It seems that there will be plenty of happy LEGO fans in Germany since the much-awaited 2016 Summer LEGO sets have finally landed over at LEGOLAND Allee in Günzburg, Germany. The guys of Promobricks took some time off to visit LEGOLAND Allee, and they were delightfully surprised to see the much talked about 2016 Summer LEGO sets, specifically those from Star Wars, Friends and Creator lineups are now on display at the theme park’s store shelves ahead of its official release.
LEGO announced earlier during the New York Toy Fair that the above-mentioned sets will be released in the US sometime in August, while both Amazon UK and Amazon Japan have already listed these sets for pre-order to be released during the first week of June in their localities. Here are some of the images that Promobricks have snapped inside the store of LEGOLAND Allee in Germany.

Hey LEGO! Care to come up with your own rolling LEGO BB-8 set?
There have been plenty of fan-built LEGO BB-8s all over the internet, but none like what Mark Smiley created and contributed at LEGO Ideas. So, what set it apart from the rest? This custom rolling LEGO BB-8 actually rolls while keeping its head afloat! Mark goes on to show that his rendition of the skittish but loyal astromech droid is made of 100% authentic LEGO parts. Needless to say, this might be the coolest custom LEGO Star Wars LEGO BB-8 that we will see rolling around. Watch its demo video below.
How to Make Your Own Custom Rolling LEGO BB-8
Mark’s BB-8 received a great deal of thumbs-up from fellow LEGO Idea supporters, running at 2398 votes as of this writing. The interesting part is that it gained almost 2,000 votes since last Friday when Gizmodo featured Mark’s ingenious creation. As you may notice, the design of Mark’s BB-8 is reminiscent of that of Sphero’s BB-8 robotic toy.
Check Out the Inner Workings of this Custom Rolling LEGO BB-8
Unlike, Sphero’s absolutely cool and sophisticated version, the build of Mark’s BB-8 is surprisingly simple. Using magnets that are bolstered up from a central axle and stabilized by LEGO weights, BB-8’s manages to keep afloat while his main body is rolling.
It lacks any electric motor that allows independent motion, however, it comes with a desert-themed docking station that allows BB-8 to roll using hand-cranked wheels while it remains stationary. As expected, there is no standard LEGO piece for BB-8’s spherical body giving Mark experimenting on certain parts as the only option.
After countless trials and errors, Mark found the perfect spherical candidate: the desert planet from the Sebulba Podracer and Tatooine set (9675). Mark said, “It took a lot of experimenting…I think I ordered one of every dome and ball-shaped piece LEGO has ever made off of Bricklink just so I could try every option.” After a quick paint job, the desert planet of Tatooine now houses the mechanisms for this adorable rolling astromech.
The LEGO Star Wars Sebulba Podracer and Tatooine (9675) set was the basis for the spherical body of this LEGO Ideas Rolling BB-8 product idea.
Here is Mark’s commentary on his BB-8 design.
This unique BB-8 was designed with the primary goal of being able to move with his head staying up on top. The entire model was made using 100% Genuine Lego parts. His shells were of course carefully painted (and if this model is approved and created by Lego, the parts would come printed as so many Lego parts are).
Inside you’ll find Lego weights suspended from the central axle that bolster up two Lego magnets. Those magnets are held up close to the top of the ball and attract the two magnets built into the head of this custom rolling LEGO BB-8. The head uses a cockpit dome (painted), hinge parts, and the smallest Lego wheels to skate on top of the body. The body’s shell started out as Tatooine from the Lego Star Wars Planet series. The total part count is around 180 pieces.
This Rolling LEGO BB-8 is super fun to fidget with, and roll about, and satisfies a midpoint between static model and full-on electric RC. It would make a great addition to any Lego or Star Wars Fan’s collection!
We hope to see more support for Mark’s custom rolling LEGO BB-8 (I certainly voted for it) as LEGO gave him an extra 182 days as a way of giving a thumbs-up for the project. Perhaps future builds will incorporate NXT programming. The design potential is limitless. Just visit his LEGO Ideas page and click Support if you like to see this coolest LEGO BB-8 roll out in LEGO store shelves later on.
Several months, ago prior to the theatrical release of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Amazon announced the release of a new DK Publishing book that will help any young Padawan learner explore the bricktastic Star Wars galaxy. Just recently, the movie’s website officially announced the full-details of the newest Dorling Kindersley book about the galaxy far, far away retold in a fun and entertaining way that only LEGO can deliver.
Here’s the full description as quoted from Starwars.com, as well the great reveal on the exclusive Star Wars The Force Awakens minifigure.
Looking to learn the ways of the brick side of the Force? DK Publishing is your master now.
StarWars.com is excited to reveal LEGO Star Wars: Chronicles of the Force, an in-depth, photo-filled companion to LEGO Star Wars, coming in June from DK. Written by veteran Star Wars authors Adam Bray and Cole Horton, the new tome spans the entire saga, featuring detailed information on the latest sets and minifigures of the LEGO Star Wars galaxy — and comes with an exclusive minifigure of its own. Meet “Unkar’s Brute,” one of the junk trader and thugs employed by Unkar Plutt from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, available only with LEGO Star Wars: Chronicles of the Force.

