Rumor Time: Are We to See LEGO Minecraft Buildable Figures in 2019?

There are probably not a lot of franchises licensed by LEGO to make products of, that does well with a “building and construction” theme all on its own. One of those rare properties is the iconic sandbox game Minecraft by Mojang and Microsoft Studios, which does feature lots of building.

Aside from the conventional play sets, LEGO has also fiddled with buildable Minecraft figures in its BrickHeadz line, particularly the latest Steve and Creeper (41612) dual pack. But apparently LEGO is planning more. That’s what this latest rumor courtesy of Brick Fanatics says: a lineup of new LEGO Minecraft buildable figures is set to arrive in 2019.

No specific details have been revealed of course, but speculation has it that this new range of LEGO Minecraft buildable figures will boast a hybrid building system taking elements from “Constraction” sets and System pieces. The resulting figures are said to stand about six feet inches tall.

The LEGO Minecraft line started in 2012, growing out of a fiercely supported submission on LEGO Ideas: Minecraft Micro World (21102) based on an idea by Mojang themselves. The line has grown since then, thanks naturally to the perfect sync of sorts between the two brands’ building and construction themes.

As always, we would like to remind our readers that any news featured on The Brick Show that is flat-out indicated as a rumor, will stay that way until The LEGO Group makes an official announcement about it. For now, if you’re a Minecraft aficionado and haven’t picked up the LEGO BrickHeadz Steve and Creeper (41612) yet, be sure to check it out at shop.LEGO.com.

LEGO BrickHeadz Thanksgiving Turkey (40273) and Mr. and Mrs. Claus (40274) Officially Announced

Earlier this month, LEGO has revealed its first seasonal BrickHeadz set just in time for Halloween. Now that details of the LEGO BrickHeadz Witch (40272) are out, it is just a matter of time before the next seasonal themed BrickHeadz set will make its debut. Thankfully, it didn’t take long for LEGO to do that, and as a welcome surprise, they didn’t just reveal one, but two new BrickHeadz sets that we can expect until the Christmas holiday season. Earlier today, LEGO servers have been updated to include a listing both for the LEGO BrickHeadz Thanksgiving Turkey (40273) and Mr. and Mrs. Claus (40274).

Both sets are now listed at shop.LEGO.com, and will be available beginning October 1, 2018. The Thanksgiving Turkey (40273) follows a similar design from its predecessors – the set contains 114 pieces and features a turkey flanked with several accessories such as white fence pieces, carrots, a pumpkin and some vegetation.

40273 1

The Mr. and Mrs. Claus (40274) set is the first LEGO BrickHeadz seasonal set that comes as a dual-pack that comes in at 341 pieces. I personally like this build, specially considering how the designers were able to add the similar BrickHeadz accessories on each of the character even as it is bundled as a dual-pack. That cozy, Christmas vibe is perfectly captured in this all so familiar BrickHeadz format.

LEGO Friends Heart Box Sub-Theme Rumored to be Released Next Year

One might think it really difficult for LEGO, a brand that is all about building things, to conceptualize sets geared towards girls, particularly of the doll-playing age. But they have done just that with their current LEGO Friends product line, so popular that it gets its own LEGOLAND themed area. When a brand’s particular subtheme is big with customers and name recognition, it makes sense to develop it further. And that’s apparently what LEGO’s planning to do, according to rumor, with Friends. They’re taking a one-off set of sorts like the LEGO Valentine’s Day Heart Box (40051) set from 2013, and making a LEGO Friends Heart Box versions of it.

This rumor, first caught by fellow LEGO news source Brick Fanatics, posits that the LEGO Friends Heart Box sub-theme will have five sets of buildable trinket boxes, including mini-dolls to keep in them. These LEGO Friends Heart Boxes will be styled after the five prominent characters from the product line, the coolest group of girl-friends living in Heartlake City: Mia, Andrea, Stephanie, Olivia and Emma.

That’s not all; there’s said to be an additional Heart Box set in this initial release, serving as the debut of a new Friends character. These Heart Boxes will be mixed in with other conventional LEGO Friends sets that will be arriving in January 2019.

