CONFIRMED: LEGO Star Wars Mini BB-8 (40288) Is This Year’s Exclusive LEGO May The 4th Promotional

Last week, we reported that the upcoming LEGO Star Wars May the 4th promotional will be very much similar to last year’s buildable R2-D2 (30611) polybag, and it looks like that our next similar promotional will be getting its inspiration from another one of Star Wars most famous droids. The confirmation comes from the LEGO Store Spring Catalog which is reported to be shipped together with sets that were ordered via LEGO Shop@Home, according to Promobricks. Based on one of its pages, this year’s May the 4th Promotional will be the LEGO Star Wars Mini BB-8 (40288) polybag as you can see below.

lego maythe4th2018 2

Similar to last year, this Mini-BB8 polybag will only be available on May 4, during which, it comes free for every $75 single receipt purchase of any LEGO Star Wars sets. This brick built figure is a whole lot different from TRU’s microbuild polybag Bricktober promo – first, it’s significantly large as compared from the previous TRU microbuild promo, giving the Mini BB-8 (40288) polybag an expected larger piece count. And secondly, like last year’s builable R2-D2 polybag, it comes with a uniquely printed dome piece, and 6×6 satellite dishes surrounding its body to give this mini BB-8 a spherical look.

Considering that this is only made available for a day, we can expect that this promotional will become one of the hottest, sought after items come May 4. So if you’re planning to purchase online, be sure to be quick on those mouse clicks once the clock strikes 12 midnight of May 4. If you prefer to drop by at your local LEGO store, then don’t forget to ask for this little buildable guy.

LEGO Wizarding World Minisite in LEGO.com Now Up (and Under Development)

With so many entertainment franchises around us, branding has become an essential means of standing out. Warner Bros. had a brilliant idea going when with the impending release of the next installment for the Fantastic Beasts spinoff of the Harry Potter films they’d group the two together under one banner.

That’s why The Crimes of Grindelwald is now prefaced in its trailer with the “Wizarding World” label, covering the movie adaptations of the Harry Potter books by JK Rowling and the Fantastic Beasts films which have the British author as screenwriter. Companies making Potter-verse tie-in merchandise are now following suit.

Of course, that also includes LEGO. Already the official website has begun work on a Harry Potter mini-section to be branded after “JK Rowling’s Wizarding World™”. This of course is in line with both the impending premiere of The Crimes of Gridelwald and the wave of upcoming LEGO Potter sets.

Said LEGO merchandise is roughly divided into tie-ins for Harry Potter and for Fantastic Beasts. For the latter, we have the “Grindelwald’s Escape” set (yet unnumbered) that captures a scene from the film hinted at in its first trailer; for the former, we have the magnificent Hogwarts Great Hall (75954).

And the deluge will not be stopping there. Other products such as Harry Potter minifigure collections and BrickHeadz sets are still waiting in the wings for releasing later this year. It’s a sure bet that these items will be populating the Wizarding World section of LEGO.com once it’s fully operational.

Official Images Of LEGO BrickHeadz Mr. Incredible and Frozone (41613) Released

After its appearance on the shelves of LEGOLAND Discovery Center last week, it looks like the LEGO BrickHeadz counterparts of Mr. Incredible and Frozone will also be available through other retailers. This is particularly the case with Toys R Us Singapore as they’ve listed the LEGO BrickHeadz Mr. Incredible and Frozone (41613) on their web store. Additionally, TRU’s regional site posted some crisp images of the set and its accompanying product description as you can see below.

A Closer Look At The LEGO Incredibles Edna Minifigure.

