LEGO Unikitty Collectible Figures Series 1 (41775) Revealed!

Boy, oh boy! This weekend is jam-packed with a ton of reveals from LEGO that it’s kind of hard to focus where to begin. Better start the ball rolling, and let’s begin with the multifaceted (read: bipolar?), brick-built kitty sensation from the highly successful LEGO Movie.

Now that she has her own TV show, LEGO opted to push through a dedicated theme for her and the rest of her gang.  We already reported back in January during the Nuremberg Toy Fair that the sensational Unikitty will be having her own line of collectible figures, or more specifically LEGO Unikitty Collectible Figure series (41775). For one, this is definitely not your typical CMF series due to the very feature of Unikitty herself being made roughly of 14, mostly printed, standard LEGO pieces set on a cloud shape baseplate.

Now thanks to Italian toy and hobby store, Radio Kontrol, we no longer need to guess how this Unikitty collectible figure series will turn out. Now if you’re looking forward to this one, then a word of caution: it is virtually impossible for you to feel your way through most of the characters in this series because as you can see, each blind bag basically has the same kind of pieces save for their own unique printings. Here’s a rough Google translate from the Italian website, which interestingly states that this is the first among upcoming series.  Read on and check the images below.

LEGO Ninjago Summer 2018 Set Images Released

Coming from Amazon FR’s earlier reveal of the latest LEGO Creator sets due to be out in the second half of the year, Amazon’s French counterpart has also listed several images of the newest LEGO Ninjago sets based on the animated show’s upcoming Season 9. We already had a glimpse on what’s in-store with these sets when the Stormbringer (70652) was put on showcase during the New York Toy Fair last February, and even earlier when we first reported about these sets last December. We’re still keeping our radars open for a listing of the War Rig/Dieselnaut Combat Vehicle (70654),and the still elusive, LEGO Ninjago Docks of Ninjago City (70657).

These latest LEGO Ninjago sets are focused on the central theme of dragons, including a new line of Spinjitzu sets that adds the element of flight to your typical spinning toys. Similar to the LEGO Creator sets, these latest LEGO Ninjago sets are expected to be offered sometime this Summer.

DK LEGO Ninjago Build Your Own Adventure Greatest Ninja Battles Set Revealed

After the reveal of Cinderella’s Carriage as the LEGO set included with DK’s very first LEGO Disney Princess: Build Your Own Adventure, it looks like we finally know what our next buildable set coming from this book series. Amazon has currently listed a new DK LEGO Ninjago Build Your Own Adventure book, dubbed as the Greatest Ninja Battles. This next DK offering like before, features an exclusive LEGO Ninjago buildable vehicle – Nya’s Hover Bike.

Nya’s Hover Bike is an amphibious vehicle that converts from a speeding bike to a hover craft that can travel over water. It is equipped with two stud shooters in front, and looks pretty cool when it is in its speeder bike form particularly the use of transclear blue wheel pieces – it reminds me of LEGO Ideas TRON actually. The Hover Bike also comes with what seems to be a new torso of Nya.

DK’s LEGO Ninjago Build Your Own Adventure Greatest Ninja Battles is set to be released on July 30 in the US, and is expected to retail for $20. Here are the rest of the book’s details as mentioned via Amazon.

New Details About The LEGO Black Panther: Trouble in Wakanda Animated Short Emerged

Last October, the Marvel Animation panel at the New York Comic Con announced that famed King of Wakanda will be having his very own LEGO movie. Alongside MCU’s Black Panther film, this LEGO mini-movie entitled LEGO Black Panther: Trouble in Wakanda, will be on the same vein such as the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Avengers Re-Assembled and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Maximum Overload. Other than having his very own LEGO movie spin-off, details were scant about what was announced back then – until now.

