LEGO Creator Skiing Santa Still Active In-Store GWP in UK, Europe Until Dec. 24

When it came to special offers in the vein of GWPs, the December 2021 LEGO Store Calendar was…sparse. Only one item was listed there, and only available in-store instead of online. That would be a Creator polybag with the figure of a jolly Skiing Santa Claus (30580). It could be earned free for every in-store LEGO purchase over $40, from December 1 to 14. Well, that promo period has come and gone since last week, at least in the US. As Brick Fanatics tells it however, Skiing Santa Claus is still around in Europe. And he’s staying until Christmas Eve.

Indeed, it can be seen as such in the Offers & Sale page of LEGO.com for GB. Creator Skiing Santa Claus (30580) remains active in-store GWP not just in the UK but Europe too. As with the now-ended US edition, the buildable figure polybag is earned with in-store LEGO purchases over 40. That’s in pounds or euros depending on where. It also goes hand-in-hand with the full seasonal set Santa’s Front Yard (40484). This similarly long-running GWP goes for both in-store and online orders over £170/€170. Both it and Skiing Santa are available right until December 24, quite appropriate enough.

More 2022 LEGO Polybag Images Surface

Early this month, we covered the reveal of the first LEGO polybags noted to be coming next year. Already we at The Brick Show felt that this batch of 2022 polys would only be the tip of the iceberg. Indeed they were, even if that was barely a surprise. Small and simple as they are, multiple unique LEGO polybags can be churned out in a year. Promobricks.de gives us word of these new reveals, courtesy of brickdex.io, a new price comparison platform. We’ve got multiple polybags under major LEGO themes unlike last time. There’s still no word however on which polybags will sell in-store and which are promo items only.

2022 LEGO Polybag Images Revealed

As you may have noticed, LEGO is now announcing sets coming this 2022, left and right. The reveals range across all popular themes and licensed IPs, as well as size. From sprawling city skylines to towering sci-fantasy rockets to adorable BrickHeadz, the January 1 launch window’s pretty packed. That goes also for the extremely small end of the LEGO set spectrum. Beyond a new LEGO Star Wars Microfighter we’ll also be seeing a selection of polybags. Granted, this particular LEGO reveal is sparsely detailed in comparison. We have no idea if the polybags are purchasable as is or GWPs instead, and when they’ll even appear.

While the following next-year LEGO polybags haven’t even got a LEGO.com listing, we at least know how they look now. Particularly noteworthy is the Technic polybag. Early in November the UK-published “LEGO Giant Series” Technic Mag featured a polybag in the cover. Their product numbers are even close enough by a few tens. Apparently they’d be the first Technic polybags to come out since the last ones in 2000. Sounds like it’s certainly worth collecting, along with the rest, as covered by The Brick Fan:

  • LEGO Friends Market Stall (30416)

30416 1

  • LEGO Technic Volvo Wheel Loader (30433)

30433 1

  • LEGO Star Wars AT-ST (30495)

30495 1

  • LEGO Monkie Kid Monkie Kid’s Underwater Journey (30562)

30562 1

  • LEGO City Kids’ Playground (30588)

30588 1

That’s all we have for now, but we’ll bet more LEGO polybags will follow throughout 2022.

UK LEGO Technic Magazine Releases with the LEGO Technic Helicopter (30465) Polybag

You probably remember from years past when we occasionally covered issue releases of LEGO publications. It’s been a good long while now. The scarcity perhaps lies in the fact that many LEGO magazines are published in the UK. Furthermore, their content tends to be more advertising than feature stories and such. The exposure they did get with us might be due to some extra stuff they were packing inside their foil wraps. Recently, a one-off UK-published LEGO mag has hit shelves, and it comes with the new LEGO Technic Helicopter (30465) polybag. This latest offering may well be the smallest LEGO Technic set ever packaged.

LEGO Technic Helicopter

Brickset tells us that British publishing house Immediate Media has put out a LEGO Technic magazine. This issue appears to be just one for the Technic theme, part of their “LEGO Giant Series” mag line. The real attention-grabber is its cover-mounted polybag, hailed to be the first Technic polybag since the last one from 2000. That’s two decades. The Technic Helicopter (30465) hearkens back to the theme’s small releases in the late 1990s. This little guy comes in just 70 pieces. That may well be one of the tiniest official Technic builds in the line.

In terms of magazine content, this LEGO Technic publication features a Technic “major events” timeline. Four LEGO designers for the theme are also profiled on its pages. All those and a Technic polybag should be worth the £4.99 issue price. The mag is available in UK newsstands and shopping centers.

