Summer 2018 LEGO City Arctic Set Names and Numbers Revealed!

UPDATED (02/12/2018): It seems that I have overlooked this one. I intend to say ‘set numbers’ and NOT images. However, to make up for this error, here are the ‘images’, though insufferably blurred so we can have a narrow escape from the brick police.

Last month, we reported on how things will look like this summer as far as the LEGO City theme is concerned. With this year’s LEGO City Mining sets just coming in, and the Mountain Police still enjoying some relative degree of following since it was made available last December, it looks like LEGO has already mapped out the LEGO City landscape for 2018.

After the tease published by LEGO on the January to May LEGO Catalog, we now have confirmation that the next wave of Summer LEGO City sets is indeed an Arctic themed one.

We were able to gather some intel on these upcoming LEGO City Arctic set names and numbers for your reference. I will try to describe these sets later on, but in the mean time, you might be interested to know that the LEGO City Artic theme is made up primarily of orange and blue pieces, with a set having a nice, new mammoth bigfig.

Here’s the set names and images.

Are LEGO Unikitty Sets Arriving in 2018?

Fans of the LEGO Movie and its corresponding sets may be happy to know that our favorite feline (or unicorn) of positivity may soon have an entire series of LEGO sets under her name. The breakout star of 2014’s The LEGO Movie did gain a good deal of followers and some LEGO sets to her credit. She may not have received the same glamor treatment as that of Batman, with his very own moment on the big screen and a relatively huge number of LEGO sets under his belt, but LEGO did give her some separate screen time when Cartoon Network recently launched an animated series dedicated to Unikitty’s wacky adventures along with the rest of her zany new friends.

TV unikitty

This time, it looks like Unikitty will not just have a CN cartoon series of her own, but a number of LEGO sets to go along with it as well. As it seems, this still yet-to-be confirmed LEGO theme has been disclosed from an unlikely source. Online book distributor BulkBookStore.com has listed an upcoming Scholastic Book title that gives an overview of what to expect from this latest LEGO-themed book, and I guess it has revealed more than what it meant to. Here’s a screenshot of the page from their website just in case…

LEGO Unikitty

Entitled as LEGO Unikitty’s Guide to Being Happy, the book is intended for children ages 6 to 8 and is slated to be released on October 30 retailing for $6.99. What is very interesting about this listing is the way Scholastic worded its overview, and to quote (emphasis mine):

A guide from LEGO(R) Unikitty(TM) herself! The breakout star from The LEGO Movie gets her very own Cartoon Network TV show and toy line from The LEGO Group beginning in 2018. The series follows Princess Unikitty — whose efforts to stay positive no matter what sometimes make her prone to the occasional “rage-out” — as she keeps busy with royal responsibilities. Unikitty is most interested in making sure everyone is happy and in ridding the kingdom of negativity. She often fights the bad vibes that come from her nemesis, Master Frown, a big ol’ jerk who lives in the next city over: Frowntown. Joined by a cast of wild characters, Unikitty and her friends make sure that every day is the happiest and most creative ever.

So, are you ready to vanquish all negativity in Unikitty Kingdom? Are you ready to take on the forces of evil and spread rainbows and sunshine? Are you ready to get happy? Then this is the guide for you!

Is Scholastic hinting on new a series of LEGO sets for Unikitty and her friends? Furthermore, if the book is expected to be released in October, is it possible that these new LEGO Unikitty sets will be a part of LEGO’s summer wave of releases? Sure, we already have the LEGO Movie sets that bear the sought after multicolored unicorn – 7 in fact – but none of these have placed Unikitty in the forefront except Cloud Cuckoo Palace (70803).

70803 1

If indeed what scholastic has revealed is true, then we can expect a wave of similarly designed sets later on. It is also interesting to see how the characters from the TV series will eventually turn out as LEGO minifigures if indeed this happens. We haven’t received any official word yet from LEGO as of the moment, so until then, it will be wise to grab the shaker and take these things with a pinch of salt. We just have to keep our fingers crossed until then.

FYI: The banner image above is from the promotional exclusive Unikitty minifigure given away during the San Diego Comic Con 2014 just in case we get too hyped.

Tel Aviv, Israel Builds World’s Tallest LEGO Tower in Memory of Departed LEGO Fan.

We’ve covered some really monumental constructions done by The LEGO Group or groups of avid collectors serving as public attractions in places where they have been erected. One example was the commemorative wind turbine LEGO statue built by the company itself, on display in the UK since November last year.