Based on the above photo, the ‘Unkar’s Thug’ minifigure comes with a sand, brown color combination staying true to the harsh desolate environment of the planet Jakku. The minifig’s torso also closely resembles the old, tattered shirt of Unkar’s desert minion. While the head is a little far off from the actual character, it will be better if a helmet is added as seen from the movie. Overall, the minifigure is great and its exclusivity gives it a more “take me” appeal.
DK also has something for all LEGO Star Wars trivia lovers out there. Starting May, DK will release its Ultimate Factivity Collection: LEGO Star Wars. Designed for all Star Wars sages and Jedi in-training, it will test your knowledge across the Star Wars galaxy through cool activities, games, and puzzles jam packed together with a set of more than 500 collectible stickers. Here’s the official cover of DK’s LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Factivity Collection.
The LEGO Star Wars lore further expands with the introduction of the new LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures!
With the success of ‘The Yoda Chronicles’ and ‘Droid Tales’, LEGO and Lucasfilm entered into a new partnership with their next wave of miniseries that is sure to be more fun-filled and more hilarious than its predecessors. “The fun-filled adventure comedy series, set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi will introduce all-new heroes and villains in exciting adventures with many familiar Star Wars characters,” according to the series official website.
The new LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures is slated to be released this summer exclusively at Disney XD. Check this official announcement from Starwars.com.
The Force is set to meet LEGO bricks in a new galaxy-spanning adventure in LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures!
StarWars.com is thrilled to announce LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, an all-new animated television series scheduled to debut this summer on Disney XD in the US. The fun-filled adventure comedy series, set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi will introduce all-new heroes and villains in exciting adventures with many familiar Star Wars characters.
Told in the whimsically charged style that audiences have come to expect from LEGO Star Wars entertainment, the series stars the Freemakers, a family of scavengers who build and sell starships from the scoured debris of space battles strewn throughout the galaxy. When their youngest discovers a natural connection with the Force through an ancient artifact — the Kyber Saber — his world is turned upside down, and he and his family are thrown into an epic struggle against the Empire to restore peace and freedom to the galaxy. Throughout their adventures, the Freemakers explore new worlds, meet new and familiar characters, and learn the true value of what it means to be a family.
“We are very excited to launch for the first time a TV series with Disney XD,” said Jill Wilfert, vice president, of licensing & entertainment at the LEGO Group. “The creative team behind The Freemaker Adventures is extremely talented, and the series is a great testament to our longstanding and successful partnership with Lucasfilm and Disney. The show masterfully combines the rich heritage of storytelling, great characters, action, and adventure in a galaxy far, far away with the creativity, imagination, and humor that only LEGO Star Wars can deliver. We are sure fans young and old are going to love the show.”
“With The Freemaker Adventures we are thrilled to bring all-new stories to life that could only be realized in the LEGO Star Wars universe,” said Carrie Beck, vice president, of animation development at Lucasfilm. “We are embarking on an unprecedented collaboration that will allow us to extend the narrative experience of the Star Wars saga with the same playful spirit that’s always made LEGO Star Wars so much fun to watch. We are so thankful to have such great partners in the LEGO Group, Disney XD, and series developers Bill Motz and Bob Roth.”
LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures is a production of Wil Film, the LEGO Group, and Lucasfilm. Developed for television by Bill Motz and Bob Roth (Penguins of Madagascar), they join Torsten Jacobson (LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales) and Jill Wilfert (The LEGO Movie) as executive producers alongside producers Carrie Beck (Star Wars Rebels), Jason Cosler (LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Avengers Reassembled!), Jake Blais, and John McCormack.

