This week’s turning out to be a big whirlwind of reveals and releases. LEGO set announcements from the past weeks and months finally get either box art previews, or availability at Shop@Home. Best case scenario, both of these happen. That said, we now confirm the release of some film tie-ins.
“The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part” premiered back in the early days of February. The month before that, tie-in sets for it were first unveiled at the 2019 London Toy Fair. It took quite a while, but long after the movie finally ended Shop@Home now has the “LEGO Movie 2” tie-ins available for purchase.
But wait! Didn’t the last announcements for them imply a release of May 1? It’s just like LEGO to pleasantly surprise us like this. While their product listings on Shop@Home don’t even have the official images yet, the accompanying words in green say “Available now.”
Here are the newly-released “LEGO Movie 2” tie-in sets in question for a quick recap:
The Rexcelsior set (70839) is certainly an impressive model build as seen in the movie; time to go and buy if the “LEGO Movie” franchise is your line of choice.
Towards the end of January, LEGO has announced at the annual Nuremberg Toy Fair in Germany that its next line of LEGO City themed sets will be a sort of trip back to memory lane with the launch (pun intended) of its new LEGO City Space subtheme, slated for release this summer. Now thanks to online Dutch toy retailer KelCha Toys, we now have our first look at our LEGO City Space Summer 2019 set images. I’m not really sure about the accuracy of the set’s titles and their respective product descriptions since they were roughly translated from Dutch courtesy of Google Translate. Nevertheless, it’s an interesting read that gives a glimpse of what we can expect from these LEGO City Space sets once they are made available sometime in June.
I know most of us AFOLs are fans of the classic LEGO Space theme, with LEGO some what reviving this classic line back in 2011 and 2015. So for those who were not able to get their hands on these previous sets 8 and 4 years ago respectively, now’s the good time to get these latest sets. As a final note, its nice of LEGO to include another People Pack together with these subtheme, which offers a lot of new pieces and elements.

The interlocking-brick system that defines the LEGO toy brand and its products have also proven itself a popular design aesthetic. Independent designers have made furniture that is “compatible” with LEGO bricks, or brick-shaped Halloween costumes. There has also been licensed decorative merchandise such as large stud-shaped wall hangers on Amazon. Speaking of Amazon, some more LEGO-themed products have been found listed on their platform. The LEGO storage brick-boxes are good for keeping little things organized. They come in either a box form, with an enclosing top lid shaped like a brick’s pegs, or drawer form with drawers coming out of one side.
Amazon’s LEGO Storage Brick-Boxes listings also include variations in color and shape. They’ve got primary colors as well as different shades. Box shapes consist of slim 1×2 bricks right up to the big 2×4. The boxes are also stackable like the LEGO image they invoke.
We have here a sampling of the LEGO Storage Brick-Boxes found on Amazon. Listed below are some notable items:
In the LEGO Asian regional markets, the natural focus would be in China. After all, they have the LEGO factory, and the big-name seasonal set exclusives come from there. But Singapore is no slouch in doing exclusives either. Their LEGO Store in Changi Airport had an exclusive micro-build offered recently.
But now, LEGO Singapore itself is ready to do something bigger. Their official Facebook page just teased a limited-edition set. And this looks like something that won’t be placed on store shelves for conventional purchase. Finally, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what franchise this set ties to.
We only have this single image shared by LEGO Singapore to work with. As surmised by LEGO news sources like Brick Fanatics, this is likely a minifigure-prominent set, judging from the faint pictures on the sides. The box with the Avengers logo is a buildable carrying case, apparently hinged to allow access to the minifigs.
Singaporean LEGO collectors won’t have to wait too long for this exclusive. The “Avengers: Endgame” movie that this set ties into will be premiering this week after all. This minifigure box should arrive on the heels of the Avengers Tower (40334) promotional set, which is free with a minimum LEGO purchase of 75, be it in dollars, pounds or euros.
LEGO collectors in Asia might remember this year as the time LEGO went all-out in pushing Chinese-themed regional sets. I don’t think anyone who’s seen the Chinese New Year’s Eve Dinner (80101) and Dragon Dance (80102) would forget how they look so easily. But they weren’t the only sets released.
Back when these Seasonal Chinese themed sets were still front-page LEGO news, there was actually a third set announced too. Unfortunately LEGO had images of the third one watermarked, so it’s been quietly released in Asian markets. Finally, a LEGO retailer from Macau has put images of the set online.
True, it now bears the watermark of DigiBee Macau, but this is arguably the first published image of the LEGO Dragon Boat Race set (80103). Aside from that, DigiBee offers no info on its price and piece count (not printed on the box). We can determine things from the art.
As visible on the main image, the Dragon Boat Race (80103) depicts two dragon boats with teams of rowers and a riverside viewing platform for audience and race officials. It has got the largest minifigure count for all these seasonal Chinese LEGO sets at 15.
Probable estimate for the release of this set on the Asian regional markets is from May to June. That’s in synergy with the real-life Dragon Boat Festival, which in 2019 will take place June 7. Again, US collectors must resign themselves to combing secondary markets if they want this set, seeing that it’s also regional-exclusive.
Quite the number of LEGO product themes had loosed their initial set offerings for 2019 these past months. But now that the spotlight-stealers like LEGO Star Wars 20th Anniversary have already introduced their lineup, we can focus on the other lines. For instance, LEGO Ninjago also has Summer 2019 sets.
The first peep about this year’s first salvo of LEGO Ninjago sets was in January during the Nuremberg Toy Fair. We got six names but no images. That shortcoming’s been remedied by Swiss LEGO news source Mein Spielzeug. Not only the six from Nuremberg but some new items were previewed.
Lloyd’s Journey (70671) – alternatively named Attack of the Ice Samurai from the Nuremberg Toy Fair
Cole’s Dirt Bike (70672)
Shuricopter (70673) – first new 2019 Ninjago set not from the NTF preview
Fire Fang (70674) – alternately named Fire Snake at the NTF
Katana 4×4 (70675)
Lloyd’s Titan Mech (70676)
Land Bounty (70677) – alternately named Desert Glider
Castle of the Forsaken Emperor (70678) – alternately called the Ice Age Fortress
Spinjitzu Slam – Lloyd (70681)
Spinjitzu Slam – Jay (70682)
Spinjitzu Slam – Zane (70683)
Spinjitzu Slam – Kai vs. Samurai (70684)
The Nuremberg Toy Fair preview notes that these 2019 LEGO Ninjago sets will be released in August. This has likely not changed for these products. That means we’ll be waiting for about four months more.
T.S. Eliot once said in The Waste Land, that April might as well be the cruelest month, and this has been proven true for the people of France, and the rest of the world. On April 15, 2019 the revered Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris suffered a gruelling 15-hour fire, setting a blaze not just the centuries-old structure but also destroying timeless pieces of religious arts and relics contained in its sacred halls. Needless to say, the French government was quick to take action with President Emmanuel Marcon launching a fundraising campaign which has now reached a staggering 1 billion USD and still counting. Adult fans of LEGO has also pledged their own share of support, rallying together online, asking The LEGO Group to launch an official LEGO set commemorating the Notre-Dame Cathedral. Though we may never see LEGO come up with an official set that is dedicated to a religious structure, there’s a way we can express our support in this mammoth restoration project, while immortalizing this structure in LEGO bricks at the same time.
The Brick Show Shop is joining bricks with MinifigFX and Build Better Bricks to help us show our support in the restoration of this historic cathedral. Coming in at 172 pieces, ordering this limited-edition Notre-Dame Cathedral build is one way of showing our support in its restoration. For every set ordered from The Brick Show Shop (retailing for $30), $20 of the proceeds will be sent to The Friends of Notre-Dame public charity. Please do take note that only 100 sets will be made, and pre-orders are now accepted. Check out the set details below.

