Rumor of Possible One-Retailer Exclusivity for LEGO Overwatch Sets in UK

It’s only a matter of time now before LEGO news breaks out all the nitty-gritty info to be had about LEGO Overwatch, a new licensed franchise line of tie-in sets and minifigures for the hit FPS videogame by Blizzard Entertainment. No less than two fan events in Europe and Asia will be covering that big reveal this week after all.

We can expect LEGO Overwatch sets, when they do come, to be available wherever LEGO is available in the world. However there’s one rumor – probably close to fact – that seems to limit available venues to buy these in the UK.

Several LEGO product lines in the past have been exclusively available only on specific retail chains in the UK (outside of LEGO Stores and shop.LEGO.com). For instance, the last releases of Nexo Knights are only on John Lewis while Unikitty! products are exclusive to Tesco. LEGO Overwatch apparently will be shared between UK LEGO Stores and one other retail chain of choice, and nowhere else.

LEGO Overwatch Minifigures

That does narrow down the places where Overwatch fans in the UK can check out the game’s LEGO tie-ins. Now, granted, this is only rumor thus far; but with the first official reveals coming so very soon we’ll have confirmation (or otherwise) about this matter.

The new LEGO Overwatch sets are expected to debut sometime in early 2019, as a herald of sorts for what may be an Overwatch 3D-animated series or movie on Netflix.

LEGO Star Wars Betrayal at Cloud City (75222) Revealed

LEGO has finally pulled off the veil from its next D2C or direct-to-consumer LEGO Star Wars set, and as it turns out the rumors that went around since early May of this year were all true. If you recall, the news (or should I say rumor back then) broke during the 2nd quarter of this year, when LEGO Star Wars fans got hold of intel that the next UCS-like Star Wars set for this year will be a call back to a previously released LEGO Star Wars set which is the Cloud City (10123) from 2003. The possibility of a re-release or rehash of this set was further reinforced when the September 2018 LEGO Store Calendar specifically mentioned that there will be two new VIP-exclusive D2C LEGO sets that will be released from September 13 to 30. This time around, the possibility of this set finally happening has now been set in stone, with LEGO finally revealing the LEGO Star Wars Betrayal at Cloud City (75222). Read on for LEGO’s official product description.

LEGO Star Wars Betrayal at Cloud City (75222) is available directly from LEGO Stores & shop.LEGO.com from 1 October, 2018, with VIP availability beginning September 13, 2018.

2019 LEGO Star Wars Sets Listed Via Amazon UK

Next year marks another milestone for the world’s largest and most valuable toy company, when LEGO will celebrate its 20th year since it introduced its very first licensed theme way back in 1999. According to rumors floating around the LEGO fan community, LEGO will be throwing in a bash in 2019 with the release of a special range of 20th anniversary, 2019 LEGO Star Wars sets commemorating two decades of partnership with then Lucas Films.

Brick Fanatics reports that other than the release of these LEGO Star Wars sets in January 2019, a special selection of sets are also slated to arrive in April that comes in a unique, 20th anniversary packaging featuring the nostalgic, original LEGO Star Wars logo. The best part for collectors is that each of this special set is said to contain an exclusive minifigure that features the original yellow-faced minifigure from the 1999 LEGO Star Wars sets. If this is indeed true, then we can somehow expect 2019 to be a good year to stack up on those LEGO Star Wars sets.

The very first LEGO Star Wars set, the Lightsaber Duel (7101), released in 1999.

Eventually, an interesting piece of intel was picked up this time by Rebel Scum which might give us a hint on what these sets will be. As of this writing, these sets are now currently listed at Amazon UK, though the said listing is quite bare bones as of the moment save for the set number and cryptic names included to some of them, there’s reason to believe that they belong under the 2019 LEGO Star Wars theme. Some of these have direct links over at Amazon’s UK site while some of them were also listed by Price Vortex. I’ve modified this listing to include information from the latter.

There’s another pair of LEGO Star Wars sets that does not quite fit the abovementioned list, and deserves a separate commentary. These sets may even suggest that we are probably looking at our first 2019 LEGO Star Wars UCS sets starting with the 10268 LEGO Star Wars Confidential. The notion that this might be a forthcoming UCS set stems from the idea that the series number 102xx were used for LEGO Star Wars UCS sets that were released between 2010 to 2013. These are: Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starfighter (10215), Imperial Shuttle (10212), Super Star Destroyer (10221), B-Wing Starfighter (10227), R2-D2 (10225), Red Five X-Wing Starfighter (10240) and the Ewok Village (10236).

