When Technic and Art Meet – Introducing 2018’s LEGO Technic Bugatti Chiron (42083).

The 2018 Nuremberg Toy Fair is now in full swing, and just when we thought that the apparent news about LEGO’s no-show on this year’s line-up of prestigious international toy fairs will somehow dampen the excitement, it seems that LEGO still have some cool surprises under its sleeves. Announced today at Germany’s largest toy fair expo, LEGO motor heads and super car connoisseurs will be delighted to know that this year’s next LEGO Technic supercar will be the classy yet sophisticated, Bugatti Chiron.

The Bugatti Chiron (42083) is also similarly designed at a 1:8 scale, in collaboration with Bugatti Automobiles SAS. As expected, images of this latest LEGO Technic supercar were not shown, except for the teaser image that was revealed at the Toy Fair.

More 2018 Nuremberg Toy Fair News: New LEGO Architecture Sets Announced.

As you already know, the 2018 Toy Fair in Nuremberg, Germany goes on from the end of January to the first week of February. Already some major reveals have gone out from there, including the first three tie-in LEGO and Duplo sets for Universal Pictures’ Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

And then, there are some bits of news that have been so restricted by LEGO’s efforts at photography restriction, that info on them has to be literally jotted down. German LEGO news source Zusammengebaut cleverly did that to tell the world of some of the new upcoming LEGO Architecture sets for this year.

DUyzdyyXUAIh0Zr

According to his hastily handwritten note (apparently LEGO overlooked this prohibition for the Toy Fair), two LEGO Architecture sets are going to be released later on in 2018, at the heels of the already-announced Las Vegas Skyline (21038). Included are the official set numbers and pricing in Euro.

First is the LEGO Architecture Great Wall of China (21041), a potentially long-winding structural set that’s priced at 49.99 Euros. But even that pales in comparison to the LEGO Architecture Statue of Liberty (21042), which, judging by its 99.99 Euro price, must be humongous indeed. 21042’s price point also suggests that it might be on the same scale as that of 2016’s United States Capitol Building (21030) which also has the same price range, coming in at 1,032 pieces.

Time will tell if later on during the Nuremberg Toy Fair, LEGO will opt to show the public what those Architecture sets must look like. They did the same for the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom sets after all, so we’ll see.

New 2018 LEGO Jurassic World Sets Revealed at Nuremberg Toy Fair.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the long-awaited follow-up to the 2015  sequel and comeback film of the Jurassic Park series, is set to premiere in the middle of this year. And as we reported on back in December 2017, LEGO’s going to release tie-in sets in line with the movie for franchise fans.

The first major look at these LEGO Jurassic World sets was finally granted at this year’s Nuremberg Toy Fair. LEGO and Universal announced that the first salvo of 13 product releases consists of several LEGO sets, a Juniors set and a Duplo set for younger ages. Here’s the official press release straight from Nuremberg.

NUREMBERG, Germany, Jan. 30, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Universal Brand Development (Universal) and the LEGO Group announced today the launch of their largest Jurassic World partnership to date, offering an expanded line of construction sets, all-new animated content, and, for the first time ever, a lifestyle collection. In anticipation of the upcoming global theatrical release of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom in June, Universal is building upon the success of LEGO Jurassic World, with the debut of construction sets that span every LEGO age category, as well as two all-new, animated videos, and a collection of soft lines and publishing to reach audiences beyond the toy aisle.

“Fans embraced LEGO Jurassic World with our initial product launch, and we couldn’t wait to come back and give them more of what they love with new ways to play and new opportunities to interact with the brand,” said Vince Klaseus, President of Universal Brand Development. “The expansion of our partnership reflects Universal’s objective to create lifestyle programs and engaging fan experiences that reach every age category, 365 days-a-year.”

In support of the theatrical launch of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Universal and the LEGO Group will globally launch 13 constructions sets that span across the various LEGO® play categories: LEGO Systems (ages 6+), LEGO Juniors (ages 4-7) and LEGO DUPLO (ages 2-4), plus a collectability offering with LEGO BrickHeadz, available this spring only at Walmart. The sets will hit shelves in April, with retailer exclusives at both Toys “R” Us and Walmart. Additionally, fans will find new soft line and publishing offerings available later this year.

