Rumor: Reissues of First Two Set Seasons of LEGO Ninjago Coming

LEGO Ninjago is gearing up to have the ninth season of its animated series start airing this year (the earliest known premiere date being June 30 on Australian TV). It’s therefore surprising when rumors started popping up about the next upcoming Ninjago sets: there’s nothing “new”, they will be rereleases.

This loud speculation sprang out from a post on the discussion forums of Eurobricks just this Wednesday, July 4. The poster, Eurobricks Vassal Bentonton, noted that an anonymous LEGO dealer told him that the company was planning a reissue of all LEGO Ninjago sets included in seasons 1 and 2.

Specific details provided by this unnamed source have some of the sets and minifigures alleged to be coming back: early Ninjago baddies the Serpentine, the Ninjago dragons and Fire Temple. All this information is nebulous at best, though Bentonton says his LEGO dealer informant has actually ordered said sets already.

With regards to what might change from the original LEGO Ninjago S1-2 set releases to these rumored reissues, the likely path will be that there are going to be cosmetic changes to the brick structure, akin perhaps to the alteration of the exclusive Billund Airport set from original to rerelease.

And what will happen to the Ninjago animated series? There’s also been talk that season 9 could be the conclusion to the whole story. The possibly modernized reissues could either signify that the show’s good to go on for longer, or a last hurrah for a big finale. We really don’t know at the moment.

LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle (71043) Rumored As a Micro-scale AND Made of 6,000 Pieces

We capped off our previous week’s lineup of LEGO news with plenty of updates on sets for LEGO’s Wizarding World. We got plenty of info on the upcoming sets themed after either Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts so we’re well appraised on those products when they come out in July. But there’s still more sets under that product line that we’re still fishing for information. One of them is the LEGO Hogwarts Castle set (71043), of which we’ve been receiving only small-steps news, such as the fact that it’s going to be micro-scale with nanofigures included. We’ll, here’s another related update/rumor.

An anonymous source has sent word to our fellow LEGO news source, The Brick Fan with more information on the micro-scale Hogwarts Castle (71043). That is, we’ve now got an estimate on the number of bricks and elements that will form this set. If the source is on the money, we’re looking at an average of 6,000 LEGO bricks.

For comparison, we return once again to the LEGO micro-scale set we made references of with our previous update on the LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle (71043). That was the long-discontinued LEGO Marvel Super Heroes SHIELD Helicarrier (76042). It looked pretty massive at first glance, but is still made up of “only” almost 3,000 pieces.

That just hammers home how massive the micro-scale Hogwarts Castle (71043) will be, and how potentially unfeasible it would have been if the scale were mini instead. Now, the 6,000-piece count is only a rumor until we get official confirmation from LEGO, so we wait.

Possible LEGO DC Set of “Elseworlds: Kingdom Come” on SDCC 2018 Posted by Writer-Artist Alex Ross

LEGO-related news of the 2018 San Diego Comic Con keeps pouring in these days. We just covered some exclusive LEGO Star Wars stuff in the Millennium Falcon Cockpit (75512), and now we have news of a possible addition to the various LEGO releases for the event, based on DC Comics.

To be precise, this possible LEGO DC Super Heroes set release is based on a one-off storyline from DC’s Elseworlds alternate-universe imprint: Kingdom Come, one of the most well-known deconstructive narratives of the comic-book superhero, next perhaps to Watchmen. The storyline features famous super-faces like you’ve never seen them before.

Word about this LEGO DC Kingdom Come set for SDCC was announced by Alex Ross, co-writer (along with Mark Waid) and sole artist of this particular Elseworlds series. Ross posted a photo of the set on his Facebook page, describing it as “New- Kingdom come- LEGO set #sdcc”. Nothing follows.

Judging from the one image we got, this Kingdom Come set is primarily LEGO minifigures with a brick-built background set and no further props. The characters we get are (left to right): “Golden Age” Green Lantern (Alan Scott), The Spectre, Wonder Woman, Superman, Pastor Norman McCay (the story’s viewpoint character), Batman, and Flash (Wallace West).

But what exactly are we looking at here? A surprise official LEGO DC set? Maybe it’s a customization overseen by Alex Ross to only be exhibited at SDCC’s LEGO booth? We really need more info on this beyond that photo, so we’ll be keeping a lookout for any further announcements.