As always, any bit of news we introduce as a rumor will remain so until confirmed or debunked by LEGO itself. We’re still waiting on further news about another girl-centric new LEGO theme, the iCreate jewelry/accessory line rumored since August.

LEGO Toy Story 4 Sets Rumored to be Released in 2019

When Disney released Toy Story 3 back in 2010, it seemed like the fitting end of a film series in line with its themes: a teenager who once owned his beloved toys has grown past his need of them, but gets to entrust his treasures to another owner who will look after them in the future. Then again, it’s Disney; they’d prefer that none of their franchises remain stagnant too long. So we have word that LEGO Toy Story 4 sets are coming in next year, slated to arrive ahead of the Disney sequel’s planned release.

It should be recalled that LEGO did much the same before the 2010 premiere of Toy Story 3, when it unloaded 15 sets and polybags based on places and events that took place over the entire film trilogy. Chances are, they’ll do the same for the upcoming 4th film, with a new collection of LEGO Toy Story 4 sets. The latest LEGO tie-ins for a Disney-Pixar animated film were the LEGO Juniors Incredibles 2 sets, which were released this June.

LEGO Toy Story 4
LEGO Toy Story Trash Compactor Escape (7596) from 2010.

That said, this bit of news that came by way of Brick Fanatics remains, at this point, a rumor until The LEGO Group releases official information to confirm or debunk it. Toy Story 4 will premiere June 19, 2019 and will focus on a love story between Sheriff Woody and Bo Peep, who was conspicuously absent in Toy Story 3.

From the Rumor Mill: Will a LEGO Legend of Zelda Video Game Really Happen?

This piece of news (aka rumor) has been floating around social media sites since yesterday, that even LEGO-oriented blog sites started picking them up. Yes, you read it right: there have been talks around LEGO community sites that LEGO might have entered into a partnership with Nintendo to come up with a LEGO Legend of Zelda video game. It spread like wide fire that even Kevin Hinkle, former community manager for LEGO in the Americas, has joined in and gave his two cents on the matter over on Twitter.

Here is the Instagram post that allegedly claims to be the source of the rumor. An anonymous source claims that he or she managed to hack the Nintendo Switch eShop and was able to extract the following information from the site. According to his account, these are upcoming games that LEGO intends to announce later on through a Nintendo Direct Episode. However, due to the recent earthquake that hit Hokkaido, Japan, the scheduled stream of this Nintendo Direct episode was put on hold. As you can see from the list, a certain LEGO Legend of Zelda is mentioned.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bnez_tzgoC0/

Now it can be argued that LEGO is no stranger to collaborations with other video game companies and titles such as Minecraft and the more recent and still to be revealed, LEGO Overwatch theme. However, it is quite strange for LEGO to take a highly popular video game and render it in to another LEGO video game format. This doesn’t make sense because there is the possibility that this will compete against one of Nintendo’s video game titles, unless this speculated LEGO Legend of Zelda video game will have a new story line or will be a sequel (or prequel) of some sorts.

https://www.instagram.com/p/_dbF9wicQs/

Furthermore, the rest of the titles mentioned in this ‘leak’ seem to be dubious. I really don’t go with the idea that Nintendo will be comfortable naming one of its upcoming games such as WarioWare: Fart Mania, or Metroid Equestrian Races. The former will not go well with Nintendo’s sense of video game decency, while the latter seems to go against the very idea and character of the Metroid video game.

Here’s the original image in case it gets deleted.

Then there are licensing issues if ever Nintendo enters into a formal partnership with LEGO for future LEGO sets. Nintendo and LEGO must find a way to hurdle any proprietary issues that Nintendo entered and agreed upon with other companies in the past. For what it is, we have to take this piece of news with a handful of salt and to be cautious not to immediately jump in the bandwagon. These are all speculations and rumors that will be hopefully addressed once the latest episode of Nintendo Direct airs soon.

