LEGO Star Wars Rumor: New Star Destroyer Set (40484) as GWP for Still-Unconfirmed UCS AT-AT, All Coming November

It’s another day, and we have another rumor percolating for LEGO Star Wars stuff. While those of the Star Wars Helmets are not until next year, this one’s (probably) coming a lot sooner. And rather than a buy-alone set (though still a possibly), this one’s a gift-with-purchase. The tidbit comes to us from Brick Fanatics by way of LEGO_club_news on Instagram. It’s possible that this could be the GWP to yet another unconfirmed set, supposedly another UCS. And as it’s supposed to come out sometime in November the reveal (if any) will be even closer.

As you can see from this Instagram post by LEGO_club_news, we’re looking at another LEGO Star Wars Star Destroyer. Numbered 40484, this set is said to have 396 pieces. According to Brick Fanatics that’s about the same size as the Midi-scale Star Destroyer (8099) retired in 2010. Given LEGO’s penchant for revamping old nearly-forgotten sets with new numbering, this 40484 version sounds plausible. What’s yet to be substantiated is the LEGO Star Wars UCS set this one’s supposed to be GWP for. A UCS Imperial AT-AT (75313?) just over a year after the already-large 75288 version’s kind of too soon.

When it comes to rumors as we’ve said before, it’s not really real until LEGO says so. This rumor pegged the LEGO Star Wars Star Destroyer (40484) as coming in November, so we have until October. The same likely goes for the UCS AT-AT which has an alleged November 26 release. That’s more calendar dates to mark for LEGO Star Wars collectors. Let’s see if we get more pleasant surprises than disappointments with these speculations.

LEGO Stores Mexico Provides Clearer Image of LEGO Mini Disney Castle (40478)

The Magic (in Mini form) is real. For Disney fans and LEGO collectors who feel the Disney Castle set (71040) is too big, they have an alternative. It comes in the form of LEGO Mini Disney Castle (40478), recently confirmed. LEGO even had an image of the box packaging in its official documentation. Of course, being found on a PDF, said image was too small and blurry when blown up. Luckily a better image of the set has surfaced, and from Mexico of all sources.

A big shout-out to Brick Fanatics for catching a recent social media post featuring the Mini Disney Castle. LEGO Stores Mexico posted it on their official Instagram page this past September 6. We get to see the fully-built LEGO Mini Disney Castle (40478) with its included Mickey Mouse minifigure. Superimposed on the picture to one side is the box. The promo image’s Spanish slogans translate: “Your favorite castle in miniature,” and “Look forward to it soon.” Gee, the photo tells more but the text keeps mum on further info.

What we know now

Thanks to the clearer image from LEGO Stores Mexico, we can at least discern some new details.  The mini castle, like its bigger 71040 original, sits on a black base. Some colors are different since Disney World likes to repaint their central structure once in a while. Finally, the Mickey Mouse minifigure is actually a bit different from the one with set 71040. The older version had yellow highlights on his tuxedo; this one doesn’t.

The 404 number on LEGO Mini Disney Castle (40478) has hinted that this would be a gift-with-purchase. LEGO Stores Mexico however commented on its IG post that it will launch at their stores. There’s a possibility that it could be both, depending on whether it was store-bought or gotten from LEGO Shop@Home. Again, we wait until LEGO gives more clarification.

Mini LEGO Disney Castle Rumor Gains Traction with Set Number (40478), Build Instruction Page

The Magic was released in LEGO-brick form back in 2016, and it never really went away. We’re talking about set 71040, aka the magnificent LEGO Disney Castle. Its build is just like Cinderella Castle in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom or Tokyo Disneyland, but scaled for minifigures. Said minifigs of Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald and Daisy Duck, and Tinker Bell, are also accompanied by incredible shout-out LEGO pieces from various Disney Animated Films.

It’s all impressive, especially its size, dwarfing even LEGO Creator Expert sets like the newly-revealed Camp Nou (10284). But what if you can have your Disney Castle in a more manageable scale?

Mini Castle?