LEGO to Repack Baseplates in Paper with New Numbers Starting March 2022

Long aware that its plastic bricks potentially contribute to global garbage, LEGO takes its environmental sustainability initiatives seriously. In their recent 1HY-2021 Financial Results report, the company announced the success of their paper packaging trial period. LEGO thus plans to increase implementation of paper-bag packaging for their products from 2022 to 2025. Eventually the familiar plastic polybags will be phased out for sustainable paper material. Now there are certain ancillary LEGO products that would be packed in paper sooner than others. As The Brick Fan would have it, paper packs may become the norm for LEGO baseplates by next year.

For LEGO builders who want their constructs, particularly structures, to stay put, baseplates are essential. Four baseplate colors will not only be repackaged in paper this coming 2022, they will be renumbered as well. Here’s a list for convenient reference.

  • Green Baseplate (10700) will become (11023)
  • Gray Baseplate (10701) will become (11024)
  • Blue Baseplate (10714) will become (11025)
  • White Baseplate (11010) will become (11026)

LEGO deems this announcement necessary because the old plastic-packed baseplates with old numberings will be “retired.” That of course would only make way for the new paper-packed baseplates with updated numbers. So we can nip any panic that “LEGO’s stopped making brick baseplates” in the bud. Worry not; a new sustainably-packaged line of LEGO baseplates will be arriving by March 2022.

LEGO Harry Potter Hermione’s Study Desk (30392) Polybag Surfaces

The LEGO Customer Service portal has been updated to include a new set of building instructions pointing towards a new LEGO Harry Potter polybag. A LEGO Harry Potter Hermione’s Study Desk (30392) polybag has now surfaced, thanks to the said entry listed over at LEGO.com.

LEGO Harry Potter Hermione's Study Desk

To be exact, the building instructions for this new polybag offering are not actually uploaded yet. Instead, a set placeholder and product image is now made available on the portal. The new polybag features Hermione in her early years at Hogwarts, featuring what seems to be a new minifigure torso print. Aside from the miniature study table and accessories, it’s nice to see that LEGO is also throwing in a collectible Wizard Card tile piece that they began introducing with this year’s LEGO Harry Potter 20th Anniversary Commemorative sets. This is a more cost-effective way of gathering these special tiles if you’re the completionist kind of LEGO collector.

Details are scant with regards to this polybag. However, my best guess is that this LEGO Harry Potter Hermione’s Study Desk polybag might be available as a promotional item or gift-with-purchase set sometime in September. If you recall, it was also around this time last year when LEGO offered a similar freebie in the form of the Harry Potter and Hedwig Owl Delivery (30420) polybag.

I’ll keep you posted once more information comes in, so be sure to bookmark our page for future updates.

Coming Soon: LEGO VIP Add-On Packs

The LEGO Customer Service Portal has been updated to include several building instructions placeholders that hint at the possibility of certain LEGO VIP Add-On packs to be released soon. To be precise, this listing does not include any building instructions, but images of what we can expect from these offerings.

More LEGO VIP Add-On Packs to be Expected This Year

Thanks to Brickset, we now have initial images of these LEGO VIP Add-On Packs and the elements and pieces that go along with them. Frankly, the concept is somewhat similar to the LEGO xtra theme, with the Add-On packs basically offering significantly more LEGO elements and pieces that revolve around a particular theme.

There’s no word as of now on how LEGO VIP members can avail of these add-ons. It might be a form of freebie that will be featured in next month’s LEGO Store Calendar, or perhaps as a reward via the LEGO VIP Rewards Center. We just have to wait and see. For now, it will be helpful if you can keep tabs on our blog site for future updates. Let’s take a look at what we can expect from these expansion packs.

More LEGO Super Mario Summer 2021 Sets Arriving Soon

It looks like we have confirmation on how LEGO intends to expand its 2021 portfolio of LEGO Super Mario sets, following the now-deleted listing from Romanian online store Auchan. Thanks to this tip, we now have an idea of what LEGO has in store for its LEGO Super Mario summer 2021 collection. This is not an all-inclusive set, and we can expect additional information to come out any time soon.

In the meantime, what we know is that we will be getting another expansion set in the form of a brick-built version of the Lakitu Heavenly World. It will feature Lakitu, Bullet Bill and Fuzzy, and will expect to retail for $40. We can also expect two new Power-Up costumes for Mario in the form of Frog Mario and Bee Mario each retailing for $10 similar to its predecessors.