LEGO Bricktober 2018 Minifigures Rumored To Be Released in US LEGO Stores

After confirming that the LEGO Harry Potter Bricktober 2018 minifigures will be made available in the US via Barnes & Noble, it seems that LEGO is now teasing on where we can expect the rest of this highly collectible minifigures. We know that these annual releases are usually available in Toys R Us before the toy retail giant closed all its stores in the US, UK, and Australia last June. Many LEGO fans were anxious then on whether the LEGO Bricktober minifigure promotions will still run in spite of TRU’s demise. But thankfully, LEGO still has something in store and the release of the official LEGO Bricktober 2018 images a few weeks ago has confirmed that we will still have our usual LEGO Bricktober minifigs soon.

LEGO Bricktober 2018

TRU Minifigure Pack 7798023 1

TRU Minifigure Pack 7798031 1

A LEGO customer service email shared via social media seems to suggest that we will not need to look far and wide to find our share of these minifigs. According to an Instagram post that is now making its rounds across the LEGO community, LEGO’s costumer service has confirmed that the LEGO Bricktober 2018 minifigures will available in US LEGO stores this November and December.  To quote,

“The Bricktober promotions will be available through the LEGO stores throughout November and December. This is the only information we have to share at this time. Please keep an eye out for more information.”

Well, I guess we should better start calling this Brickvember and Brickcember for that matter.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BnU3m21gAAu/

We should bear in mind that even if LEGO’s customer service email seems to have confirmed the availability of the LEGO Bricktober 2018 minifigures in local LEGO stores, it will still be wise to consider this as a rumor. In the past, LEGO’s customer service and their social media managers were a bit off the mark when it comes to accurately telling when and how new LEGO sets will be released.

We’re also not sure as of the moment if this will be a future store promotional of some kind. And since the LEGO Store October Calendar has already been released, and there was no mention of any Bricktober promos, then we have to probably wait for the November Store Calendar to be released next month. The LEGO Shop@Home portal is also mum about these LEGO Bricktober 2018 minifigs as of this writing. My best guess is that it may be a part of a Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal in November. Whatever the case, we will soon find out.

From the Rumor Mill: Possible List of Canceled LEGO Dimensions Year 3 Titles

It has been almost a year since the canceled LEGO Dimensions theme was upon us. This sad end for a beloved theme was officially announced by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

Many forces were at play during this time which left the once booming toys-to-life genre eventually helpless against the tide of low consumer demand. The final wave of LEGO Dimensions sets, dubbed as Year 2 or Wave 9 titles, consists mainly of characters coming from Teen Titans GO!, the Powerpuff Girls, and the 80s comedy-horror icon, Beetlejuice. With the unfortunate cancellation and end of development for LEGO Dimensions, it now seems that any future sets that were rumored to be part of a Year 3 series are now eventually canned.

Is the Canceled LEGO Dimensions Theme Bound to Happen?

LEGO Dimensions Is Canceled

It was common knowledge among game developers and those who were closely working on developing future LEGO Dimensions packs, that the LEGO Group had already planned things, with projects that were actually in the middle of development before the unpopular decision from the LEGO Group came out.

Without the intention of showing disrespect to game developers or insensitivity towards the LEGO Dimensions community in general, toys-to-life authority, Bricks to Life, came up with a report that summarizes every intel that it gathered on what this canceled LEGO Dimensions Year 3 titles could have been. It is noteworthy to mention that the LEGO Group is not to be entirely blamed for the demise of this beloved theme. In general, it seems that the trend for the toys-to-life genre has now become a fad, suffering from a very steep downward spiral of interest from video gamers and collectors.

Again, we don’t intend to show any disrespect whatsoever, but as Bricks to Life puts it, “…this is now nothing more than preserving history”. This rumor is speculative at its best, but as the report goes, is a result of a thorough collection of lists of franchises and properties coming from a whole assortment of sources: “bits of leftover code, secured LEGO licensing rights, plus bread crumb clues from people who worked on the game.”

True that LEGO is suspiciously quiet on this one, but with a bit of brick detective work, Bricks to Life managed to gather as much info on what could be a highly likely wave of what-could-have-been collection of canceled LEGO Dimensions sets.

016141
The canceled LEGO Dimension theme has plenty of potential. And it is even more disheartening to consider that we will never get to see a ton of new characters that is suppose to receive the same treatment.