Brick Fanatics has been following hints of LEGO planning a micro-scale version of LEGO Disney Castle (71040) since April. Now, they’re reporting that the Online Building Instructions portal at LEGO.com has a new listing. How does Mini Disney Castle (40478) sound to you Disney fans? And based on the number LEGO assigned, this set might be as Brick Fanatics theorized months before: a gift-with-purchase. This is based on the numbering scheme that recent GWPs were sporting. Sailboat Adventure (40487) and FC Barcelona Celebration (40485) have 404 as its initial numbers.

More Questions

There are no concrete details yet on LEGO Mini Disney Castle (40478) beyond its 2021 release. Still, having building instructions put up on LEGO.com portal has led to official set reveals. There is however another rumor from BF’s social media source, brick_clicker, about this set’s 500-800 piece count. That’s a lot compared to most GWPs.

A running theory is that 40478, if a gift-with-purchase set, will need a higher online shopping threshold. Think the $200 minimum purchase for LEGO Sailboat Adventure (40487) was high? This could be higher still. Why else would 40487 remain available until its GWP period ended last August 29? One other alternative is that LEGO Mini Disney Castle could be purchasable by itself. We better keep our eyes peeled for more info sometime soon.

LEGO Releases Official Teaser for Creator Expert Set FC Barcelona-Camp Nou (10284)

When it comes to products associated with FC Barcelona, LEGO appears to be pacing their reveals for max hype. Throughout 2021 they had LEGO/futbol fans searching online for word about the upcoming LEGO Creator Expert set depicting Barça home stadium Camp Nou (10284). Then LEGO Shop@Home Australia listed the set’s GWP add-on, FC Barcelona Celebration (40485). That may as well have been a hint that new details about LEGO Camp Nou were forthcoming anytime now. As it turns out, the wait took only a day or so. Then again, it’s still not a whole reveal but a teaser.

LEGO has just released a video glimpse of the Creator Expert Camp Nou set (10284) in fully-built glory. In just 12 seconds the teaser had a first-person view running down the access tunnel of presumably the real stadium. After a white-out transition the POV “emerges” into the plastic pitch of Camp Nou’s scaled-down LEGO counterpart.

The brick-built bleachers then fades into FC Barcelona’s motto, “Mes Que Un Club”/”More than a Club.”

It effectively serves the purpose of confirming the set while leaving collectors/Barça fans begging for more.

Regardless of rumors that LEGO held back on promoting the set out of delicacy for FC Barcelona’s loss of Lionel Messi, this preview is real. LEGO Creator Expert Camp Nou (10284) is coming. They still haven’t said when yet, but word will surely arrive not long after this. And we can’t forget the FC Barcelona Celebration (40485) set with the Barça fan minifigs and the Font de Canaletes as its gift-with-purchase.

40485 1

Whether or not this set-GWP combo can match the reception of its Creator Expert stadium set last 2020, the Trafford-Manchester United (10272) and its companion the LEGO United Trinity Statue (5006171), remains to be seen.

First Images of LEGO FC Barcelona Celebration (40485) GWP Set Revealed

For the past few months past, collectors have been combing online news for more word on a new LEGO Creator Expert set. It is fairly certain to be a nice scale reproduction of Camp Nao stadium in Barcelona, Spain. Football fans know it as the citadel of FC Barcelona and, the largest stadium in Spain and Europe. It has hosted FIFA World Cup games, football finals of the 1992 Olympics, and more. There’s no confirmation yet when LEGO Creator Expert Camp Nou (10284) will release. But Promobricks however caught wind of a Gift with Purchase (GWP) set coming along with this elusive set – the LEGO FC Barcelona Celebration (40485)

Check out these first images of LEGO FC Barcelona Celebration (40485). LEGO Shop@Home Australia put these pics online. They list the set as a free item but also priced at AU$29.99. It depicts minifigure FC Barcelona supporters celebrating the team at a familiar game hangout, the Font de Canaletes.