You may have noticed that it’s been a while since we’ve featured a LEGO Store Calendar here on The Brick Show. Part of the reason would be that they’ve stopped featuring promotional items of the month there. That’s usually the main draw for the store calendars. Without them, promos tend to catch buyers by surprise.
But that seems to apply only to LEGO Store Calendars for the US. In other countries the promotional items are still included along with their promo periods. Our fellow LEGO news sources (and online set guide) Brick Set discovered the May 2019 promo items from a Hungarian LEGO Store Calendar.
We’re not certain if this will also apply to stateside LEGO Stores next month but here goes. For all days of May any minimum LEGO purchase of 15,000 Hungarian forints will add a LEGO Star Wars Battle of Hoth – 20th Anniversary Edition (40333) set free.
Now we go to the caveats. In US dollars 15,000 Hungarian forints will amount to $52.67 rounded to the nearest $9.99; but that’s not set in stone. Furthermore, we’re not certain if this Hungarian promo will also be replicated elsewhere. Still, we have something new to keep an eye out for when May comes around.
The LEGO Star Wars Battle of Hoth – 20th Anniversary Edition (40333) isn’t like the other big anniversary sets (that have numbers starting with 7). Rather, this is a micro-build of the famous Hoth battleground with a deflector shield generator, an attacking AT-AT and defending Snowspeeders.
It has been a long road when it comes to the finalist designs submitted by participating AFOLs to BrickLink’s Designer Program. These 16 MOCs were then subjected to a crowd-funding stage to ensure their production. We even got to see the neat packaging for them, which includes impressive folding backgrounds.
The crowd-funding period for BrickLink’s AFOL Designer Program ended this week. As expected only 13 of the 16 finalists have met and exceeded the necessary funding goals. They’re the ones that will go into production.

If you’re wondering why only 12 sets have been listed above, that’s because the 13th set, Löwenstein Castle by Raziel_Regulus is already sold out (despite its $199.99 price tag). BrickLink now only needs to finalize their previewed packaging design and building instructions, and the sets will be shipped out to the pre-orders by May.
Supporters of the BrickLink AFOL Designer Program sets will receive their pre-ordered sets of choice without shipping fees, following a confirmation email within the next few weeks. The sets themselves will become conventionally available to order on BrickLink by April 22. Those who will jump in by then will have shipping added to their orders.