10240 1
The LEGO Star Wars UCS Red Five X-Wing Starfighter (10240) from 2013.

The next set is outright puzzling: 21315 LEGO Star Wars Confidential. The set number does not seem to add up since starting from last year, set numbers 213xx has been set aside for LEGO Ideas sets beginning 2015. Unless this LEGO listing from Amazon UK is a sort of an error, then we really need to see where LEGO is charting the path for its new LEGO Star Wars sets come 2019.

So what do you think brick fans? What can you say about these upcoming 2019 LEGO Star Wars sets? What are you most excited about for next year? What LEGO Star Wars sets do you want to see? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

From the Rumor Mill: Possible Re-release of the LEGO Vestas Wind Turbine (4999) Anytime Soon

LEGO is clearly intentional in reaching its sustainability goals for the years to come, and they began their steady steps towards it with the introduction of their first plant-based LEGO Plants From Plants (40320) which is a gift-with-purchase set made available to LEGO fans during the first half of this month (from August 1 to 14). The LEGO Group has also made their intention clear in providing renewable energy when it unveiled its Guinness World Breaking Wind Turbine MOC made up of 146,000 LEGO bricks back in November last year. And now, it looks like they’re taking it a step further by re-launching a particular set from 2008 – the LEGO Vestas Wind Turbine (4999) – to commemorate the release of the LEGO Plants From Plants set.

LEGO Vestas Wind Turbine

This piece of rumor was caught by Brick Fanatics saying that LEGO intends to release the LEGO Vestas Wind Turbine (4999) anytime soon, including the botanical elements from its first plant-based set. Furthermore, the rumored re-release of the LEGO Vestas Wind Turbine is said to be included under the LEGO Creator Expert subtheme, and will also include certain power functions to animate the turbine. Here’s how set 4999 looks like equipped with power functions.

The first iteration of the LEGO Vestas Wind Turbine came in very limited quantities back in 2008, so if there is truth in this rumor, it will definitely be a much welcomed move from LEGO. To be more precise, we’re not really sure if this particular re-release will follow the likes of previously released sets such as the Taj Mahal (10256), where the latter is a complete rehash of the previous one from 2008. Alternatively, it may also come as a sort of redesigned set similar to the grand Millennium Falcon (75192). In any case, such a move from LEGO to further promote environmental sustainability is very much welcomed by the LEGO community. We’ll probably see in the next few days, so stay tuned.

LEGO Rumors: LEGO BrickHeadz Simpsons and Fantastic Beasts Arriving in 2019

With us now well into the latter half of the year 2018, the time will soon begin when LEGO starts teasing what they’ve got in store for 2019. But it’s not just the official announcements to watch out for; there are also the rumors that pop up now and then. If you recall, we shared a pretty neat fan made infographic/poster that shows all the released and upcoming LEGO BrickHeadz sets that we are aware of as of to date. This particular poster has  even reserved several spots for two dual-pack sets, one rumored to be a revival of a previous licensed LEGO set, and the other from a more recent franchise. If rumors are indeed true, then we might be seeing a LEGO BrickHeadz Simpsons and Fantastic Beasts anytime soon.

LEGO BrickHeadz Simpsons and Fantastic Beasts
Are we to see these LEGO BrickHeadz Simpsons and Fantastic Beasts sets in 2019?

These latest LEGO BrickHeadz rumors, which have been floating  around for quite some time, have hinted at a possible LEGO BrickHeadz Simpsons and Fantastic Beasts set, and both sets being a twofer at that. We get family patriarch Homer “D’oh!” Simpson and iconic franchise clown character Krusty for one set, numbered 41632. If this one’s true then the assumption that LEGO’s Simpsons license has expired (explaining the lack of new products) may not yet be true. Moving on, there’s also a 2-pack Wizarding World BrickHeadz for Fantastic Beasts, a late tie-in for The Crimes of Grindelwald this coming November. Reportedly, these BrickHeadz figures are Newt Scamander and Gellert Grindelwald, and they’ll be packaged under set 41631.

