were released already – expected to be given away starting next week in the US. According to the UK LEGO Shop@Home site, this promotional will be available in the region from December 27 until March 4, 2018 or until supplies last. Coming in at 43 pieces, the polybag features a minifigure scale hot dog stand, a dark green dust bin accessory and a minifigure chef.
As a fan of this theme’s polybags, I am actually looking forward on having this one. Furthermore, we also have another LEGO City polybag – LEGO City Dragster (30358) – slated to be released in January as mentioned in the LEGO Store January Store Calendar for the US.
Frankly, I prefer the Hot Dog Stand over the Dragster, so I hope the former will also be available in local LEGO Stores eventually. Thanks to BrickFanz for the heads up.
UPDATE: Before LEGO secret agents come knocking on our doors, I opted to remove the confidential images below and replace them with blurred ones. May your eyes forgive me for this trespass.
After the reveal of the next wave of LEGO Speed Champions sets and the beautifully done LEGO Ideas Ship in a Bottle (21313), here is another set to look forward to this Summer. Shared once more by mariopower.56 over on Instagram, we now have our first look at the LEGO Creator Roller Coaster (31084). Yes folks, you heard it correctly – we now have our very first, functional 3-in-1 Roller Coaster set from LEGO! I know I’m risking minifigure life and limb in posting this since LEGO’s brick police may soon be breathing down my neck – but I couldn’t help it: this set is just too awesome to ignore. Take a look.
The LEGO Creator Roller Coaster (31084) follows a Pirates theme-park design, complete with a brick-built skull facade/entrance, and an overlooking mini-castle. I couldn’t figure much from the image, but as a 3-in-1 set, it is interesting to note that these tracks are convertible to a circular, continuous one and a single longer one.
These new tracks elements were first introduced in the LEGO Batman Movie The Joker Manor (70922) and later on included as part of a race track in LEGO Speed Champions Ferrari Ultimate Garage (75889), the LEGO Creator Roller Coaster (31084) is the first set to fully utilize its potential as a LEGO element. I feel it’s long overdue, and I’m glad LEGO is gradually realizing its many possibilities. It will also be nice to see if LEGO can give the option of purchasing this set with Power Functions so you can motorize the entire build and see it come alive. We don’t have any information yet regarding its price point and number of pieces, but looking at the size of this set, it can easily pass for around $100.
Another interesting thing that is somehow related to the LEGO Creator Roller Coaster is the rumor that LEGO has been working on a larger Advanced Model of the Ferris Wheel. Now, this may be a long shot given that we still have the newer LEGO Creator Ferris Wheel (10247) available in the market, particularly at shop.LEGO.com. However, looking at this box image, I couldn’t help but feel that LEGO might be giving hints on this, as it is fond of doing similar to the LEGO Star Wars set. Pay attention to the Ferris Wheel located at the top right corner of the box art.
Now if LEGO is indeed hinting at the possibility of this Ferris Wheel to happen, then it is expected to be grander in scale as compared to set 10247, and since the older Ferris Wheel might soon be retired at the end of 2018, it is possible for this rehash to happen. Personally, I would rather opt for a larger, D2C Advanced Model of the Roller Coaster, and give fans two options to choose from: a smaller, LEGO Creator Roller Coaster (31084) and a larger, more grandiose (as Brian puts it) direct-to-consumer LEGO Creator Expert Roller Coaster.
So what do you think brick fans? Are you excited about this new LEGO Creator Roller Coaster set? Would you like to see a larger roller coaster set or are you OK with a Ferris Wheel instead? Share your thoughts in the comments section below, or head over at our Facebook page and join the discussion.
While some of the first wave of 2018 LEGO Technic sets is still expected to be out on January 1, it looks like we’re getting more information on what to expect from the LEGO Technic theme this Summer, 2018. Planned to be officially revealed during the New York Toy Fair in February, some preliminary images of these sets have found their way online. As always, we’re playing on the safe side by not revealing the proper images right here, but I will provide you with the set’s title and my first impression on these sets. I’m not really much of a Technic fan, but being a long standing LEGO theme for decades, I am very much impressed about its complexity and STEM-based designs.