CBR has recently shared several interesting details on this upcoming LEGO animated short starring T’Challa. According to the report, Trouble in Wakanda will be aired this summer on Disney XD, and will see the return of several voice actors. Returning to voice T’Challa is James Mathis III from Marvel’s Avengers Assemble, Keston John (Bosch) as Killmonger, Daisy Lightfoot (Horizon: Zero Dawn) as Shuri, Yvette Nicole Brown (Community) as Okoye, Trevor Devall (Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy) as Klaue, Mick Wingert (Kung Fu Panda) as Iron Man, Travis Willingham (Sonic Boom) as Thor, Roger Craig Smith (Marvel’s Avengers Assemble) as Captain America, Laura Bailey (Marvel’s Spider-Man) as Black Widow, Fred Tatasciore (Family Guy) as Hulk, Liam O’Brien (Critical Role) as Doctor Strange, and Isaac C. Singleton Jr. (Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy) as Thanos.

According to the animated film’s official synopsis, The LEGO Black Panther: Trouble in Wakanda will have T’Challa face off some of the most formidable Marvel villains that threatens his throne. Similar to what we can expect from MCU’s Avengers: Infinity War, we will see the likes of Thanos as he  arrives from outer space and joined by the likes of rogue villains Killmonger and Ulysses Klaue in creating havoc to the technologically advanced kingdom of Wakanda. The Black Panther must now team-up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in order to stop the Mad Titan, and ensuring the security and protection of his people.

There is no exact release date yet on Disney XD, except for the fact that The LEGO Black Panther: Trouble in Wakanda will be aired sometime in summer. Stay tuned here at the Brick Show for more updates.

LEGO Ideas Voltron (21311) May Be The Most Expensive LEGO Ideas Set That You’ll Buy

For most AFOLs, LEGO may have seemingly bombed at the New York Toy Fair in terms of the relatively disappointing reveals that they had over at their booth, but it doesn’t mean that LEGO news isn’t getting more and more exciting. Though LEGO has already announced or teased on the arrival of the LEGO Ideas TRON: Legacy Lightcyle (21314) sometime next month, there is still one particular set that LEGO has completely placed under wraps for a considerable time now. Though it was quite disappointing not to see the much awaited LEGO Ideas Voltron (21311) set at the NYTF, it looks like we virtually have our piece of relevant information about this upcoming set.

4633439 Voltron Defender of the Univese

It only took two weeks before Lendy Tayag (who goes by len_d69 over at LEGO Ideas) to garner the necessary 10K votes in 2016 for his then LEGO Ideas Voltron project, but the journey of becoming an official LEGO set – from the LEGO Ideas Design Team and eventually on store shelves later on -took almost 2 years. I remember how excited I was upon hearing that this project was eventually announced as the next LEGO Ideas last August. However, the long wait seems to be harrowing, especially considering the fact that it was preceded by three other LEGO Ideas sets: the Women of NASA (21312), the Ship in a Bottle (21313) and TRON: Legacy Lightcycle (21314) – an indication that there were some significant road bumps along the way that delayed the release of LEGO Ideas Voltron. Some rumors suggest that it was because of licensing issues, while others hint on the technical refinements needed to make the set sturdier and more articulated. Needless to say, there was, at a certain point, a cloud of doubt whether the set will still see the light of day among LEGO stores.

LEGO Ideas Volron

However, a rumor is now circulating over LEGO forums that seem to suggest that the wait might be finally over. Reddit user IAMXX has disclosed that LEGO Store inventories have been updated (supposedly within the EU) to reflect a certain IDEAS set tagged as 21311 VOLTRON, with a price point of 179.99 Euros. That gives us a rough currency conversion of $199.99 USD, making it, if rumors are true, the most expensive LEGO Ideas set ever. If such is the case, setting aside additional cost for licensing fees, we can assume that this might also be the largest LEGO Ideas set with the most number of pieces as of to date. As of now, the title of being the largest Ideas set in terms of pieces belongs to the Old Fishing Store (21310), coming in at 2,049 pieces and retailing for $149.99 – significantly lower than the $200 price point that the LEGO Ideas Voltron is rumored to have.

Though I am aware that not all AFOLs are into Voltron, and not all will also find themselves picking up this set, I certainly feel that this next LEGO Ideas Voltron will be a sure winner and a certain hit among fans of the franchise. I for one has closely watched this set’s development since it first garnered the traction of being noticed as a LEGO Ideas Project. Now that it has been turned into an official LEGO set, the excitement of seeing this built is something that I will certainly not miss. I just hope that my wallet will not hate me for this.