Now, another LEGO construction project has been revealed to be finished at the start of 2018. It’s in the shape of a cross-shaped tower of bricks going up in the city of Tel Aviv in Israel. And it’s in the running with Guinness for being the world’s tallest LEGO tower.

LEGO Tallest Tower Tel Aviv 2 1024x768

The project is a joint effort by residents of Tel Aviv, using more than half a million LEGO bricks to build the structure, 36 meters high. Towards the end of the work, a construction crane from the rooftop of a multi-story building behind the LEGO tower was being used to add the last few bricks.

Now standing proudly in Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square, the LEGO tower was celebrated by thousands of local residents who took part in its construction. The monument is also a memorial, in honor of Israeli LEGO fan Omer Sayag, who died of cancer back in 2014. It’s fitting then that the brick-built edifice will be named Omer Tower in his memory.

Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai lauded the people of his city who participated in the LEGO building endeavor, saying that it was successful in “bringing together all parts of {their} community.” All that remains now is for officials from the Guinness Book of World Records to make its inspection and ratify the LEGO tower as the tallest in brick structure in the world.

LEGO Star Wars DJ Minifigure Polybag (40298) Now Available at Toys ‘R’ US, with Possible Promo Coming.

Viewers who saw the Star Wars: The Last Jedi on cinemas last December will likely remember the brief appearance of Benicio Del Toro as a bit character in the narrative. He played the character DJ, a gambler and code-breaker hired by the Resistance to help them evade the evil First Order.

At first he appeared not up to reputation, then later on proved his resourcefulness to finish the job. While apparently helping Rey and Rose, he alternatively showed greed and compassion. When the deed was finally done, he succeeded in his assignment only to sell out the Resistance to buy his own freedom from imprisonment.

Such a minor, yet game-changing character was ultimately captured by LEGO to be immortalized in minifigure form in the LEGO Star Wars DJ Collectible Minifigure (40298) polybag. First announced as a promotional item in LEGO Brand Stores to celebrate the premiere of The Last Jedi, it has been reported that the  now going to branch out to Toys R Us.

39425849712 d96b10791c e1515018497462

So far, the only information about the LEGO Star Wars DJ minifigure polybag (40298) was that it will be coming to TRU and that it’s priced at the expected $4.99; there’s the possibility that the retail giant might have their own promotional, but no word has been given.

The DJ polybag (40298) is similar to the minifigure polybags of R3-M2 (40268) and Scarif Stormtrooper (40176), in that all three comprise of the minifigs themselves, connectible stands and background cards. If Toys R Us are planning any special promos involving DJ, we’ll find out and keep our readers informed so I hope you keep tabs with us.

LEGO Collectible Minifigure Series 18 Rumors.

😀 Update: We have the names for all 17 of the Series 18 minifigures.

Earlier last year, we reported on a rumor via Eurobricks that the next LEGO Collectible Minifigure Series, Series 18 in particular, will be celebrating the 40th Year Anniversary of the LEGO minifigure. What better way to celebrate it is to have a costume-themed party! Everything has been speculations regarding the actual figures that will be included – until now.

Just recently, Brick Show has obtained information about how the LEGO CMF Series 18 will be like, and as it seems, early rumors and predictions were correct. According to our sources, Series 18 consists of a blind bag that clearly shows LEGO’s 40th Minifigure Anniversary. Furthermore, the bag itself has a party theme vibe, and since this is a celebration of the iconic minifig’s anniversary, what is interesting is the reported inclusion of LEGO’s 40th Minifigure Anniversary logo. As mentioned in previous reports, Series 18 is expected to have a total of 17 minifigures and the blind bag highlights 9 of the characters included in the series. What we heard so far ties up with was discussed in fan forums so far. Here’s what we know based on our sources.

  • Blue Brick Costume Girl
  • Red Brick Costume Guy
  • Cactus Girl
  • Spider Monster Costume Guy
  • Rocket Guy
  • Classic Sailor (minifigure head is based on the classic, generic LEGO minifigures)
  • Cowboy Costume Guy
  • Party Girl With Balloon
  • Party Host/Cake Guy

Obviously, there are still other minifigure characters that were not included in the said blind bag packaging, and since this is a minifigure costume party, we can surely expect a lot of costume donned minifigs. Some candidates are animals and additional food costumes to liven up the anniversary party.

Overall, this looks like to be an exciting CMF Series with plenty of costumes to go around. Again, these are reports from our sources and should be best treated as rumors and taken with a pinch of salt. Nevertheless, the prospect of seeing a costume party-themed CMF is a nice one.