Forklift Truck (42079) – 75.29 €
This set comes in a predominantly blue and yellow color scheme and comes with a pallet and a drum-like build of hazardous materials. It also looks like an upgraded version of the LEGO Technic Forklift 8463 released in 2001.
Forest Harvester (42080) – 198.99 €
The Forest Harvester comes in a noticeable lime green, white and yellow color scheme. Another noticeable feature is the large circular red saw piece which is kind of cool together with certain power functions, particularly the Pneumatic System V2.
Volvo Autonomous (42081) – 178.39 €
This set looks more like a streamlined, upgraded version of the Volvo L350F Wheel Loader (42030) released in 2014. The concept behind this set is based on a drone operated loader, equipped with a robotic camera at the back.
Rough Terrain Crane (42082) – 357.79 €
Set 42082 looks like a re-imagining of the Rough Terrain Crane (8270) from 2007. This newer version is noticeably larger and comes in a striking red color scheme. Similar to the Forest Harvester, the Rough Terrain Crane also comes with Power Functions which is the XL Motor system.
As a last note, since these sets are slated to be revealed at the New York Toy Fair, we might as well not expect any official images to be released until such time, so please pardon me for the blurred images.
UPDATE: These images were intentionally blurred – and we all know the reason why.
The reveals just keep on coming. Earlier today, we have what it seems to be our very first image of the next LEGO Ideas set, Ship in a Bottle (21313) by Jacob Sadovich. If you recall back in August, LEGO Ideas Ship in a Bottle (21313) is based on the MOC that Sadovich successfully submitted and approved during the LEGO Ideas Third 2016 Review Stage. Eventually, it topped the rest of the candidates together with my very own, personal favorite Voltron-Defender of the Universe by Leandro ‘Lendy’ Tayag. These two sets were given the thumbs up, seal of approval by the LEGO Ideas Review Team with the Ship in a Bottle finally having a release date of January 17, 2018 as reported by Zusammengebaut.
Apparently, LEGO insider afro_man_news1 was able to capture this image which was eventually shared across LEGO fan forums. I have to say that the LEGO Ideas Design Team really poured out their hearts in the thoughtful redesigning of the LEGO Ideas Ship in a Bottle. As any Ideas set, they tweaked on the original design, improved its overall looks, and the result simply wows anyone in their tracks. Check the image below.
What I love about this Ideas set is the fact on how the designers recreated the base, giving it an overall classic old school look. The designers were also keen in details such as the bottle’s cork and the globe pieces mounted on top of the base. I’m not quite sure if it’s a new piece, but it simply looks gorgeous! The bottle itself is now more streamlined, which gives the set a more natural look. I just feel that the ship itself is a bit underwhelming, quite bulky as compared to the original vision of Sadovich. In any case, the LEGO Ideas Ship in a Bottle (21313) is still a very beautiful set which would be a fitting prelude to Voltron once the final product is unveiled. LEGO Ideas has seen a lot of excellent sets recently, and this recent offering further affirms the creative talents of the LEGO Community.
As mentioned earlier, the Ship in a Bottle (21313) is expected to be out on shelves by January 17, so it will not be long until we see official images of it.
We’re almost halfway through the last week of December, before 2017 gives way to 2018. Our past reports here on The Brick Show are more than enough proof to LEGO fans that our good old brick, model and minifigure company isn’t held back by words like “next year” when announcing new products.
This is easily seen in the recent word that’s come out on some new LEGO Star Wars set releases scheduled for summer of next year. The interesting thing is that apparently, LEGO’s Summer 2018 batch appears to be updated versions of existing models that have already been released in years past.