For those who are excited about its arrival, the LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens video game is now officially slated to be released on June 28!
It is bound to happen: Microsoft’s Xbox has announced on its website the release of yet another LEGO Star Wars video game, and this time it claims that “The Force is strong with this one.” Riding on the recent success of its two-billion-dollar movie counterpart, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if LEGO announces the release of the LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens video game to keep the force moving.
LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens – What You Need to Know
Developed by UK-based TT Games, the LEGO Star Wars line-up has already made a distinct brand for itself, with endearing features and gameplay that are all too familiar to the fans of the series. True to its form, it promises the same light, but exquisitely challenging game modes, immersive shooting action, and of course, tons of virtual bricks to collect and to build ships and props from the Star Wars franchise.
Typical LEGO Humor and Star Wars Action Rolled Into One
Not to mention the comedic antics of their minifig counterparts that are sure to draw laughter from children and adults alike. Xbox players may choose to follow either the light or dark side of the force by taking the roles of Rey, Finn, Poe, BB-8, Kylo Ren, Han Solo, and the rest of the characters from the movie. I guess it is safe to assume that we’ll be seeing all of the characters featured in the game’s cover art at some point in the game.
Watch the video game’s trailer below:
Though all of these may sound standard fare for all LEGO-based video games, Xbox promises a different take on the LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens storyline. This time, the game will feature “exclusive playable content that bridges the story gap between Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” as mentioned on the Xbox website.
But the best promise of immersive gaming experience may actually come from the various game modes that come along with LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens. For the first time ever, TT Games introduces the Multi-Build and Blaster Battles modes in the game’s line-up.
“With Multi-Builds, use available LEGO bricks to open up new paths, then break them apart and re-build them again to open up another! And another! During Blaster Battles, use your surroundings as cover to stand against the First Order,” as Xbox describes it. We hope that the Blaster Battles will also include network-based, free-for-all, and coop gameplay.
Well, we can dream all we want, but in the meantime, we just have to wait for around five months before we can actually grab a copy and pound once again on our controllers. For now, this teaser video might give us a laugh or two. I guess even under his intimidating mask, Kylo Ren may have a chuckle or two when his lightsaber’s hilt needed several taps before he could get it to work right.
Availability and Release Date
LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens is scheduled to be released on June 28, 2016. The last LEGO-based game to be launched recently was Marvel’s Avengers on January 26.
This custom LEGO BB-8 is simple enough to be built at your own home using LEGO bricks that you may have lying around.
The latest addition to the Star Wars family of droids has already left a mark on the hearts of endearing fans. The non-human but adorable BB-8 droid, with its flair for the dramatic, quickly gained a following among the younger generation of Star Wars fans – not to mention a host of toys and other promotional memorabilia.
Since the last quarter of the year, the internet has been riddled with so many iterations of BB-8 either as toy figures, or actual working models, and this may be the first attempt to create this droid from actual LEGO pieces. Sure, we know that LEGO is quick to catch on to the LEGO Star Wars hype.
It even has a minifigure of BB-8 on one of its offered sets. However, it is yet to offer the actual challenge of building the iconic droid itself. So while waiting for LEGO to release such a brick-built version of the newest droid on the block, let’s take a look at this custom LEGO BB-8, and see if you can build one of your own.
How to Build Your Own Custom LEGO BB-8
One such fan took on the challenge of marrying his love for the Star Wars franchise and his love for the LEGO brick. Mashable’s Adario Stranger reports, “A Reddit user by the name of “hendrikdejager” recently posted his own LEGO version of the BB-8 droid on the site and it turned out pretty awesome. The mechanics of putting the Lego-made droid together are pretty tedious, which is why the maker posted a demonstrational how-to video (above) on YouTube on Tuesday”. Other than his video, this clever LEGO enthusiast also posted a detailed parts list for anyone else who wants to try their hand at making their own custom LEGO BB-8.
Watch this video and see if you can build one of your own.
If you’re the type that often complains while building LEGO models and sets out of the box, you might want to think again after watching this video. Peter Brookdale who goes by the profile cavegod2009 on Flickr, came up with a custom LEGO AT-AT which took 6,000+ pieces and 26 hours to build.

Peter also came up with other amazing customized creations such as the Imperial Tie Fighter, Sandcrawler, Imperial Shuttle, and A-Wing. Based on the retired LEGO AT-AT (75054) model, you can just imagine how massive this LEGO Star Wars project is, considering that LEGO first came up with the idea using only 1,137 pieces!
Building a Massive Custom LEGO AT-AT
Charlie from BrickVault took on the challenge of Peter’s design and personally ordered the 6,000 LEGO bricks from BrickLink. Filming himself and a buddy for a total of 4 days, they came up with a time-lapse video worth 26 hours of building time. Towards the end of the video, there were some modifications that needed to be done since they had a bit of a challenge in connecting the legs to the main body and making it stand independently.

The exceptional attention to detail and smooth finish of this custom LEGO AT-AT owes it to what BrickVault calls the SNOT Technique making for a smoother appearance. This is not the same thing that you want to sneeze out, but is an acronym for “Studs Not On Top”.
This is one custom LEGO AT-AT that is definitely worth more than a thousand words. Check out BrickVault’s video below and tell us what you think about his amazing feat.