So what do you think brick fans, can you imagine how these Series 18 minifigs will look like? Which one do you think will be your favorite? Let us know in the comments below.

LEGO Offers Seasonal Chinese New Year Set in the US with Year of the Dog (40235).

Hey, we’re now two days into the year 2018 – at least in the Western or Gregorian calendar sense. To those who observe or at least join in with the celebration of the Chinese New Year, it won’t be until February 16 next month for the Year of the Earth Dog.

Leave it to LEGO to prove itself as a truly international brand by including a seasonal brick set to celebrate the new Dog Year. The 2018 Seasonal Year of the Dog (40235) depicts a smiling brown and white dog sitting at attention with its red tongue visible and tail wagging.

This seasonal consideration was started by LEGO back in 2013, when they announced building its first factory in China, geared to their Asian market. That had been the Year of the Snake (10250). Since then, Sheep (40148), Monkey (40207) and Rooster (40234) have gotten Seasonal sets of their own, and Dog (40235) won’t be long coming.

Originally available in Asian LEGO Stores, Seasonal Year of the Dog (40235) is going to be the first to be offered internationally, with one free for every minimum LEGO purchase of $88. The number 88 represents fortune and good luck in Chinese culture. It’s an appropriately symbolic promo price limit.

40235 1

If you or anybody you know was born in the Year of the Dog (2006, 1994, 1982, 1970) then the LEGO Seasonal Year of the Dog (40235) will make for a wonderful Chinese New Year gift. The set is available from February 16 – Chinese New Year – to the 28th.

More 2018 LEGO Harry Potter News: Set Numbers and Release Date Confirmed.

There has been much speculation and rumors that have appeared recently regarding the much talked about 2018 LEGO Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts 2 sets, and last week, we reported on five, still yet to be confirmed sets. Three of which were said to showcase three ‘general’ Harry Potter sets while 2 are tie-ins for the upcoming Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. These are, at its best, rumors and should be considered as purely speculative – until now.

Brick Show has received intel from a reliable source that these rumored LEGO Harry Potter sets are indeed part of the summer wave of releases that LEGO has in store, few months before the release of the Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald in November. For reference, here are the set numbers with no official set names yet as of this writing. I also included the size of the set so you can have a better idea on their relative sizes.

2018 LEGO Harry Potter Sets
  • 75950 – Confidential LEGO Harry Potter (19.1 x 14.1 x 4.6 cm)
  • 75953 – Confidential LEGO Harry Potter (48 x 28.2 x 7.4 cm)
  • 75954 – Confidential LEGO Harry Potter (48 x 37.8 x 7.1 cm)
2018 LEGO Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
  • 75951 – Confidential LEGO Fantastic Beasts (26.2 x 14.1 x 4.8 cm)
  • 75952 – Confidential LEGO Fantastic Beasts (38.2 x 26.2 x 5.7 cm)

Again, these are expected to be released in August which also corresponds to release dates that we saw earlier regarding the Summer LEGO Star Wars and Technic sets. What is interesting to note is the size of set 75954 being the largest among these. It should be noted that such dimensions are somehow similar to the Death Star (75159) and Taj Mahal (10256) in terms of their height. If this is indeed the rumored Hogwarts Great Hall, then it is not difficult to imagine the possibility of a D2C set in such a scale.

So I guess this is the sort of ‘unofficial’ confirmation that everyone is raring to hear. It’s just a matter of time before we can finally have their complete set names and hopefully some images once the New York Toy Fair 2018 kicks in.

New LEGO Batman Movie The Mini Ultimate Batmobile (30526) Polybag Spotted!

This one came out of nowhere, really. Just when you think that LEGO is now getting ready to put TLBM sets inside the vault, now comes a new polybag that I strongly feel will be highly sought after. Just before New Year’s Day, Hoth Bricks managed to acquire an image of the latest TLBM polybag that will be released anytime soon.

The LEGO Batman Movie The Mini Ultimate Batmobile (30526) polybag, as the name suggests, is a smaller replica of the larger Ultimate Batmobile (70917) set released last year.  The cool thing about this polybag version is that it managed to replicate not just the Ultimate Batmobile itself, but also three out of four vehicles that made it up: the Batmobile itself, Bat-Tank, and Bat-Wing. Unfortunately, there is no provision for the Bat-Cycle.

30526

Another difference with this polybag version as compared to its larger sibling is that it only allows you to make each of the vehicle at a time, unlike the larger set which divides into four separate vehicles including the Bat-Cycle. This is somehow expected from a polybag at this scale since it is only slightly larger from The Mini Batmobile (30521) polybag.