Here’s a list of what LEGO Star Wars collectors can expect a few months from now:
Jedi & Clone Troopers Battle Pack (75206)
Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter (75214) – includes Anakin Skywalker and R2-D2 minifigures
X-Wing Starfighter (75218) – includes 2 pilots and 2 astromech droid minifigures
Sandcrawler (75220) – includes minifigures Luke Skywalker, 2 Jawas, 3 droids
Super Battle Droid (75538)
501st Legion Clone Trooper & AT-RT Walker (75539)
Star Wars 2018 Advent Calendar (75213)
The last three items are notable as the Super Battle Droid (75538) and the 501st Legion Clone Trooper & AT-RT Walker (75539) are new sets without prior versions.
And next year’s Star Wars Advent Calendar sure is coming early. There’s even an early box image with hints as to what micros and minifigures are in store. All three trilogy sets are well-represented with a Prequel-era Naboo star-fighter, Original-era Tatooine land-speeder and Sequel-era character Rose Tico. Get hyped now.
Last month, we saw the reveal of the LEGO Architecture Skylines Shanghai (21039) set which is also expected to be one of the many sets to be released online and in-store beginning January 1. This is the seventh set in the Skylines subtheme that intends to feature some of the world’s most modern buildings and locations in one neat, minibuild collectible. Originally, the Shanghai (21039) set is slated to be released together with another Skylines set, but sadly, due to the unfortunate incident involving one of the hotels in the Las Vegas area, the LEGO Group has decided to either postpone or cancel the release of the LEGO Architecture Skylines Las Vegas (21038), as noted by Brick set.
As it turns out, it looks like we have to wait a bit longer before we can see this set released. But thanks to some tips from several LEGO fan forums, we get to see a glimpse of how the Las Vegas (21038) set will look like. Our friends pointed us to an Italian online store, EPrice, which posted a box art image of the LEGOArchitecture Skylines Las Vegas (21038) as you can see below. Set 21038 is expected to have a total of 487 pieces and will retail for 39.99 Euros.
I know some of you will probably think that the brick police will soon catch up with this post and request this to be deleted. Just to be clear, this image was posted on a legitimate e-commerce website such as EPrice, and it is still up as of this writing. But then again, we’ll quickly comply if there is a takedown order for this one.
As you can see from the image above, the LEGO Architecture Las Vegas (21038) set is composed of several well-known buildings and landmarks in Las Vegas, including the Freemont Street Experience, Stratosphere Tower, Luxor Hotel, Encore Hotel, and Mandalay Bay Hotel. The relative scaling of these minibuilds are spot on, with the Luxor Hotel cleverly recreated using some Egyptian minifigure accessories.
Again, we do not have an exact release date yet, if ever this set will still be released. There are talks of it being postponed until April so we just have to wait and see by then. Furthermore, the Skylines subtheme is often released in sets of three so we may somehow expect another similar set to be announced later on. If you’re into LEGO Architecture and would love to collect these Skylines sets, be sure to keep tabs with us as we post these latest developments as soon as they are available.
It looks like more information are coming in as early as now regarding the next wave of LEGO Star Wars sets, hot off the trail of the LEGO Star Wars Solo sets. LEGO has already revealed the release date of these upcoming tie-in sets in line with the next Star Wars anthology, Solo: A Star Wars Story. Though these sets are to be released at an earlier time as compared to other upcoming LEGO sets, it looks like Disney and LEGO have placed a very tight lid over potential leaks and spoilers on these.
Though details on the LEGO Star Wars Solo sets are still scant, it looks like Rebelscum managed to gather some intel on what we can expect from the 2018 Summer wave of LEGO Star Wars sets scheduled to be released in August. First off, let me say that I’m not at liberty to show you the same images that Rebelscum posted, but if you really want to see them I assume that you will be resourceful enough to know the way.