One might also notice an image discrepancy. The box picture shows five minifigs while the set photo only has four (top image). Details on LEGO Shop@Home Australia are rather sparse beyond its set number and pieces (178 pieces in total). The specifications do say that it will include FOUR minifigures and accessories in FC Barcelona colors, so that’s probably it. From what we can assume based on word from brick street, this latest promotional set may perhaps be an incentive similar to what LEGO offered last year when it released the LEGO Creator Expert Old Trafford-Manchester United (10272) and its GWP counterpart, the exclusive LEGO United Trinity Statue (5006171) minifigures.

The Creator Expert line has seemingly abandoned chronological release by number since this year. But with LEGO FC Barcelona Celebration (40485) in the open, LEGO Creator Expert Camp Nou (10284) isn’t far off. Speculation has it that the Camp Nou set may have been held back due to the recent FC Barcelona drama. You know the one about the club letting Lionel Messi go on August 5 after his contract expired on July 1. A set like LEGO Creator Expert Camp Nou would have been considered “too soon.” The same goes for its GWP, FC Barcelona Celebration (40485). We won’t really know until it officially comes out.

LEGO Ideas Sailboat Adventure (40487) Now Up As A Gift-With-Purchase Set

Just in case you missed it, the August 2021 LEGO Store Calendar has been released, giving us a closer look at this month’s uber-exclusive gift-with-purchase (GWP) set in the form of the LEGO Ideas Sailboat Adventure (40487).

40487 1

If you recall, the Sailboat Adventure (40487) is the overall winner of the LEGO Ideas Build That Holiday contest from last year giving it the privilege of becoming the next fan-inspired promotional set following the likes of the LEGO Ideas Vintage Car (40448) and the still to be revealed LEGO Ideas The Adventures of the USS Cardboard. Designed by LEGO fan builder Yan Chevalier (aka yc_solo over at LEGO Ideas), this LEGO Ideas GWP set clocks in at 330 pieces and will be yours for free once your single-receipt LEGO purchase reaches $200 or more. I have to say that the set comes with a hefty price point, but considering how substantially large this is at more than 300 pieces, plus the figures that go with it, I guess it still has great value for money.

40487 alt1 40487 alt2

The LEGO Ideas Sailboat Adventure (40487) is available for an early release for LEGO VIPs from August 1 to 3, and general availability to all (while stocks last of course) from August 4 to 29.  Just in case you got yours already, be kind to share your general impressions of this set in the comments section below.

The LEGO Ideas Dream Holiday Sailboat (40487) Will Be The Next LEGO Gift-With-Purchase Set

If you recall from last year, LEGO Ideas launched a building contest dubbed as Build That Holiday. The contest centers on recreating your dream summer holiday vacation using only a limited number of bricks, ranging only from 150 to 250 LEGO pieces. As a fan vote contest, the entry with the highest number of LEGO fan votes was eventually selected to become the next LEGO GWP or gift-with-purchase set. And this time, we have confirmation that this GWP will be finally offered next month in the form of the LEGO Ideas Dream Holiday Sailboat (40487).

LEGO Ideas Dream Holiday Sailboat
Fan-based concept, not yet the final gift-with-purchase set.

According to Promobricks, the LEGO Ideas Dream Holiday Sailboat (40487) GWP will most likely be offered to LEGO VIPs starting August 1, and August 4 for everyone else. This promotional item will be added to your LEGO shopping cart automatically when you reach a single receipt, 200€  price point. I have to admit that it’s on a quite high qualifying purchase range, but we have to wait and see for the August 2021 LEGO Store Calendar to have a full grasp of the promo.

The LEGO Ideas Dream Holiday Sailboat (40487) is based on the winning entry, Sailing Ship Adventure by yc_solo. With a total of 887 fan votes over at the LEGO Ideas platform, it has been voted to become the next GWP set similar to what the fan-based platform did with other promotional sets such as the LEGO Ideas Vintage Car (40448) and the upcoming, LEGO Ideas The Adventures of the USS Cardboard.  As a fan of LEGO brick-built vignettes, I’m certainly looking forward to these sets. I just hope that LEGO will offer these promotional sets at somewhat lower qualifying purchase price points. I guess we just have to wait and see.

