LEGO Finally Confirms The Massive LEGO Creator Expert Titanic (10294)

Wow! Talk about making wishes come true, LEGO. The day before, we hoped that LEGO acknowledges the leaks regarding the LEGO Creator Expert Titanic (10294). Descriptions of the set’s features were well and good, but official images are better at getting the message across. The wonder of wonders, LEGO caved in at last. LEGO Shop@Home now lists the LEGO Creator Expert Titanic set in all its massive and expensive glory. It separates into sections to show the interior layout. The steam engines do drive plastic pistons and propellers. LEGO’s designers totally outdid themselves with this brick-built masterpiece.

“No Time to Die” 007 Film Release Could See Renewed Interest in Aston Martin DB5 (10262) Before Its Retirement

Last September 30 saw the UK release of “No Time to Die”: the 25th “James Bond” movie. It was also the fifth and final installment starring actor Daniel Craig. At risk of spoilers, let’s say this film was an ending in more ways than one. And we’re not just talking about Craig’s Bond retiring from duty while a female agent inherits his 007 designation. Now rewind to three years ago, when LEGO released the Creator Expert Aston Martin DB5 (10262). The quintessential 007 vehicle debuted in 1964’s “Goldfinger” during the Sean Connery Days. Craig himself first used it in his third film, “Skyfall” in 2015.

And just as “No Time to Die” became Daniel Craig’s Bond swan song, so is his LEGO DB5 retiring. Brick Fanatics notes that the Creator Expert Aston Martin set (10262) will be retired at the end of 2021. One might see this as a case of the stars aligning or such. The LEGO Aston Martin DB5’s leaving shelves and Shop@Home months after its real-life counterpart’s latest film appearance? It can only be fate. Collectors and “James Bond” fans might soon swarm over any stock of the set out there. The new movie’s also helping LEGO Aston Martin (10262) regain attention.

“No Time to Die” already premiered in the UK. The North American release follows on October 8. LEGO Creator Expert Aston Martin DB5 (10262) still costs $149.99 on LEGO Shop@Home. We recommend to you get one now, before it retires at the end of 2021. Check out this trailer of “No Time to Die” for a shot of the Bond-use DB5 in action, if you need more incentive to buy.

First Image of LEGO Titanic Set (10294) Leaked Ahead of Supposed November Release

You’d be surprised at the number of MOCs by dedicated LEGO builders featuring vehicle disaster scenes. You get no points in guessing that these particular builders love replicating the doomed passenger liner the Titanic. Some Titanic MOCs from years back are absolutely humongous. Then earlier this year a rumor arose of LEGO planning to release a Creator Expert Titanic set. The news sparked collector interest particularly due to its size, at 9,090 pieces. It makes this LEGO Titanic (10294) the second-largest LEGO set ever put out. While LEGO has kept mum on this set’s existence, now some images have been leaked to technically confirm it.

German LEGO news source Promobricks.de notes that local retailer Brick-meister.de, may have released the earliest image of the RMS Titanic (10294) set. We now have an idea for the box art, showing the ocean liner in its red-black-white-gold livery. The foreshortened angle of the image nicely sells the size, even if the “largest set” rumors already got “debunked.” LEGO even put a scale measurement of the ship in the box’s upper-right corner. Converting a 269.1-meter ship into a 1.23-meter brick-built scale model gets its LEGO designers much praise from us.

Other info

Promobricks also gleaned some further details about the LEGO Titanic (10294). While already understood to be too small-scale for minifigures and microfigures, the set could be disassembled into segments. That allows for a display of the interior layout, which also depicts floor furnishings and facilities in some detail. Furthermore, this is not a licensed-IP set. It carries no marks from Titanic’s former company, White Star Line. The line merged with their rival Cunard Line in 1934, with Cunard itself now part of Carnival Corporation. Surely Cunard itself might have contacted LEGO about the set. Anyway, LEGO Titanic (10294) might be released next month, November 1 (October 20 for LEGO VIPs). That bit of info remains rumor until LEGO confirms it.