Since we still have the launching of the LEGO Ideas TRON: Legacy Lightcyle (21314) next month, we can have a good guess that LEGO might be saving Voltron for a San Diego Comic Con reveal sometime in July.

“Star Wars” TV Series on Disney Streaming Service to be Written by Jon Feavreau

There’s been a lot of talk lately, about how Disney is pushing its subsidiary Lucasfilm into expanding the Star Wars franchise into a multiplatform cinematic universe like what they did with their films from Marvel Studios. Not content with a film every year, live-action TV series are being planned too.

A variety of Star Wars content labeled as “series” is being bounced around for development by Disney and Lucasfilm for the Mouse’s future exclusive digital streaming service. Now, the latter has announced that for their long-talked about live-action Star Wars series, they mean to bring Jon Favreau into the production.

Favreau can on one hand be remembered as a director or executive producer for a number of films in Marvel Studios’ MCU, but he’s also had a hand in the Star Wars franchise. He voiced Pre Vizsla in the Clone Wars animated series and is also providing voice-work in Solo.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced that Favreau will serve as writer and executive producer for the as-yet untitled Star Wars series on the Disney streaming service and praised his talent in doing both. “This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base,” Kennedy said in interviews.

The excitement is palpable on the other end too. “If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you,” he said. “I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.” The Disney streaming service is expected to launch 2019, and will have the Star Wars series as one of its first original program content.

Speaking of May’s Solo, don’t forget to check out LEGO’s latest sets in that line. And let’s not forget the Marvel side.

“Unikitty” Animated Series Premiering This Monday on Cartoon Network UK

The Unikitty! animated series has been airing on Cartoon Network for quite a while now, with the program officially starting on January after the advance release of several mini-episode previews. This of course means Cartoon Network in the US, with CN Latin America only premiering Unikitty! in their program February.

Fans on the other side of the Atlantic of the near-bipolar cat-unicorn Master Builder and Princess of the Unikingdom, who first appeared in 2014’s The LEGO Movie, won’t have long to wait for her. Cartoon Network UK will be premiering Unikitty! on their own programming block this Monday, March 5.

As many fans already know, the series focuses on Unikitty and the happenings during her rule of the Unikingdom, both good things and bad. (Though if it’s the latter, watch out for the Princess’ temper!) Assisting her in ruling the realm are her dog-unicorn little brother Puppycorn, court scientist Dr. Fox and royal guard Hawkodile.

This animated series comes at just about the same time as the wave of Unikitty LEGO products, from collectible minifigures to full-on sets, that are set to debut this summer. Speaking of debuts, Unikitty! the series has yet to premiere in Teletoon Canada (March 17) as well as Cartoon Network Australia, this coming April 27.

LEGO Unikitty Sets Confirmed – Five Rumored Sets Named.

Since LEGO’s confirmation of the upcoming, standalone LEGO Unikitty theme during the recently concluded New York Toy Fair, information was quick to surface on what these sets may actually be. The announcement about this next LEGO sets even came a day earlier when LEGO gave its official press release on what fans can expect before the New York Toy Fair began last Saturday. According to the announcement,

LEGO Unikitty!™, based on the famous unicorn cat princess from the Warner Bros. film, The LEGO Movie, now has her own animated series, Unikitty!™, produced by Warner Bros. Animation and currently airing on Cartoon Network featuring Princess Unikitty and her brother Prince Puppycorn™. Five new building sets and a series of collectibles launch in August, enabling kids to recreate favorite stories or imagine and build new ones.

DWP8YkUWsAIdqM8

In fact, Brick Show Brian gave an even earlier report regarding the set numbers of these five new LEGO Unikitty sets, though we still don’t have any information on their names or set image, or piece count. However, this time around, Brickset has updated its database once more to include the names of these five new LEGO Unkitty sets.