30526 01

What I also find particularly interesting is the use of the striking red rims (Front Wheel Casing 3x4x1 2/3 #8 6186110) on this build which can only be found in Lightning McQueen as is seen in the latest LEGO Juniors Cars 3 sets. There is no word yet on when and where this latest TLBM polybag will be released, but I’m sure it will be a popular hit among TLBM fans.

A hat tip once more to Hoth Bricks for sharing this info.

Our next modular building – the LEGO Creator Downtown Diner (10260) – together with more than 120 news sets are now available at LEGO shop@Home. For those of you who are patiently waiting for the Diner to go live both online and in LEGO brand stores since it was announced last November, then your patience has definitely been rewarded.

Consisting of 2,480 pieces, the LEGO Creator Downtown Diner (10260) is the 13th advanced modular building set that comes in the series since 2007. It has six minifigures and retails exclusively at all LEGO stores and at shop.LEGO.com for $169.99. Now that leaves us with only a hotel which is still yet to be included in the modular series. Is set designer Mike Psiaki hinting at what’s next as he drops the question in the Downtown Diner Designer Video? That is really something to look forward to.

Other notable 2018 sets that you might be interested to look at is the latest series of LEGO Star Wars and DC BrickHeadz including Rey (41602) and Kylo Ren (41603), Flash (41598), Wonder Woman (41599), Aquaman (41600) and Cyborg (41601). Also probably included in your list of must-haves is the LEGO Batman Movie Collectible Minifigures Series 2, mostly highlighting some of the DC superheroes and baddies in the film. Each blind bag retails for $3.99, and I’m hoping to land on my personal favorites – Tropical Joker and Swimming Pool Batman.

TLBM Series 2 710

Another one that you might be interested in is the LEGO City Mining Experts Site (60188) set which comes in at 883 pieces and featuring the latest train track element first used in the LEGO Batman Movie Joker Manor (70922). The Mining Experts Site (60188) retails for $99.99 and comes with 6 minifigures and a new bear element. This and the rest of the 2018 LEGO City Mining sets are now available across all LEGO stores and online.

60188 1

Finally, LEGO Technic fans will be glad to hear that the exquisitely beautiful Mack Anthem (42078) is now up and listed at shop.LEGO.com. Retailing at $179.99, this huge 2-in-1 set comes in at 2,595 pieces, and also features a unique Mack bulldog hood ornament for that detailed replica of the iconic Mack LR garbage truck.

42078 1

These and a lot more are now available at all LEGO stores, so be sure to drop by your nearest LEGO store and see what you can find, especially if you still have some holiday cash to spend. I know Brian is looking forward to building his LEGO Downtown Diner so perhaps a review is in the works. Stay tuned!

Our Next LEGO Keychain in 2018 is… a Brick Separator?!

AFOLs will definitely find this either obnoxiously cute, or a heartfelt must have – and I’m inclined to gravitate towards the latter. Zusammengebaut brought to our attention the next series of LEGO keychains for 2018 (whose official images were uploaded recently via LEGO servers) and one of these is not the typical keychain that you might have expected. I have a couple of LEGO keychains myself, mostly of minifigures that I really like such as the Gingerbread Man, but this time, I will definitely want this included in my must have checklist. Because as an AFOL who has just risen from his dark ages, the Brick Separator will be the symbol of my return to the hobby. Check this out and hopefully, never lose your LEGO brick separator again!

LEGO Brick Separator Key Chain (853792)

853792

Now isn’t that a sight to behold. I know some of you will vehemently react with disdain on such an idea, thinking that whoever thought about this is either lazy or just simply believe that we live in a LEGO brick world, thus the need for a handy brick separator everywhere we go (ok, that sounds too far-fetched). But for some reason, I am drawn in wanting to have it – really, seriously.

Anyways, but for those of you who doesn’t want to have a dangling brick separator hanging on your backpacks, then you’ll be happy to know that LEGO has also uploaded two new keychains based on LEGO CMF Series 17’s Butterfly Girl and Corn Cob Guy.

LEGO Corn Cob Guy Key Chain (853794)

LEGO Butterfly Girl Key Chain (853795)

853795

We don’t have a price tag yet for these  newest set of LEGO gears, but knowing that they are now uploaded to LEGO servers means that we will see them soon at LEGO shop@Home.

Now pardon me, I still need to find my trusty brick separator and see if I can bore a hole through it…