After the reveal of the exclusive LEGO Incredibles 2 Edna minifigure as a GameStop exclusive in the US, we now have a closer look at this video game minifig promotional. Listed over at eBay by a certain klocego1, the following images give us a better scrutiny of our superhero stylist’s minifig counterpart.

lego edna 2

As you can see from this image, this Edna exclusive minifigure comes with dual-sided face print as most of you have probably guessed. However, though I always appreciate dual-sided printing in any particular minifig, this version of Edna Mode somehow falls short of how I expect her to see in minifigure form. It will be better if she has the same detailing like how she is presented in the video game’s teaser trailer.

edna minifig

I understand that it is not cost-effective for LEGO to create and produce the same hairpiece and eye glasses mould in such small quantities, but it looks certainly better than having the glasses printed. With regards to the head print, I feel that E’s digital version in the video game trailer is closer to her big screen rendition. I wish LEGO could have done better with this particular design. On a more positive note, it’s good that the Edna minifig has front and back torso prints. The red v-neck accent is pretty spot-on against a predominantly black color scheme, as well as her shirt’s stripped pattern.

In any case, since this is a video game exclusive similar to the Giant-Man minifigure that came with the LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 video game released last November, then I understand that the Edna Mode minifigure will possibly be on the A-list of some LEGO minifig connoisseurs. So what do you think brick fans, will this minifig version of E motivate you to pre-order the LEGO Incredibles 2 video game? Let us know in the comments below.

Here’s How To Get The LEGO Incredibles Exclusive Edna Minifigure

Since last week, we are already aware that the LEGO Incredibles 2 video game will come bundled with an Edna minifigure. Though this LEGO exclusive minifigure has its fair share of criticisms for not being close or true enough to the looks of the superhero stylist, still, your Incredibles minifig collection will simply not be complete without this pivotal character.

If you intend to add her in your minifigure roster, then we now know where and when you can get this exclusive. Video game outlet GameStop, has already released its WeeklyAd for April 4 to 10, and one particular page highlights that the Edna minifig is a GameStop pre-order exclusive. However, you have to hurry since its a limited time offer and while supplies last.

OLFSI 040418 2

If you’re eyeing for the LEGO Incredibles 2 video game, and would like to bag this exclusive minifigure as well, then GameStop is the only place to be. This WB and TT Games collaboration is slated to be released on June 15, just in time with the film’s theatrical release also scheduled on the same day. It will be available across all major gaming platforms (PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC) and will retail for $59.99.

LEGO BrickHeadz Back to the Future Marty & Doc 2-Pack (41611) Spotted In Target

It took quite some time, February actually, but confirmation is finally here. We know that LEGO is expanding on their BrickHeadz line this year, with the tie-ins for Solo: A Star Wars Story and the full-customization set Go Brick Me (41597), but there’re also some blasts from the past.

By that we mean that a BrickHeadz 2-pack of Marty McFly and Doc Brown from the Back to the Future franchise, rumored since two months ago, has finally been confirmed. Not only do we learn its set number – (41611) – we also have a box image, a photo taken from an actual store.

Surprised? That’s because the picture was snapped off an actual LEGO BrickHeadz Back to the Future Marty and Doc (41611) on display at a Target store, according to Brickset which posted the news. This is very interesting as it seems Target is already selling before release date.

Now, the Brickset alert didn’t mention the price for this Back to the Future BrickHeadz 2-pack, though if it’s anything like other 2-packs it’ll be around $19.99 as well. Officially releasing in May, Marty and Doc will be joining the astounding 30-plus LEGO sets coming out for this year.

You’ve got to love how Marty’s hair is translated into brick form for his figure.

First Look At The LEGO Star Wars BB-8 (40288) Polybag

News of it first came out Sunday this week, so considering the fact that there were so many instances of “fake news” (of the intentionally hilarious April Fools’ type) that were flying about on the first of the month, we needed to take this one with a grain of salt.

Thankfully, it would seem that this piece of new LEGO Star Wars merchandise is on the level. While only one image of the final product is available now, it’s enough to confirm the existence of a new BB-8 polybag, numbered 40288. Chances are high that this is a promotional item.

We’ve gotten to see previous versions of a LEGO BB-8 before, from the 1106-piece LEGO Star Wars BB-8 (75187) to the micro-build that was done for Make and Take on OctoberNovember of last year at Toys ‘R’ Us stores (big sigh, folks). This one’s entirely new, and the design’s certainly a beauty.