According to the report, these Star Wars sets will also be officially unveiled at next year’s New York Toy Fair from February 17-20. Here’s a rundown of what we can expect from this wave as mentioned by Rebelscum:
75214 Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter – the yellow-winged Clone Wars spacecraft, based on 7669 Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter 75215 Confidential
75216 Confidential
75217 Confidential 75218 X-Wing Starfighter – with two pairs of pilot/droid minifigs the a red-domed astromech unit could mean the set can be converted to Red Leader’s X-wing 75219 Confidential
75220 Sandcrawler – a System scale version of the grander 75059 UCS Sandcrawler 75539 501st Legion Clone Trooper & AT-RT Walker – buildable figure with single-person vehicle, as seen in this retired set 75538 Super Battle Droid – a buildable figure that comes as a surprise to many
I’m particularly excited about the Super Battle Droid (75538) because of the new and unique pieces that LEGO introduced to create this robust ultra-build. The X-Wing Starfighter (75218) is also a nice rehash of the previous X-Wings that we have before. As you can see, no reveals yet about the Solo tie-in sets so we just have to be a little more patient on this one.
It seems that there are plenty of new sets to keep under our LEGO radar once the first half of 2018 kicks in. Earlier, we learned that LEGO will be offering another line of City-themed sets, taking its cue from 2014’s Arctic Explorers. This teaser was announced via the German LEGO Catalog for the months of January to June, 2018, and this time around, Promobricks shares with us once again another page from the catalog that gives us an idea on when the next exciting sets will appear. According to the German LEGO fan site, the LEGO Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom sets will be out in the open also in May, 2018, as you can see from the image below.
A rough translation of the caption as seen in the above page says that “the sets will be available starting middle of May”, instead of April as we previously reported. There is no exact date mentioned, but we assume that we will start seeing official images of the LEGO Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom sets popping up towards the end of April. As listed by Brickset, we expect to see at least five regular sets under the theme, with hopefully some new dinos to go around.
Stay tuned here on the Brick Show for more up-to-the-minute LEGO news and updates. Thanks again to Promobricks for the tip.
It seems that we’re getting more and more information on what’s in store with LEGO’s biannual LEGO Catalog. We already know that Ukraine’s LEGO Catalog already gave a hint at the release dates of the Marvel Superheroes Infinity War and Star Wars Solo sets, and this time around some of our friends from Promobricksmanaged to get their hands on a copy of the German LEGO Catalog which was reported to be distributed by other toy retailers in the region. Now traditionally, these January to June catalogs are not released in any LEGO Brand Stores earlier than the January, while other retailers may opt to distribute them early on. Such is the case with the Promobricks team, as they managed to get a copy of the LEGO Catalog from third party retailers ahead of its usual January release.
As such, we now have a glimpse on what LEGO has in store for the first half of 2018. One particular page in the catalog hints that a previous LEGO City subtheme is slated to be revived once more. Check out this page from the 2018 LEGO catalog.
For those of you who were particularly fond of LEGO City’s 2014 Arctic subtheme, you’ll be glad to know that the theme may eventually make a comeback albeit as a revamped version. The words on this page roughly translate from German as “Discover starting May 25, 2018 a new world of LEGO City at your retailer,”. The polar ice cap backdrop, together with the arctic explorer and husky, says it all. It seems like LEGO is on a roll with the introduction of newer wave of LEGO City sets, with the Mountain Police and Mining sets still very much at large in the market. However, considering the progression of these City themes, the revival of the Arctic subtheme seems to be a reasonable offering not being too far behind from the concept of the Mountain Police sets.
The LEGO City Arctic Base Camp (60036) from 2014. Are we to see this theme getting a second wind in 2018?
So what do you think brick fans, are you excited about these recent developments with the LEGO City theme? Will this be another re-release of some sorts, or do you think we’ll be seeing a whole new range of sets? Frankly speaking, I’m not really fond of the predominantly orange color scheme on the 2014 LEGO City Arctic sets, so an entirely new recolor will be very much welcomed. Will probably get to see the official images of these latest LEGO City sets as early as April, alongside the highly anticipated LEGO Marvel Superheroes Infinity War and those coming from the Star Wars Solo sets.
Thanks again to Promobricks for sharing this information.