Like any other rumors, news of these LEGO BrickHeadz Simpsons and Fantastic Beasts sets should always be taken with a bit of salt. If there is one thing that these rumors have proven is the idea that LEGO BrickHeadz are here to stay, and LEGO still has plenty of plans for this chibi, collectible subtheme for 2019. As always, we’ll keep you posted on the recent developments on these sets, and be sure to subscribe to our blog for the latest LEGO BrickHeadz news.

From the Rumor Mill: LEGO Creator Expert Free Fall Tower (10267) Coming in 2019.

EDIT: This post has been updated to reflect the recent developments on this set, which is now widely believed to be the LEGO Creator Expert Winter Village Gingerbread House (10267). ~ September 9, 2019

It seems that fans of the LEGO Creator Expert Roller Coaster (10261) set will soon have another set that perfectly goes with it. As it turns out, there’s a new LEGO Creator Expert set on the way, and it’s going to be a complementary amusement park attraction that would go well with the mammoth-sized Roller Coaster. This was first spotted on a listing at the German online LEGO retailer Brick Merge. The Brick Merge listing identifies this possible new set as the LEGO Creator Expert Free Fall Tower (10267). Here’s a screenshot of the listing just in case the brick police comes knocking at Brick Merge’s footsteps.

Regular theme park visitors will probably remember this in some major venues, where they might be alternatively called drop towers. There’s nothing like the sensation of free-fall followed by heavy deceleration. A closer look at the LEGO Creator Expert Roller Coaster’s box art suggests that LEGO may have the Free Fall Tower (10267) set already in the works. Aside from the LEGO Creator Expert Ferris Wheel (10247) which can be seen from in background located at the right side of the box, a possible silhouette of the brick-built Free Fall Tower (10267) ride can be seen in the middle.

ferris wheel background 10261 alt1
The LEGO Creator Expert Ferris Wheel (10247) can be seen in the background of the Roller Coaster’s box art.
Free Fall Tower (10267)
Could this be the LEGO Creator Expert Free Fall Tower (10267)? We’ll soon find out.

Whether this product listing is legitimate or not, it’s still something to mull over for the future, considering its possible release date of 2019. It’s understandable either way, what with a new LEGO Creator Winter Village set already on the way, plus a LEGO Star Wars Cloud City set too.

From the Rumor Mill: LEGO iCreate Jewelry/Accessory Line to Launch in 2019

Leave it to LEGO to find a way to expand your total brand experience with them far beyond what you might expect from toys. They’ve already made significant forays into the decorative market with their line of accessory items like minifigure keychains. But now they’re kicking things up a notch with a talked about comeback of the short-lived LEGO Clikits from 2004, now rehashed and rumored to be LEGO iCreate. Apparently LEGO is cooking up this new product line based on jewelry, of all things, that might appeal to girls who might already be into sets like that of LEGO Friends. As mentioned, this would be the second attempt by LEGO to introduce a jewelry/accessory line for the said demographic following the likes of LEGO Clikits.

LEGO iCreate
The LEGO Clikits Fun Friends Hair Bands (4876), one of the many accessory lines from 2004 that is rumored to have inspired a new line of similar sets to be called as LEGO iCreate.

According to some reports shared within the LEGO community, the LEGO iCreate line has for its primary products, accessory bands that can be customized with LEGO pieces. No minifigures or similar items were reported part of iCreate.

Other potential LEGO iCreate sets include jewelry boxes that need to be assembled, and can be customized by mixing and matching components from different sets. That particular element of “personalization” is said to be one of LEGO’s key selling points for the iCreate product range.

LEGO iCreate is reported to debut sometime in 2019. For the moment however, this information on a new product line is merely a rumor. We’ll have to wait until The LEGO Group itself makes an official statement later on.

LEGO Store September Calendar Teases On Two LEGO Exclusive Sets for VIP Members

Last week at the beginning of August, we had our good look at what comes next with LEGO at their Store Calendar for September 2018. Aside from the debut of so many new sets from best-selling lines such as LEGO Friends and LEGO Harry Potter, they also teased something special for VIP Members from the 13th to the month’s end. What that means is that two LEGO exclusive sets are being offered Early Access to those who availed of the LEGO VIP program. One of those two mystery sets has been hinted to be the long, long-rumored LEGO Star Wars UCS Cloud City set, but what about the other one?