From August to July: LEGO Harry Potter Sets Might Release in US Earlier than Expected

The reporting of LEGO-related news is often a dynamic process, since stories considering products and events tied to the brand have a tendency to change with noticeable frequency. Only yesterday, we briefly mentioned an upcoming LEGO Harry Potter set with a minifigure included in a Potter activity book. Something’s changed.

Initially said set, the Hogwarts Great Hall (75954) is but one of several LEGO Harry Potter goodies that have been slated for release this coming August, two months from now. Come this week, that information is now old news stateside, as certain elements are indicating that the date’s moved up.

One might consider it rather ironic that European LEGO news site Eurobricks might get the first whiff of news that the LEGO Harry Potter sets will now become available in July. They already have some of the sets in question available over there by now.

Before this can be downgraded to mere rumor however, Wal-Mart briefly listed Hogwarts Great Hall (75954) and its fellows for July 1 before they were taken down. We’re getting the sinking feeling that they might be doing that deliberately now.

Aside from the Hogwarts Great Hall (75954), the other big LEGO Harry Potter set coming out is the Hogwarts Express (75955), a train set fully compatible with existing LEGO train tracks (explaining why it has none of its own) as well as internal space to install optional Power Functions capabilities as needed. LEGO Potter-fans might not need to wait much longer with this latest development.

LEGO Ideas Voltron (21311?) Supposedly to Release in South Korea this August

From days of long ago, from uncharted regions of the Universe, comes a legendThe Legend of Voltron, Defender of the Universe! A mighty robot, loved by good, feared by evil…and very late in coming, or at least its LEGO Ideas set is. It’s been over a year now since it passed review, but there’s still no sign of it anywhere.

The latest word we’ve had of anything concerning the LEGO Ideas Voltron set was the reported updating of LEGO Store inventories in the EU, information that included its alleged set number (21311) and price tag (€179.99/$199.99). Nothing else followed since.

At least, until this new update of sorts came from, of all places, the South Korean news website “!T Chosun”. Their article said that an official for LEGO Korea leaked that the LEGO Ideas Voltron will be released in their country August 1, the first date ever given for it.

But if this report is factual, they why did it take so long for the set to come out after passing review? The LEGO official had an answer for that too. Apparently LEGO then needed to get a license from Voltron franchise owner World Events Productions, to begin their manufacture.

It all sounds rather reasonable at first glance, but having the news broken in a general news site in South Korea rather than a more LEGO-specialized source still raises some questions on its veracity. Right now we’re really antsy waiting for the big reveal, which will happen, perhaps, during the San Diego Comic Con next month.

LEGO Brand Store (40305) Sighting on Billund Store Shelf Possibly Indicates It’s for Sale, Not Promotional

Early this May we got wind of a new LEGO set depicting a new spin on their past retail store models like the LEGO Brand Retail Store (40145). This new LEGO Brand Store (40305) is a step up from past LEGO Store building sets in that it’s a two-story structure.

Our original report on the LEGO Brand Store (40305) was that it’s going to be a little promotional item like its older brothers. However, new information implies that this might no longer be accurate. Rather than a giveaway under certain conditions, it’s going to be available on store shelves instead.

This comes to us from German LEGO news site Zusammengebaut.com, which reports that the LEGO Brand Store (40305) has been spotted on display shelves at the LEGO Store in LEGOLAND Billund, the hometown of LEGO itself. It’s priced at 229.95 Danish kroner, so it’ll be $36.15 if it comes stateside.

As seen in the photo above, the set box actually looks rather beefy in size compared to the height of the shelf (stacked vertically, even) so it sort of makes it less likely that the LEGO Brand Store (40305) is a promotional, meaning there’s probably more of it churned out.

But we’re approaching speculation at this point. Thus far we’ve concluded that the first sighting of the LEGO Brand Store (40305) is as a sales item in LEGOLAND Billund’s LEGO Store. Now we’ll have to watch for more info on how the set will be presented anyplace else in future.

More Rumors on LEGO Star Wars “Cloud City” Set (75222?) Surfaced

It began in January, with the anticlimactic results of the LEGO Ideas Second 2017 Review, that is, the one where none of the entries passed. One of those failed submissions was a set recreation of one of the most iconic scene from Empire Strikes Back where Darth Vader declares “I am your father.”

Though the review panel didn’t elaborate further on the decision, a prevailing speculation was that said Ideas entry wasn’t approved because LEGO itself was already developing a new set based on the Cloud City, where the abovementioned scene happened. We haven’t heard much about this rumor since, until shortly before May 4.