We will roughly categorize this into four types, based on the target audience that these rumored sets could have intended. Remember: please take this list of supposedly canceled LEGO Dimensions Year 3 titles as plainly as it is, a rumor. Unless the LEGO Group confirms this, then please take this with a grain of salt.

Build Your Own Mini LEGO Star Wars Imperial AT-Hauler (30498)

This piece of news has been floating around for quite some time already, and in case you missed this, or more specifically the retailer exclusive LEGO Star Wars Imperial AT-Hauler (30498) polybag, then you still have this chance of building one of your own. This particular polybag comes as the second polybag offering belonging under the LEGO Star Wars Solo subtheme following the likes of the similarly packaged Imperial TIE Fighter (30381). However this mini version of the Imperial AT-Hauler seems to be a Walmart exclusive in the US and is now currently out of stock via Walmart’s website.

30498 3

The LEGO Star Wars Imperial AT-Hauler (30498) comes in at 49 pieces and is relatively easy to build, thanks to the polybag’s building instruction now uploaded at the LEGO customer service portal. This mini version of the Imperial AT-Hauler comes with the usual LEGO pieces that you may already have at home save perhaps for the reddish brown Technic rotor 2 blades and the 1×2 plates with horizontal snap. Check out the building instructions below, and see if you have all the parts needed to build your own mini Imperial AT-Hauler.

Though the LEGO Star Wars Imperial AT-Hauler (30498) polybag is now out of stock and nowhere to be found at other major online retailer portals, there has been some rumor circulating that this polybag might turn out to be the next LEGO Star Wars promotional in relation to the slated release of the LEGO Star Wars Betrayal at Cloud City (75222) on September 13. This is speculative as of the moment but it will be nice if LEGO can offer this directly to consumers both in-store and online. Being a fan of these LEGO polybags, I’m really looking forward to seeing this in my local LEGO store and to add this to my polybag collection. For now, let me see if I can build this thing.

From the Rumor Mill: More Than 100 LEGO Sets To Watch Out For In 2019

Last week, we mentioned some of the 2019 LEGO Star Wars sets to watch out for, specially that this particular LEGO theme from a galaxy far, far away is about to celebrate its 20th anniversary next year.  However, things are looking good in 2019 not just for LEGO Star Wars, but also for the rest of the toy company’s themed play sets. Here’s a compilation of what we know so far about these rumored 2019 LEGO sets, indicating their speculated set names, set numbers and even their expected price tag if available.

Most of these rumored sets are said to be available sometime between January to February next year, and are generally considered to be a part of LEGO’s winter releases. Some of these 2019 LEGO sets also have images that are now circulating over social media, so these somehow confirms their availability later on. Do bear in mind, however, that even if these are based from reliable sources within the LEGO fan community, they are still basically rumors and we have to wait until November or December to get confirmation from LEGO if indeed these sets are happening.

Is LEGO Giving a Hint About an Upcoming Harry Potter Diagon Alley Set?

By now we would have seen and heard all that needs to be known about the ambitious LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle (71043) micro-scale set. A great deal of what we have learned was courtesy of the requisite designer video for it, with the heads of the LEGO design team. However, starting from around this week a new wave of questions and speculation has arisen regarding the Hogwarts Castle (71043). It’s not about the set itself but rather, something spotted in the designer video background. The prevailing theory is that the object, which was blurred, might be another Potter set.

From a quick read of the comments for the LEGO designer video on YouTube, it seems that inquisitive viewers are seeing the same thing: at the 4:30 mark, behind the LEGO System set box are what appear to be brick-built buildings. One is shaded blue-purple and orange, familiar colors to Potter-fans.

legohptease

The rumor that sprung from this view of the Hogwarts Castle (71043) is that LEGO’s working on possibly a building set for the Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes shop in Diagon Alley. You can see the similarly colored building above. Does it match the blurry figure in the clip? You tell us.

7e42dce9699701bc1574c65d1280a8ff21259edc hq

Some of the ongoing rumors mention that LEGO has pulled this method of advance teasing before. Is it really a tease in this case? Remember that this is a rumor for now, at least until LEGO comes clean about it. But wouldn’t such a set be magical in the future?