First up is the LEGO Jurassic World Blue’s Helicopter Pursuit (75928). Priced at $39.99, this set will have Chris Pratt’s dinosaur-wrangling character Owen Brady try to reunite with his last surviving raptor Blue, by catching her first on his quad-ATV, with help from a helicopter piloted by Ken Wheatley (Ted Levine) and a DPG pilot.

Builders can unite Owen with his lead Velociraptor in this set designed for fans, ages seven and up. The set includes a quadbike, helicopter, featuring rotating blades and dual searchlights. The set also includes three minifigures: Owen Grady (Chris Pratt), Ken Wheatley (Ted Levine) and a pilot, plus Blue, the Velociraptor.

Next is the LEGO Juniors T-Rex Breakout (10756), which depicts probably the original Jurassic Park T-Rex busting through an electrified gate while Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) and panicked Dinosaur Protection Group staff try to evacuate their gate outpost in a van with some dinosaur eggs and a baby. It’s priced at $49.99

Children as young as four can play along and build a posable T. rex, opening gate and a truck with Quick Start chassis. This LEGO Juniors set includes easier building instructions and quick start elements as well as three minifigures and a baby dinosaur figure. Minifig characters include Claire (as played by Bryce Dallas Howard)

Finally, there’s the LEGO Duplo T-Rex Tower (10880). For $29.99 you’ll get another easy-build set that you and your children of four years and up can enjoy assembling together. The set includes a Jurassic World watchtower, a T-Rex figure with opening jaw and a more detailed Duplo minifigure of Owen.

This new LEGO DUPLO set is suitable for builders, ages two and older. This easy-to-build dinosaur features large building bricks and is great for creating endless role-play stories! Toddlers and their parents can build this set together, which features a T. rex with opening jaw, revolving lookout tower, car and an Owen LEGO® DUPLO® figure.

As Jurassic Outpost pointed out, it seems that LEGO is already giving us a hint not only about the other dinosaurs that we will find in this upcoming wave of LEGO Jurassic World sets, but also about the much-talked about the villainous hybrid creature in the film. Take a closer look at the box art for 75928.

scaled Indoraptor

The dinosaur that is featured on set 75930 bares a very close resemblance to the rumored Indoraptor that will be introduced in the film.  It looks like another one of those hybrid experiments that have gone awry. Other than the Indoraptor, the box art also suggests that we will be having a Carnotaurus (75929) and a Stygimoloch (75927) added into the theme.

And that’s the first batch of LEGO Jurassic World tie-in sets for the movie. More products will be revealed in February during the New York Toy Fair. The film arrives in cinemas on June 7.

LEGO Celebrates it BIG With This 10-Foot Tall LEGO Brick.

LEGO doesn’t mince words (or bricks, for this matter) when it makes a point of publicly declaring its passion for the LEGO brick. Now that we are celebrating the 60th anniversary of this toy icon, LEGO Master Builders made sure that they got their message of admiration and love for the brand across, in a way that people surely took notice.

10 foot brick

Designed and constructed in LEGO’s US Headquarters in Enfield, Connecticut, this giant classic piece is made up 133,000 LEGO pieces and took 350 hours to build. It stood proudly at New York City’s Flatiron District from January 26 to 28, with a simple question posed for onlookers: What Will You Build?

Here’s what LEGO has to say about the 60th anniversary of the iconic brick.

Sixty years ago, the simple idea of adding tubes inside a plastic building brick turned into one of the most exciting and influential toys in the world – the LEGO brick. Since then, LEGO play has been about the joy of building and giving every child the chance to shape their own world through inventive play.

The LEGO Group began producing a plastic brick in 1949, but it was not until nine years later, in 1958, that the LEGO brick we know today was born. It took several years of iterations to find the iconic design, which has not been changed significantly since. The unique design and the uncompromised focus on quality and safety during the past six decades ensures that two LEGO bricks produced 60 years apart can still fit together.

As an added treat in case you missed this brick-built monolith, LEGO Fan Tube shares a speed build video of how this anniversary monument was made.

Take a Trip Down LEGO’s Memory Lane With These Vintage Footages of How the LEGO Brick Began.