LEGO Queer Eye – Fab 5 Lot (10291) Has a Difference Between Box Picture and Printed Instructions that May Confuse Casual Builders

It’s finally out in the open. The LEGO “Queer Eye” set is confirmed as a Creator Expert masterpiece. Queer Eye – Fab 5 Loft (10291) is a wonderful brick-built encapsulation of what makes the Netflix show awesome. The loft set showcases the workspaces and specialties of the Fab 5 makeover team. They’re faithfully replicated in minifigure form, alongside season 2 premiere nominee Kathi Dooley in pre- and post-makeover versions. The Fab 5 themselves have hailed the set on social media (given that their production collaborated with LEGO). Everything should be peachy ahead of 10291’s October release.

And yet Brick Fanatics, following their feature of LEGO Queer Eye – Fab 5 Loft (10291), are sounding an alert. They’re calling attention to a presentation dissonance. One feature the set capitalizes on is the minifig clothes-changing mechanic, where they simply swap differently-designed torsos. Set 10291 has several alternate “clothes” for the Five and guests. But in the box and promo images the clothes/torsos are visibly missing their minifig hands. According to illustrations of the Building Instruction, the hands remain attached. So, just pull out the hands and pop them back in when the torso is “worn,” right? That’s what a casual/rookie LEGO builder might probably think, but no.

Potential Problem

LEGO minifigs can be quite sturdy in their complete form. But disassembled, their individual components are little plastic pieces that can be easily damaged. Their building instructions tend to warn builders not to remove the hands of minifigures. The repeated friction of removal-insertion could wear out the pegs until they don’t fit snugly anymore. There’s a chance that those availing of the Fab 5 Loft (10291) are “Queer Eye” fans first. They might not realize that constantly removing/inserting hands from/into the alternate clothes/torsos could make for serious wear and tear. Experienced LEGO builders would know better, but they might not.

Which image will a builder follow: The picture on the box or the printed illustration in the instructions? LEGO Queer Eye – Fab 5 Loft (10291) comes out October 1.

LEGO Shop@Home UK Marks Sets “Retiring Soon” by End of 2021

Even as several LEGO themes were assured of continuing into next year by the company’s VP for design over the weekend, that doesn’t mean specific individual sets will go on. That’s how it’s always been. LEGO can’t keep making the same stuff so old products must retire to make way for new offerings.

There were some LEGO set retirements announced in August. Earlier this week, LEGO Shop@Home UK updated their listings to indicate their sets retiring possibly by year’s end. As confirmed on their site, five LEGO Creator Expert sets and one each from LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Stranger things will be going bye-bye when 2021 concludes. Here they are, courtesy of The Brick Fan. We’ve listed them by year of release, with our Brick Show feature articles and their Shop@Home UK listings:

2018
2019
2020

So far their Shop@Home US counterpart listings are still available (some are marked Hard to Find though). Hopefully they won’t be changing to “Retiring Soon” as well.

LEGO Creator Expert Santa’s Visit (10293) Now Up at US LEGO Shop@Home

After making its debut via LEGO’s regional portal in Asia, LEGO has officially announced and listed this year’s seasonal winter village set. The LEGO Creator Expert Santa’s Visit (10293) is now up at LEGO Shop@Home in the US, slated to be available beginning next month, with early VIP access on September 16.

LEGO Creator Expert Santa's Visit (10293)

Coming in at 1,445 pieces this year’s winter village set puts the spotlight once again on the lengths that Santa will go through to add that holiday cheer to all that is expecting his visit. It was 2014 since we last saw him added to a LEGO Creator Expert winter village set in the form of Santa’s Workshop (10245), so it’s great to see a LEGO model that is built around his character.

And of course, the model itself is perfect for a seasonal display piece and will look great with other winter village sets that you might have. The angled build is really clever since it gives the model a sort of depth and a certain degree of realism. I love the combination of white and light royal blue for its exterior, and the tons of holiday details in the interior. The set comes with four minifigures featuring Dad, Mom, a little girl, and Santa.

Read more about the LEGO Creator Expert Santa’s Visit (10293) below and if you wish to be notified on its arrival in October, you may want to head over to LEGO.com and this to your wishlist.