This is an official polybag version of BB-8 so the details as seen in the photo are accurate to the breakout droid star from the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Some its components are printed in signature BB-8 decals, though of course they can be incorporated into bigger MOCs by builders.

No further details are available just yet on the LEGO Star Wars BB-8 polybag (40288), or for the promo that it’s involved in. So far, the signs in the stars leads to the possibility that this may be related to a May the 4th promotions, but until we have solid proof, then we will continue to keep an eye for future developments. The LEGO Store Calendar for the month of May is expected to out anytime soon, and hopefully by then we will get a confirmation.

LEGO Officially Announces Star Wars UCS Y-Wing Starfighter (75181), with Photos

You need only to look at their version of the venerable space freighter the Millennium Falcon to know without a doubt, that the Ultimate Collectors Series within the LEGO Star Wars line is one of the most awesome scale models ever. They could even give Japanese plastic models some competition.

On the last day of March, we managed to pick up some of the first images available of the latest LEGO Star Wars UCS model: the Y-Wing Star-fighter (75181). They consisted of photos of the box on a lucky store shelf. This time however, we’ve got more pictures to share.

The official images came in the wake of the formal announcement by LEGO of the UCS Y-Wing (75181). Now, franchise fans who have only followed the movies might remember the Y-Wing as a cannon fodder fighter craft, though its rep is a little bit better in the Expanded Universe/Legends continuity.

75181 Box5 v29

Regardless, LEGO’s UCS treatment of this space fighter-bomber is pure technical awesome. The assortment of 1967 bricks and building elements that come together to give form to the Y-Wing makes for one of the best Star Wars ship models yet.

75181 Func 01

Any mechanical fanatic will appreciate the detailing of the components of UCS Y-Wing (75181), from the placement of the laser turrets and ion cannon on the cockpit block section, to the proton torpedo tubes and the telltale engines. Also notable is the star-fighters color scheme of Gold Squadron from Episode IV – A New Hope, destroyed in the Death Star battle.

Being a Gold Squadron Y-Wing, the model also includes a minifigure of Gold Leader Jon Vander, as well as his trusty astromech droid R2-BHD.

Furthermore, the kit comes with its own display stand and info plaque, for display purposes. LEGO Star Wars UCS Y-Wing (75181) officially becomes available May 4.

Fun and Frustration: Favorite April Fools’ LEGO News from Last Sunday

We’re well into the first week of April now; that’s two days away from Sunday – Easter to some, April Fools’ Day to many more – when both the real world and the internet can go crazy for a little bit. That’s when some (fun) fake news gets posted online, after all.

Not even the LEGO new community is spared from getting suckered by a whopper or two. Believe me; a few times I started writing articles this Monday, only to stop after discovering the fibs. I figured it might be fun to feature the best April Fools LEGO news this year.

One majorly hilarious offender was LEGO itself, which posted what seemed like their first foray into household appliances with the “VacuSort” brick vacuum cleaner, supposedly able to sort the bricks it sucks up from the floor. To my shame, it being on official LEGO Facebook got me (almost) writing it.

TheBrickFan too had a major April Fools moment with one piece of news that got me genuinely hyped…and crushingly disappointed when I read the end of the article. After all, what collectible hunter wouldn’t be interested about collaboration between LEGO and vinyl figure maker Funko? But it was April Fools’.

LEGO Funko

The next joke LEGO news I’d like to feature comes from Bricks to Life, which may have pulled off the greatest licensed LEGO merchandise gag I’ve yet seen: a LEGO Watchmen videogame from the usual suspects of WB Interactive and Traveller’s Tales. Well, it IS a DC title after all.

Finally, Jay’s Brick Blog did an article about another LEGO entry foray, this time into crypto-currency. That’s right; Brickcoin. Then again, having knowledge of Bitcoin’s current status makes this April Fools’ news lose some bite.

Rich Cryptocurrency Trader 1024x557

There are more of these jokes floating about, but these are my favorites this 2018. Still, I invite you to search around some more to get a few more laughs in, before the week goes on and April 1 is eventually consigned to past memories.