As you know well by now, the LEGO brick that we all grew up with and loved is celebrating its 60th birthday. Since the day when Godtfred Kirk Christiansen, the founder and inventor of the LEGO brick, filed the original patent on January 28, 1958, thousands of LEGO sets built on that single iconic brick meant countless and priceless smiles among kids and adults alike. Perhaps the coolest thing about the LEGO brick is that even though it has expanded and evolved in a myriad of shapes and sizes, it hasn’t changed in its fundamental design and building principle. Which means to say that the very first brick created in 1958, will still perfectly fit onto modern LEGO pieces that we have today.

To celebrate the occasion, the LEGO Group posted three vintage film recordings from the bygone era of LEGO’s humble beginnings: from the designing the first LEGO sets, and even the patient sorting and boxing of its plastic pieces and elements, this collection of videos gives us a glimpse of how things were done inside the LEGO factory back then.

Walmart To Offer LEGO 60th Anniversary Vintage Brick Sets.

2018 is the year to give thanks for six decades of LEGO; that’s in case you’ve forgotten. The LEGO Group, of course, is churning out one celebratory gesture after another. A 60-years Commemorative Set (40290)? Check. A special event at The Home of the Brick in Billund? Check, too.

But LEGO hasn’t even begun to bring out the sum total of their retro sets. Here’s a series of classic oldies that are going to be exclusive stock at Walmart. And when I say oldies I mean old, with the retro packaging and the most basic construction imaginable. Here are the first three announced.

4000028 1

First is the pretty basic and elementary House (4000028) set, all slim and perfect background material for any LEGO neighborhood setting, even if minifigures look quite large next to it.

4000029 1

Next is about a step up in complexity from the House (4000028) but still an iconic build: the Windmill (4000029).  It technically has two floors and bright red blades, easy to get an observer’s attention. Both this and set 4000028 will be exclusively available at Walmart for just $19.99 a box.

10715

There’s more though. As part of LEGO’s longtime retail partnership with Walmart, they’re offering this sweet promo. After buying the Bricks on a Roll (10715) retro pack shown above, a collector needs only to log on to the special anniversary website www.lego60th.com, upload a scan of their Walmart receipt for set 10715, and LEGO will send over a free collectible LEGO Booklet as well as building instructions for Bricks on a Roll in retro-style.

There’s no specification if online Walmart purchases count, or even if the promo has a deadline, but we’ll keep you updated, as always.

LEGO Fans Mad at “LEGO Batman Movie” Not Being a 2018 Oscar Nominee

The list of nominees for the 90th Academy Awards was announced to the world just this Tuesday, January 23. And in what has been becoming annoyingly routine for the prestigious film awards ceremony, the list of movies in the running for an Oscar leaves quite a few things to be desired.

Or so it would seem if you happen to be a fan of LEGO. The AMPAS is being targeted by builders who love all LEGO media this year, because it’s starting to echo like the nominee list back in 2014. Back then, the critically beloved The LEGO Movie got passed over for a Best Animated Feature nomination.

It’s 2018 and the Academy has messed again for LEGO fans. Last year saw no less than two LEGO films premiere for the community: The LEGO Batman Movie and The LEGO Ninjago Movie. Ask anybody, ANYBODY, and they’ll say LEGO Batman is the best movie ever, and critics agree too.

But no, according to AMPAS. For an animated movie to be listed as a Best Animated Feature Oscar nominee, it must be screened by a panel of Academy members in the animation corner, and usually it boils down to what the panel members personally like in common, and not what they know to be popular.

On that note, it’s inevitable that the nominations would go to the likes of Disney-Pixar’s Coco, Cartoon Saloon’s The Breadwinner and the artistically-visualized Loving Vincent from BrealThru Productions, but after seeing Fox-Blue Sky’s Ferdinand and DreamWorks’ The Boss Baby make the cut, the LEGO fan community have had enough.

At least The LEGO Movie had a nomination for Best Original Song back in the 87th Oscars; it still lost though. Now we can expect the furor for robbing LEGO Batman of a shot at glory all the way to Oscar night on March 4. Will the Academy learn how much they ruined things? Let’s wait and see.