Cloud Car (41451) – £12.50

Puppycorn Trike (41452) – £12.50

Unikitty Party (41453) – £29.50

Dr. Fox’s Lab (41454) – £34.00

Unikitty Bucket (41455) – £39.00

Images of these sets were not shown during the NYTF, so we just have to wait until August when the sets are released. There is also a rumored Unikitty collectible minifigures series that will be released alongside these five LEGO sets. So, if you’re a fan of the titular unicorn feline, then you still have plenty of time to save up.

LEGO Boost + LEGO Ninjago Stormbringer Demo @ the 2018 New York Toy Fair.

A couple of days ago, I reported on one of the newer things that LEGO highlighted at the ongoing New York Toy Fair 2018. One in particular is the LEGO Boost Creative Toolbox (17101) expansion that allows certain LEGO sets to integrate with the Boost system and to bring these sets play features to an entire new level. One in particular is one of the upcoming LEGO Ninjago Masters of Spinjitzu sets, the Stormbringer (70652), which was put on display at the LEGO booth. The idea behind this integration is to add a variety of movement and interactive play to any LEGO set in which the LEGO Boost can be added upon. Though I mentioned that the representatives at the LEGO Booth during that time did not demonstrate these features, as it turned out, the tech savvy guys from Tom’s Guide managed to bring the Stormbringer alive using the LEGO Boost system. Online Editorial Director Avram Piltch, was at the LEGO booth at the Toy Fair and managed to demonstrate how the LEGO Boost can be used with the LEGO Ninjago Stormbringer expansion kit. Using the usual LEGO Boost components such as the Move Hub, motor, color sensor, and the LEGO Boost app, Avram was able to program the Stormbringer to exhibit a variety of behaviors, taking advantage of Boost’s block-based programming. Watch the demo right here.

70652 1

Using a beta version of the program in the LEGO Boost app, the Stormbringer was able to move around, shake its head and even determine if the one mounting it is either a friend or a foe. I find it pretty cool to see how the Stormbringer responded whenever the incorrect minifigure is placed in front of its color sensor. The range of motion and action are only virtually limited by the programming that you input into the LEGO Boost app.

Again, details are still scant in terms of how LEGO plans to integrate the LEGO Boosts with other future sets, and if the expansion will come with a customized block-based program. Nevertheless, I have to say that the concept is kind of exciting and opens a whole new level of playing with your usual LEGO sets.  Similar to the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 (31313) system, you can actually come up with so many buildable creations and add a good number of program into them. Just like brick-building, your imagination is the only limit on what you can create.

70652 3

The LEGO Boost Creative Toolbox (17101) comes in at 843 pieces and retails for $159.99, while the LEGO Ninjago Stormbringer (70652) expansion kit will retail for $39.99 and will be available beginning August 1.

A Look at the LEGO Ninjago Stormbringer (70652) at the 2018 New York Toy Fair.

Thanks to Brothers Brick, we now have a first look at one of Ninjago’s Season 9 tie-in sets – the only LEGO Ninjago Summer set to be put on display at this year’s New York Toy Fair. Though I couldn’t say that I am honestly glad for this, since I was hoping that LEGO will go all out in their entire reveal as they hinted on their NYTF press release. In any case, the LEGO Ninjago Stormbringer (70652) announcement and reveal showcases a new potential of appreciating your LEGO sets’ play features. If you recall, it was reported a week ago that some components of the LEGO Boost Creative Toolbox (17101) will be integrated not just with the Stormbringer, but also with the LEGO City Arctic Exploration Truck (60194), giving both sets some fancy mechanical functions.

With that, the LEGO Ninjago Stormbringer (70652) has been presented at the NYTF for the first time highlighting the abovementioned features. Do take note that the Stormbringer is considered as an add-on to the LEGO Boost (or the other way around depending on how you look at it), and is sold separately. Though the modified Stormbringer + Boost build was featured on the show floor of the NYTF, the guys at the LEGO booth did not discuss the details on how it can be mashed up together, and how and when will the instructions be made available. Furthermore, LEGO’s representatives at that time did not demonstrate how these hybrid features work, which could have been nice to see so we can have an idea on how this integration will actually be like in other future sets.

In any case, here are some of the images posted by Brothers Brick. For more pictures of the LEGO Ninjago Stormbringer (70652) and its Boost integration, visit their website right here.