LEGO Officially Reveals Selected LEGO City and Creator Set Variants

Last week, we reported on a subtle addition to the functionality of the LEGO Shop@Home webpage interface. A color selection option was implemented on two of its products: the LEGO Creator sets Expert Fiat 500 (10271) and 3-in-1 Mighty Dinosaurs (31058). This hinted that these two sets, and perhaps many others, could have set variants produced.

At the time of that report, the color options for the above-mentioned LEGO Creator sets were only their originals. Nearly a week later, LEGO itself has made an official announcement of this feature. Along with that comes the reveal of the first alternative colors.

The LEGO Group finally shed light on the variant color option for selected sets on its home shopping portal, describing it as a limited-time pilot project. Here’s their official statement:

The LEGO Group is running a pilot with a small number of products to gain a deeper understanding of what our fans want from our portfolio and where they prefer to shop for new or unique products.

The pilot includes variations of some of our existing products, so we can find out more about the colors and sizes of sets that fans of all ages want to see more of in our portfolio.

It certainly sounds like good news, and if you’re wondering about the catch then here it is. Most of these set color variants will be available only in the UK and Ireland. This is via their regional LEGO Shop@Home, physical stores, and third-party retailers. The variations on selected LEGO sets will only be available in these areas until November 30, or while supplies last. The LEGO Creator Expert Fiat 500 recolor is the sole exception. LEGO Shop@Home UK can ship this one internationally.

So far, LEGO has marked four sets for variants. The first two are, as already stated, the aforementioned LEGO Creator sets. LEGO Creator Expert Fiat 500 (10271) has an additional blue color scheme renumbered as set 77942 in addition to its original yellow.

77942

The LEGO Creator 3-in-1 Mighty Dinosaurs (31058), aside from green, now has brown (77940) and blue (77941) recolored versions.

The other two sets with variants are from LEGO City, but as re-scales of an earlier retired set the LEGO City Fire Station (60110) from 2016,  and not exactly recolors. These are the LEGO City Fire Station Starter (77943) and the larger LEGO City Fire Station Headquarters (77944).

Here’s hoping the pilot test for this thing in the UK takes off. Maybe then LEGO will make these set variants available internationally, and with more to follow.

LEGO Releases Official Teaser for Creator Expert Set FC Barcelona-Camp Nou (10284)

When it comes to products associated with FC Barcelona, LEGO appears to be pacing their reveals for max hype. Throughout 2021 they had LEGO/futbol fans searching online for word about the upcoming LEGO Creator Expert set depicting Barça home stadium Camp Nou (10284). Then LEGO Shop@Home Australia listed the set’s GWP add-on, FC Barcelona Celebration (40485). That may as well have been a hint that new details about LEGO Camp Nou were forthcoming anytime now. As it turns out, the wait took only a day or so. Then again, it’s still not a whole reveal but a teaser.

LEGO has just released a video glimpse of the Creator Expert Camp Nou set (10284) in fully-built glory. In just 12 seconds the teaser had a first-person view running down the access tunnel of presumably the real stadium. After a white-out transition the POV “emerges” into the plastic pitch of Camp Nou’s scaled-down LEGO counterpart.

The brick-built bleachers then fades into FC Barcelona’s motto, “Mes Que Un Club”/”More than a Club.”

It effectively serves the purpose of confirming the set while leaving collectors/Barça fans begging for more.

Regardless of rumors that LEGO held back on promoting the set out of delicacy for FC Barcelona’s loss of Lionel Messi, this preview is real. LEGO Creator Expert Camp Nou (10284) is coming. They still haven’t said when yet, but word will surely arrive not long after this. And we can’t forget the FC Barcelona Celebration (40485) set with the Barça fan minifigs and the Font de Canaletes as its gift-with-purchase.

40485 1

Whether or not this set-GWP combo can match the reception of its Creator Expert stadium set last 2020, the Trafford-Manchester United (10272) and its companion the LEGO United Trinity Statue (5006171), remains to be seen.