LEGO Mini Adidas Originals Superstar (40486) Building Instructions Now Up

In case you missed out on the July 2021 LEGO Store Calendar, you may want to know that LEGO is currently offering a gift-with-purchase (GWP) set in the form of the LEGO Mini Adidas Originals Superstar (40486). This GWP is a smaller, chibi version of its counterpart the LEGO Adidas Originals Superstar (10282), and is available as a promotional item for a single-receipt purchase of any LEGO products worth $85 and above.

Aside from the very much welcomed gesture of extending its promo period until July 20 (as long as supplies last), the LEGO Customer service portal has also uploaded the building instructions for the LEGO Mini Adidas Originals Superstar (40486) which you can access right here.

40486 1 1

Having the instructions available online is a great way to try and build this replica while waiting for your LEGO Shop@Home orders to arrive. Here’s the parts list if you want to check them out. You may also want to see if you have these parts in your LEGO inventory as well.

6374296 2 6374296 3

Coming in at 92 pieces, the majority of these parts are quite common except for the recently introduced 2X2X1 1/3 Brick with Bow element which was first introduced in 2020 together with the LEGO Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse (43179) set. This piece is also found in other larger, 18+ sets such as the LEGO Ideas 123 Sesame Street (21324) and LEGO Creator Expert Ghostbusters ECTO-1 (10274) sets.

This curved element is used to create a more organic feel to the LEGO Mini Adidas, particularly at the tip of the shoe. So it’s quite a challenge to look for alternatives in case you don’t have this piece in your LEGO collection.

Overall, having these instructions available online is a nice way to create a brick-built pair to go along with this GWP. Happy building!

Here’s A Look at Our Next Future LEGO Ideas GWP Set

Take a look.

LEGO Ideas GWP
Our next LEGO Ideas GWP set will be based on this creation by LEGO fan builders DadiTwins entitled “Ray the Castaway”.

Created by LEGO fan designers DadiTwins, their original creation Ray the Castaway managed to gather 969 votes making it the Grand Prize winner of this contest. We usually don’t have an exact release date once winners in these kinds of contests have been announced, but we can expect that the LEGO Ideas GWP Ray the Castaway will be officially released after a year or so, similar to the ones before it.

Again, a huge congratulations to LEGO fan designers DadiTwins and the entire LEGO fan community for making this possible!

LEGO Ideas The Adventures of the USS Cardboard is Our Next LEGO GWP

Several weeks ago, the LEGO Ideas platform has launched another contest that tapped into the collective creativity of the LEGO fan community. Dubbed as the Out of This World Space Build Contest, the contest managed to pool 15 finalists vying to become LEGO’s next gift-with-purchase (GWP) set. And after the votes were finally tallied, the honor of being the next LEGO GWP has now landed to the upcoming LEGO Ideas The Adventures of the USS Cardboard.

Adventures of the USS Cardboard

Similar to its predecessor the LEGO Vintage Car (40448), the LEGO Ideas The Adventures of the USS Cardboard was a fan-submitted entry that managed to gather the highest number of votes (2,869 votes to be exact) among the LEGO fan community and will eventually become an official LEGO set.

Designed by LEGO fan builder bulldozer (aka Ivan Guerrero), the LEGO Ideas The Adventures of the USS Cardboard is Ivan’s playful take on his fond memories of ‘space adventures’ with his brother when they were children. Another fun fact in case you don’t know yet, Ivan Guerrero is also the LEGO fan designer behind the LEGO Ideas 123 Sesame Street (21324). Pretty neat right?

As a fan of minifigure vignettes, I personally voted for this entry and was sincerely looking forward to seeing this become an official LEGO set. The vibrant color scheme, the child-like wonder that the set evokes, surely hits all the nostalgic strings of childhood fun and awe. Plus, the story behind Ivan’s creative process speaks close to everyone’s heart – childhood innocence and a sense of wonder and adventure all wrapped up in close family ties make this set an absolute winner.  Plus the fact that it appeals to LEGO’s classic Space theme really hits the sweet brick spot.

I’ll keep you posted once LEGO releases more information later on. Congratulations once again to LEGO Filipino fan designer  Ivan Guerrero for this prestigious recognition!