In the last days of April, discussion on LEGO forum Eurobricks turned towards the still-rumored LEGO Star Wars Cloud City set following the leak of a new Boba Fett minifigure. This was expounded on by Eurobricks member Paperballpark, who has delivered good info on confidential LEGO projects in the past.

As Paperballpark theorizes, the new Cloud City is similar to the already-released Wars LEGO Star Wars Death Star (75159), a multilevel structure with exposed rooms for equipment-minifigure interaction (Luke-Vader duel scene possibly included). Rather than the spheroid Death Star, Cloud City will have only an upper hemisphere with support struts below.

LEGO has years ago released a more compact LEGO Star Wars Cloud City (10123) set with only a portion of the interior and not shaped like the whole thing. The rumored new version might have room for two LEGO vehicles, a la the Death Star’s (75159) TIE fighter.

10123 1

May the 4th, aka Star Wars Day, saw only the release of the LEGO UCS Y-Wing Starfighter (75181), with no official peep on whether the much-speculated Cloud City is real or not. Paperballpark on Eurobricks is fairly confident it’ll come in the fall, and even provided its number (75222). Still, it remains rumor for now.

JK Rowling Teases Another LEGO Wizarding World Fantastic Beast Set

Last month, fans of the Harry Potter-verse – now officially known as the “Wizarding World” – were in a flurry of excitement following the release of the first trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Their LEGO community subset was also piqued with news of tie-in sets like Grindelwald’s Escape (75951).

There was one other set number given in this first reveal, 75952, which was tentatively named “Newt’s Suitcase”. Beyond that, we got no description or image, though those who watched the first movie might have ideas. Anyway, there might be an advance spoiler for this set courtesy of JK Rowling herself.

The celebrated author of the Harry Potter book series that make up the core of the Wizarding World, as well as the screenwriter for the Fantastic Beasts films, posted a telling photo on her Twitter page Monday, April 23. It showed her hand, with a curious plastic magical animal figure.

Fantastic Beasts audiences might recognize that as the Niffler in Newt Scamander’s suitcase from his first film. Rowling noted that she took the photo in the middle of a meeting with Warner Bros., but whether WB had it for her consideration, or LEGO sent it earlier, nobody is quite sure.

If Warner Bros. and LEGO are waiting for another major geek event to finally blow open the Crimes of Grindelwald film and its other LEGO tie-ins, then it’d have to be the San Diego Comic-Con a few months from now. But for now, we have Rowling’s tease to mull over.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald sees the return of Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, and Johnny Depp from And Where to Find Them. They are joined by Jude Law, Zoe Kravitz and Callum Turner. The film premieres November 16 in both UK and US.

I Hope This Is Not An April Fool’s Day Joke: LEGO Star Wars BB-8 (40288) Polybag Promotional Arriving In May

We know that there is a new LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader Pod polybag coming out this April, and it looks like there is another similar polybag all set to go in May. Now to be honest, I’m a little hesitant about posting this piece of news, especially that playful fiction has a tendency to become fact in this day of the year. Nevertheless, there seems to be some grain of truth in what the good guys from Promo Bricks have to say. According to one of their most recent reports – actually it was posted yesterday which gives credence to the idea that this is not probably a part of an elaborate pre-April Fools Day conspiracy – LEGO Star Wars fans can expect BB-8 to make a comeback in a TRU-style microbuild polybag.

If you recall from last October, Toys R Us back then offered a build and take home LEGO BB-8 microbuild to conclude their annual Bricktober celebrations last year (I will certainly miss their Bricktober minifigures for that matter). As I mentioned in that post, I sincerely feel that LEGO and TRU could have improved on this particular LEGO BB-8 microbuild, which quite frankly, looks like an underarm roll-on. Nevertheless, the build itself is pretty solid in terms of design but the lack of aesthetics (i.e. some unique printed parts) is a bit of a let-down and is an injustice against one of the most adorable SW droids around.

lego trumaketake bb8 500

Nevertheless, this news from Promo Bricks, if proven to be true is expected to be of similar build but will have a marked difference. The LEGO Star Wars BB-8 (40288) polybag will have printed parts particularly for the side of its head. Now it is not really uncommon to see BB-8 in brick-build form since we already have the UCS-like LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi BB-8 (75187) set. The challenge therefore is to recreate this set in such a small scale without compromising BB-8’s outstanding features, and the best way to do that is to offer some printed parts.

Admittedly, Promo Bricks does not have the polybag image to share as of the moment, but they promise to give us an update as soon as it is available. Will keep our radars open for this one and will keep you posted as well.