LEGO Exclusive sets

It’s only rumor at the moment, but there’s a possibility that the second September LEGO exclusive might be the 2018 version of the annual-release LEGO Creator Expert Winter Village set. One only needs to look back at the Winter Village Station (10259) released last year to know how great a new set might look.

And that early access release is appropriate for next month, especially in recent years when countries who do celebrate Christmas and the winter Holidays tend to start promoting these related events as early as September.

Anyway, we’ll have plenty of time to further speculate as we go through August. The VIP Early Access LEGO exclusive sets will start becoming available from September 13 to the 30th.

LEGO Harry Potter – Harry’s Journey to Hogwarts (30407) Polybag Spotted In Target Stores

Late last month, we got confirmation that there’s a LEGO Harry Potter polybag that’s coming out under the new Wizarding World line rebranding. Said little set is a nostalgic recollection of The Boy Who Lived on his first train trip to Hogwarts (barring the anachronistic uniform the Harry minifigure’s wearing). Back then there was no exact date given as to when the LEGO Harry Potter – Harry’s Journey to Hogwarts (30407) was going to become available following its reveal. Later information had it that the little set would come out in August, but they may already be on shelves somewhere.

There are now reports that somehow, several polybags of LEGO Harry Potter – Harry’s Journey to Hogwarts (30407) have been found at Target stores. This hasn’t been verified since set 30407 shares a similar DPCI number with several other LEGO polybags, thus frustrating anything but a dedicated search of Target’s inventories.

LEGO Harry Potter – Harry’s Journey to Hogwarts (30407), as we might recall, contains one Harry Potter minifigure with wand, bricks and elements to build one handcart carrying luggage and cauldron, a spell-book, and a cage for Harry’s snowy owl Hedwig. To those who’re interested in sweeping their nearby Target stores for this polybag, we suggest looking at the checkout lanes.

Thanks to The Brick Fan for the tip.

LEGO Ninjago Panel to be Featured Once More at SDCC 2018: No Mention of Any New Season for the TV Show

LEGO Ninjago has always made its presence known at San Diego Comic Cons and this year is no less different. Almost like an annual tradition, the LEGO Ninjago panel is expected to be a part of SDCC 2018’s programming in which LEGO fans can likewise enjoy.

Slated on the last day of the comic book convention on July 22, the LEGO Ninjago panel will include the show’s co-creator and veteran producer Tommy Andreasen, LEGO Senior Design Manager Michael Svane Knap, Lead Writer Bragi Schut, and voice talents Brent Miller (the person behind the Zane’s voice), Kelly Metzger (voice of Nya), and Vincent Tong (voice of Kai). The panel will be moderated/hosted by Brian Bowler from the LEGO Group.

Traditionally, the LEGO Ninjago panel shares and discuss the details of where the franchise is heading for the following year. However, the panel’s official description is not really clear about this, and instead states that they will “talk about their favorite memories and other reflections on creating LEGO’s longest running and most successful show.” Is this a sign of things to come? Are we about to see the end of yet another LEGO TV show? Though these are just speculations, it is kind of hard not to consider this possibility since there has been no indication or rumor of any future LEGO Ninjago sets except for an anonymous source that claims across some LEGO fan forums that LEGO is planning to have a re-release of some sort of its previous LEGO Ninjago sets.

lego ninjago panel
The Fire Temple (2507) from 2011.
lego ninjago panel
The Earth Dragon Defense (2509) from 2011.

If I will correlate that with what we can expect from LEGO Ninjago panel in this year’s SDCC, could it really be possible that in keeping up with their “favorite memories” of the long-standing TV show, they will also make mention of the LEGO Ninjago sets that are most memorable to them and hence, an announcement of a “re-release” of these sets? Is not really far-fetched if you consider the circumstances. But bear in mind that these are just speculations, and whatever is the case we just have to wait until July 22 to see what LEGO has in store. The San Diego Comic Con 2018 will be from July 19 to 22 and is attended by thousands of pop culture fans, and home for exclusive merchandise such as LEGO sets and minifigures that you can never find anywhere else.
